THE EXAMPLES ARE ESPECIALLY HELPFUL WHEN TRYING TO EXPLAIN IAS TO FOREIGNERS, OR WHEN YOU ARE TRYING TO RELATE THE IAS TO US GAAP. I FOUND THE COMPARISONS AND EXPLANATIONS VERY READABLE TOO. THANK YOU.

INTERESTING TOUR DE FORCE OF BEST PRACTICES........1999-04-23
The book begins with a three phase approach for advancing women that is basic to all successful initiatives. It explores some of the best practices of corporations to provide advice on women's advancement issues. It also briefly highlights the programs of numerous Catalyst award winners. The book is based on Catalyst's research reports, case histories, and best practices. This is an interesting tour de force of best practices. While this book arrived too late for the actual planning of my recent trip to pick up a dog it would have saved me hours of research had I had it from the beginning. If the listings aren't complete there is certainly enough information there to give you the opportunity to find what you are looking for. Just having the central reservation lines of the large motel chains is a help in finding out if the individual properties accept animals is worth the price of the book in itself.
I found it spotty in finding information on where public areas that accepted my dog on or off leash could be located. I picked up (a lot) more and better information from the surfing the internet and talking to folks along the way.
Even with its shortcomings it was worth the money - I'll use it frequently.
A necessity when taking car trips with dog.......2007-03-22
7 months ago I packed a U-haul to move from Ohio to Washington (state). My two puppies made the journey with me. I don't know what I would have done without the book. It was invaluable to finding lodgings for the night. As with AAA's hotel rankings and reviews, most were dead on.
The book advertises that it contains information on dog parks. I do not recommend this book if you want information on dog parks. It would be better to research the area and its dog parks ahead of time.

Excellent, accurate book that allowed us to plan our trip without worrying about where to stay with our pet. I loaned it to a friend who was traveling out west and they loved the book so much I gave it to them and now have to buy another copy! I keep it on file should we ever have to evacuate due to a hurricane. We'll all go to the same hotel with our pets!
Reliable guide for pet-friendly lodging.......2006-08-17
Just put this newly purchased guide to the test during a trip through parts of Colorado, New Mexico, and Texas with our 60-pound dog. The hotel and motel listings are very accurate and up-to-date, so we had few surprises when calling to book rooms or arriving at properties. The only improvements I would suggest are more recommendations for outdoor dog play places (especially those that are leash-free) and for restaurants with outdoor dining areas that permit dogs. We had fairly good success improvising leash-free play zones in national forest areas off the highways and were able to find some eating places with patios or decks that permitted dogs...

If you are looking for the free AAA travel guides with the "NO DOGS ALLOWED" lodging REMOVED, this book is worth the buy.
If you are expecting restaurants, pooch friendly stores, lots of parks, emergency vets, etc., try a state-specific guide (i.e. Canine Oregon). I think petswelcome.com even surpasses this guide in terms of real dog friendly lodging (you know "tolerates" vs. "embraces").
If you and the pooch are going cross-country with no planning and no internet, this is good in a pinch (just as their free guides are), but if you are looking for a day-tripping or neato-places planning guide...I suggest you look at the book before buying.

Going the distance.......2007-08-28
I've been in a long distance relationship with a wonderful man for three years now. It came more easily to me than it did to him, as my father was in the military and constant moving made long distance connections with friends and relatives seem normal to me. It wasn't as smooth a situation for him, as he still lived in the very city where he had been born and never had to deal with absences that exceeded a week or two. We live in the same country, but other than that, our face-to-face encounters were confined to a few times a year. Our relationship has been a learning experience for us both.
Chris Bell's book is filled with practical advice about making the miles appear less formidable. The Internet has made frequent communication less of a costly endeavor than it was in the past, so the separation anxiety can be assuaged without the phone bills forcing you to take a second mortgage on your house. Bell also emphasizes the all-important issue of trust and self-sufficiency. It's true: long distance relationships really work when both partners have their own identities and don't require another person to make them feel whole.
By emphasizing direct advice from long distance couples instead of diving into endless theory about the 'love over the miles' phenomenon, Chris Bell has helped to pave over an admittedly rocky road.
Great book for new LDRs and old!.......2007-03-11
After five years in a long-distance relationship (LDR), I finally decided to buy a book about it based on the reviews here on Amazon. I considered other LDR books, but this one seemed to be the most interesting. I was not disappointed! It is a quick, fun read, and even though my S.O. and I have already been applying most of the scenarios discussed in the book since we've successfully been together for five years, I did discover a few new things to try to keep things interesting. If you are just starting a LDR, this book will be extremely helpful to you. Pay close attention to the chapters about Communication because Communication really is the key to making it last. My S.O. and I are better grounded in our relationship than alot of our friends and we attribute it to the great communication and trust that we have with one another during this LDR - and our relationship has been LDR from the very beginning - we met 5 years ago at an event in a different state than either of us was living in at the time. This book is a must for anyone in a long distance relationship or considering one!

As someone who has had several long distance relationships, most of which sputtered and failed because of lack of communication and unrealistic expectations of each other, I can assert that this book is right on the money! My husband and I were long distance dating one year and long distance engaged another, and I wish I had read this book WAY before we embarked on such a crazy relationship, because it would have saved us countless hours of uncertainty and arguments, and made our visits together much less stressful and more enjoyable!
Pick and Choose What to Read.......2007-01-11
There were portions of this book I found to be insightful, but others that were not applicable to my long-distance situation (we are 2 hours apart). Most of the anecdotes were pertinent to those in very long distance relationships (5-ish hours to many states apart).
I give the book 4 stars because it, for the most part, is helpful. I just feel it's more helpful to some than others.

I bought this book just a few months after beginning my first long distance relationship. I thought it would be helpful, give me ideas and tips in how to handle the distance. Which it did! It is a very well written book and some of the stories have made me laugh out loud.
However, a few of the passages made me depressed! I started taking this book too seriously and began to rush the relationship. I finally realized it and before it was too late I was able to calm myself down.
This is a good book, take it for what it is - a suggestion and a reminder that your not alone - not the be-all/end-all of relationships.

The vacation from hades.......2002-04-23
I kind of feel sorry for Zoey. So far, none of her ideas have really panned out. The party ended in disaster and this vacation is turmoil. Well, except for Aisha running into christopher. Claire and Benjamin are mad foul. I have not really been crazy about Claire from the beginning; however, I really don't like her now. She has no right to ruin her fathers life, because someone else complicated hers. She needs to take it out on Aaron not her father and Sarah.
I really hope to see Jake and Kate hook up. I really am starting to like Jake. As for Lara, I have absolutely nothing to say about Lara. She doesn't deserve any pity. She has no common respect for other people. Quite frankly, I do not blame Jake for not wanting to be bothered with her. If she wants to continue messing up her life, then she has to do that by herself.

I have read almost the whole series an dhave found the books both interesting and real. I especially liked the way Nina and her abuse situation was handled. This book was slightly dissapointing but I can assure you the series does get better. Nina needs to stop being such a pushover and ben a jerk which does happen. Being a teen my self I have found the series to be very real and acurate. I was dissapointed when the series ended and wish katherine would right some more. I encourage anyone to read from the beginning as it is a very good series.

o gzzz give me a break
the people that write these series keep saying how much they love these books because they are so real and really happen. who in their right mind really does the things that actually happen in this book, nobody is stupid enough to sleep with their best friends boyfriend and so on . and yes i have read some of these books and they were good at first but know they are too fake.
katherine applegate needs some new inspiration maybe she needs to spend some time with a real teen to find out what really does happen and maybe than she wouldnt keep saying that they are such real books.
the most disappointing book of the series.......1999-10-31
I have read several of the books in the making out series and this is the worst. In the past I was unable to put them down like with "ben takes a chance" but this is very slow. I am very sick of Ben being a jerkoff but worse I am sick of Nina being a push over. She should tell him to kiss off!! I think katherine applegate needs to find some new inspiration. I am hoping the next one is somewhat better!!
Finally! A book that sounds like it's about REAL teenagers!.......1999-10-13
This book was really great, I can't wait 'til the next one comes out. That thing about Nina at the end especially has me on a cliff. My only gribes?What the *** is wrong with certain male charecters(hint: Benjimin& Jake)? Ben is acting like a complete jerk, and Jake is well...clueless to put it mildly. And why can't Lara give up on Jake? Is he really that great a catch? And am I the only one that wants to reach out and slap Zoey every time the "sex" talk with or about Lucas comes up? I mean, do we really want to hear about it five times a book? I don't think so. It's nice she has standards and conviction, but it's kinda being taken to a sickening and annoyingly old point.
The book really did rock though. The plots are like a soap opera, so when life sucks, you can sit down and read it and think"I guess I don't have it that bad". It's a great read for study hall or a long trip. My advice to the author: KEEP 'UM COMING!!!
