One more in the row of success guides.......2000-05-30
There are two types of these books, one is for the people not getting anywhere and have no wealth, they get the personal success guides. The other group is the semi successful people wanting to get to the top, for them we have these books, the perfect boss guides. We've seen 'em all we know it all. There's no more to be read in the subject and this one is no exception. It doesn't help that this one is superbly written with very entertaining examples. Don't buy it!

Book Description
This volume provides an overview of our current understanding of the physics related to: coronal structures and coronal heating; large-scale coronal shock waves and coronal mass ejections; particle beams in the solar corona and in the interplanetary medium; and explosive energy-release phenomena and particle acceleration. The different articles give a well-balanced presentation of relevant observations based upon various techniques, models and theories, providing a global view of these phenomena and of the underlying physics. In-situ measurements of particles and waves with ULYSSES and WIND and spectral and imaging data from SOHO and YOHKOH provide an unprecedented richness of relevant data. For their better understanding, radio observations - also included in this book - play a key role.

Book Description
The conversion of energy generated in the Sun's interior creates its hot corona and a wealth of dynamical phenomena such as flares and mass ejections. Based on recent significant progress in understanding magnetic reconnection and a wealth of new observations of energetic particle signatures from the Sun, the present volume reviews the current theoretical and experimental status in the field. Paying attention to both the details and the broader picture, this book addresses both the experienced researcher as well as nonspecialist researchers from related areas and postgraduate students in astrophsics.

Breakthrough on Skis I: Expert Skiing Simplified
ASIN: 0974625418 |
Book Description
The Essential Guide to Skiing is no rehash of the standard “how to ski” books, simply updated with newer pictures of newer equipment and clothing. Nor is it “Skiing for Dummies.” Instead, it is a comprehensive book packed with authoritative advice on every aspect of the sport. For novices, there is information on how to walk in ski boots, when and where to rent equipment, and where to attach a lift ticket. Experienced skiers can learn how to find the shortest lift lines to the best slopes, discover the best goggle lens colors for flat light, and uncover the best powder stashes even when the mountain looks skied out. Other subjects range from the financial (finding the cheapest lift tickets) to the mundane (evaluating the fiber content of a pair of ski socks) to the creative (how to take great action pictures and videos). Extensive black-and-white photographs add to the fun.
Customer Reviews:
Excellent Book.......2007-05-07
Loaded with tidbits to make your skiing experience better... Some of the stuff is common sense but other material in the book is useful and very worthwhile. If you are new to skiing or just finally getting into the grove of the sport, I think you will find this book interesting, useful and practical. The author gives some excellent advice. Even if you only pick up just a few things from this book, I think it is well worth the price of addmission. Happy skiing!
Great book for any skiier (beginner or expert)........2005-12-28
I usually don't write reviews for purchases I make. If I'm having to write a review for this one, it really means something.
I found this book very useful and informative. This book covers everything from boots and skis to vacations and lesssons. This book is almost like an Encyclopedia for anything skiing related. Skiiers of all caliber can greatly benefit from reading this book. Great read!
Hey, this is a really cool book.......2005-10-12
I must say this is a really cool book. I mean, first of all, the title is exactly what this book is about "Things Every Skier Must Know". Finally, a book that lives up to its title! Daaamn! This book is quite unique in that it does not teach you ski technique or ski mechanics or ski maintenance...just way, way too many of these books. Instead, this book teaches you stuff...really useful, practical stuff like how to hook up your skis on your car rack...the right way! Or how to look for a well-qualified ski instructor - believe me, this is not an easy task to do! I've taken so many ski lessons and ended up with so many bad ski instructors, it's not even funny and I pretty much had to learn skiing on my own. There is also great advice on how to prepare for a ski vacation and some brief notes on skiing on various terrains and even a chapter on ski racing! This book ponders on almost every aspect of skiing but the kitchen sink (What does that have to do with skiing, you wonder...absolutely nothing). I highly recommend this book. It is a great read on the plane or long trips to the ski resort. I mean it is quite lengthy for a ski book, but then I can't recall a ski book that is about everything there is to know about skiing?
Vital information for new skiers.......2005-02-18
This book contains a lot of information useful to new skiers. I wish I had it when I started skiing a few years ago. Worth at least the price of a few skiing lessons.

Excellent summary of top ski resorts, where to stay & go.......1998-09-14
The book has good overall background on each state's skiing, then goes into detail on each of the resorts it rates as the best in the US. Though I would have liked more than 30 places to be covered (Breckenridge, Kirkwood, Grand Targhee and some other very good resorts are missing) the areas that are covered have good detail about the background and history of the resort, the skiing (recommended trails are broken out by ability level) where to stay and where to dine. It is an invaluable reference when going to these places for the first time, and I have used it at many of these resorts to find the good trails and good bars and restaurants. It is very readable, and to the point, and generally matches what you'd hear from locals and people who've been there. There is also an introduction that includes general tips and information for planning a ski vacation. Well worth reading when planning a vacation, and referring to when there.

Caroline Long discovers the family she never knew existed when she runs away and joins Shawnee Sam’s Wild West Extravaganza. “The Wild West show milieu and the effect it has on the Indians who work in it ring true, and readers will empathize with the eternal struggle of a teenager trying to find her place in the world.”-Booklist
Customer Reviews:
The Last Rainmaker.......1998-03-02
The Last Rainmaker, by Sherry Garland, epitomizes the struggles of a girl to be recognized in both the American Indian world and the white. Sherry Garland, however, touches on something more wordly here as well: respect of other cultures comes not by ignorance, but by acceptance of their gifts to nature and civilization. Though Caroline Long, the protagonist, is urged to ignore her mother's background, she discovers that all cultures must and can live together if they gain a respect for each other. Using the innocence of a child, Garland embodies all aspecs of a struggle of a girl to "fit in" wherever she goes, a childish act completed by so many youths today, even if it means drugs or violence. A good accompanying book is A Light in the Forest, by Conrad Richter, for the boy in that book must also, in the end, choose the path he wants to take, not having the option of the best of both worlds. Maybe these authors want to state that harmony comes with acceptance.
