How To Be A Happy Manager, No Matter The Consequences.......2000-05-29

In describing how to deal with employees who go to management with complaints about other employees, the authors insist (w/o evidence) that such complaints are "...only inside the fighter's head!" Their recommendation is to train such employees to think happy thoughts. Contrary to the authors' prescription, strong management is not for those who hide behind happy thoughts, but requires the ability to confront and deal with real issues and genuine personnel problems - instead of comfortably convincing oneself that any complaint is false and need not be dealt with.

One of the toughest duties of running or managing a small or mid-size company is keeping good staff, especially those with jobs on the lower end of the pay scale. Lauer advocates starting with a plan and then hiring the right people and then training them. Far too many companies hire warm bodies and expect they can train them to be outstanding. Lauer points out the fallacy in that idea and explains why doing what is necessary to hire great candidates puts a company far ahead of others. Lauer also suggests several ways to keep good employees and teaches you how to terminate employees without causing you or the employee an excessive amount of grief.

I bought copies for all my managers. You should too.

Water quality in ponds also extends into the areas of environmental protection and food quality and safety, which are increasingly important in today's world.

I will never see Tony the same again. It is so well written that I never got bored reading it and I cannot say that for all sports related books I have read.

A Great Baseball Book.......2007-05-07

This is one of the best baseball books out there. Bissinger takes the reader to many levels of the game, and gives a lot of insite to Tony LaRussa as a manager and tactician. I strongly recommend this book for any baseball fan. It is a really great read.

A basic book on baseball.......2007-04-13

A well written book that provided some insight into the game, particularly the thought process of a manager. For that I give it three stars.

But '3 Nights' was neither as enlightening nor thought provoking as a 5-star sports book - such as 'The Game' by Ken Dryden, 'Beyond the Sixth Game' by Gammons, or Lewis' 'Moneyball'. At times, Bissigner's work came across more as a hero worship of La Russa than a study of the game, which detracted from the author's credibility to accurately assess what he witnessed and learned from the dugout.

Great Book for any Cardinals Fan.......2007-01-21

Buzz Bissinger is an absolutly fantastic writer. This book combines an indepth behind the scenes look at Larussa and others, but also gives a lot of inside info on players like JD Drew, Pujols, and others. I love hearing about the managerial strategy, what happens after the game, in the club house etc. I'm not a big reader, but once I started this book, I couldn't put it down.

Book Description

The book Timon's Tide is about a boy named Daniel. He is 17 years old, he lived with his mother who is remarried and prenant. 6 years ago his older brother Timon die of a drugs related accident. Daniel blame himself for his brother death. Now he must accept the fact that his older brother is dead and doesn't have a brother to advise him on how to express his love to the girl he like. He still think that his older brother is still alive because Timon keep on reappearing. Now he must solve the mystery his older brother death so that he can move on with his life. I think the book is confusing because it skip some part that I think were important. It did not talk about Daniel's real problem. The book did not decribes the charaters clearly. It talk about drugs, affair, and mental problem which did not go well in the story. I did not like the ending of the book because nothing good happen and it just leave me hanging. Overall I did not like the book.
