      Book Description

Students perform virtually the entire accounting cycle in a process-cost setting with this thorough practice case. The case effectively integrates several of the most demanding cost accounting topics into a single, coherent whole. Students can complete considerable work in the case before more demanding topics are presented in the classroom. After predetermined overhead rates, the step method, and spoilage are covered by the instructor, then students can finish the case. For brevity this case completes the accounting cycle after one month of operation. Students handle all transactions, from general journal entries to making numerous adjusting entries at month-end and preparing the income statement for the month. Previous editions have been extensively class tested to ensure an effective case that requires little instructor supervision.

5 out of 5 stars Best book ever on this topic.......2006-01-15

I'm a management consultant who used to be a corporate recruiter, and have taught thousands of managers and executives how to interview others. This is the ONLY book I recommend. It is exceptionally detailed, and provides a complete approach. It gives you scripts, and tells you what to do and say in each part of the interview. It also tells you the one thing managers always forget to ask (and other books don't address) about interviewing: it's not enough to know which questions to ask, you must also know HOW TO EVALUATE THE ANSWERS YOU GET.

This is the only book you need about how to interview.

This book finally allowed me to be able to hire the right people, unfortunately near the time I sold my business. I only wish I had found it when I went into business, however that was before the book was published.

                Book Description

In January 1927 Gus Comstock, a barbershop porter in the small Minnesota town of Fergus Falls, drank eighty cups of coffee in seven hours and fifteen minutes. The New York Times reported that near the end, amid a cheering crowd, the man's "gulps were labored, but a physician examining him found him in pretty good shape." The event was part of a marathon coffee-drinking spree set off two years earlier by news from the Commerce Department that coffee imports to the United States amounted to five hundred cups per year per person.

In Coffee, Society, and Power in Latin America, a distinguished international group of historians, anthropologists, and sociologists examine the production, processing, and marketing of this important commodity. Using coffee as a common denominator and focusing on landholding patterns, labor mobilization, class structure, political power, and political ideologies, the authors examine how Latin American countries of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries responded to the growing global demand for coffee.

This unique volume offers an integrated comparative study of class formation in the coffee zones of Latin America as they were incorporated into the world economy. It offers a new theoretical and methodological approach to comparative historical analysis and will serve as a critique and counter to those who stress the homogenizing tendencies of export agriculture. The book will be of interest not only to experts on coffee economies but also to students and scholars of Latin America, labor history, the economics ofdevelopment, and political economy.

                        Book Description

With Jim Arnosky as your guide, an ordinary hike becomes an eye-opening experience. He'll help you spot a hawk soaring far overhead and note the details of a dragonfly up close. Study the black-and-white drawings -- based on his own field research -- and you'll discover if those tracks in the brush were made by a deer or a fox.

In his celebrated style, this author, artist, and naturalist enthusiastically shares a wealth of tips. Jim Arnosky wants you to enjoy watching wildlife. He carefully explains how field marks, shapes, and location give clues for identifying certain plants and animals wherever you are. He gives hints for sharpening observational skills. And he encourages you to draw and record birds, insects, shells, animal tracks, and other finds from a busy day's watch.

5 out of 5 stars Fun book for 4 nature activities .......2004-08-05

This book takes you thru 4 specific nature activities, using nature drawings & giving things to look for etc. I think we will enjoy this when we wish to do any of the 4 activities. It is not, however, a how-to book for general nature observation or nature notebooks, as I had thought. But the 4 activities are good -- bug hunting, bird watching, animal tracking, and shore walking.

Lots of info about tracks and courses, how to get the ideal line in an apex, and how to drive smoothly and fast gain control, then it repeats itself again, so this makes an illusion that there are a lot of secrets even though he is just repeating it using different verbiage. This is a great book for advanced racers that understand the concept and terminology of F1 type races and it helps you prepare for a F1 race too but for an average driver trying to learn the ropes this book might be to hard and doesn't help much with everyday driving since a lot of the techniques is for driving above 150mph and plus F1 has totally different suspension systems and steering systems then regular sport cars so if you try it it might feel weird. You learn the heal toe move which I have been trying to get for a while, very detailed and lots of graphs, data charts, and drawings. I personally had to skip some chapters because I was not interested tracks, officials, and what they do with the flags, and some more stuff because a lot of it does not apply to me as I do not own a formula car or race professionally in such a track they described, but I did read about perfect turning and control plus weight transfer and how to keep that center of gravity which helps me in the real world of driving on the streets. I feel that I am going a lot faster in my car by being able to turn safely yet not slowing my car down to much where it would take longer to accelerate plus I have been able to drive fast yet so smooth that my mom fell asleep the whole time as I drove her. So i was really happy with that info. I am a mechanic and I test race clients vehicles at the track, my average speed is 140mph so you know my point of view

This book is an absolute must for any novice or even intermediate racer. I race karts often and bought this book recently to enhance my skills.
Within a week of reading this book I have already dropped more than a FULL SECOND off my lap times!!! MUST READ MATERIAL!

5 out of 5 stars Race Car Resource.......2007-04-10

Any gearhead should read this book about racing. Learn what race car drivers do while on the circuit and find out about car modifications.

5 out of 5 stars My review of an excellent book.......2007-02-27

This book is an absolute must read for any gear head. Whether your planning to race professionally, or just moddifing your daily driver. This book will change your entire view on racing, and will affect your daily drivig habbits.

The book also goes over different aspects of your suspension, what each component does, and how altering them will affect the cars handling.

After reading this book I have been more focused on driving smoothly, and being more precise with the controls. Already, I can see the positive effects on my driving style.

Note however, that this book is written for racing, so some information may not apply to daily driven vehicles, e.g. shifting without the clutch

4 out of 5 stars A great primer on racing........2007-01-26

This book is an excellent introduction to what race car drivers do, why they do it, and how they do it. Before I read this book, all I knew about car racing was "race cars go around a track real fast". Now I know about the apex, under/oversteer, scrubbing off speed, trail braking, and finding the line. There's also penty of info on suspension tuning if I ever feel like spending the bucks to have it done.

I am so happy I read this book prior to my first autocross event in my 911. I able to take the concepts explained in the book and immediately apply them to the course I was racing. And I beat my big-mouth buddy by 1/10th of a second. Sweeeeeeeeeet.

4 out of 5 stars Speed Secrets II: More Professional race driving techniques.......2007-08-23

The first few chapters didn't tell you much in the way of coaching you to be better. I think 1/4 into the book, the information is very helpful in isolating and working the different components within a practice session towards driving faster (i.e. work on the entry speed, work on the driving line, work on traction sensing, etc...) I gave it 4 stars, because the book could have deleted the first few chapters.

5 out of 5 stars The Second Step in Racing Learning.......2006-06-28

In the second book of the Speed Secret Series, it goes in racing learning more in depth than the first book, it starts with preparing the racer to be a Complete Race Driver, it shows what racers should have, such as Racing Skills, Physical Skills, Career Skills, Marketing Skills, Mental Skills and Testing Skills.
Also it talks in depth about car preparing and learning new driving techniques and tricks.

All of Speed Secrets Books are well written and easy to be understood by new racers.

I recommend reading the first Speed Secrets Book, then practice the techniques in test days and real races, after the driver understand the book well, he should get the second book to learn more about racing gradually.

5 out of 5 stars Speed Secrets 2: More Professional Race Driving Techniques.......2006-02-20

Another great book in the series. Brings up things one wouldn't necessarily have attended to in the beginning. Good for general driving, too.

5 out of 5 stars The companion book to book 1........2005-05-16

If you are looking for books on racing driving techniques then at least start with books by Ross Bentley.I bought this book and book 1 and they are books that go together.

This book covers more detail and starts where book 1 left off.Things like computer racing/simulations games are good too.

I highly recommend this book and book 1 for anyone interested in racing.

4 out of 5 stars Needs to be combined with the others he's written.......2004-10-30

There's a lot of good info in this book, lots of stuff to provoke thought, and it is presented in a very simple and easy to understand format that communicates the points well - like a military training manual (but with a little more humour)

Unfortunately, it tends to rehash subjects discussed in Speed Secrets and Inner Speed Secrets, which means that the amount of new material (for owners of the other two) is roughly half of what is already a pretty thin book.

Between the three books, there is one outstanding book in there. If Mr Bentley writes another installment (as he threatens to do in this book) I hope he compliles all his books into one big one, adds a couple of new chapters to cover whatever new material he wants to add, and then edits it into a coherent whole.

I have read just about every guide book on Sri Lanka and this is by far my favourite. The author actually lives in Sri Lanka and therefore writes from years of experience as opposed to other authors who get their info from research trips. Although the guide is geared towards rail travel, it also contains useful material on Sri Lanka travel in general.

                          Product Description

On the demand side, exporters and strategic planners focusing on iron and steel angles, shapes, sections (excluding rails), and sheet piling in Sri Lanka face a number of questions. Which countries are supplying iron and steel angles, shapes, sections (excluding rails), and sheet piling to Sri Lanka? How important is Sri Lanka compared to others in terms of the entire global and regional market? How much do the imports of iron and steel angles, shapes, sections (excluding rails), and sheet piling vary from one country of origin to another in Sri Lanka? On the supply side, Sri Lanka also exports iron and steel angles, shapes, sections (excluding rails), and sheet piling. Which countries receive the most exports from Sri Lanka? How are these exports concentrated across buyers? What is the value of these exports and which countries are the largest buyers? This report was created for strategic planners, international marketing executives and import/export managers who are concerned with the market for iron and steel angles, shapes, sections (excluding rails), and sheet piling in Sri Lanka. With the globalization of this market, managers can no longer be contented with a local view. Nor can managers be contented with out-of-date statistics which appear several years after the fact. I have developed a methodology, based on macroeconomic and trade models, to estimate the market for iron and steel angles, shapes, sections (excluding rails), and sheet piling for those countries serving Sri Lanka via exports, or supplying from Sri Lanka via imports. It does so for the current year based on a variety of key historical indicators and econometric models. In what follows, Chapter 2 begins by summarizing where Sri Lanka fits into the world market for imported and exported iron and steel angles, shapes, sections (excluding rails), and sheet piling. The total level of imports and exports on a worldwide basis, and those for Sri Lanka in particular, is estimated using a model which aggregates across over 150 key country markets and projects these to the current year. From there, each country represents a percent of the world market. This market is served from a number of competitive countries of origin. Based on both demand- and supply-side dynamics, market shares by country of origin are then calculated across each country market destination. These shares lead to a volume of import and export values for each country and are aggregated to regional and world totals. In doing so, we are able to obtain maximum likelihood estimates of both the value of each market and the share that Sri Lanka is likely to receive this year. From these figures, rankings are calculated to allow managers to prioritize Sri Lanka compared to other major country markets. In this way, all the figures provided in this report are forecasts that can be combined with internal information sources for strategic planning purposes.

5 out of 5 stars Love it, love it, love it!!!!.......2006-12-13

This remains my favourite Sweet Dreams book of all time and that's saying a lot as I own 250 books of the series! I'm a sucker for the cliché romantic formula of hate at first sight, even more when it's partnered with the `girl and boy pretend to be a couple' formula. This plot is by no means original but it's a refreshing, fun and witty read. Darby and Bruce meet when their cars collide into each other's and shortly realize it's a small world after all when Darby's cousin sets her up on a blind date later that day with none other than Bruce himself. Accusations of being a `Neanderthal' and a lousy driver are flung back and forth until Darby has to enlist Bruce's help in an attempt to get rid of the unwanted attention from another student.

The characters are endearing without being obnoxious and their run-ins with each other are hilarious. I owned this book when I was a teenager and lost it when I loaned it to a friend. It took another 10 years to track it down through ebay just as I was about ready to buy another copy of it somewhere else for $50!!! I've read this book many times, even now as a 30-year old and I always finish it with a smile on my face.

                                5 out of 5 stars Definitely a must-have.......2002-05-18

I once had a copy of this book but lended it to a friend and never got it back. It took me three years to find a copy again and it was worth it because this book is so funny and so cute that anybody who ever liked young adult romance should have this title in her (or his?) personal library.

                                5 out of 5 stars Memories.......2001-06-26

I read this book when I was in my early teens. It brought me such emense joy, that when asked my favorite book, it always springs to mind. When it is not kosher for a 20-something woman to admit that she still loves a teen romance novel, I do. It always brings back wonderful memories, and it makes me happy just to remember the characters. Bruce and Darby are as much of my teenage years as algebra and history. This one of the best books I've EVER read. I just wish I had my own copy ! It's very funny and romantic but not only that.. The characters and storylines are so well constructed that you feel like you know them. An excellent re-readable book

5 out of 5 stars An Enjoyable Read.......2000-04-23

I read "Wrong Way Romance" many times when I was younger and still remember the characters. At one point I had intended to steal the book from the library, but I returned it and never found it again. "Wrong Way Romance" is an enjoyable read and hopefully I will find it again someday!
