Good book, however exercises results don't match guides.......1998-02-27

As a college professor I use this book to teach Peachtree Accounting Ver 3.5 for Windows. Glencoe has a good product that could be alot better. Student results often don't match the instructor guides, and math errors abound throughout the book. Preimer Fitness Club, the sample firm, Chart of Account requires category modifications that the text does not cover. As a result the Balance Sheet, Income Statement, and Profit and Loss Summaries don't come out correctly until you figure out what's wrong. Informing Glencoe has yet to result in any improvements in the text. The text does a poor job in instructing students how to load a sample company, restore data, and proper backup to a floppy disk.

This book clearly illustrates the limitations of using chemical thermodynamics to describe chemical phenomena in soils--especially with regard to kinetics and molecular mechanisms--and proposes that the quantitative description of soils is not complete without adequate characterization of the rates of the chemical reactions. The author, a renowned authority in the field, focuses on reactions in the soil solution and considers aqueous phase properties. He also cogently draws distinctions between thermodynamic chemical species and kinetic chemical species. Description:
Speciation modeling is an essential tool to estimate the chemical composition of an aqueous sample and to assess the bioavailability and potential risks associated with metal contamination. It is also an indispensable alternative for quantifying the metal speciation when analytical techniques are not available. In this study, we tested the effectiveness of two models, WinHumicV and the Non-Ideal Competitive Adsorption (NICA)-Donnan model, in predicting the amount of Cd^2^+ and Pb^2^+, which were originally measured by anodic stripping voltammetry (ASV). In general, with its default parameters, WinHumicV satisfactorily estimated the free Cd concentrations. For Pb, at high pH the model predictions were lower than the ASV measurements. The discrepancy between the measured and predicted free Pb concentrations may be attributed to the uncertainty of stability constants in WHAM model V for metal-DOC interactions, or the possible overestimation of free metals by ASV at high pH. Using the published generic parameters for fulvic acid (FA), the consistent NICA-Donnan model also made predictions comparable to the experimental data when Al and Fe competition was taken into account in the model. The agreement of model predictions and experimental data demonstrates that both models provide reasonable predictions of the metal speciation in soil solutions. However, the results stress the requirement of estimates or measurements of Al and Fe concentrations in soil solution speciation to provide reasonable estimates of trace element speciation.

I have a friend that I was constantly asking cycling questions. He has been riding for 3 decades and said I'd like this book and that the information helped shape his technique and training. I read it and learned a ton. It helped me conceptualize ideas about training, ability, fitness, planning, peaking for races and nutrition.

Good for serious training.......2007-08-23

I'm new to serious cycling and bought this book along with Bernard Hinault's Road Racing. the Hinault book though somewhat dated (1986) is better for a beginner as it discusses the fundamentals in a more accessible way. Friel's book is much bigger and targeted more towards a serious racer with charts on training regimen and so on. Even then, it is a book that a beginner would find useful as it covers a lot of the stuff that Hinault covers such as training zones, nutrition and so on.

Excellent training resource.......2007-07-06

I have been reading this book over the last couple weeks and I have found it to be tremendously helpful. My cycling training used to be nothing more than a series of rides that I chose as I was rolling out of the driveway. This book provides the reader with knowledge and tools to create a more effective program that will help improve results. It is not really something you sit down and read straight through (although you could). It is more useful than that. It serves as a reference for constructing training programs and teaches you what data to record and how to understand it. This has already improved my training program and I'm sure it will pay long-term dividends.

Great Book.......2007-05-14

This is one of best training books out there, full of very interesting and informative information. I also have the Triathletes Training Bible.

Good but a little disapointed.......2007-05-13

I had heard excellent reviews of Joe Friel's work and of this book specifically and overall I am disapointed with it. While Dr. Friel does offer good information there certainly were not any great new revelations found in the book. While I did pick up a few good pointers there was nothing that would completely change my training programe.

One of the best cajun cookbooks.......2004-03-10

This book contains wonderful stories as well as recipes from those cajun ladies in south Louisiana. The recipes are usually quick and easy to make, your company will think you spent the entire day in the kitchen. I have found many of these recipes are great for entertaining either large or small groups. Some of my favorite recipes are Crawfish Fettuchine, Aunt Doodie's Chocolat Cake and Cherrie Bounce. If you have tried the other two Jr. League of Lafayette cookbooks you will truely fine this book continues the tradition of fine southern Louisiana cooking.

A great cookbook for families on the go.......2004-03-09

I love this book for it's easy, delicious recipes and wonderful stories about life in Southern Louisiana. Many of these recipes have become family favorites at our house. The recipes use fewer ingredients and most recipes are quick and easy for those of us without a lot of time.

There are better Cajun Cookbooks available.......2001-09-17

First: the positive-
The drawings in this book are wonderful. They are very true to life (at least for the part of Louisiana my husband comes from.)
The stories are the reason I bought this book. There is a lot of information regarding the culture and traditions of the Acadians and the lifestyle of Southern LA. The recipes are good.

Second: the needs work part-
These recipes were gathered together from a group of people. Because of this, many of the recipes are not typically cajun recipes. For example, there are many pasta recipes which have nothing to do with Cajun cooking. If you are looking for a cookbook with traditional Louisiana cooking try Talk about Good.

However, if you collect cookbooks and want to add an interesting cookbook to your collection, this is the one. Just realize that you will find many recipes in this book that are already in other cookbooks. If you are interested in reading about Louisiana and want some traditional recipes, this is a good book to get. Just realize that there will many non-Louisiana recipes included in this book.

Good Only as a Supplement.......2000-12-09

This book can't really stand on its own, but is a good supplement to Talk About Good I and II. The artwork is great the stories by Sonnier are delightfully nostalgic. I found the text, however, to be unorganized and the recipes seemed to be reminiscent of ones that could be found on the back of a Campbell's Soup can. As a transplanted Cajun living away from Louisiana, I always refer to T.A.G. I and II and use them religiously and only refer to Tell Me More if I want a variation on a recipe that I already know.

The best book about who the early Yosemite Native Americans are........2006-02-25

This book was written by the one of two men to meet and write about Chief Tenaya and the Native Americans of Yosemite. The other man was a reporter embeded with the Mariposa Battalion who wrote for the Stockton Republic. Both men document that Chief Tenaya was the founder of the Paiute Colony of Yosemite. That Chief Tenaya spoke Paiute. The reporter writes that Chief Bautista called the Ahwahneechees the "Monahs". Which would concluded that the original Native Americans of Yosemite were Mono Paiutes and not Miwoks. In fact in Bunnell's book after Chief Tenayas death the remaining Ahwahneechees/Paiutes were taken back to Mono Lake in 1854. The next year the only Indians in Yosemite were Paiutes from Mono Lake. THAT IS IN THE BOOK. There are many mentions of Monos and Paiutes being Chief Tenaya's band, BUT NOT ONE MENTION OF MIWOKS. We Paiutes don't understand why no one at Yosemite National Park has read this book. This is THE Original book about the Indian people of Yosemite. The Native American people of Yosemite and Hetch Hetchy. A MUST READ FOR ALL OF YOU TO WANT TO KNOW THE TRUE HISTORY OF THE INDIANS OF YOSEMITE.
IF YOU CAN GET THE ORIGINAL, AND NOT THE REVISED VERSION.

I would say that this book is a must for anyone who wants to envision the early entry by non-Native Americans into the "Yo-Semite". One definitely gets a "You Are There" experience by reading this book and gains an understanding of the conflicts that brought Bunnell and his group to the area. ....
