A common failure of the modern world is to forget the blood, sweat, and tears that developed today's society. "The Grain Harvesters" by authors Graeme Quick and Wesley Buchele provides an excellent look at the evolution of modern grain harvesting, and the ingenuity of many men of diverse backgrounds that facilitated the technological change.
A well written, and captivating narrative, this book rates among the best. The book is well organized, includes numerous illustrations, and is a literal storehouse of historical harvesting information.

This is perhaps one of the more intellectual stimulating toxicology books put out for the general public. Landis, unlike many of his modern day contemporaries, literally gives the reader an indepth insight into the discipline of toxicology as related to biology, chemistry, ecology, and general mathematics. Furthermore, the author significantly explains the beneficial use of Risk Assessments and Risk Analysis as related to ecotoxicity and exposure in the environment.
From an environmental science standpoint, the author communicates his ideas and theoretical/scientific idealms well to the reader for he or she to get a thorough understanding. Terms and scientific expressions as related to the field of environmental toxicology are well explained throughout the text.
This book is a must have for all those desiring a more detailed and thorough scientific and informative background in the field of environmental toxicology as it relates to ecotoxicity and environmental fate and exposure of chemicals in the enviroment.

As a young man, Jeff Galloway traveled the world and entered international running events, satiating his desire to compete and cultivating his love of the sport. He became the "running equivalent to a ski bum," and his book, Galloway's Book on Running, retains that laid-back feel while still managing to be an incredibly comprehensive source. Anecdotal and engaging, the book opens with an American running history and the Five Stages of a Runner, which sets a bar by which you can measure yourself and minimize "the pitfalls and maximize the gains of your running future." Galloway then describes how the three levels of training--base, hills, speed--are crucial to enhancing and improving performance. Reasonable mileage programs for specific race distances, such as "Less mileage for a faster 10K," address the many myths circulating about mileage requirements for injury-free and effective training programs. You'll also find such minutiae as the natural reactions of the human body when running in hot or cold weather and hints for a more comfortable run. It's only 32 pages, but Middleditch does a nice job of cramming a lot of information into a tight space. The maps outline most of the central city and provide a very nice level of detail. The rundown of places of interest, restaurants, hotel, etc. are sparse, but well chosen. By no means does The Amsterdam Mapguide substitute for a solid guidebook, but it is easy to carry around and helpful for business travelers or others on a short trip through the city looking to get around and to find someplace interesting to fill a spare afternoon or two.

appropriate for teens, but not pre-teens.......2004-01-14
This review is about book #1 only: I read this book with my mother/daughter book group, the girls in the group range in age from 12-14. It is definitely a page-turner! However, the sex references throughout were a bit much for the 12-13 year olds. (The heroine is 17.) Gaia's references at the beginning of the book to her self-perceived heavy thighs and shoulders did not match up with the raging beauty that others saw in her as the book progresses. She is a strong female role model, but is foolish -- who walks through a park at night trying to lure attackers?? Not one of the loose ends are tied up by the end of the book -- the author wants you to read the entire series to find out what happens to all the characters. Most of the girls in the group decided they weren't interested enough to read more in the series. The one who did read book #2 reported that still none of the loose ends are tied up. The book is good to get kids who don't like to read interested in reading again. One annoying thing: the differently sized fonts throughout the book slowed down the reading, it could do without those.

this book is really really good. it's even better than betrayed. it keeps you in suspense about the condition of her father. ed and gaia's romance keeps budding. then, near the end...well i'm not gonna tell you. but a familiar person pops up and surprised gaia and myself! you should definitely buy this book. or at least borrow it from the library. it's definitely worth it!!
Not bad..........2003-01-15
Well i was surprised they combined the first book with the 25th. This book and "betryal" the 24th book had just started to pick up to the good old books i used to love. I love that ed and Gaia are a little bit happy. I think it was kind of dumb of the surprise you get near the end. But overall it wasnt bad, and i look forward to the 26th and so on, and so forth. Enjoy :-)
