Ever since the boom of spectrum analysis in the 1860s, spectroscopy has become one of the most fruitful research technologies in analytic chemistry, physics, astronomy, and other sciences. This book is the first in-depth study of the ways in which various types of spectra, especially the sun's Fraunhofer lines, have been recorded, displayed, and interpreted. The book assesses the virtues and pitfalls of various types of depictions, including hand sketches, woodcuts, engravings, lithographs and, from the late 1870s onwards, photomechanical reproductions. The material of a 19th-century engraver or lithographer, the daily research practice of a spectroscopist in the laboratory, or a student's use of spectrum posters in the classroom, all are looked at and documented here. For pioneers of photography such as John Herschel or Hermann Wilhelm Vogel, the spectrum even served as a prime test object for gauging the color sensitivity of their processes. This is a broad, contextual portrayal of the visual culture of spectroscopy in the 19th and early 20th centuries. The illustrations are not confined to spectra - they show instruments, laboratories, people at work, and plates of printing manuals.The result is a multifacetted description, focusing on the period from Fraunhofer up to the beginning of Bohr's quantum theory. A great deal of new and fascinating material from two dozen archives has been included. A must for anyone interested in the history of modern science, or in research practice using visual representations.

Application to Golf Too Sketchy.......2007-01-30
This is a very good fitness book. Now that I've read a couple of others on Golf Fitness, I think this one has good strengthening & stretching exercises for golfers. My chief criticism is that its applicability to different aspects of the game of golf is too sketchy for golfers who don't understand how fitness will benefit their game and their overall health and well-being. The best golf fitness book I've read is Cindy Reid's book, GET YOURSELF IN GOLF SHAPE, which I HIGHLY recommend over this one.

Excellent routines.......2006-02-09
You probably have noticed that when your body is loose, you play better. If any of your golf muscles is tight, chances are your swing becomes inconsistent, no matter how much concentration you put into it. So instead of buying another golf swing book, do yourself a favor and get this one. This book offers a pre-game warm-up routine, a post-game stretch routine. These two alone will help you keep those muscles loose. In addition to that you will find a number of exercises to enhance both flexibility and power.
Although I do not own any other golf fitness book, I believe some of them out there are simply re-branded regular fitness books. This one was obviously custom-written with the golfer in mind. The routines are simple and make you work on all those golf muscles, in particular those that need warmup to prevent injury (shoulders, hips). A photo and three lines of text describe each routine step, and in any doubt on how to perform a move, just watch the dvd.
Initially, I only used the warm-up routine, but now I am going back to the book and use the post-game stretching regularly. They prevent the muscles to snap back in a tighter state than they were before the game. As a result, my occasional lower back pain have reduced, and I am ready for the next game in no time.
All in all, highly recommended.

My favorite map to use........2005-04-03
I love the Easyfinder laminated maps from Rand McNally. They are extremely durable, meaning I won't have to repurchase a map that gets torn, spilled on, or just plain worn out. Even better, I can mark my routes & destinations on them with dry erase marker, then just wipe off when no longer needed. Map detail is top notch, as you would expect from Rand McNally. 5 stars, definitely my favorite maps.

This is one of the best books i have read. It was so funny. Marshall was one of the funniest characthers i've had the pleasure of reading about. I love Mr Haynes writing style. If anybody want a good laugh this is the book for them.
Something Different can by good for you........2000-06-12
RIGHT BY MY SIDE was a good diversion from the hectic day. It reached into the center of the title character as he bared his soul and became honest with him view about his mother, father, and himself as a young man growing up within his troubled family. Even I couldn't have guessed the ending, and that made the trip worth the effort. Good job, David!
Right By My Side.......1999-12-16
The novel Right By My Side, by David Haynes is an insightful piece of work with a believable protagonist that must cope with believable problems. This book should be read by any adolescent who is experiencing divorce or has a difficult family life. The novel is one most people could relate to, but I don't recomend it for those who like a challenge. It's straight foward (and perhaps offensive dialect) is honest and gives the novel its edge to reality. A simple, yet pleasant read.
