Excellent information!.......2007-08-26

This book was great for precise and concise information about where to snorkel on the Big Island. We used it daily to decide where we would go. It also gave information about where it was safe to take our 2 young and inexperienced snorkelers as well as where to park, the easiest place for entry, and which direction to head once you are in the water. I highly recommend this book.

Great snorkeling guide to Big Island.......2006-07-05

While a couple years old at this point, this book still pointed the way for me on a recent week of snorkeling on Hawaii. Excellent descriptions and maps of specific reefs and beaches. Good opening introduction to snorkeling for novices. If you are heading to the big island for snorkeling, spend time before your trip with this book and it will pay huge dividends.

Maps Alone Make It Worth The Price.......2006-03-28

After three weeks of snorkeling the Big Island, our copy of Snorkel Hawaii - The Big Island, is dog-eared. The maps of snorkeling spots are worth every penny of the book. They are clear and show everything necessary: best water entry points, best snorkeling spots in a bay (differing between beginning, intermediate, and advanced snorkelers), landmarks, parking, and amenities such as showers and restrooms. The Sites at a Glance section presents all the sites in chart format with ratings, entry difficulty, amenities, and brief remarks. The book helped us target our snorkeling time and we swam with both dolphins and sea turtles, viewing a moray eel and more varieties of tropical fish than we were able to count!

This guide is invaluable for locating the best snorkel sites on the Big Island. Its guide to the best sites, how accessible each is, and how to find public parking for them, is priceless. I just returned from a trip to the Big Island and used this guide not only for finding the best snorkeling sites but also the best swimming beachers and how to find those elusive public parking spaces for them. A fantastic guide, completely up-to-date and accurate.

Thorough.......2003-03-03

This book was aimed for a largely British audience. It gives extremely thorough descriptions of the long route from Oslo to Trondheim, as well as fair and forthright critiques of the state of lodgings & etc. along the way. I have yet to take the journey myself, so can't comment on how reliable it is as an actual guide, but the historical information, resources and advice seem like the perfect starting point should one want to do the route.

Unsatisfactory ending.......1999-05-23

The Student Body is an excellent academic mystery. The college setting and English Dept. intriques come across as authentic. But as an old-fashioned mystery, The Student Body has a number of flaws.

Number one big problem is the identity of the murderer. I had that bagged very early in the novel. Four scenes held all the essential clues.

Then there is another problem with a supposed major clue that the amateur sleuth stumbles across much later in the book. I simply can't see this

particular clue working as well as it does.

And, then there is the irritating issue of the setting of Bowmouth College. How big is Bowmouth? The map provided in the frontispiece depicts a little place. And, the early chapters seem to indicate a smallish Maine liberal arts college with a small medical school. But as the story progresses, Bowmouth College seems to grow and grow. By about page 200, the college is sporting a Faculty of Forestry. And, there are libraries everywhere. In short, the setting just isn't nailed down.

As for the sleuth Sarah Deane, I kept forgetting her name. For some reason, Sarah just isn't memorable enough.

Winter Carnival!!.......2006-06-18

Sometimes you dream something that felt so real when you wake up from it. Has that happened to you before? Well that's what happened to a girl in this book, Winter Carnival, by Francine Pascal.This book is about a girl named Elizabeth Wakefield. Her life was going down the drain. Especially when her sister, Jessica, starts to borrow her clothes, doesn't do her chores, and is just plain annoying. Sometimes she wishes that she never had a sister!!Both girls go to a Winter Carnival, and everything goes wrong.Elizabeth thinks that Jessica was flurting with her boyfriend, but it wasn't true.So she gets so mad that she leaves home. She takes the first bus to Sweet Valley. She gets home so tired that she takes a nap. She starts to dream that Jessica finds out that she was mad at her , so she goes looking for her.On the way a car slams right into her and she gets sent to the hospital. Elizabeth finds out about this and goes rushing to the hospital. Sadly it was too late, and Jessica dies. Elizabeth couldn't believe was she had thought, and said to her sister before. She gets extremely sad. But then she wakes up, and is so relieved because it was only a dream. She goes down stairs and starts hugging Jessica, and telling her that she's sorry for everything.
Winter Carnival, is such a great book. I love it because I can really relate it to myself. Mostly because of the things that happened in the book.Although it was a really fun and easy book to read, it was also sort of annoying too. Like when Jessica acts so selfish to her sister. If I were Elizabeth I would totally slap her!! But the main reason why I like this book is because it has a message or theme: Be careful what you wish for! I reccomend this book to people that like reality books.

Not the Best...........2004-12-14

I love SVH, SVH Senior Year, and SVU, but this is probably one of those rough patches in the series. Sure, the begining is great (with the exception of how selfish Jess is being- if I were Liz, I'd totally slap her!), but the whold Jess dying thing is super annoying. I mean, c'mon, it would be far more dramatic if a mojor charater were going to die, not announced in the middle of a chapte rtowards the end. Still, the end, when they are actually AT the winter carnival ALMOST makes up for that. (P.S. THERE ARE MUCH BETTER SV SUPER EDITIONS OUT THERE! DON'T LET THIS ONE FOOL YOU!)

The lamest sweet valley book I've ever read.......2003-01-13

ok, why is it lame? first, Jess and Liz are not getting together well throughout the book when the story is supposed to be about the 'Winter Carnival'. The winter carnival was only mentioned at the start and at the end of the book! To top it off, there is a mistake in the book-the part where Todd and Jeff have first met there when at Elizabeth's Secret Diary Vol. 2 it was mentioned the 'first' time they've met is at Winston's party-a welcome back party for Todd when Todd moved back to Sweet valley from Vermont. It just doesn't make any sense.

The title -Winter Carnival- sounded magical,and the story did start off OK as well as the fact that the very last scene -the winter ball- was enchanting.But!It just all goes down hill when Jessica dies.

A MUST READ!.......1997-08-29

I loved this book. It has a spell curled around it to make you keep reading it. On a rainy day, you can stay curled up on a chair and read this book for the entire day. Again and again. I just love the idea of Elizabeth thinking Jessica's stolen her boyfriend again. Jeffrey, in my point of view, is a rather stuck up pig. Jessica's sisterly in that book. A definite best!!
