a little book about a small farm written with unusual poetry and love.......2007-08-31
I am a city person, and the closest I have been to a small farm is buying apples in the autumn at a roadside stand. I have no idea how I chose to buy this book and Jane's two other ones, but I did buy it and fell in love with it. The poetry is deep; she tells the story of her aging father who in his eighties tries to keep his beloved farm going, her brother who has stayed to help but is angry and sometimes dysfunctional, her mother, and her own return after many years. These are wound around and blended with tales of seasons of growth -- of apples, berries, all sorts of corn and the customers who show up decade after decade to buy what they loved last year. It is truly a spiritual book, and gives this city girl a sense of the enduring earth and its gifts and the people who are closest to it.

This is the best Astronomy text that I have ever seen. It is filled with colorful photos and diagrams, and delves into the more interesting aspects of astronomy. A must for any Astronomy teacher, student, or amateur astronomer. It's also included with a great CD that has planetarium software on it.

Concise reference book and quick introduction to moon gazing.......1998-07-18
The Moon Book explains the basics of the moon's orbit, why the phases progress as they do, eclipses, tides, tips and techniques for photographing the moon, and so forth, with lots of clear diagrams and pictures, including a lunar gazeteer. There are so many diagrams that the short 128 pages makes for a rather quick read. It is not a historical book, but rather a quick overview, tutorial, and reference. A few pages are devoted to historical moon watching and various cultural moon calendars. Someone looking for a detailed scientific text, an in-depth history, or a book about moon lore should look elsewhere.

I have been playing golf for a long time, but have had a psychological barrier about playing "too well". I knew that the mental / confidence part was as important as the physical/practice part of golf, but I really didn't have an approach to improve my mental game. Until I read this book.
Golf is a Game of Confidence is an easy read, setup as antecdotes of lessons learned over 18 chapters. I could really identify with many chapters, and the book really appealed to me. I would highly recommend the book to anyone seeking to improve their mental outlook and have more fun with the game.
Summarized setup: Smile, Have Fun, Analyze the situation, Visualize the shot, Do it, Accept the result, and Forget about it. (Repeat until the round is over) Using this approach, I have broken 80 in my last two rounds (78, 79). Previously, I usually shot in the 80's, but have only broken 80 twice in my life ! This book is the best golf investment that I've ever made. You can keep the latest $500 driver, I'll take this book - and I'm having more fun with the game too.

I just want to say that this book was very helpful in increasing my confidence in my all around game. We all have rounds where we hit the ball extremely well the front nine and blow up on the back or vice-versa. Though it doesn't really give instructions or tips, it's what you take from it that is so beneficial. I played a few days after reading just the first few chapters and what I took from it was to "stay in the present". Every time I found myself getting ahead with my score or dwelling on a poor execution, I would say to myself, "Just stay in the present" and I played one of my best rounds ever. I would very much recommend this book to anyone who has ever "blown-up" during a round.
Golf Is A Game Of Confidence.......2001-05-04
I started reading this book three days ago. Today I competed in a small golf tournament and won. I shaved a good five strokes off and had the funnest round iv played in a long time. This is a good book, it shows you the do's and don'ts in preparing for a shot, hole, or match. Read this book.

My first review of this order was a 1 due to a perceived lack of response by the seller. The problem was due to computer and technical difficulties and was not the fault of the seller. The seller's response after the computer problems were solved was steller! The book arrived in a timely fashion and I would have no concern with ordering again from this seller. Although the copyright is 1995 this visitor's guide has excellent itineraries that work well for current travelers particularly those travelling by private auto. I have used this book before and found it invaluable.

Everyone thinks Jessica switched names on her paper and her twin's. Jessica is suspended and almost expelled. She has to prove to everyone that she's not just a dumb blond, even though everyone, even Elizabeth and her boyfriend Ken think she really did cheat.

Slightly unrealistic, but stranger things have happened.........2001-01-05
Jessica acing tests? Is this the eighth wonder of the world? When I started reading this book and found out that Jessica had supposedly turned into a genius, I wasn't able to put it down without finding out how everything turned out. Especially since Elizabeth received such low marks, which appeared very suspicious. I was a little disappointed that you never find out exactly what happened- besides it just being a fluke.
I enjoyed this book too because of everyone else's attitudes and reactions. Ken doesn't believe Jessica when she tells him what her marks are, and he admits that his expectations of Jessica were much lower, which understandably upsets Jessica. Todd is so arrogant for most of the book because of the attention he's receiving from the basketball scouts that I thought he needed a good slap. However, I liked it when Elizabeth ditched and abandoned him at the beach. Elizabeth's trial for Jessica was neat to read about as well as adding some interest and common sense and showed how the twins' friendship stays true most of the time.
Though I found that there was less action in this book, it was also a nice relaxing break from some of the competition, trickery, and fast pace of some other books in the series. It's definitely not a classic, but for readers who are fans of SVH, you shouldn't be disappointed.
Jessica - the genius???.......1998-12-07
I think this book was good, exept that Jess just couldn't get SO good scores. And Elizabeth couldn't get so bad scores. Todd actig like a fool, Elizabeth should kick him out of her arms!!!
