If you liked or found this book useful, you might also like "The Healing Journey Through Retirement" by Phil Rich and Dorothy Sampson. It's a book about the transition from work to retirement, and talks about how to make retirement a meaningful and satisying experience. The book provides lots of good ideas and information and uses a journal writing format.

A useful thought-provoker.......1998-12-18

This book is well-organized, thought-provoking, with helpful exercises to get you thinking about how you'll spend not only the next 50 years, but your next year or two. I found it very useful in terms of evaluating my own choices and plans, AND it has helped me broach similar issues with my mother who is moving into retirement. I highly recommend this book to anyone over thirty. Start thinking about this stuff now!

A fantastic adventure in the XIX Century.......2000-06-22

Julio Verne muestra en este excelente libro su capacidad para la anticipación y su exactitud y rigor científico. Verne investigo cuidadosamente antes de emprender esta obra, y a pesar que la misma cuenta con algunos errores (por ejemplo, la tripulación parte a la Luna en una gigantesca bala de cañón, lo cual mataria instantáneamente a los tripulantes debido a la aceleración) pero en suma es una obra interesante y de agradable lectura, con pasajes divertidos y un gran desenlace. Verne también se adelanto a su tiempo y de alguna manera predijo algunos de los eventos que se harían realidad muchosaños mas tarde. Por ejemplo, Verne pronosticó que su nave espacial sería lanzada desde la Florida (USA) cuando en realidad el vuelo del Apollo 11 salio de este mismo estado (Verne predijo Tampa, y en realidad salió desde en Centro Espacial Kennedy en Merritt Island). Además el predijo tres astronautas, dos norte-americanos y uno europeo (en la realidad hubo 3 norteamericanos, pero Collins nació en Italia, o sea que acertó!) el hecho que la capsula descendiera en el agua etc,etc. Estos y muchas otras coincidencias nos muestran la increible visión de este hombre, que junto con 20,000 Leguas de Viaje Submarino o La Vuelta al Mundo en 80 Dias,o Dueño del Mundo se adelanta a su tiempo y es fiel reflejo de una época de invenciones y esperanza en la inventiva humana.Para finalizar lo recomiendo ampliamente a los amantes de los viajes espaciales, no olviden que Konstantin Tsiolkovski y otros pioneros se inspiraron en los libros de Verne para definir el futuro del espacio.-

Father Ernesto Cardenal in fact recalls RUgama's most brilliant line of poetry, said the most beautiful of all of Nicaragu's fluent and prolific poetry, his last words. When demanded by the violent Somozan NAtional Guard in January 1970 to surrender, he shouted, "Que se rinda tu madre." Needless to say, his failure to surrender brought about his early martyrdom for freedom.

This brilliant volume, a rare jewel rescued from the obscure profundities of this rich amazon, collects his poetry and stories, plus some biographical notes. Included is the obligatory ode to Che, incorporating the stirring words: Nuestra causa triunfara porque es la causa de la justicia porque es la causa del amor.

First published clandestinely under the US backed Somozan dictatorship by Ediciones Taller in Leon in 1978, later in HAvana Cuba by the great publishing house Casas de la Americas in 1983, it was finally published in its third and fourth editions by the newly liberated Editorial Nueva NIcaragua in 1983 and 1984. We are so fortunate to rediscover it now in amazon. Please, should another copy come available, do not hesitate for a second to snatch it from the fast moving amazon, lest it be lost forever, lest I buy another copy, one to read and one to enshrine.

Representative of the mighty, courageous and revolutionary literature written under the brutal and deadly Somozan dictatorship, the words which stirred a nation and a people to courage and to the hard struggle for freedom and self-determination.

How can environmental cooperation be used to bolster regional peace? A large body of research suggests that environmental degradation may catalyze violent conflict. Environmental cooperation, in contrast, has gone almost unexplored as a means of peacemaking, even though it opens several effective channels: enhancing trust, establishing habits of cooperation, lengthening the time horizons of decisionmakers, forging cooperative trans-societal linkages, and creating shared regional norms and identities.

This volume examines the case for environmental peacemaking by comparing progress, prospects, and problems related to environmental peacemaking initiatives in six regions--South Asia, Central Asia, the Baltic, Southern Africa, the Caucasus, and the U.S.-Mexico border. The regions vary dramatically in terms of scale, interdependencies, history, and kinds of insecurity. But each is marked by a highly fluid, changing security order, creating a potential for environmental cooperation to have a catalytic effect on peacemaking.

Among the volume's key findings are these: that substantial potential for environmental peacemaking exists in most regions; that significant tensions from narrower efforts to improve the strategic climate among mistrustful governments can impair broader trans-societal efforts to build environmental peace; and that the effects of environmental peacemaking initiatives are highly sensitive to the ways they are institutionalized.

A worthy but scattered effort.......2003-03-23

Using environmental issues as a means of catalyzing cooperation among adversaries is a plausible goal that deserves greater attention. This book is an initial attempt at this emerging field of inquiry. The authors are affiliated with one of the most well-recognized research programs in this field at the Woodrow Wilson Center.

However, the title is a bit deceptive since much of the discourse in the book is a reflexive continuation of the environmental security literature, rather than offering a fresh theoretical path towards an instrumental vision of environmental issues in conflict resolution. A major cause of this lapse is the choice of case studies that are presented. All except one (India and Pakistan) are low level conflict situations where cooperation is far easier to engage. Even in the chapter on South Asia, the authors do not address the question of why cooperation over the Indus has NOT led to a larger cooperative mood between India and Pakistan?

Much of the text presents historical material and some "thick description" of cases and a literature review rather than involved analysis or recommendations. To be fair to the authors, they admit that this is an embryonic work -- but perhaps they should have waited a couple of years and chosen better case studies before producing the volume. Some suggestions for closer analysis would be "peace parks" between Ecuador and Peru or more localized cases such as the alliance between "red-neck" fishermen and Native Americans over preservation of the wild rice plantations in Northern Wisconsin (two sides which were previously inveterate adversaries).

Nevertheless, the book offers a workable starting point for further research.

This is a very well written guide to Moab, UT. It has detailed instructions as well as GPS coordinates to all of the popular, and many not so popular trails. Excellent photography and super details to guide you through your adventure.

You will not go wrong purchasing this book if you like to spend any time in Moab. Again, Excellent Resource!

We have another book by this author and have worn the covers off. Great information, clear directions. I highly recommend purchasing his books.

Moab 4-Wheelin Bible!!.......2007-04-04

This book is a must have if you are going 4-wheelin in Moab. I ride atv's and this book worked great for me. I bought it the first time I went to Moab and loved it. I have been able to ride a lot of trails and have loved them all. The descriptions of the trails are accurate and informative and fun to read. It tells you which trails are good to take the family on, which trails are for rough riders only, and how long it will take to do the trails. I have used this book so much I had to have it bound so I could keep using it. We call this the Moab Bible. I paid $25.00 dollars for this and it was worth every penny.

If your going 4-wheelin in Moab this is the best investment you will make.

I have been going to Moab for the last three years and I take this book every time I go. The directions of the trails are right on on and its a easy book to read and describes the trails in detail. If your going to Moab to run the trails this book is a must have in my opinion

Let Charles A. Wells be your guide!.......2004-08-07

We just did a 3 week loop through Arizona, Utah, and Colorado and used Charles A. Wells books for each of those states for planning and navigation. We were extremely happy with these books as guides as we would have had no idea of were to go wheeling with out them.
Very well written and detailed trail descriptions. The maps and overall layout of the books were very friendly and easy to use especially while on the trail. We tried to hit as many of the authors favorite trails as we could and were not disapointed! We also noticed that the volumes were recognized and apparently respected by local tour guides that we met along the trails - a good sign. Some of the volumes included GPS coordinates which were a helpful reference. A mapping GPS makes a good companion to all of these books as you can match your GPS generated progress to any of the books fine maps.

The only down side as another reviewer pointed out, is that the binding of one or two of the books did give up but only because of its high use/abuse on our 3 week trip - don't let that stop you from buying though. (I'm going to move the pages to a binder)
