Customer Reviews:
If your family is different, this book is for you........2000-09-04
Many of the non-traditional families in our society feel left out then it comes to money books. Most of us aren't in the 10% or so of families with a father working and a mother at home. This book gives tax info and other good advice for this kind of family--the one with two earners, blended families, even same sex families.
I liked the charts which summarized the info for each family type, with specific details on what to do.

Book Description
The hard part of implementing a lean transformation, according to most experts, is dealing with the "soft" issues, such as culture change. Getting employees to live and breathe lean -- actively supporting and buying into lean concepts and philosophy, always searching for ways to eliminate waste, and continuously improving processes and providing greater value for customers -- is the real challenge when building and sustaining a lean culture.
Lean Culture: Collected Practices and Cases provides a variety of case studies taken from articles previously published in Lean Manufacturer Advisor: the monthly newsletter by Productivity Press. All focus on cultural issues, ranging from the role of top management, to training and development of workers and managers, to building buy-in and to sustaining the culture.
Highlights include:
Practical, in-depth descriptions of cultural issues in a lean transformation, written in a conversational, easy-to-read style. Many case studies unavailable from any other single source. Articles categorized by specific area - all desired information is easily located. Real-world information about culture change collected in one handy book.

Like its teammates in the Dummies series, Hockey for Dummies is cleverly organized and clearly focused, geared to both fans and players. It is filled with fun stuff such as lists of the 10 best things about the game, the 10 best players, the 10 best teams, and, given even a novice's inability to mistake hockey for Zen, the 10 best hitters. Hockey for Dummies also contains plenty of good, practical advice: Wayne Gretzky offers a clinic on passing, Mark Messier hosts one on face-offs, Brian Leetch counsels players in clinics on defense, and Ron Hextall teaches goaltending. Authors John Davidson and John Steinbreder explain rules, discuss equipment, and detail strategies. They even give pointers on how best to appreciate the game on television. It seems the only thing missing from Hockey for Dummies is a dental referral for the first time one of your incisors gets in the way of an errant puck.

New Hockey Mom.......2007-02-12
I ordered this book for a good general overview as my son has chosen to play hockey when no one else in our family has ever played before. I found it to be a great source of information for a beginner family. Highly recommend this book.
Hockey for Dummies.......2005-11-10
Very informative book. A must for new fans and old ones alike. Broken down into understandable terminology.
Hockey? Not for me, thank you........2004-05-11
I got this book as a gift. Boy, this person doesn't know me very well. I don't like hockey. And this book doesn't help matters. Not at all. Its boring, and there are no interesting characters or plotlines. These guys that wrote this book clearly tried hard to write an informative book. I guess I recommend it for people who are interested in hockey.
a good book for beginers and old fans alike.......2003-11-01
this book was suprisingly very good. I really liked that it had a work out to follow and tips on playing from the pros to get you started playing hockey. It is also imformative for new hockey fans and fans like myself who have loved the game for some years now
No Longer a Dummy!.......2003-10-11
Hockey For Dummies was incredibly helpful when my son began playing the sport and we ended up getting so hooked that we started attending collegiate as well as professional hockey games. Nothing like a bunch of new hockey moms inquiring, "what is icing?" to which another replies, "it's something you put on a cake."
The book's format was very easy to follow, so no matter what you want to learn (penalties, history, etc.) you will be able to get a no-nonsense answer to your inquiry. Understanding something about the sport makes it much more enjoyable to watch. I was particularly impressed with the guidelines for watching the games in person versus the televised ones.

Great Practical Tips.......2003-09-06
This book is a great overview of Anchorage. It has good tips especially on entertainment and restaurants. I have been to Anchorage a lot, and this is my favorite overall book for practical advice...it is always in my bag when I go to Alaska. Others have said that it is getting out of date, which might be true in certain instances, but I personally haven't found any problems with currency.
For the money and practicality I love this book. It's small, generally accurate and inexpensive.
Good but starting to get out-of-date.......2003-02-06
We used this book for a trip we took in January of 2003 and found that a few of the items are starting to get out of date. i.e. one of the museums listed in the book no longer exists and resturant names have changed. The book is copyrighted in 2000 so it's time for a new edition.
I liked the format and the info it gave, just beware and double check the listings.
very entertaining and helpful.......2001-07-21
I read this book before my trip to Anchorage and was not disappointed with the advice. My friends and I found the info to be concise and accurate. The Arctic Roadrunner, a recommended restaurant, was every bit as good as the book says.
I would recommend this to anyone considering visiting or moving to the lovely city of Anchorage.
News from the author.......2000-04-27
I just found out that "City Smart Anchorage" has won a bronze medal in the 16th annual Lowell Thomas Travel Journalism Competition, a national contest sponsored by the Society of American Travel Writers Foundation. Among the judges' comments: "An especially common-sense book that is well organized, concisely written and with much useful information...Contains a lot of "dos and don'ts" and local terms and trivia that will help a visitor quickly feel at home."
Bought it, Readt it, Used it, Will buy other City Smarts.......1999-03-24
Readable, fun, on the mark with inside, local info. Enjoyed the restraunts, pubs and suggested tours. After reading the book I, a city boy, knew exactly what to do when I met a moose in town. Clear maps and details. Thoughtful and funny personal insights by author

guidebook SUPREME !.......2001-11-12
I was planning a cruise to Alaska. I chose "Fodor's 2001 Alaska" as a guidebook and was so impressed, I purchased two more of them for my cruise travelmates. This book went with me wherever I traveled in the "land of the midnight sun". Not only did Fodor's guidebook describe the cruise ships to the inth, but all of the activities, etc. Every bit of the text was accurate to my experiences. This was my first cruise, and my first trip to Alaska. I found this book to be indispensible! The data on Alaska, the facts, the figures, the special places to see, things to do, walks, hikes, eats, animals, and people...all here in crisp detail for you to enjoy. Upon my return to the "lower 48", I even narrated my Alaska photo albums with information I retrieved from this book. History, indiginous peoples, it's all here. Do get this book if you are thinking of going to Alaska, or returning to Alaska. All text is up to date, with maps, etc. Excellent resource! From the Inside Passage to Denali National Park I traveled, and I learned much more about this great land we call Alaska because of Fodor's book. I am now planning on going back to this beautiful place in great part due to reading this guidebook.
Exploring Alaska on a budget, get this book........2001-09-13
This book contains a great list of places to stay and eat with prices. Some of my favorite sections of book include the following: Listing of Best Unspoiled Small Towns, which include Kodiak, Petersburg, and Cordova; Listing of Strange Comunity Events which include Cordova's Ice Worm Festival, Fairbanks' Midnight Sun Baseball Game nad Nomes Polar Bear Swim/Bathtub Race. If you are going to Alaska's number 1 destination, Denali National Park, make sure you pick up a copy of Discovering Denali.

Deedie Wooster.......2004-09-30
Deedie Wooster, a worrier, a dilly dally, friendly when you get to know her. Sound like you? Well she is, she is a typical teenager. Deedie is fourteen years old and going through the painful times of high school.
"... and I knew Joey would never call me Piano Legs again in gym class, therefore I was quite surprised when he did on Monday... Piano Legs? Come on, stop worrying. Do you really have Piano Legs? A cowlick yes but not Piano Legs..." Boys, School, and Friends. Those are just some of the many worries going through Deedie Woosters head.
Deedie deals with her mixed up emotions by writing about what has happened so far in her life. Realizing who she really is and facing her future. In fact, she finds there really is something to worry about. Only she, can set things right. How can Deedie find out what is wrong?
"Don't look for any plot in my book because there isn't any. I would of liked to have a big climax in the last chapter but so far I haven't thought of one. Like I don't end up a big rock star or movie star or television personality. I did pretend to be related to Kristy McNichol once and I got in a little trouble over it but I don't make up stories like that anymore. Now that I know where I am, so to speak, I don't lose myself quite so often." Readers can identify with Deedie's outgoing personality and opinions about herself, friends, teachers, and problems in growing up.
WHERE HAS DEEDIE WOOSTER BEEN ALL THESE YEARS?.......2004-07-04
This book is an excellent read! If you're wondering about what the high school experience is all about, then this is the book for you! It isn't in print any more, so if you find one in a discount thrift store, hold on to that tasty gem!!!
