The authors follow the Personal Competency Model currently in favour and anticipate future developments within the model. The behaviours, or competencies, which underpin effective performance in modern management are addressed and those behaviours associated with the Personal Competency Model are explored and developed.

This third edition of Personal Effectiveness incorporates new self-assessment templates to enable the manager to identify personal strengths and weaknesses in each element of the relevant competency within the model, as appropriate to each chapter. The checklist of associated behaviours, the full Personal Competency Model and the various units of competence (performance) underpinned by the competencies (behaviour and skills) can now be found in the three associated appendices. A number of additional concepts and models, as well as some new scenarios, have been introduced throughout the text and the links to the Institute"s Module (where relevant) have now been identified at the beginning of the chapters.

The Design, Performance, and Analysis of Slug Tests is a text which walks the reader through all the necessary steps for obtaining information about the transmissive nature of formations through slug testing. Butler gives not only a theoretical understanding of the slug test in this book, but he also gives many caveats and pitfalls which may be encountered when using the method. Butler explains to the reader which field methods and analysis methods are best suited for various situations. He also gives special reccomendations for formations of high and low hydraulic conductivity. This book is not meant to be read from cover to cover, but is an excellent reference for the field hydrogeologist. The topic is limited in scope - a fact which allows the coverage of the material to be superb.

Super Book.......2005-06-16

I really enjoyed this book quite a bit. My boy finished football season a while ago and I decided to get more involved for this upcoming season by coaching. The details and strageties were solid and very applicable. For someone like me that had an athletic backgroud but no coaching experience, I found the information quite useful.

I would call this a "cookbook" for new coaches. Something anyone can follow.

I would recommend this.

Great book to get started!.......2003-12-23

I just finished my first year of coaching high school football and I wanted to read as much as I could before next season started. I found the bible. This book has everything you need if you want to be a coach at any level. Personally it was a great starting point to building my own philosophy on coaching and really made me look at all that goes into being called "coach". I recommend this book to anyone, whether it's your first or thirtieth year on the job, that wants to hear from the greats about the game. A fantastic read!

Nicely organized book for any soccer coach or aspiring coach. This covers ground that some books tend to miss. We've used this in our youth clinics and drill instruction. I enjoyed it and recommend it to anyone that will be putting time into the development of athletes and/or teams.
We've move onto Football in that season as many people do but there are drills that translate into other sports. This includes Basketball and Baseball as the top-3. Again this is highly recommended and can help with strategy and scoring. Very appropriate.

This book is for every soccer coach out there, at any level. It has fantastic contributions from the likes of Anson Dorrance and Steve Sampson. I am a UEFA A licensed coach, and this book was well worth me reading!

Great Collection for Coaches.......2004-07-29

This is a great collection of articles from experienced coaches and trainers - many of them well-known names. Coaches at any level will benefit from the insights offered. Topics cover a wide range from the philosophical (coaching principles and objectives) through adminstrative (club, team adn league management) and nuts and bolts (training for specific outcomes, developing training activities, fitness).

The book finishes with chapters on player motivation and management as well as a look at coaching opportunites.

Overall, it covers as wide a field as you can expect from any one book. On the negative side, those looking for extensive training outlines and menus of training activities will need to supplement this volume with more specific coaching books.

Keep looking.......2004-06-15

This book is fair. It's great for a coach moving up to club levels. Where they need to know team management motivation, etc. But if your looking for rules, tactics, techniques: It's lacking.

Weary Feet, Rested Souls: A Guided History of the Civil Rights Movement An invaluable resource for anyone planning a trip to see sites relating to the Civil Rights Movement. However the trip planner should double check addresses with reliable local sources as I discovered a few frustrating errors on a trip through Alabama. I found that many locals don't have a clue about the history in their cities.

A great tour book for a road trip!.......2002-05-18

This is a fabulous book to guide you on a "civil rights history tour." If you don't believe me, stop by my web site, Bluejeans' Place, to see all the places I visited by following along in the book. There is even one picture that shows this book in it! I could not have documented all the civil rights sites off the beaten path as I did with this book.

The directions given generally get you right to the door or site you are looking for, even if that site has disappeared over the years and only rubble or an empty lot remains.

There is a lot of detailed information in the book that doesn't seem important until you pull up in front of whereever they are talking about. For example, when you swing around the corner to the location of the funeral home where Emmett Till's body was taken too, you could actually see the same clock above the garage that was shown in a 35 year old picture. In another place, the book pointed out the Neshoba County murder victims worked in an upstairs office on a certain corner in Meridian and the sign shown in the picture is on display in a state museum in Jackson. If you visited both locations, those details were right there plain as day in front of you! This is better than one of the old Fodor's tour books!

Any fan of Amistad should read this book.......1997-12-15

I say that because, at the end of Amistad, John Quincy Adams says something about how the Civil War would be the last battle of the American Revolution. But in fact, you could make the case that the civil rights movement was the conclusion of the Revolution. And this book really beautifully takes you back to the places and people of the Movement. It's still possible to visit many of the places, and many of the participants are still alive. But you don't hear as much about these people and places as you might expect, and this book captures them before they are lost to history. It would be a great book to buy to take the children on a tour of the civil rights movement.

Unlikely Love.......2007-06-29

Bo is a high school student, a nobody, really, with a huge crush. The object of her crush is Kyle, a handsome student who used to be a star quarterback on the football team. Kyle has always been in low level classes and football was what he counted on to carry him to college. Then he hurt his knee. It needed surgery, and he will never play football again.

Suddenly Kyle's life is adrift. He begins to realize that he counted on football too much, that he thinks the kids in his classes are losers, and that he doesn't have much in common with his former teammates anymore. Even worse, he seems to be losing touch with his obnoxious perfectionist girlfriend, Chloe.

Bo thinks that there might be a chance for something between her and Kyle, especially since she's begun losing weight and is trying to be more outgoing. And even better, Kyle is in the play that Bo stage-manages. But will Kyle ever see her as more than the girl who babysits his little brother?

I liked how the narration went back and forth from Kyle to Bo, to show how each thought about each other and the situation they were in. I also liked how Bo took control over her own life and was able to change things to make herself happier.

The characters, though, could have been better developed. They were pretty cardboard.

This book shows high-school students trying to find who they really are. "A good actor becomes the character he's playing."
A high-school boy named Kyle Winthrop injured his knee and can no longer play football and be with his "team". He decides to audition for the school play , against the advice of his girlfriend, Chloe, whom herself is a ver good actress. Bo is the stage manager for this play and sees Kyle as a major hunk ad she has a crush on him. Chloe and Kyle seem to be growing closer to each other. As Bo spends more time with Kyle, she wants to work on her self-image, losing weight and becoming more assertive. "And if you hate your name, change it.: This concludes, if you don't like who you're becomimg to grow as a person, you can always change yourself to who you want to be.

John Hughes for the '90s.......2003-04-17

Like the famous godfather of teen movies, John Hughes, Todd Strasser has captured what it's like to be a teenager in the 1990s (opposed to the '80s) with problems surrounded by the cliquey teen caste system. In this book, Todd Strasser introduces his first of the Time Zone High trilogy (opposed to John Hughes's Shermer High quartet), with the chubby and drama queen, Bolita "Bo" Vine and the handsome and injured Kyle Winthrop. Bo and Kyle are from opposite ends of the social pool. Bo is a smart, calm misfit who most likely be with the rebels and weirdos, while Kyle is a brave, hunky jock, who's knee is injured, and who is most likely invited to all the good parties by the rich and popualr students.

The action starts there.

The fall play is starting and Bo is, as usual, the stage manager, although she'd rather be center stage. Pretty shadowed, she hides with her Gothy bud and her artist-cute friend on the catwalk in the auditorium. Bo is tired of being the way she is--when she finds out Kyle is what she wants. Kyle is tired of sitting out, watching the games and being his pretty, smart and popular girlfriend, Chloe Frost's little puppet, not doing what he wants. So he does something rebellous--he signs up for the school play.

Bo and Kyle clash a lot while she babysits his half-brother, and they both go swimming--she to work out, him to get away and exercise his legs. When Bo changes her entire look from a drab, sulky look to a pretty, gorgeous look, she tries to win Kyle over, but it's not that easy. Kyle still has major feelings for Chloe, even if she is a real ... and she's always being the lead in the plays. Bo is lovestruck.

This book is a typical, but comedic, story about high school love from different social stratesphere. It cycles the life of two teens, who are different but have the same problems. It's a cross between Pretty in Pink and Sixteen Candles--but the outcome is not going to be so fair. Read this. It's amazing. It's like the John Hughes movies-turned-books.

...In my opinion, this book really could boast a teen's self esteem a lot, since it is about realistic lives of 2 teens during high school. I also believe that this could help people to know how do deal with many situations by reading how the students in this book dealt with their problems. I agree that this book has a lot of foul language and there are some mature types of situations between the students, so I don't think that many young children would read this book. But this book has many exciting things that happen, that will make u want to continue reading. Since this book shows two points of views of two different people that are different sexes, it will be an interesting, and unusual type of book to read. I think that this is a good book to recommend to people too!
