this book has everything you need to know about installing and maintaing interior plantscapes and if you are interested in such things i reccomend this book.

good book for begginner or above.......2005-11-15

I got this book to learn about caring for indoor plants for a new business it is very insightful and helpful. I do mostly pest control in buildings and often am asked about the plants and problems they may have this book is a good help in answering questions and learning about the different plants and how to manage them. Maybe for experinced people this maybe basic info but is helpful. My wife really liked it with help for plants in the house.

Houseplant Book.......2000-08-27

When I recieved this book I was so disappointed I returned it within 2 days. As a horticulturist, I am constantly seeking out new reference books. I had hoped for more information on indoor plantings, the focus was on potted plants rather than installation of indoor planters and gardens. This was a skinny little overpriced houseplant book. The author did discuss soils and lighting, however most basic horticulture text books with a much lower price tag can offer far more information. This is certainly too elementary for the professional and the hobbiest is better off with "The Houseplant Expert"

This book begins with a very readable survey "The Sun Today" by J.-C. Pecker. It is followed by thorough reviews from leading experts covering theory and observations. The focus shifts from the solar core, studied via neutrino emissions and helioseismology, through the interface regions where it is believed the large-scale magnetic fields are generated, to the corona, where most of the high temperature phenomena characteristic of this region may be studied directly. As energetic particles play such a vigorous role in this part of the sun, a separate session was devoted to their transport and storage in the corona.

With much enthusiasm, Euell relates stories of his seaside foraging. No prejudices color his opinion of what is edible. Cockles, Pen Shells, Coquina Clams... nothing escapes Gibbons' palate. Often, his "insider" information is priceless, e.g. how to remove a stone crab from its burrow without getting nipped; how to procure a harvest of the elusive but sweet Eastern Razor Clam; what to look for in Gulls' behavior to find surf clams...

One drawback: details are sometimes sparse as to how to find some of the clams discussed. I have yet to find a single living cockle or razor clam, despite having read those chapters repeatedly, over several years. I suspect it was intentional on Euell's part; to keep his foraging disciples from taking too much from the sea, he obfuscated somewhat. Regardless, this book thoroughly deserves attention.

For those that want to further the joy of cooking..........2000-02-29

Great author, great writing and great recipes.. This book is sure to be an adventure in cooking and an adventure on the border of the sea.

Bottom-line...if you're out of shape and always dreamed of running, but could never figure out how to begin, then this is the book for you. John is kind, gentle, honest, and he gives all the right information to feed your motivation, no matter how far back in your mind and heart it may be.

I am planning on running (swimming, and bikeing) my first Triathlon this spring. I've read many books as I prepare. This book has been great with motivation to keep going. The walk/run approach is really great. I know it isn't new, but it helps to keep reading it in more than one place. Most of the books I have read agree with this author, however this author has been easier to read. Along with all the helpful instructions there is a humor that I have enjoyed.

No Need for Speed got me running!.......2006-11-10

I love this book. I find it inspiring, helpful and I can really relate to the personal stories of perserverance against all potato chips, TV programs and 43 years of slothfulness....It gave me the courage to keep going as younger, fitter, faster runners sprint by me. And I can now be content just to run, even though I may never break a 10min mile....it's the process not the goal that matters.

Essential reading for the beginning (or returning) runner.......2006-11-09

I've recently started back to running and needed something to read to help motivate me. I'd already read Dean Karnazes' book and was looking for something that would talk not just about the practical aspects of beginning to run, but more about the life change that is necessary to successfully make running a part of your life. This book talks about that, and focuses on it, and encourages the reader. We limit ourselves by our self perceptions, and this book will help you break through a few of those. Recommended.

BEST RUNNING MOTIVATOR.......2006-07-05

Of all the running books out there, from by-the-numbers training plans to dense physiology tomes, none provide the uplift and motivation needed by average "non-athletic" mortals better than the two written by John Bingham. In his newest, Bingham, long associated with his "Penguin" philosophy through Runner's World Magazine, inspires with his personal story. Only this isn't an Olympic athlete's heroic quest, but an average, vice-ridden everyman's transformation from overweight couch potato to athlete. In a conversational, non-preachy tone, Bingham writes for the majority of runners and fitness walkers-- the back two-thirds of every road race.
No Need for Speed contains much useful and up-to-date advice for beginning and intermediate runners and walkers, of course, including equipment, training and technique. Frequent sidebar entries from real citizen-runners also share lessons learned by average joes and janes while morphing into athletes. But by far the BEST thing about this book, and the most encouraging to newer, older, heavier, and/or slower runners, is that Bingham manages to legitimately drape honor and glory to "back of the pack" athletes. You don't have to be lightning-fast or whippet-thin to call yourself a runner. To anyone stuggling to get in shape, survive a road race (or finish it in less than a day), and feel good about being in the game, Bingham's words are priceless.
