Although Roos and Edvinson are well known in the field, this book provides only the most superficial treatment of what is anyhow a "light" topic. Many of the examples cited verge on the specious - at the level of "invest in R&D - 3M made a fortune so could you". The treatment of linkage between strategy and intellectual capital measures is also very weak. Beyond asserting that you need one, they don't really provide much else to guide you here.

Other better books exist both on Intellectual Capital itself, and the management of intangibles more generally.

For anyone trying to get a solid grasp of, and appreciation for, the idea of intellectual capital, this book is a winner. Moreover, the authors present an intellectual capital system that gives more insight into the intangible wealth that is the ultimate fount of future organizational innovation and growth. A very disappointing volume - especially at the price. This non-technical book is little more than an uneven annotated bibliography. Most of the references and, more importantly, the explanations offered, are little more than rehashed summary descriptions of model descriptions found on the net. The coverage is extremely uneven, apparently governed by availability of information on the web. While emphasizing watershed management with frequent superficial reference to GIS, the book provides no meaningful treatment of developments in distributed parameter hydrologic modeling, the USGS National Hydrography dataset, or ESRI's own GIS-based hydrologic modeling tutorial and scripts. The book has several chapters that are 5 or fewer pages in length, with distracting typos and mangled syntax. My impression is the book started as a fairly generic outline or brief notes from a talk, that were unevenly fleshed out by browsing the web. Self-described as an introduction to spatially explicit simulation modeling for watershed managers and students, the volume is utterly mis-targeted. Generic simplistic figures accompany trite descriptions of data structures that are too esoteric for a student or watersehd manager and too simplistic for a programmer. While there are many useful links collected in one place, this volume is best viewed as an interesting collection of bookmarks for someone web surfing the search phrase "watershed modeling"

Natural Wonders Of The Jersey Pines And Shores by the late educator, journalist, historian, and sportsman Robert A. Peterson (1956-2003) covers a diversity of topics drawn from the unique Pine Barrens and coastal ecosystems of New Jersey including the flora, fauna, geological formations, and natural forces of the area. Much of the material was adapted from his regular newspaper column in "The Egg Harbor News". The informed and informative text is wonderfully enhanced with the nature photography of Michael A. Hogan and Steve Greer. This posthumous publication of Robert Peterson's Natural Wonders Of The Jersey Pines And Shores is a welcome contribution by a gifted writer whose "insatiable curiosity about nature and history" make the New Jersey Pine Barrens and beaches a truly engaging read from beginning to end for the non-specialist general reader as well as the student of nature's ecosystems, as well as a welcome contribution to American Ecological Studies and Environmental Studies library reference collections and supplemental reading lists.

Natural Wonders of the Jersey Pines and Shore.......2005-06-30

As a frequent visitor to Southern New Jersey, I am always amazed and delighted by the wonderful scenery and history that can be enjoyed there. Reading "Natural Wonders of the Jersey Pines and Shore" has enhanced those perceptions and has added so much more to my depth of understanding about the area. Robert Peterson does a fantastic job both educating and entertaining the reader with all sorts of insights and stories which capture one's imagination. Beyond the text, however, some of the best parts of the book are the amazing photographs mainly taken by Michael Hogan (with some additonal photographs by Steve Greer.) Michael has done an outstanding job of photographing the varied topics in unique ways which allow the reader to enjoy each adventure with him, bringing the area to life even if you have never visited it yourself. I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves nature, photography or New Jersey!

This is a book not to be missed!!!.......2005-05-26

What you won't see from the Newark Airport .......2005-05-23

Bob made me homesick for crabbing in Motts Creek, walking through the fall colors of Batsto and summer night drives from Egg Harbor City to Sweetwater.

I may not agree with Mr. Petersons' idealistic views of our founding fathers I do agree there is more to living in New Jersey then the view from Newark airport has to offer and think he did a incredible job in expressing his passion for his home state.

I would highly recommend this beautiful book to anyone who grew up in Southern New Jersey. If you have moved out of state as I have and people tell you how they "were in Jersey once" and preceed to tell you what a cesspool they thought it was because they landed in Newark you can whip out this book and say "Yo, This is where I GREW UP." It probably will not stop all the Soprano jokes or imitations of what they think people from Jersey sound like when they speak, but it will show them how beautiful South Jersey is in words as well as pictures.

outstanding book for basic quick self defense.

Essential Basics.......2007-03-10

In a real-life defense situation, knowing a few basic techniques really well will prove much more valuable than knowing vast amounts of techniques marginally well. In other words...keep it simple stupid (KISS) philosophy. For example...no high kicks, thus eliminating the possibility of being knocked over/off balance. No fist punching (in boxing, even with gloves on, the majority of injuries are to the puncher's own fist.) For people who do not train in specialized manners to break down and toughen hand bones, its not practical to punch using boxing type punches to the head in a street fight....fingers break very very easily. Another common theme in this book is the concept of holding while hitting. The average person without much specialized training, will have trouble generating serious power from the ground (as highly trained boxers do by pushing off on their feet.) Also, many people will not put sufficient snap/recoil in their punches...which makes the power of you punch dissapate into something of a push, as your attacker rolls with ths punch. However, by holding and hitting, it is quite easy to double the power of a blow, even by somone with marginal experience. Any advanced martial artist can probably find some flaws with these techniques...(for example, straightening your arm while trying to push someone off you can result in an arm breaking armbar), however, for 99% of people in real life situations, these basic, nearly common sense techniques would put them at a serious advantage...and someone truly fluent in them, who has trained perhaps 30 min a day for a couple years on just these 12 moves, they'd probably outfight a very high percentage of physically equal black belt opponents. In summation. KISS.

How to get yourself hurt.......2007-02-05

This book is a guide to getting yourself hurt. Some things make sense, but if attcked by a drugged and/or strong attacker, these techniques will not do any good. There are much better books out there for your security.

review of "dirty dozen" self defense .......2006-11-04

I would say the book is helpfull on the getting back to basics of self-defense.
It does not contain rocket science, but is very realistic,in My opinion.
It is basically a "hit-hard" and get away type of system,it is not about the sparring type of "martial arts".
I think even the experianced fighter will find something helpfull in this book.

I got this book several months ago and it could have saved me many years of looking for self-defense instruction that was worth anything. It is very simple, and in a real adrenaline situation, that is all you will have time for. Don't waste years learning 100's of throws and wrist-locks...they WILL GET YOU KILLED in today's world. There is a reason dogs and tigers go for the throat....

In this book Jessica is furious that Jeremy is days away from marrying Sue. Jessica tries every trick up her sleeve to stop the wedding and Jeremy finally decides to tell Sue the truth, that he has no feelings for her, and he wants to cancel the wedding.
Everything goes to plan until Sue gets bad news that she has the same rare blood disease that killed her mother. Sue tells Jeremy that she only has three years left to live. Jeremy is so upset by the news, that he feels that he has to marry Sue.
When Jessica hears the news, she decides that she must find a way to stop the wedding, bad news or no bad news, Jessica wants Jeremy all to herself.

The best book that I have read all year has to be Left at the Altar by Kate William .One of the reasons is because the book is like a mystery but then it turns into romance then back to a mystery. The next thing is the details of the story turns out the way you don't want it to! It's like somebody's going to kill somebody but that person kills them self instead. The final reason I like this book is the description of the story they explain everything of every detail so you would understand it better. Let me give you a brief summary of the book. The main characters are Elizabeth, Jessica, Sue, and Jeremy. Elizabeth and Jessica are the two twin sisters, and Jeremy and sue are the couple that supposed to get married. Until one day Elizabeth catches Jessica and Jeremy kissing. But poor sue doesn't know a thing. Then one day any old regular day Sue got a tragic letter saying that she has cancer. But Jessica gets stubborn and won't let Jeremy get married. So Jeremy has only one choice, should he or should he no?. I think that every body should read this good but tragic mystery.
