I bought this book for my brother who owned a Crosley years ago, but I read it before I gave it to him. Great book! One of the best I have read in a long time.
It was a great history lesson and you do not have to be a Crosley buff to enjoy it.

Industrial pioneers.......2007-07-23
I'm sitting in a home full of computers, MP3 players, dvd recorders and players, a satellite TV box, and scores of electric appliances that are smarter than I am. Reading of a time when consumer electronics were unknown, and the primary electric appliance was a lightbulb, is like looking into the dark ages. Well, not quite. But you know what I mean.
The Crosley name is one that I've heard around my home throughout my life, but with the exception of a Crosley radio on a shelf, my knowledge of the company or the men that founded the firm was fuzzy at best. The authors have done an outstanding job at fleshing out Powel and Lewis Crosley and the world they lived in and revolutionized.
Many a novel I've read non-stop, but this is the first biography that I've done an "all-nighter" with.
The authors had no axe to grind, the times were well fleshed out, and one's faith in the ability of someone to think it up and do it, is reaffirmed. It was chock full of interesting information and facts, and I found myself checking Google satellite maps for locations mentioned in the book (Yes, the Arlington St. location still exisits and the satellite pic catches the executive tower, one-time home of WLW).
There is some bumpy writing, as noted in a few other reviews. I blame not the authors, but the editor. The boys really like their cliches. Lawyers are always "Sharpening their pencils," people come and go "Exit Stage right/left, Enter stage right/left;" and so many variations of "Masses not the classes" permeated the text, I wondered if they had some sort of Bolshevik thing going on.
That aside, this guy will be giving several copies of this book for Christmas this year - and I can't think of a better testimonial to the book.

This was one of the most intersting biog. I have read in a long time. It is hard to believe the brothers could jam that much into just one lifetime and then it was all gone. I heartly recommend this book if you have an interest in one of our most exciting periods.

The overlying theme to this series is the importance of exposure potential when defining human health risk. The fate and transport of a chemical or mixture defines the exposure route, and in conjunction with receptor properties, concentrations at receptors. If fate and transport is not considered, unrealistic human health risks could be calculated, resulting in misinformed decisions about site clean-up and regulatory guidance. We hope you find these documents useful in your efforts to evaluate and determine acceptable risk-based criteria at petroleum sites. To complete the risk-based approach, the Working Group has also selected toxicity criteria (e.g., Reference Doses) for each of the defined fate and transport fractions. The evaluation of the toxicology research database and rationale behind the toxicity criteria selected is described in detail in Volume 4. The group selected the American Society for Testing and Materials' (ASTM) Risk Based Corrective Action (RBCA) framework as an example of how these elements can be used to calculate risk-based screening levels driven by non-cancer human health risk for petroleum contaminated sites.

Great book, also an easy read.......2006-02-18
In college I took a sports psychology class taught by a practicing Sports Psychologist who coached Many NFL & PGA Tour players. This was one of out main books we used and it is still in my library today. As a collegiate athlete (baseball), I was able to easily apply the concepts to my own game. I don't know if it helped my physical ability, but mentally I was much more confident and focused.

This book has many useful tools not just for athletes but also for individuals seeking something for their everyday lives.
Best section I thought was on setting goals, the wheel of excellence, maintaining positive perspectives and outlook, and how to deal with distraction control, quest for consistency, etc etc.
These are all very important concepts not just for the athlete in training but also for everyday people seeking a goal or purpose in life, maintaining that path to success, and knowing how to deal with every day bumps and grinds and highs and lows.
Book talks about:
Setting a goal
Make commitment to that goal
And Initiate Action to accomplish your goals
and don't let distractions, criticism, or other people distract you from your path.
Sounds simple? But for most of us we really have to work on it! Takes lotsa work and discipline to know what you want, work to towards getting it, and not stray from distractions or criticism.

Could Be Better.......2000-08-04
I am an amatuer athlete and constantly try to update my skills. I have read a number of Sports Psyc. Books and feel this book is a little weak. To much reliance on the same old stuff. Good stories, somewhat inspirational. The best book I've read to date is an Amazon recommendation titled, The Mental Edge. Excellent application of techniques that are the cutting edge.

The best guide for description of sights of Mexico.......2005-09-10
This is not the source for hotels and restaurants. However, no other guide does as well what Michelin sets out to do, explain the sights clearly using good color maps. The cities and sights are rated. Although one may disagree with individual ratings, they do give the reader a good idea of what sights are considered the most important.
Book Description
Jake, Peter and Moses are thrilled to spend their spring break helicopter skiing in the mountains. Jake, already a junior guide, is helping to train Peter. Moses, the helicopter pilot's son, is along for the fun. At the same time, Fiona, a snowboarding fanatic from England, is embarking on a snowboarding adventure on a nearby peak. Soon after takeoff, Fiona's helicopter crashes, killing the pilot and guide. The three boys -- themselves stranded due to unexpected weather conditions -- realize they must try to help her. Minutes after they rescue her, an avalanche rips the group apart and buries Jake. After rescuing Jake, the four recognize that they must save themselves. Thus begins their perilous ten-day descent. Faced with everything from finding shelter and surviving the cold, the group must use their skills to help each other survive. Do they have what it takes to make it out alive?

My Review of Peak Survival.......2004-11-15
This book was an average adventure book. Of course adventures are exciting, so it was a pretty good read that kept my attention. It wasn't boring to read, but it wasn't the most interesting or exciting story in the world the pictures the author painted in my mind were very detailed and gave a good view of what was going on.
The author did a good job of describing the events and making it feel as if you were there experiencing the same adventure as the characters in the story. The only trouble is that the way it was written made it very, very predictable. (I'm a little bias for this story because not only does it involve my favorite sport, snowboarding, but it also involves my favorite place in the world, Whistler, B.C.)
Not only does it hold attention, but also it is a valuable warning and caution sign to snowboarders and skiers about riding backcountry. It is a valuable lesson and is told in an interesting way. After reading this story, the reader will have more knowledge about backcountry and its dangers and they will know that it's nothing to take casually.
This book is a good read for anyone who skis or snowboards. If someone is looking for an easy read that will keep you amused, this is a great book for them. But, if someone is looking for a more difficult and sophisticated read, I would suggest finding a different book. In conclusion, I enjoyed the story as well as the lessons provided in the book.
How I hate this book.......2004-10-10
My Teacher read it to us in class. It sounds in exciting but I don't think it was the greatest. The author should make the story happen quicker and she should have less characters so they'res less to concentrate on. Also think that the author should have more then one problem then of them being stuck in a snow cave.
