Customer Reviews:
Excellent Basis for a Youth Program.......2006-03-23
This book was an excellent reference that I relied heavily upon to create a strength training program for our Pop Warner football team. Faigenbaum has published results of studies documenting the benefits of strength training for children. This book provides good description of exercises for each muscle group and provides variations using different equipment, .i.e. free weights- dumbbells and barbells, resistance bands and weight machines. One ommission in the book was that his published paper revealed a program that proved superior to others in controlled experiments in terms of results gained.
Program: 3 sets with set #1 being 50% of 10 rep maximum resistance (warm-up), followed by set # 2- 10 reps with 75% of 10 rep max (moderate), and set #3 - max number of reps with 10 rep max resistance.
Required for parents of active children.......2000-10-26
Even if you are an experienced athlete yourself, and former power lifter (like me), this book is great for the research it presents about children and weightlifting, and for the organization of the material. I found the medicine ball portion particularly helpful. Very good pictures.
Strength in a powerful book.......2000-10-18
Strength and Power for Young Athletes is a tremendous help to athletes with both high and low athletic standards and abilities. It is very easy to read and follow. It has appendixes for each sport and categories for each age group.Pictures and a key of what each machine works helps you understand each machine easier.Nutrition guides of carbs and protien is also a big help. This book is great for keeping you in shape.
Great Book!.......2000-07-01
As a former Olympic Athlete I appreciate the importance of keeping children healthy and strong. This book provides all the tools you need to develop safe and effective strength programs for boys and girls. It is an easy read and the photographs are outstanding. This book is a real WINNER!

Customer Reviews:
The perfect Malawi guide book........2002-01-05
This book rocks. After eight trips to Malawi I know never to go without it because I now know I can rely on it. The book is well organized, up-to-date, and gives accurate and practical advice. It's also tightly organized and so it's smaller and more easily portable than most but packed with good information. The publisher has anticipated what we need to know most and there are numerous subjects highlighted in boxed sections, easy to find--health tips, ferry schedules, driving rules, sample itineraries, special sites to visit in each region, etc. The opening section on history and culture is particularly good. Maps, throughout the book, are clear and useful. The photos are wonderful. The lodging and eating recommendations are excellent and, again, reliable. If you're going, get this one.
Lonely Planet Malawi.......2001-08-25
Having previously been to Malawi and with the intention of going back to see more of the country, I found this book very helpful. It gives a nice range of accomidations and travel methods and is very realistic about what to expect from each. More so helpful is the political and cultural history the book gives so that one knows what is and is not acceptable from a foreigner traveling within the country. This book indicates that Malawi is a great place to start an African adventure and additionally gives info about getting to the countries surrounding Malawi (i.e. Tanzania, Zambia and Mozambique) and what to expect from them.
Amazon.com
Lonely Planet is ready to ease your way through Malawi, Mozambique, and Zambia with this thorough first-edition guide. "The tourist brochures bill Malawi as 'the warm heart of Africa' and, for once, the hype is true; Malawi's scenery is stunning and wonderfully varied, and (although we hate to generalize) Malawians really do seem to be among the friendliest people you could meet anywhere" is how author David Else, who has traveled extensively all over Africa, introduces the book. This country offers the magnificent beauty and interesting wildlife found in Lake Malawi, wildlife parks, national parks, and forest reserves. Its compact size makes Malawi an excellent jumping-off point to venture into the less tourist-ready marvels of Mozambique and Zambia.
In addition to helping you find your way around and the best places to stay, this book will help you tell your red bishops from your sunbirds, your rollers from your hoopoes ... and that's only the bird section. Cultural and historical information ranges from the Stone Age to African kings, from Dr. Livingstone to President Banda. Shaded sidebars provide additional information on topics such as tea growing, on-line services, driving, Islam, economic swings, ecology, food taxes, and the effects of colonialism. A useful index gives an overview of the maps provided (36 of them) along with page numbers for easy reference.

Don't forget the new edition..........2001-01-13
"Lonely Planet: Southern Africa" is more complete (it covers the entire area from Zambia and Malawi to South Africa) and more recent (September 2000).
Zambia is in small type for a reason..........2000-09-03
I bought this book before I went for a four month stay in Zambia. I soon realized that 'Zambia' on the cover was in small type for a reason. The bulk of the book is on Malawi, and the author gives very little detail to the Zambia section. I was quite disappointed, as I was glad simply to FIND something with 'Zambia' written on it! There was useful information in the Zambia section, but the Kwacha amounts were far off the mark, due to high inflation rates. I found myself constantly having to flip back to the Malawi section of the book to see if relevant information could be found there.
This is a good book - I've found most Lonely Planet books to be excellent, though - but if you're looking for a great deal of information on Zambia itself, this is not the book for you.
The best thing so far...........2000-04-05
LP is second to none in practical travel advice. This guide makes no exception. We were the first to actually use the guide book even a little before the publication date. We used it in all three countries. The only thing I might critisize is that Malawians are really not *that* friendly (Zambians are), but opinions differ about this. Prices in $ would be better.
A Useful Guide.......1999-03-03
This book, to use a cliche, was my Bible while I was in Malawi. The information is good and generally accurate. Except for Lilongwe, I found the summaries on the cities to be a little too short. Also, since the kwatcha (Malawian currency) has recently been floated, the prices are all quite a bit off.

Guide and porters were great helper , food was nice , The trip was well organised. Mountsafaris are trusted , as i sent them 1500 us dollar deposite for my 3 weeks horiday , and everything work perfect .They booked the , hotel , organise everything for my trip , so when i come everything was ready .They picked me from the airport on time , direct to the hotel ,following the trip start.
Camping was fun , Mountsafaris staff were friendly , very safe with them both on the mountains and on safari . Their camps have all facility.
Mountsafaris prices are fair . Their prices are all incrusive , like , pick ups from the airport, park fees, transport by landcruser with open roof. tour driver ,food three meals a day ,cook .

Good introduction, but not enough on the trekking peaks.......2003-02-13
I found this book a good introduction to anyone expecting to go trekking in East Africa. It goes over, in substantial detail, all the factors you may face (medicine, visas, hotels, transportation, tours, trails, etc.). However, there is very little on the trekking peaks, which I thought would be the most interesting portion of the book. For example, on Mt Kilimanjaro there are only maybe 5-6 pages, with only an overview description of the routes. If you are looking for overall trekking in East Africa, this is good book, but if you are looking for info on the trekking peaks, there are other, more specific guides, that may be more helpful.
Essential luggage items: meds, visas and Lonely Planet.......1999-01-20
I used this book to plan and complete a Kilimanjaro climb, a Tanzanian safari (Serengeti, Olduvai Gorge, Ngorongoro Crater, Lake Manyara) and a trip up the coast of Kenya. The book was more than helpful; it was essential to the success of the trip. Helpful information is complete, accurate and relevant: exactly what you will find in the Lonely Planet Trekking guide. The helpful information -- routes, housing, food, currency, gear, etc. -- are tools to keep you safe, healthy, prepared and even comfortable. The essential information is much more: it gives you a feel for where you are going and what's important about being there. Descriptions of languages, religions, customs, history, geography, geology, climate, etc., gave me a deeper awareness of the countries I was navigating through. This book is strong on both counts. Here's an example: The vocabulary lists were really helpful in opening conversations with staff, villagers and border officials. However, the book's essential advice was to just try your best at speaking Swahili, and the people you meet will respond very warmly to your having made the effort. The results were heartwarming, and they opened the doors to other discoveries I could not have made otherwise. The book itself is a valuable commodity. On Kilimanjaro I leafed through the chapters for maps and plant descriptions. The book so fascinated my guide that I gave him my copy as a parting present (though I couldn't part with it on the climb since it was the only map & route description we had!) Note that the Lonely Planet Trekking books do not promise to be field guides for the areas they describe: bring another volume(s) to help identify the flora and fauna you encounter.
Book Description
Claire just can't mind her own business. It may be meddling, but she knows deep down inside, her friends desperately need her guidance. How would they every get by without her? The gang is going on a ski trip to Killington and everyone is sure they'll have a fantastic time. But with Claire along, there may be more trouble than fun. Claire means well, but her meddling is sure to turn the ski trip into anything but fantastic.
Customer Reviews:
Why can't Claire stay out of their business?.......2003-02-08
Now, don't get me wrong, this is a great book, but...Claire has just gotten a bit TOO involved in the lives of her friends and her sister. She's concocted this little scheme for all 8 of the islanders to go skiing. Only three of them know how to ski, and Chris really isn't in any business to go skiing. Claire crafted up the scheme to get Jake back (she dumped him in Ben's in Love), but it won't work if he (or someone else) finds out.
This book will keep you on pins and needles, and it will make you laugh out loud when people start suspecting Claire!
What is up with Lucas?.......2002-05-31
Ok, I have enjoyed some of these books, and even this one. But what? Lucas breaks up with Zoey, or prepares to end it because she won't have sex with him? I could really go off on that. If he really truely loved her, he would stop to think about her wanting to wait. Although Zoey could have told him better then that. And should have told him that from the start, so I suppose she did lead him on, but still...
claire has issues.......2001-10-05
I really do not have any respect for Claire. She is manipulative and cold. I am glad she is chasing Jake, because Ben is just intelligent and classy for her.

claire gets caught-alex.......2001-02-24
i personally like lucas and zoey the best, they are the cutest! but it [stinks] about claire and jake, how they can't get their relationship to work out. Claire really cares for jake and that when she decides to be a little, or aLOT munipulative and make it so that when she goes to the mountains with the rest of the group, she will make sure that she and jake get back together.. Unfortunatey... the ski trip ends up [badly], i personally think... and i wish that everything were back to the way it was before.... when i read this book i almost started to cry! its so good u feel like you are the characters.. ps benjiman and nina are so cute too
