It's just amazing to me that people would actually rate a book without reading it! Blows me away! You can always tell an innovative method when the those representing the institutions feel threatened. Anyway this is a great book--fun,easy to read and to put into practice. I've given it to pros and beginners and they've all gotten something very new from it.

Warning ! Vulgar language and a relentless focus on Zen and Metaphysics.......2006-04-12

After reading the entire book (except for the sections focusing on Zen and Metaphysics), here is my evaluation of the snowboarding portions of the book: This book could have been a winner, but unfortunately the author distracts and distorts his snowboard knowledge with unnecessary vulgar language and continual illusions to eastern religion. The author has a lot of snowboard experience and knowledge, but the vulgar language, the focus on Zen and the constant striving with mainstream snowboarding distract from learning the established terminology and techniques of snowboarding.

May be ok for beginners.......2006-03-26

I initially picked up this book while I was snowboarding in Vail. I checked out the table of contents and quickly flipped to one of the latter chapters (maybe even the last). There I read a short bit about the difference between your right brain and your left brain and how that relates to your confidence snowboarding. Due to that little bit, I decided to give this book a shot. It seemed interesting.

Unfortunately, all the previous chapters are really geared towards beginners. Everything from the basic terms to how you can simulate the correct stance w/ a pillow (how to practice before ever being on the mountain).

However, I've been snowboarding for ~3 seasons and usually spend 15-20 days on the snow per season. So I have had some experience and know (more or less) what I'm doing. Not to mention, his technique is a little non-conventional. Kinda weird at first, but sorta starts to make sense as you read on.

For someone who's never snowboarded or someone who JUST started, this may be a good book to pick up. But I had a hard time accepting his concepts, mainly because I've developed my own based on feet pressure and utilizing the torsional flex of your board. I didn't thoroughly read the entire book, but he seems to focus primarily on using shoulder/upper body positions to control your board.

This book is absolutely wonderful!!! I have recommended this book to everyone I know. EVERYONE can benifit by reading this. Whether you're an avid snowboarder, or you just someone wanting to get into shape. The writer's stretching workout is benificial for everyone wanting a strong, lean posture. Chapter 8 "Where You'll Find Me" took me to the most beautiful mountains in the world, experiencing the breathtaking beauty without leaving my livingroom. The writer finds a way to balance important information, humor, and his incredible insight into learning to snowboard without getting hurt. I say....Oprah...if you're reading this, get this writer on your show!!!! It's a Wonderful Book!

I really enjoyed this book! After reading No Fall Snowboarding, I'm ready to take on the world. I found that after reading it I well prepared to hit the mountain! I plan on purchasing a couple extra copies for my friends because they keep swiping it!

My Map Has Been to Paris 4 Times.......2005-07-05

Though I've only traveled to Paris once, my map has guided family and friends through Paris three times without me. The map pictured in the current listing looks a bit different than the traditional green covered Lonely Planet city map series (which is the version I bought a few years ago), but I imagine that if anything that the new version is better.

This was my first European laminated city map, and I (a non-French speaker) was able to navigate around Paris (both on foot and the metro) with complete ease! While in Paris I was staying in Montmartre (near the Basilique du Sacre C'ur) and was happy that in addition to the area around the Seine (where most tourists visit and should), that the city map had detailed blow-up views.

My family and friends also found the map very useful. It is light weight, durable, and water proof - all important considerations when traveling in Europe. Furthermore, the map is useful in retracking your footsteps after your trip. With many small monuments and street names, in addition to all the major attractions, years later I can still trace out my stay in Paris.

Easy Paris Navigation.......2004-07-06

Overall, this is an excellent map for getting around the city. It's a quick guide to all major points of interest. It is especially usefull in navigating the Metro, RER and bus system. We had absolutely no problems in finding every place we wanted to go and am very thankful we had this little gem!

Mapping out a reaction ... What a letdown........2003-08-20

The fact that over the years I have used Lonely Planet publications with entire satisfaction and sometimes delight, merely increases my disappointment with this piece of cartographic mediocrity. From every conceivable point of view, it is awful. Any Paris department store gives out better tourist maps ... free.

Pretty good overview map, but..........2003-05-30

I agree with the other posters - you do need a secondary map or guideline if you want something in more detail. It helped me get around Paris just fine, but I think another map might show more detail. The RER/Metro map is very handy, but it's a tradeoff for more detail on the map. If it's your first trip to Paris, take this map and pick up the Lonely Planet Paris book. This should meet the needs of about 98% of tourists.

I have been saving good books for my children since I was a child, much as my mother did for me. This book, in its first printing, was one such book, passed to me by my mother when I was about 13 or 14, about to be passed to my eldest. Set in the post-WWII years, this book is part of a wonderful series about two families, the Parrishes and the Jordans, who are stationed together in the Army and whose live interweave, especially through the heroine of this book, Tippy Parrish.

There are so many trtioe, poorly written and depressing books out for our young adults now, that I find it refreshing to offer my children books that reflect old fashioned values and ideas. Though these books have typical 50's roles for men, women and African Americans, they are none the less still topical, as they deal with how young girls grow up and fall in love. I heartily recommend all of these books!
