Excellent "Why" Book.......2002-11-07

If you are looking for a "how" book, look elsewhere. However, if you are looking for a "why" book this is the one. Why is trust important? Why are relationships essential? Why follow the relationship-based approach? The answers lie here. It is a well documented and, I believe, important book to read.

no valuable content.......2002-05-13

I was looking for a book on how to create trust. The title of the book, and the idea that fundamental change only happens in a culture of trust, seemed to be exactly, what I was looking for. The book contains chapter after chapter just a description of a dream world. The plenty of examples are simply narrative stories that are full of fairy tale. The examples to show, what doesn't work are simply fiction by the author. Anybody can make any point and invent a story to proove that point.

I couldn't read the book entirely. Reading a few chapters and picking interesting spots didn't show a single concrete step on creating trust, or concept on how trust is created.

Read the title, that's about the only valuable part of the book and save the money.

The greatest agricultural state.......2004-08-01

The American Midwest is justly celebrated for its agricultural wealth. But surprisingly to many, the largest agricultural state is California. This guidebook explains the sheer diversity and volume of California farming. Above all, the Central Valley dominates the state's agriculture. We get a comprehensive exposition of the state's crops and livestock, with an emphasis on the Central Valley.

All this is not done in a dry, tabular format. The authors have taken care to also provide an interesting narrative, if you are willing to delve into this subject. The text is judiciously interleaved with maps and photos for added context.

Space is also given to explaining various private and public organisations involved in farming. From farm cooperatives to trade associations and retailers. Plus, of course, the vital role of educational institutions in performing research into ever improving techniques and disease prevention. Not surprising, considering the book was put together by the University of California.

Overall a very good reference.......2003-06-21

This is a very easy to read book that definately helped me prepare for my comprehensive exam at the end of my first year of grad school. My only problem with it is that there are some errors -- the amino acid structures are not all correct, and there are also mistakes in the DNA structure figures. So while the book is still a great read, dont study from the figures!

This is a great book for exams.The book is interspersed with numerous tables and charts that make it easy to study from. The chapters on protein and nucleic acid interaction and mutations are particularly helpful. Topics that cover plasmids is also very good and easy to comprehend. On the whole a great book. It really helped me do well in my exams.

Informative with brevity.......1999-11-03

I have found that this text has a significant amount of intelectual wealth devoted to its pages. Where it lacks in brevity, it provides for looking into the future for continuing trends in molecular biology. Details of the nature of several topics are sufficient, however some are not as descriptive as they could be. Good writing makes this book a good reference for graduate students.

We are traveling the US for almost a year and have purchased the East as well as the West edition before we started. Besides the fact, that we found only a few nice spots described in those books so far, our comments are as follows:

1. The contents of both editions are outdated - certain camgrounds do
simply not exist any more for years!!
2. The directions are awful if not wrong
3. We spent more diesel on finding the described campgrounds than we saved
not to mention the hazzle, driving around in circles
4. Lots of directions seem to be copied from other books we have and are
as wrong as they are in those
5. Campgrounds indicated in the maps by numbers (icons) are not part of
the book anymore
6. The icons in the maps are close to impossible to read (use a
magnifier)

Overall we can absolutely NOT recommend those books to anybody.

Can't agree with the gentleman who says it is only for the young. I am 65 with a 23 foot B+ and have found numerous out of the way as well as near the Interstate places to stay for peanuts. The information tends to get dated quickly, but seems to be OK when getting just the relative costs (what was $5 is now $10, etc.) Maps are a little primative but there is SO MUCH information in the text. I just ordered the 2005 editions (East and West) for my upcoming trips.

Wonderful book!.......2006-07-09

We took this book out west through Colorado, New Mexico & Utah and had a blast finding these "out of the way" campgrounds. Great discriptions and directions to these sites and only 1 of the campgrounds we visited was not there any more. I would suggest everyone who likes to camp out of the crowded campgrounds and doesn't require hookups or showers to get this book. It's wonderful!

Money Saved on Camping Overnight.......2006-07-08

We have used this great little book many times to do overnight stays. Have found many very nice, town, city---sometimes free-- sometimes $5.00,sometimes with elec. And it nice to get off the hiway & not have to stay in a Walmart or truck stop. We do not like paying $25.00 to $30.00 just to park by 5 P.M. & be up & on our way by 7 A.M. the next morning! By finding only one park for one night, even with the price this book costs, you have already saved money!!! Highly recommend it!!

Good Guide to Outdoors New Zealand.......2006-08-01

I am inclined to agree with reviewer Jaffe and the Editorial Reviews. As a native Kiwi I know Auckland and Fiordland well having hiked extensively in both areas.
The Auckland sections covers the well known outdoor main attractions of the region well: the islands of the Hauraki Gulf and the extensive network of regional parks, many of which are coastal and have fantastic views from the walks in them.
Fiordland is the "honey pot" for accessible wilderness hiking in New Zealand. The description of the History, National Parks, short day walks and longer multi-day treks on well formed tracks is quite good. The maps are a bit scant, but you will buy better maps when you arrive in an area. And NZ does publish a wide selection of very good maps of all our park network. For a day-by-day detailed guide to the walks you are better to buy the Lonely Planet "Tramping in New Zealand" (even us locals use it). The book index is not so good, even the Routeburn "Great walk" (the finest 3 day walk in NZ in my opinion) is not listed but you can find it on page 457 with a 1/2 page description of it. After 5 years the book is not really dated. The one new development in NZ is private walking tracks and I can recommend the Banks Peninsula Track just out of Christchurch (page 388 of the book).
So as a one volume "outdoor type" guide to NZ the book is worth buying and fills a niche not quite met by Rough Guide or Lonely Planet.
So come and visit us.

Best NZ guide for the environmental traveler.......2004-04-19

My partner and I found "Adventuring..." the single most useful guide for our visit to New Zealand in January 2003. I disagree with the prior negative customer review and wonder if M. Goldstein actually used this book for travel to New Zealand or was merely an armchair traveler seeking amusement.

It's true this isn't the kind of general guidebook so ably done by Lonely Planet and others. Jefferies doesn't refer the reader to specific restaurants or lodgings. What she does superbly is to introduce each region of the country with a detailed essay on its flora, fauna, terrain and history.

Her knowledge of New Zealand's parklands runs much deeper than a conventional guidebook. While not neglecting famous tourist attractions, she takes you far off the beaten path to smaller forest preserves that harbor natural treasures. The book is not a detailed trail guide, but it points you to the access points for the back country with useful general descriptions of many hikes.

Jefferies doesn't glamorize. Her descriptions of the deforestation and other environmental abuses that New Zealand has suffered might unsettle a conventional sightseer. For the environmental traveler with a serious interest in the natural history of the islands, it's just right.

Not up to Sierra Club's usual standards........1998-11-05

Adventuring in New Zealand turns out to be a fairly pedestrian travel guide, with little to recommend it. While claiming to be an "adventuring guide", there's little more about hiking, parks, fishing, climbing, etc. than any of the standard guidebooks. Design, illustrations, and indexing are second rate. Give this one a miss.

Here Comes A Great "Here Comes Heavenly" Book!.......2001-05-08

I have read all of them but this is probably the best one. It's another story with Kit Rand as the narrator. This time, the Rands have just got back to their home, Soundview Manor, from Italy! In town, a lady named Cocci Nelliday (pronounced "Coke-y")has been accussed of being a WITCH! They say that she saved a family by levitating them over a speeding truck. And yes, there were MANY witnesses. And now, they are all wondering, is Heavenly, the Rand's nanny, who was brought up by Cocci, a witch, too? Reporters are following Heavenly and the Rands everywhere! They are so afraid of losing Heavenly that they might even have to reveal Heavenly's secret to big-mouth Samara... and even their Mom and Dad! Their piano teacher, Wes Shackelford, is in LOVE with Heavenly and would do ANYTHING for her. So, of course he would rescue her. And Roy is back in Kit's life, confusing everything even more, if possible. This new Heavenly story was very thrilling and kept me on my toes through the whole book! It has a very exciting but happy ending! EVERYONE SHOULD READ IT!!! It's a very great book! HERE COMES TODD STRASSER WITH THE BEST HEAVENLY BOOK EVER!
