From the supplier: The Energy Policy Act of 1992 mitigates many of the problems the oil and gas industries had with the alternative minimum tax (AMT) for intangible drilling costs (IDCs). The act contains beneficial depletion rules that can be applied to wells drilled before 1993. Some problems with IDCs remain, but the government claims the act will cost them $456 million, suggesting that the IDC preference is less formidable than it was. There will probably be further changes in the taxation of IDCs.

A whole new direction.......2001-04-29
I first discovered Nora Seton through her book The Kitchen Congregation, and immediately set off to read any other book she had written. The Road to My Farm is her account of venturing into the world of farming. Entering Texas A&M to study for a masters degree in agracultural science , Nora is so taken with the farming side of life, she sets off to establish a farm of her own. What follows is a well thought out and written tale of what it means to farm today. Decisions that need to be made, organic or chemical, livestock or crops, or a bit of both. To farm full time or just part time, to sell comercially or just at a roadside stand? Along for the adventure is her husband who is far more tolerant than many spouses of either sex. Just as they find and are about to acquire what seems to be their dream farm, a job transfer threatens to whisk them away. The snippet of conversation between the author and a determined tractor dealer is certain to bring smiles of recognition (and relief) as the reader remembers their own close calls with car salesmen. What is most striking about this book it the information it does not cover (or maybe the information that I would most like to know)....How does a young woman growing up in the east, daughter of a novelist and Ivy League educated, turn to farming as a passion?

Book Description
The Second Mexican Meeting on Mathematical and Experimental Physics brought together scientists from many different fields. The Meeting was divided into three Symposia: (i) Materials Science and Applied Physics, (ii) Statistical Physics and Beyond, (iii) Gravitation and Cosmology. This volume corresponds to the Materials Science and Applied Physics symposium and contains contributions in a wide range of subjects reflecting the research being performed at several Mexican universities and institutes as well as some outstanding invited speakers from abroad showing us some areas where, for several reasons, Mexico has developed little or no research. All the papers report original high-quality research work in subjects such as: (i) laser materials processing and laser ablation, (ii) optical properties of materials with scattered laser light, (iii) biophysics and biosystems, (iv) complex fluids and (v) optical manipulation of microparticles with laser beams.

Great Overall Look at Missouri State Parks.......2006-06-26
Having lived in Virginia, Tennessee, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, and Oklahoma, I can honestly say that Missouri has one of the best and strongest State Park Systems in the US. In fact, Missouri is a hidden gem in a nation of vacation goers who flock lemming like to Yellowstone, Yosemite, and the Smokies.
Missouri is centrally located and has an outstanding highway system that gets you to all corners and to the most remote of its state parks.
This book provides a great source of photographs and text, which are enough to tease you for a visit to parks as diverse as Ha-Ha-Tonka, Washington State Park, Taum Sauk Mountain, and Babler to mention only a scant few.
Don't expect this tome to go into great detail about each of the parks. It doesn't, but the book's purpose is to relate how Missouri's State Park system evolved and then to showcase each one of them. And the book is remarkably succesful in achieving this goal. Perhaps the books most glaring shortcoming is the lack of maps, but this is a coffee table book and won't fit in most fanny packs.
It remains an oft looked at resource in my library. Many a trip began in its pages.
Grab a copy of this book, and let it guide you to some of Missouri's hidden treasures. And treasures they are. In 1978 I arrived in St. Louis, a Tennessee teen raised on Blue Ridge hiking. In my sullen anger at having been transplanted from God's country, I assumed Missouri had nothing to offer me. Some 25 years later, I continue to be pleasantly surprised by all that Missouri can offer. About the only thing Missouri can't provide are crowds...and that's a wonderful thing.

Great Book.......2007-10-09
This is a really good book . . . I have been studying Tae Kwon Do for a couple of years now and this book allows be a quick review of some of the things we do at class. The step by step Poomsae picture section at the end is very helpful for polishing your forms.
I highly recommend this book.
Really Good for beginners.......2007-01-17
I bought this my first week of TaeKwonDo. At first it was a little overwhelming. As I learned, the book became a very useful tool. It's really great to practice the physical and read the theory and history behind it in this book. It's a great guide for practicing at home. I recommend this book for any beginner to this sport.
Taekwondo: The State of the Art.......2006-11-17
This book offers a comprehensive overview of Taekwondo, from the history and philosophy of TKD to strikes and Poomse. It is the perfect reference for beginners and intermediate students of TKD.
Great book for beginners.......2006-04-02
Excellent summary of TKD techniques, philosophy and forms, however advanced TKD practitioners may find it too basic and lack of deepness. Illustrations are great, it was a superb idea to substitute photos with drawings since important details can be pointed out more easily.
Great "after class" reference.......2006-02-25
It is hard to remember everything that you learn in an hour class. This book is a handy reference for the things that I have forgotten! My daughter, who is five and also a student in the class, has found the pictures to be easy to follow!
The history section is also interesting!

A user's guide to a guide.......2004-08-02
I have used this travel guide (printed in 1996) during three trips to Bolivia (June 2000 to July 2004). It is by now quite outdated, particularly as regards addresses, telephones, and even the existence of new facilities (e.g. the new rail and bus terminal at Santa Cruz).
Other than that, as a biologist born in neighbor Argentina I found some weird passages on this subject. For instance, the information presented on the natural history of the national parks ranges from almost nonsense (aggressive insects attacking tourists in Noel Kempff Mercado) to reasonably accurate. The author has a frequent ironic viewpoint on many cultural characteristics of Bolivia. Sometimes this makes for funny reading. But she misses several points. For instance, she thinks that the departamental capital of Pando, Cobija, is named after the Spanish word for blanket, and this provokes some comic remarks on the tropical sticky climate. But as a matter of fact, Cobija is named after the main seaport that Bolivia had before the Pacific war.
Outdated, with an Attitude Problem.......2001-02-22
I just returned from my 4th visit to Bolivia, using my 3rd Lonely Planet guide. During one month in 4 cities, I became increasingly frustrated with the same dead ends that other reviewers have mentioned...incorrect phone info, little e-info, disappearing restaurants, etc., due to the guide's 1996 date. I have never appreciated Swaney's arrogant and condescending attitude toward one of my favorite nations and its people, and found it even more annoying each time I had to cross out another bit of her outdated information. Having whined and complained, I still must admit that this guide is by far the best for leading me to the specific kinds of hotels and eating places I'm always looking for, and giving me just the amount of historic and cultural detail I'm seeking. Lonely Planet is by far the most thorough and comprehensive guide to all of Bolivia (--others focus mainly on the Andes--), and I long for a new edition....hopefully penned by someone with more respect for the country than Swaney seems to have.
Buyer beware.......2001-01-03
I just returned from Bolivia with this book as my only guide. I nearly threw it out the bus window in frustration. Although much of the out of date information is due to the fact that the book is five years old, there is no excuse for the scores of addresses for museums and the like that are completely wrong. There is also a major lack of basic info like the location of bus terminals. I also heard from many people who got lost for days trying to follow the book's directions on treks. Best to pay a little extra and hire a reputable guide who knows the area. Also be aware that because of changes in the Bolivian phone company, virtually none of the telephone numbers in the book are correct. It's definately time for a new edition, hopefully done with a little more care.
Lonely Planet will be with you throughout Bolivia.......2000-12-27
As always, this is a piece of lullage well worth its price and its weight. It contains unparalleled advice on how to get around in this wonderful land, from the heights bordering Peru to the low lands of Cochabamba and Santa Cruz. The advice is clear, well-writte, useful, and entertaining at the same time. Its only problem is that it dates back to 1996, and lots of things have changed since then.
Good, reliable information on this wonderful country........2000-09-27
Lonely Planet Travel Handbooks have become a standard of excellence in presenting good, reliable information and advice for the more adventuresome traveler and "Bolivia" is no exception.
The section "Facts for Visitors" is the best sources of needed information on the market today. The color photo plates, charts and most maps are superb.
Swaney has done a great service to ecology and environment in her section on development in the disappearing Amazon. Sadly, she only gives a cursive mention to ecotourism, an economy that offers hope for the dwindling environment of Bolivia. Recommend

An Average Book.......2006-10-18
The King of Slippery Falls
By Sid Hite
This book is about a high school boy living in a small town in Idaho who struggles to figure out his true identity after being told he was adopted as a baby. He wants to find his true origin and his real name. His main desire is to fish from a ledge high above the town's main tourist attraction, Slippery Falls, and catch his dream fish which he glimpsed lurking behind the falls the year before. Using only the limited resources of the town and the help from his friends he hopes to bring home his dream catch, but it will be a dangerous mission.
This book is not a very well written. The writer does not have a good flowing plot, the events in the story are highly improbable and the writer failed to grab the readers' attention in the introduction. But most of all the ending was terrible. It made the book ten times worse because the ending left you hanging. A couple of things I can give credit to the writer is that he had good descriptive words and sentences and you could imagine most of the landscapes described. Also the book made some good points about life and how you should go about living.
I don't recommend this book to anyone who likes a book with decent writing and a story that grabs you the whole way and makes you not want to put the book down. This book would be better suited for the genre fantasy. If you like fantasy I would highly recommend the book Eragon or its sequel Eldest. I can't recommend any other realistic fiction books because I have not read very many of them.

telling your life story.......2004-09-17
This humorous look at small town life is moving, funny, and at times sad, as our hero, Lewis Hinton, struggles to deal with the news that he was adopted. Since hearing the news on his fifteen birthday he's been self-absorped, but his life is to become even more complex on his 16th birthday when his adopted mother gives him a letter that was in the basket with him.
This book would appeal to middle school through high school, and is very tame by modern Young Adult standards. A fun, touching story, which I hope will have a sequel.
Terrible!.......2004-08-21
This book was chosen by my son's school as a book club selection. I can't imagine why. The plot didn't hang together, the situations were implausible, and the characters were hard to believe. The ending was even worse than the rest of the book. I kept wondering throughout the whole book what could possibly have made anyone choose this book! Yuck!
Absolutely fantastic!.......2004-08-12
A touching, funny, and altogether entertaining story. "King of Slippery Falls" will make you laugh, sniffle, and most of all smile. Wholeheartedly reccommended.
