Pruning Made Easy.......2007-09-29
An excellent guide for pruning everything in the garden. Diagrams are clear and easy to follow. After looking at more that 20 books on pruning, Pruning Made Easy was my choice and I am very satisfied.
Pictures are worth one thousand words!.......2007-02-27
I like this book so much - this is the third copy I have purchased this year! (I keep giving my copy away to family members who desperately need it.) The black line drawings are what keep bring me back to this one book for all of our pruning needs. We have berry bushes (some wild and some we planted ourselves), flowering shrubs, fruit trees, a bonzi tree, a dogwood, grape vines, 3 old Oaks trees and 2 young Walnut trees. This ONE BOOK has helped us to care for each of them according to their needs and age. It has helped turn my brown thumb into green.
PRUNING.......2007-01-09
This book was very helpful for the gardener with lots of trees and shrubs
Highly Recommended.......2006-09-03
If you're looking for a good basic book on pruning this is it. I purchased the Ortho book on Pruning and it was a terribe. I went to the library and rented several books on pruning and this was by far the best.
O.K.......2004-12-15
I was somewhat disappointed when this book came. I was expecting a detailed description on pruning individual types of trees. For example, I wanted a book that I could look crepe myrtle up in the index go to that page and have a detailed description on how and when to prune. Crepe Myrtle is not even in the index. I am going to buy the Southern Living Gardening book now.

The text is simple, interesting and informative. The colored drawings and photos illustrate how to properly prune shrubs, climbers, hedges and trees.”—Rocky Mountain News.

Customer Reviews:
Wish I may... I wish I might..........2006-12-20
Those cool little thingies. The Klutz "Wishing Stars" pack is one of the best (and most original) craft books out there. For something so simple, they do cause a lot of amusement. Who figured out how to fold these stars anyway? All of my friends want to know where and how I learned the directions to make the pretty, little things. Thanks Klutz, we've certainly had some fun times with them!
Star-Tastic.......2006-05-27
Once upon a time I was wondering around the streets of Chinatown in San Francisco and I saw a store that sold strips of cool colored paper and I thought to myself "I have no earthly idea what this could be used for... I must purchase some..." and did so promptly...
Never did a thing with them...
Fast forward to finding "Wishing Stars: Everything You Need to Make 100 Tiny Origami Stars" by the always brilliant Klutz wizards... And not only did I suddenly know exactly what to do with the strips of paper... I was in star making heaven...
The instructions seemed very clear to me, which is saying a lot since I'm dyslexic... Sure, it takes you a couple of good run throughs to get the feel of "star making," but once you get it, you'll be whipping them out in seconds... They're a very Zen way to pass time... I've made stars on airplanes, in cars, in nightclubs while bored, on trains and in restaurants as a cute addition to a tip...
I think most people would find this kit to be as star-tastic as I did, it just takes a little patience...
These are the cutest dang things ever!.......2004-11-29
I got this for Christmas one year and I absolutely fell in love with them. I used to have a friend that would make these little stars but I was never able to make them every time she tried to teach it to me. Then one day I moved across the country so i was never able to learn. I then found this book on the internet and I knew I had to have it! Klutz just made it so simple and I liked that you could put your paper on the pictures to see if you were doing it right! I was so exicted when I got this that I brought it to school to show my friends. At lunch all we did was make stars it was so much fun! Thanx again klutz!
You Will Love Wishing Stars!.......2004-05-06
Klutz has done it again with a fantastic how to guide on little origami stars. As with all things Klutz, the instructions are very well written and easy to understand. You will be making these little stars before you know it.
Wishing Stars is fun for all ages and for anyone interested in starting out doing origami. Everything you need to get started is right in this little kit and you will soon realize the possibilities for these little works of art are endless - my personal favorite is to top packages with them.
Cute & easy.......2004-04-14
I love these little stars! I used all 100 of them as packing peanuts for my niece's birthday present. Needless to say, she loved it. They're very easy to make, and kind of relaxing in a zen-like way. One tip for the reviewer who said that her kids had a hard time making the stars- I folded the instruction card so that step one was facing out. Then I clipped it with a jumbo paper clip. I slide the paper under the clip to make aligning the first fold easy. It never fails, and that first fold is the hardest. After that, it's cake. Kids (and adults)love making and receiving these. This kit is worth every penny!

Book Description
In this Symposium, researchers specializing in pulsation, rotation, magnetic fields and stellar winds are brought together for the first time in order to broaden our understanding of O and B stars. Thanks to advances in digital spectroscopy, new types of pulsating B stars have been discovered. The pulsations can be understood in terms of the recent revision of metal opacities, but the effects of rapid rotation and magnetic fields need further study. Observations in the UV and X-ray regions demonstrate that many B and Be stars show other activity, besides pulsation which is not yet understood. The reason for the enhanced mass loss in Be stars is a question which dominates the Symposium and which remains unanswered, although it is surely to be found in activity at or near the photosphere coupled with rotation. It is shown that the geometry of the circumstellar envelopes around Be stars is indeed a flattened disk as they can now be optically resolved. The variability of radiatively-driven winds from O and B stars are likely related to the rotation of the star. This underlines the central theme of the book: that the various phenomena seen in these stars cannot be studied in isolation.

Trekking Through History
ASIN: 1859739288 |
Book Description
The passionate response of the British public to the Newbury Bypass is a revealing measure of how strongly people feel about trees and the environment. Similarly, in the United States, the giant sequoia of California is an enduring national symbol that inspires intense feelings. As rainforests are sacrificed to the interests of multi-national corporations and traditional ways of life disappear, the status of forests, the cultural significance of trees, and the impact of conservation policies are subjects that have inspired intense engagement. Why do people feel so strongly about trees? With this explosion of interest in environmental issues, a serious study of what trees mean to people has long been overdue.
This interdisciplinary book responds to this need by providing the first cross-cultural analysis of tree symbolism. Drawing on rich case studies, contributors explore the processes through which trees are used as metaphors of identity and continuity. Political struggles over forest resources feature prominently, and the perceptions of trees in various cultures provide telling insights into the ways in which human societies conceptualize nature.
As well as being a major contribution to the field of symbolic anthropology, this comprehensive study will be essential reading for students in a wide range of courses and for anyone with a keen interest in the politics of ecology, the occult and neo-paganism, and the history and sociology of environmentalism in its widest sense.

Great Cheerleading Book!!.......2007-05-13
I recently began coaching cheerleading. I had been a cheerleader in middle school and high school, but that was years and years ago. I wanted to refresh my memory of all the things I learned back then, as well as catch up on all the new stuff, and this book really helped. A great tool! I'm glad I decided on this book.
It sure pleased my 13 year old cheerleader.......2007-01-09
My daughter has been cheering since 3rd grade in the town cheerleading squad. She does not do competition cheerleading. She also now cheers for the Junior High she attends. I picked up the book as a present for Christmas and she loves it. I don't know how it would be for anyone else, but she thinks it's great. There are a lot of illustrations in it and she is looking forward to maybe incorporating some of the ideas in her High School squad next year. It was reasonable priced compared to some of the cheerleading products out there like the CD's and video sets. Hope this helps.
Great for all cheerleaders/coaches.......2006-05-13
As a high school cheerleader, I can say that "The Ultimate Guide to Cheerleading" is one of the most updated books available on cheerleading today, unlike most books published in the 80's that have all of those illegal stunts and outdated cheers. However, this is definitely a good book for cheerleaders, which includes
- Steps to starting a team for coaches who are interested in doing so (i.e.: setting up tryouts, enforcing goal setting for your team, judging criteria for tryouts, etc.)
-Tryout info and advice, along with a section to help you decide if you truly want to be a cheerleader.
- Basic motions, cheers, and chants
- Jumps (the great thing is that this book covers all 8 of basic counts for jumps and fully illustrates them with photos)
- Stunting (the most comprehensive stunting section I have EVER seen in a book... starting off with single base, then moving on to multiple base, basket tosses, and pyramids)
- Competition cheerleading
The only minor thing I don't like is that there really isn't anything about tumbling, and as another reviewer mentioned before, the book skips a few basic stunts, and moves straight to more advanced ones that wouldn't be suggested for beginners. However, if you are on an advanced squad, you will probably appreciate all the ideas for more difficult stunts, because they're all covered. But overall, this is a good book for all cheerleaders and covers (almost) everything you should/need to know. It's definitely the most comprehensive up-to-date book on cheerleading today.
Great for Stunting.......2006-04-13
This book is great! It shows in detail on stunting and pyramids. I'm a new coach for an all star team and I've been hunting for a book like this. It also has great ideas for cheers, training tips, and sample forms. I wish it would have went into more detail on tumbling but overall a must have for any cheerleader or coach!
A fabulous resource for beginner to advanced coaches!.......2005-08-15
Leslie's 'Ultimate Guide to Cheerleading: For Cheerleaders and Coaches' is a fabulous resource for beginner to advanced coaches! I found it very helpful, and I have been coaching for several years, all levels. The illustrations make it a "hands-on" learning experience for those who are visual learners, great for beginners! I found it especially unique that she demonstrates the techniques and skills herself in the photos, not many writers can provide their own illustrations, and done perfectly. I found it very useful, thumbs up. Thank you for sharing your passion and knowledge with us. Can't wait for the next project Leslie! Way to go!

Book Description
When David Schumacher, a 16-year-old high school junior from California, decides to change his name to Blue Avenger (after a comic book superhero he draws), his whole life takes on amazing new dimensions. No longer the shy and studious David, Blue sets out to right society's wrongs, defend the underdog, and in this third book in the popular series, rescue his true love, Omaha Nebraska Brown, from eviction a fate that would spell certain separation for Blue and Omaha. When a multimillionaire appears and tempts Blue to use his cryptographic capabilities to invent an off-color license plate and fool the prudish censor, will he take the bait? Underlying all the fun is the mysterious question: Is Blue a real-live boy from Oakland or has he become the comic book superhero he created?
Customer Reviews:
The Best of a Genre.......2006-05-15
I love Norma Howe's books. And this, the third in her series of "Blue Avenger" novels for young adults, provides plenty of thought-fodder. Reading this book doesn't necessarily force the reader into a contemplatative state... it entices it, teases it forth from that part of the reader's mind that is too often lulled into a stupor when reading books aimed at younger readers. Norma Howe will have none of that complacency, all while providing a captivating, thrilling story with amiable (if somewhat altriistic) characters you wish you knew in high school. Blue Avenger (a.k.a. David Bruce Schumacher) leads an ordinary - yet peculiarly exciting - teenaged life, lending credibility to even the most bizarre set of circumstances. Truly a challenging and enjoyable read, this book heightens the mythos surrounding our regular kid "superhero." I received my copy as a gift - and I have yet to find a way to adequately thank the giver. Norma Howe will altar the way you see some of the most commonly-accepted (or even ignored) details we've all taken for granted.
