Out of the 500 targeted CEOs, 143 participated in this study. Seventy-six percent of the respondents demonstrated a good understanding of the basic concepts of executive coaching. Eighty-three percent were able to distinguish coaching from consulting, 61% stated that coaching can make their life somewhat better, 49% agreed on the idea of hiring executive coaches, and 32% declared that they had hired coaches. Those who never hired a coach showed a great deal of willingness (37%) to hire one. Sixty-two percent of the respondents indicated a preference for coaches from outside their organizations, 51% would search for one through human resources, 31% preferred sites off their company premises for coaching sessions, and 43% would keep their coaching relationship confidential. Thirty-nine percent of the participants expressed the belief that coaching should not be limited to a specific management level, and 37% said they supported research related to executive coaching. Based on these findings, executive coaching can be considered as a worthwhile investment. Future studies may take a closer look at the details and characteristics of the coaching session, and may explore what is called the "trusted advisor," someone who is believed to be much closer to the client than is the coach.

The study explored the perception of executive coaching among the chief executive officers (CEOs) of America's largest 500 companies as shown on Fortune magazine list of April 15, 2002. Excellent overview of province's waterfalls.......2006-08-05

Few people in Ontario, much less the rest of Canada, realize there are substantial waterfalls outside of the west, north and, perhaps, Quebec. This book goes a long way toward rectifying that.

Author Mark Harris divides the province into 5 districts -- Algoma, cottage country, Golden Horseshoe (around the western end of Lake Ontario), Lake Huron and Ottawa Valley -- and uses George Fischer's mostly excellent colour photographs to show us what this province has to offer.

Together, they cover at least 100 waterfalls, including more than a dozen in the Hamilton/Ancaster area (who knew an area best known for steel mills has such natural wonders?)

Each waterfall has a two-page spread including detailed driving instructions, fact boxes including rating, size and nearest settlement, plus a short essay on the waterfall and its history.

Is the book useful? You bet. It quickly became my prime resource when I want to photograph waterfalls. (Another resource:Waterfalls The Niagara Escarpment, by Jerry Lawton and Mikal Lawton. The pictures aren't as good, but it's still quite useful).

This book absolutly keeps you intrested from the first page to the last. After a recent trip to the Falls ( having not been there since a 9 yr old kid) i was captivated by the wonder of the falls and the respect it comands. I wanted to know more, not just everyday facts, but the inside stories and how lives are affected by the wonder of Niagara. this book captures that and makes the reader gain a respect for the falls and for all those who dare to take on the wonder of it. The stories of those who tept fate at the falls are intriguing and very well told. Again it gives you an added appriciation for the wonder and power of such an amazing place. Anyone with an Intrest in the falls and wants to know more about it and how it affects people has to read this book.

Having grown up just a few miles from the falls and working there for four summers, I've seen and heard first hand many accounts of lives lost tempting fate on this incredibly dangerous river (both upper and lower). Perhaps having been a local I have a better appreciation and respect for the Niagara. But I am constantly amazed at the stunts and stupidity people will undertake trying to conquer this obviously unconquerable landmark. After each account you'll be asking yourself the same question locals have for years... what was that guy thinking?

Great behind the scenes look at MMA's rise .......2006-12-23

If you are a fan of MMA (mixed martial arts) and want to know how the sport got to where it is today, you will find this book engrossing. When the sport first started, it faced legal and financial obstacles at every turn. Many legislators wanted to ban it as "human cockfighting." The early promoters had to deal with technical glitches, unpredictable (outside the cage) fighters, corrupt government officials, even crime syndicate interference. When you know more of the story, you have to admire the folks who persevered through all that to get the sport to where it is now. It is a story rich with interesting characters, grudges, betrayals, and also honor and some humor. The writing is clear. The amount of inside information is surprising. If you are interested in the business side of this sport, you will definitely enjoy this book.

Exhaustive study on MMA .......2006-06-21

As a graduate student, I've come across a lot of "scholarly books" which, for the most part, establish the author as the sole authority in some particular field or subject area. Freud to psychoanalysis; C.S. Lewis to Christianity; Herb Kliebard to Education; Clyde Gentry to MMA...perhaps. Nonetheless, I think this book makes him the foremost authority on the history of MMA.

The book follows the rise of MMA, with great detail and with behind-the-scenes information. Each chapter is rich with detail and explanations on the various complexities of the world of MMA. This is a must read for any MMA fan.

Book was great in capturing the colorful, carny conception, and the bailing wire way the mma craze started in the US. Really just a history of the UFC, but great anecdotes and behind the scenes factual gems.

Excellent read!! SO much you didn't know about the sport!!.......2005-07-28

Clyde does a fantastic job with No Holds Barred. I bought the newer edition in paperback and it has been an excellent read. He hold no punches in exposing all levels of the sport including behind the scenes politics, rivalries, challenges to traditional martial arts, and potentially "worked" matches in the sport as few as they are.

My only criticism is he was very in depth up until UFC Japan and then rushed through after that covering 20 or so UFC's in 15 pages or less. More behind the scenes about Pride would also be good. He might consider breaking into 2 Volumes at his next publishing to help with this...

All in all well done though Clyde. And this is coming from on of the forefathers in MMA information as I ran the very first Gracie Jiu-Jitsu training association website in 1995!!

Well researched.......2004-09-03

It's a shame this book is out of print as it is well researchs and contained a great aggregation of facts of the early days of NHB. As a long time fan of the Ultimate Fighting Championship, I thought I knew everything there was to know about the subject. I was humbled in my knowledge as Clyde's behind the scenes knowledge rapidly broadened my perspective.

Much better than I expected........2000-03-23

To be honest, I didn't expect much from this book; I bought it because I am a fan of the author's Roswell High series. However, I found this title to be suprisingly good. There wasn't much action, but the characters were likable, and I really enjoyed the ending. Even though I had never been in a situation like either Julia or Maggie, I could still relate to them. I only had one question: The book seemed to focus just as much on Maggie as Julia, so why was it called Julia?

A modern day Parent Trap!.......2000-02-27

I really loved this book! It starts out with two look-alikes, Julia and Maggie who are both dreading their Sweet Sixteen birthday parties, but for different reasons. They may look alike but they're from different worlds. Julia, is a rich girl from New York who feels like her life is being ran by her parents. They have her whole life planned out. Maggie is from a different part of New York, your typical fun girl. But her mother left her when she was born, and to her surprise, she's just going to show up on her Sweet Sixteen!
