Lani tells you step by step how to get organized and prepared for ANY kind of speech/presentation, whether formal or informal, to a group of 3 or a group of 1000. I have always been shy about speaking in front of others, but after reading this book, I now have the confidence I need to feel at ease when called upon to "perform". From the supplier: A panel discussion attended by chief executives revealed the difficulties in managing people in times of organizational changes. Participants concurred that the hardest tasks they usually face in large-scale changes are enlisting and maintaining employee support for the initiative. AlliedSignal CEO Lawrence Bossidy pointed out that the success of any transformation rests on the context. He cited the fact that General Electric failed in its change effort in the early 1980s because employees felt that change was not needed. Ford and Chrysler, in contrast, were successful because employees understood that change was needed for the survival of their employers. He said that consistent, candid communication with employees should be established to convince them that change is needed and gain their support. Terry Neill of Andersen Consulting, also mentioned training, rewards and recognition, in addition to communication, as vital factors in successful change management.

The Standard Pesticide User's Guide.......2000-06-16
We use the book for the Department of Agricultural Pesticide Certification Program which is given to all new employees. The book is very useful in looking up general pesticide information as well indepth information on fumigations. The books format and print is very legable and easy to understand. The topic for each and every chapter are clearly spelled out and guild you to the proper sections in the book.I realize the labels that are in the book constantly change and are hard to keep current but I see the author tries their best to keep it current. The cost of the book seems quite high for organisations to purchase new copies every few years.

A Fantastic Science Book! How to Make Stuff!.......2004-02-12
Unquestionably one of the best books I've ever seen on this subject. Not only for "young scientists" but ANY adult, as well, who is just getting into the hobby or wants to advance from a beginner level.
What I especially like about this book is that it teaches you how to MAKE stuff! This is a rare "hands-on" type of book.
Chapters: Building a Theodolite, Sundials, The Analemma, Telescope-Making, The Optical Telescope, Radio Telescopes, The Construction and Use of a Spectroscope, Building a Planetarium, Model Construction, Observing the Sun, Observing the Moon, Observing the Planets, Measuring the Earth's Circumference, Comets and Meteors, Tiny Particles, Variable Stars, The Timing of Occultations, Star-Guaging the Milky Way, Blinking, Astrophotography, Contests and Competitions.
Highly recommended for young scientists, every adult with an interest in astronomy, anybody who treasures a great home science library, and especially FOREIGN STUDENTS [ESL/EFL] who will be coming to the USA/UK/CANADA and entering a science program or as a science major at the college or university level.

Book Description
In 1653, Sir Izaak Walton penned The Compleat Angler, the landmark discourse on the joys of fishing. Now, nearly four centuries later, Christopher Arelt and Sebastian O'Kelly (aka The Brown Water Boys) bring you The Offbeat Angler, a modern day take on Sir Izaak's favored sport as told through a collection of amusing fishing stories highlighted by over 100 illustrations. Something fishy is going on, and these two will stop at nothing to cast their flies in big city ponds, polluted canals, highway ditches, nuclear power plant outflows, and other spots where man and beast dare not tread. No technique is off-limits, no species too unusual, as they do battle with carp, shad, bowfin, tarpon and exotic rejects from the local aquarium. Besides some astounding catches, you'll bear witness to a boatload of antics and miscues, meet a host of colorful characters, and wince at an ample creeful of bad fishing puns. So, take a journey to the far side of a fishing life with two of Sir Izaak's 21st Century descendants and share some laughs along the seldom-traveled way in this easy-to-read collection of angling adventures that speaks to the fisherman in us all.
Customer Reviews:
The only thing offbeat is their talent.......2006-10-22
After reading the reviews I was really looking forward to this book - what a disappointment. Don't the others who reviewed this thing ever leave their apartments? The stories and topics are pretty boring - and not at all well written. I found nothing "offbeat" about their "adventures." After years of angling and reading great books by people who understand the sport and nature, I am dumbfounded as to how others might find this book to be of any real value - especially 5 stars.
Fishing is connection with nature, which usually means the practitioner learns something about nature - this is the first fishing book I've read that calls a rock ledge an "escarpment" and brambles or thorns "pricker bushes". The authors also seem to think they were the first to ever trespass or to fish for carp in ditches or stripers from a rented rowboat. If the authors were talented storytellers perhaps they could turn these trips into something interesting, but this part of their craft is lacking.
If you want to read well written stories of offbeat angling, get some early Gierach books, not this one. Arelt and O'Kelly write in a breathless style, sharing sophomoric observations and their own opinions, which are neither enlightening nor fact based. Guys, Jane Fonda comes from a fly fishing family and she brought Ted Turner to the sport, so don't worry about her. Instead, worry that people in our society mistake what you do for literature.
Offbeat angling, fun to read & fun to do.......2006-08-18
I really liked this book, let me tell you why.
There's a passage toward the beginning of Dandelion Wine where the protagonist is lying on his back in the forest, squinting at the sun as it squeezed it's way through the leaves above him. It's a simple passage that effectively evoked the carefree afternoons of a young boy - it transports you to your own youth - and thereafter you read the book as if you are Douglas Spaulding. Similarly, by taking you along on his first fishing adventure as a child, Chris Arelt reminds you of the tension you feel when getting caught in a childish prank - you're now in synch with the authors as they walk you through their thirty years of piscatorial exploits.
The stories are fun and have a consistent mischevious bent, which for me, strikes home. When I went fishing as a kid, I was always getting away with something. Maybe I snuck out of the house, or was smoking a cigarette, or well, doing something I wasn't suppose to be up to. The Offbeat Angler captures that spirit, and by doing that, captures the essence of fishing.
There are a lot of fishing guides out there that teach you how to land the big one. They're not for me. It was a hell of a lot more enjoyable to sit back & read some yarns that reminded me why I grew to like fishing to begin with. It was all about being young, having time, breaking rules and getting a breath of nature. The dream was catching that big one, but in reality there were a lot of rewarding afternoons where I can't remember if I even got a bite.
So, in many ways, it was enlightening to read this book. I've got kids of my own now, and when I take them fishing, we'll hop a fence, skid down a hill, and pass a no trespassing sign. Then I'll know they know what fishing can be all about.
Buy this book, you'll be glad you did. I'm keeping an eye out for the sequel.
Inspired Fishing Adventures.......2006-06-18
This book is a delight for anyone who has ever gone fishing, would like to, or simply enjoys good storytelling. Fish tales have often been prone to exaggeration, but these tales carry the ring of truth. The book can be enjoyed as separate and complete short stories, or savored as a whole. The authors have inspired me to pick up a fishing pole and go catch some fish.
Great read and certainly unconventional .......2006-06-13
I have fished with Seb O'Kelly, and this book captures his nature and disposition. He is an expert angler, and his and Chris's interest in pursuing fish in places where most flyfishermen fear to tread is very funny. A delightful read. All anglers should have this in their library.
What a trip!.......2006-06-01
This is a book for all you fishermen out there. For anyone that ever had a favorite fishing hole as a child. And for anyone that would travel through miles of thorns and brush to get to your very own spot that only you knew about. Filled with stories from both childhood and the adult years, this book will make you laugh out loud. Interesting thing is that on occasion you may find yourself laughing, not at the author but, at yourself as you may relate to many of the stories.
So whether you are a fly fisherman, a spin caster, or if you enjoy dunking bait for catfish, there is something for everyone in here.

Customer Reviews:
Worst Map of the Region.......2006-01-06
Claiming to be "the best, most up-to-date source of maps" for the region this is a book by Lonely Planet that holds nothing it promises. I used the Laos and the Thailand maps to bike from the Chinese border at Boten to Bangkok via Luang Namtha, Luang Prabang, Vientiane, Udon Thani and Korat. I found that not a single (!) information regarding distances was right. And they weren't off by a few kilometres but rather by 10 up to 25 km (Udomxai to Pak Mong). Further the maps, especially in Thailand, depict roads to be unpaved where according to local information (and Thai maps) they were paved since more than a few years. The topographic shading is sloppy at best, if not completely incorrect. The mistakes are far beyond the "things change fast" warning published in every Lonely Planet guidebook and signal a further deterioration of quality at Lonely Planet. I strongly advice against buying it, it's just a rip-off!
For the traveler that's NOT off the beaten track.......2001-05-18
For the traveler that intends to leave the beaten path, be aware that this atlas misses off hundreds of villages in between larger towns and cities. After spending four months in Cambodia, Vietnam, and Laos I found this atlas to be dead weight in my pack. However, Lonely Planet publishes an atlas for each individual country, which has more detailed secondary roads, natural features, and remote villages. Moreover, if you do not have the luxury of four months plus at your disposal and you are traveling in these fascinating countries in a rush, this atlas will more than likely meet your needs.
Book Description
How could one simple school play turn Degrassi Junior High upside down and inside out?
Stephanie Kaye, president of the student body, is sure she is going to be the star. Joey Jeremiah, class clown, thinks that if he gets a part in the play, Stephanie will finally notice him. LD has more important things on her mind than the play. No one is prepared for what happens next...and Degrassi Junior High will never be the same again.
Based on the groundbreaking Degrassi Junior High television series, this book offers a sensitive and engaging look at the challenges of teenage life.
Customer Reviews:
Good For Degrassi.......2007-07-26
If you are a fan of Degrassi, the original Canadian teen drama series from the 1980's, then this is a great memento of it. My mom actually snagged me a copy from the local library's giveaway bin and I read it for laughs.
The book takes place in the first season of the show - Junior High - and focuses on a school play Degrassi decides to put on. School President Stephanie Kaye, deciding to refocus her energies on being herself rather than looking trashy, is determined to get the lead role to attract the attention of Wheels once and for all. The twist is Lucy is also pretty interested in acting, especially to keep her social worker off her back.
LD is nervous about her father's behaviour after a near fatal medical condition, and throws herself into the play to stay busy. And Yick is busy doing special effects for the play, but remaining suspiciously nervous about the creation of the ghost for it.
Various teenage melodramas ensue from top to bottom, and while this isn't a particularly original or interesting piece of fiction, Pasnak does an excellent job capturing Degrassi and its characters in the 1980's.
exit stage left.......2004-03-15
This book has the whole gang in it. LD, Stephanie Kaye, Lucy Fernandez, Wheels, Joey Jeremiah, Snake,.. ok you get my drift. The story is about The Degrassi Kids pulling together to make a play a sucess. Rivalries began. Egos explodes. Friends become enemies and love triangles are all around. Will Joey get with Stephanie? Will Stephanie even acknowledge Joey since she wants Wheels? Will Wheels be brave enough to admit he wants Lucy? You'll see it all unravel in the end. Enjoy!
