Instruction Not Focused on Performance Arts.......2007-04-29

I found this book confusing and the title deceiving...the first part is very basic "resumes 101" type content (e.g. difference between a chronological and functional resume, action verbs to use, etc.). The book also uses examples like "Regional Sales Manager" and "corporate litigation" within the content as examples. Wouldn't it be more appropriate to use examples utlizing actors, acting, vocal performance, i.e. performance art examples? There is NOTHING in this content about how performance arts resumes are different from traditional resumes or how to develop performance art resumes. This standard content ends at page 37 and then from page 37 to 119 there are performance arts sample resumes and cover letters. It's like they took a resume writing brochure, added a bunch of performance art resumes to the end and published it - which in fact is exactly what they did.

This book is wonderful. Devin tells us how to write and produce a well crafted resume - sure, but he goes on to tell us how to market ourselves. If you're sending out a resume, attached to the back of your headshot, without reading and taking Devin's well researched advice ... you may be making some big mistakes. This book is well worth the cover price.

I didn't know what to do about my acting resume until a friend gave me this book. It really helped. When I got to Los Angeles I had a picture and resume all ready to go and the first audition I went on the casting director said, "good professional resume," and I didn't really have many credits. It just made me feel better to have read this book and formated my resume the right way!

Highly Enjoyable.......2005-02-21

A fine, interesting and accurate introduction to the Adirondack Mountain region. I read it on vacation along with two other histories,Philip Terrie's Contested Terrain which I found poorly written and lacking focus and Donaldson's A History of the Adirondacks, which is highly entertaining and based on first hand interviews (it was written in the 1920's). There are a few minor errors that the general reader will not notice but her conclusions are sound.

Well written with a lot of information.......2007-09-02

A very comprehensive book for the advanced trap shooter. I could find a lot of useful tips and techniques even if my skil is below proffesional trap shooting. I could not rate it with 5 stars because of the two main tesis, the mental and visualisation issues. I simply do not believe that visualisation is an universal thruth which can be applied by everyone and this should also be valid for the mental part. By definition, since we all are individuals there are no standard solutions but the book is however worth buying!

This is a very practical book, which helps you master the mental game of Trapshooting. As the saying goes, "You have yet to hit your lowest score!" The trigger words are very helpful and keep you on task as you develop your own reperetoire of words; with his tips you enjoy the game in spite of the learning curve. I am seeking my final punch to the back fence; his suggestions have gained me four yards! One final note;the secret to hitting higher scores is to properly adjust the nut behind the recoil pad!

Trapshooter's Bible - Precision Shooting.......2007-02-21

Excellent... Gives you all of the elements to build on for breaking 100. Very detailed, explains how things work and why. I have improved my score at least 25% by following his suggestions. You must practice - he tells you what to do and how. Keep it with you at the range so you can use it as a reference when misses occur...
You should read his other book first.

Must have books for beginners through advanced trap shooters!.......2007-02-20

Anyone wishing to alleviate years of mistakes and truly understand the fundamentals to become a better shooter must buy both of James Russell's books.

I don't know why they still sell it here, but this is an old edition now, and when it comes to guide books - obsolete. Go for the 8th edition which is the newest (as for this date), and which I have extensively reviewed.

Derivative.......2002-08-18

I found the contents highly derivative; moreover, I prefer my guidebooks to be written by specialists in their chosen field. Joe Cummings may be a Thai specialist, but he is no Myanmar expert and, alas, it shows. Not recommended. Readers interested in Burma should try seeking out a copy of a book entitled "Shades of Gold and Green: Anecdotes of Colonial Burmah 1886-1948", which may be available through Amazon.

Fact and fiction........2004-03-11

Reporter Joe Tinker is a sportswriter, when not drinking, sleeping around, or stumbling into crimes scenes, who can get the job done-when he's ready to get to it. The year is 1947, and Joe's latest assignment is to follow and interview Jackie Robinson in Cuba during baseball practice for the Brooklyn Dodgers. Making history as baseball's first black player is making waves around the world, and with all of the hate mail that Jackie has received, it's Joe that stumbles into a racial plot to have the ballplayer assasinated on the field of the first game. The author has blended history with fiction very well, except that the coincidences that led Joe to the murder in the making was very contrived. Pushing that to the side, it wasn't so much a mystery as it was slightly lopsided action novel with a better view of how hate can manifest itself to take over one's life. Pretty good.
