This book breaks up each theory and explains it to you directly. It doesn't throw you off with tangents, like some other textbooks do. Moses & Klein try to take into consideration where the student is coming from, i.e. how much you already know and how much you need to know.

Good information is included in this book but it is no walk in the park to glean the knowledge from it. There are better books in print that do the same thing with a lot less confusion on the part of the reader.

book lingo at upper grad level but information for undergrad.......2000-11-30

I used this book as a student because my teacher required it but the whole class had trouble deciphering what was said in the core of this book. As a result the grades for the class was lowered substantially. This book was written for undergraduate students before they start clinic but the terms found in this book are really what only a graduate post-graduate would understand. If you are looking for a book that will help in clarifying goal steps and procedures I admantly do not recommend this one, it will only confuse you more just like it did the rest of my peers.

My teacher has many Seymour Simon books in the classroom and all of them are great. I am a fifth grader, and a good reader of fiction but nonfiction has always been a struggle for me. But this book, and others by the same author, have kept me interested. I've learned a lot and I wish we could use these books instead of textbooks.

My 5 year old absolutely loves all of the books he has by Mr. Simon.

The pictures are outstanding and the wording is such, even he can understand, and grasp the concept Mr. Simon is trying to get across, as we read it to him. He is even now, picking up these books, and reading them himself, as best he can.

Any author that can capture and keep your child's attention and spur them on to learn more and inspire their desire to read, deserves nothing but the highest score. I regret I can only go as high as five, on rating this item and author.

The kind of book you can't put down........1999-09-30

I thoroughly enjoyed the account of Warner's adventures. His humorous stories, often poking fun at himself, pull the reader in. I found myself wishing I was exploring with him and his companions from the hot, dry desert to the Pacific islands. Warner ends each chapter with educational information that is often too long or overdone. I confess that I skipped over some of that in the second half of the book. I was disappointed at the end when Warner explained some of the adventures were not altogether accurate (eg. a fellow student is a "composite" ) and he relied on the memories of others in some cases where he couldn't remember. I guess that's just what old age does to all of us. Nevertheless, I HIGHLY recommend the book.

This book gives great information and is very helpful to anyone looking to do any kind of training for sports or even for general conditioning very good workouts and drills to work on all levels of athleticism as well the book works on all aspects of being good at a sport. The drills and workouts given are phenomenal and are very straight forward. Plus it gives sport specific programs, written by experts. For example: the strength and conditioning for the Seattle Seahawks wrote the program and exercises for Football. The information is great and is very effective in improving performance in a sport.

This book is perfect for the student searching for a cheaper way to attend
college. The author presents various funding supplements. i.e.
o merit-based factors in applications
o HOPE Scholarships
o tax credits
o private sponsors
o essay writing

By far, the college work-study program is perhaps the largest funding
source. Hundreds of positions have been created to assist colleges in
running educational supplemental activities. i.e. labs, computers, the
library, premises management and a plethora of activities too numerous
to list here.

The author shows how to write a model financial aid/scholarship essay
to include the following:
o personal information and verifiable accomplishments/stories
o growth experiences
o detailed knowledge on subjects of interest

The rendition would be helpful as a guide to anyone preparing to enter
college.

Experts Opinion.......2007-05-18

As a college planning professional I love Ben's book and speaking engagements. For just several dollars this book breaks down how to apply for merit scholarships. I have used the principles in this book with success, however have found it tougher going as of late.

I read from one post a true statement that Ben was very bright and probably top 1% on his SAT, which I agree. However for almost no cost yet lot's of time, you can save money on college utilizing scholarships. Maybe not a free ride to Harvard, however perhaps $3,000 to $7,000.

I would also emphasize local organization (Chamber, Rotary, etc.), local churches, and corporations can be excellent sources with less competition. Tuition discounts for students that apply to colleges, which they are usually in the top 25% of the student population SAT scores at that college is an excellent strategy that can easily save thousands.

How to Go to College Almost for Free is a wonderful book, well-organized and easy to read. It's been a great help with college and scholarship applications.

$90,000 and admission to Harvard.......2007-01-12

The author earned $90,000 in scholarship earnings. It seems to reasonable that the author scored in the top 1 percent of his ACT and SAT scores which he fails to disclose. The guy was a brain. The author didn't spent large amounts of time on his scholar quest, but did apply for many prestigous merit scholarships. A fact that I liked about him because he demonstrated a williness to distinquish himself and high aspirations for merit. The theme could be "How I went to Harvard and was accepted; earned a degree in economics program; and a financial fortune coaching/mentor/cheerleading other people into similar tactics to get scholarship money.

On the other hand, the author does highlight a number of online resources to use for apply to scholarships like fastweb and scholarexperts. These online resources are convenient.

The book does not talk technically about grants, loans, and federal aid. The book does provide some helpful suggestions about preparing for essays, saving money, taxes, and scholarships of merit.

This is a fun book to read, but it is not a silver spoon to college.

Totally Free Is Even Better.......2006-03-14

Ben Kaplan's book is great. I recommend it to all my students who are looking for financial help. I also tell my students to run by the possibility of the totally free college, West Point. You can learn about the significance of West Point to America by reading Norman Thomas Remick's, "West Point: Character Leadership Education..".
