Trypanosomiasis, a parasitic disease transmitted cyclically by the tsetse fly (Glossina spp.), is arguably still the main constraint to livestock production in Africa. Correct aim, poorly executed.......2004-05-07

Being a hack golfer I'm open to anything that will help my game. Although I do stretch prior to every game, I was doing only the stretches I was familiar with from years of playing raquetball and suspected I was missing some key stretches for pre- and post golf. In other words, I know I could do a better job.

This book could have been so much better! It's not awful, but the one star is awarded because it pales in comparison to other tomes available.

This is just a book with a marketing angle. To borrow from another local sport: I took the bait, they set the hook. Golf? Stretching? That's me! (This is a good time to give me that dope-slap.)

I either didn't understand the instructions or it's not a 10 minute a day program. The first time I attempted the program it took me 45 minutes to complete...I was definitely stretched out but I was also quite short on time. I can't devote that much time every day to a stretching regimen. It's possible that I was suppose to go through several of the exercises faster than I did. If that was the case, I don't think I'd get the benefit of the stretch.

After purchasing this book, I put more focus on finding a good book on stretching for golf. I found it. Get Bob Anderson's "Stretching". The book is well written, concise, and clear. (Time for another dope slap: It's considered the best on the market.) Plus, there are clearly described stretching programs for almost every atheletic endeavor...from bowling to football to windsurfing.

I wish I hadn't wasted my money on "Golf Flex", but at least it was cheap.

Weak impression.......2004-02-19

I am far from being the most athletic person in the world. This was one of the reasons I became interested in fitness for golfers. I do, however, know how to set up a regular stretching routine from high school gym classes, and found little new here to add to the exercises I already knew.

Where this book will offer a range of ways to get going for the person who has no memory of gym class, most of the routines here are pretty much common knowledge. It may make a good reference for the variety of stretching routines that exist, though, meaning that anyone who buys the book will get their investment back in some fashion. If you are looking to get more out of your dollar, look into a more general book on fitness and exercise. It may not have golf in the title, but the aim will be the same: producing a looser and more fit body.

Lacks a routine.......2003-12-18

Though this book does contain a comprehensive list of stretches, it lacks a solid routine for their use. The author states that you can improve your game in 10 minutes a day, but it would take quite a bit longer than that to complete the 30+ exercises. The only routine offered does not incorporate the exercises into a daily routine.

Not impressed.......2003-11-12

I was looking for a stretching program geared specifically to golfers, intead I found a set of stretches and conditioning exercises that were really not very useful to an athletic 30 year old.
This book is great if you don't go to a gym, have never stretched, and are in really poor shape.
However if you are active, fit, do some weight training and know about basic stretching (and I mean basic) then save your $$, e.g. there are examples of exercises using soup tins for your deltoids etc ... obviously this has not been written for the better golfer, or the fit golfer, but instead for the very unfit golfer.
I was hoping for something that would help me push the envelope -this book is certainly not it.

Get This Book And Start Using It Now!.......2002-10-07

If you want to hit the golf ball further (and who doesn't!) you need to do flexibility exercises on a regular basis, every body knows that, right? But what exercises should you do? Well, this Golf Flex book details the exact exercises you should do and shows you (with clear pictures) along with simple and clear instructions how you should do each stretch to get the best results for your golf game.

I've started using this program and I'm already hitting the ball longer as well as feeling better physically and mentally. I highly recommend that any golfer who want's to make golf easier and more fun get this book and start using it. This book will not do anything for you unless you follow the advice but if you do, watch out - your golf shots will travel further and your golf swings will be easier.

I did have a few questions about this book so I emailed Paul and was almost shocked to not only get a response back but the responses to my questions were detailed and well thought out.

Get this book today and as soon as you get it start doing the program because the older you get the less flexible you will become UNLESS you do some regular stretching program!

Classic Writing on Writing.......2007-08-26

This is the 30th anniversary edition of Zinsser's classic book on writing that should be reprinted as long as people are writing in the English language. Parts I, II and IV are a primer on how to write well. Along with Strunk and White's The Elements of Style, Zinsser's three sections say all there is to say on writing nonfiction--read it, understand it and review it often. He also writes in a personal, encouraging style. For example, he tells the reader that even for him, writing is hard work. That is a clue on what it takes to write well and a message to anyone struggling with an article, school paper, report or any other written product--even the pros write, rewrite and rewrite. Section III is a manual on writing specific types of products--business, interviews, travel, sports, etc. If you want to write, buy this book and don't leave Amazon until you buy Strunk and White too. With these two books, you never need to read another how-to book on writing.

The Mechanics of Writing Well.......2007-07-29

The most important part of the presentation is the first sentence
because it captures the readers' interest. Subsequent sentences must
build upon the original sentence until it's time for a conclusion.
In science, writing must be clear and robust with a minimum of
complexity or undefined/unfathomable terms. The author provides
good examples of his major thesis in the unfolding presentation.
The text is easy to read and apply.

One of the best general writing books out there.......2007-07-28

This was the first book I ever bought on writing, and I credit it with jump-starting my career as a copywriter. Whether you're a copywriter, novelist, or just enjoy writing this book will help you polish up your prose and get you well on your way to becoming the kind of writer who can hook people in from the word go. And best of all, despite the bland sounding title, it's actually a great read. Zinser has a way with words that stays with you and makes everything you write a little bit better.

The Very Best.......2007-07-17

More than 20 years ago I took a college English course that used On Writing Well. Back then I considered it the very best writing book I'd ever seen and I still do today. As a Journalism/English major and professional writer, I've seen plenty others but none compare. I think it's fantastic in its coaching, mentoring and exemplary writing. I recently bought the 30th Anniversary Edition and am glad to be renewing my acquaintance with this superlative guide. Thank you, Mr. Zinsser!

A Wolf In The Fold - A Ralph Compton Book By David Robbins Genre: Western

I don't usually enjoy books written in a first person point of view but this one has changed my mind about that because it was so damn good!!. Lucius Stark is a Regulator, an assassin for hire for the princely sum of $[...] and rancher Gertrude Tanner has the dollars to hire him. His targets are the Butcher family who according to Tanner have been rustling her cattle. What follows is the tale of a ruthless killer who has a change of heart when a young girl reaches his but then tragedy hits and all hell breaks loose as Stark gains revenge. This was a terrific read with great characters, an excellent story with lots of twists, turns and suprises with loads of action, fantastic dialogue, chapters with cliffhanger endings and more. I found Stark a fascinating character even if he was so totally ruthless and in a lot of ways Gertrude Tanner was just like him, two sides of the same coin I suppose.

If you want a Western with a great story with loads of action you can't do better than this book, Highly recommended.

Spies, Freaks and Murderers.......2003-12-02

This is the fourth book in the Hawk and Fisher series. This one begins to show more of Hawk and Fisher's pre-Haven history.

The story opens with Hawk and Fisher trailing a spy. But the spy gets away and holes up in a tower belonging to the Quality (the Aristocracy). The two guard captains must go undercover and pose as distant relatives in order to locate the spy. Unfortunately posing as a member of the Quality is punishable by death and headquarters will not back them up if they are found out.

While trying not to blow their cover, the two infiltrate the tower where a new lord is taking command. Unfortunately a dead body turns up and everyone learns that there is an undying Freak locked up somewhere in the tower.

Tensions rise and Hawk and Fisher have three tasks; try not to be discovered, find the spy, and try to stop the Freak before it kills everyone.

Another fine mystery in a fantasy setting. This really is a strong series and better written than just a mere Swords & Sorcery tale. Check it out.

The conceit of the Four Lords of the Diamond Series is that the Earth (and corresponding colonies) are ruled by a society which has everything regimented and controlled. Malcontents and criminals are sent to a planetary system infested by a virus which has different forms on each of the four planets, but which has in common on all that you cannot live without the virus in your system once you have been exposed.

In this second book, an agent is sent to assassinate the Lord of the second planet, Cerberus. On Cerberus, you can change bodies with others at will.

Like virtually every other Chalker book and series, the Four Lords series is concerned with issues of gender, sexuality and identity. In this book it is not irritating nor distracting from the plot. This is one of Chalker's better outings, I believe.

This book is #2 of the series I recommend that you read them in order (at least the first an last book) The series are amazing and this book is very good

Rather disappointing after Lilith.......2000-07-05

This is the second book in the Lords of the Diamond series. You must have read the first volume (Lilith, the Snake in the Grass) in order to understand what it's all about.

If, after Lilith, you think you know quite well what the Warden Diamond's alike, you are mistaken. The physics of Cerberus is completely different from Lilith's. Perhaps it's even more obscure (Lilith somehow made more sense to me). Anyway, our friend is out there with a different face, yet with the same mission, and you're in for some real surprises.

I'm sorry to say that the book is by far not as good as Lilith (which is one of my all-time favorites). Still, it's a series worth reading. It is imperative to read the books in the correct order (Lilith, Cerberus, Charon, Medusa), otherwise you'll be very confused and miss most of the enjoyment.

This is a great Sci-Fi/Fantasy mix. The main character is dumped on a world blind, naked, and alone with the job of assinating the lord of Cerebrus. The plot is interesting with many twists and turns and keeps you reading all the way! This is a great book!
