To extend the teaching materials of Cost Management, 4e, this casebook provides additional cases and articles for each chapter, with the same teaching objectives as the text material. The longer cases found in this supplement help to facilitate more extensive discussion and analysis by students. The articles cover real world situations and have accompanying discussion questions. The overall purpose of the casebook is to help students develop analytical skills by organizing unstructured information in a case, devise appropriate analyses and draw appropriate conclusions. The articles provide examples of how actual firms have implemented cost management methods explained in the chapter, as well as show a perspective of how cost management methods are used in practice and the effects of using these methods.

To All Readers of the Posted Comment regarding Cost Management: A Strategic Emphasis--the posted comment refers to the 2nd Edition of this text. The most recent edition, of which I am now a coauthor, is the 4th edition, which carries a 2008 copyright date. The latest edition of the text is materially different from the previous editions. Please keep these points in mind as you consider the latest edition of the text. Thank you.

Good for managers bad for students.......2003-07-29
I bought this book to help me studying for my part 3 CMA exam.
The reason I removed the fifth star from my rating is:
First : It does not have enough questions, or questions are irrelevant to the ones you get in a CMA exam. Besides, there are no answers given to help you evaluate your self.
Second: Though it has a good website for student support ... some main chapters are still under construction!!
My Conclusion is that If you are a manager, you will find this book very helpful more than any other book but if you are a student you better use another text book like Horngren .

Green Line for hope.......2000-04-22
I bought Thin Green Line after hearing it rate an excellent on a review over Voice Of America and I wasn't disappointed. To me its a useful work and inspiration in my struggle in Formosa to keep the mountains from being cashed in by speculators, banks, and developers. And, although it focuses on American law and strategy, one can draw useful examples from it no matter where one lives.

This book contains the invited talks from the 1995 Boulder conference on the Search for Extra-Solar Planets. It describes the scientific basis, technological options, and programmatic implications of large-scale efforts to find and study Earth-like planets outside the Solar System, and is targeted at astronomers, planetary scientists, engineers, and graduate students. These are among the first papers in this rapidly expanding field, driven by the first discoveries of planetary companions to nearby stars and providing the current status of the search for extra-solar planets. What sort of objects are we looking for in planetary atmospheres and planetary-system architectures? What techniques are currently feasible, both from the ground and in space? How can interferometers be optimized to discern faint planets in the glare of their parent stars? The detection and study of Earth-like planets outside our Solar System will be one of the great scientific, technological, and philosophical events of our time, affecting our understanding of the Universe and the place of life within it.

So far all the Speed Secrets books have been intended for the driver, but in this book Ross Bentley makes a case for applying the Speed Secrets principles to coaching. This book is written for anyone who wants to help a driver succeed, and like the previous SS books, it's very clearly written and has lots of practical strategies for helping a driver be a faster, more consistent racer. It's good information for a parent or team owner who wants a driver to do better but doesn't know exactly how to go about it.

Grand Slam.......2007-05-27
For the college bound and everyone else, this concise, well-written primer
holds the potential of dramatically improving your writing skills. Writing
with humor, common sense, economy of language, and a wonderfully entertaining
selection of illustrative essays, Harry has gone a long way to help us reach
that goal. This book by itself of course isn't getting anyone into college
with the possible exception of Harry Bauld. Harry can have his pick, though
I don't imagine returning to college offers much allure for a former athlete
who's lost a step and can no longer bend his unforgiving back.
Harry has done several tours in University Admissions and knows whereof he
speaks: The personal essay is how you tell them who you are, how you distinguish
yourself from the ever-multiplying hordes. When your future at the University
of Choice is being weighed, another asset in the plus column couldn't hurt. I
originally bought the book for my college-bound daughter, read it, loved it,
and in a few weeks will be substituting for Harry (I am also bauld) at a family
seminar in our kitchen. At this juncture my wife and I seem much more interested
than our daughter.

One of the Best of its Type.......2005-08-31
I teach high school juniors, and we have a unit on writing the college admissions essay. This is one of the best on the subject that I've read. It is short, which will appeal to the teenage reader, and it is humorous, which appealed to me and, I am sure, will appeal to them. My daughter, who is in the midst of writing the application essay, read the book. To me, that is high praise. I recommend it.
NOT FOR GRAD SCHOOL APPS.......2005-02-22
I cannot comment on the utility of this book for applying to undergraduate schools. It may be fabulous. The author does use humor and lots of examples to help. However, I was applying to graduate school, and the essay style is completely different (at least it was for all of my applications).
The graduate essay requires a wealth of specific information to be included. Specific, biographical information including past jobs and relevant experiences. This book discourages such broad essays - the very ones required by most graduate programs (at least in psychology). For grad school applicants, I recommend "How to Write a Winning Personal Statement for Graduate and Professional School" by Richard Stelzer. Not only is it thought-provoking and well written, it includes sections for specific programs (medical, law, business, etc.)
Brilliant and inspiring.......2004-09-21
This is not only the best book on writing the college application essay, but one of the best books about writing, period. With amazingly fresh and funny examples throughout, it shows how bored admissions officers are by the pompous, self-congratulatory essays that students often think they're supposed to write--and how those students can do much, much better. It literally changed my daughter's life, not only because she got into the very competitive college of her choice, but because she now is a sharper, more interesting writer.
