Quickly covers the basics.......2001-04-13
This book is a good overview of what is needed to effectively train staff. It covers everything from adult learning to evaluating programs. It doesn't offer depth on any topic, but if someone needs to learn about training quickly and easily than this is an excellent source.

Photos Lacking.......2007-03-15
This book is a typical course book. It is good in that it has a lots of information that one needs to learn about the flower industry. It has step by step instructions on how to design arrangements and gives you a view of the industry and how to find a job to running your own shop. What I do not like about it is the BLACK AND WHITE PHOTOS. 99% of the photos are black and white. And, though the copyright is 2002, many of the photos look like they are from the 1960s-80s. I think for the price, the photos should have been updated for better visual effect.

Book Description
This look at the benefits of sunlight looks at how the sun can prevent and cure diseases, as well as help us in the future.
Customer Reviews:
The Healing Sun.......2007-10-01
Vitamin D is the hottest vitamin at the moment and the best way to get it is naturally under our infamous sun. The author very credibly explains away the media demonization of solar radiation and makes one feel secure in getting out in the sun again.
Valuable Information YOU NEED TO KNOW!.......2007-09-23
I have always known the sun was my friend. I never cowered to the medical fanatics who warn against allowing sunshine to touch my skin. Now I finally found a book that reveals the studies to prove that not only is the sun NOT the evil monster in the sky, but indeed it's warming rays are extremely important to the health and well-being of humans on earth. Read how it appears that sunshine can convert a substance called squalene (which would otherwise turn to cholesterol) to much needed vitamin D when skin is exposed to sunlight and thus lower blood pressure, lower cholesterol, strengthen bones and even help in lowering incidents of various diseases (cancer, heart disease and more). This book also tells us why we should be very skeptical of sunscreens. This little book is packed with critical information and the studies to back it up. I even bought a second book to give to my parents who live in Florida but never allow the sunlight to touch their bodies. Both of them suffer from high blood pressure and too much cholesterol, and mom has already broken a hip.
Good overview.......2007-02-09
Well written explanation of benefits of sunlight - as opposed to the ridiculous paranoia emanating from the "slip, slop, slap" brigade. My only reservation was that there wasn't enough discussion on the "practicalities" - eg. how long? at what time of day? etc
The Truth About Sunlight.......2006-11-14
Many ancient cultures worshipped the sun, which is understandable given the healing power it contains. While I don't worship the sun, but rather it's Creator, I am truly grateful for the healing power it contains. For years sunlight has been put down as unhealthy by the mainline medical establishment. In his well researched, most imterestingly written book, "The Healing Sun," Richard Hobday not only gives you the history of sunlight theraphy, but also the facts concerning the health benfefits of sunlight.
Did you know that:
-Sunlight can prevent and heal many common and often fatal diseases like breast cancer, heart disease, multiple sclerosis, and osteoporosis?
-Before antibiotics, sunlight was used successfully to spped up helaing of wounds?
-Prolonged exposure to artifical light puts the body under great stress?
-Early morning sunlight in cool temperatures is especially benificial to the body?
Read this well written, informative book for the details concerning all these facts and much more.
The Healing Sun.......2006-07-03
This book provides some balance to the healing properties of the sun. More and more research is showing that the sun is not all bad. I want to be able to use the sun to help my body do its job much better. Your service was tops.

Excellent!.......2007-03-19
Thank you Dr. Sorenson for writing the book Solar Power. It is excellent! I have the books of Dr. Kime, Hobday, Holick and Ott but your book is the best because it is based on so many scientific research.
The Definitive Book on Vitamin D and Sunshine.......2007-02-10
We live in a time when most people spend a great deal of time indoors and consume only limited quantities of Vitamin D. Vitamin D is produced by sunlight falling upon your skin. As a result there is an epidemic of Vitamin D deficiency in America that is having a major impact upon our health. This results in billions of dollars of medical costs and untold suffering.
Solar Power for Optimal Health may help you make significant improvements in your health. It will explain why the RDA for Vitamin D is obsolete and give you information about determining your need using a medical test. It is written in a clear and easy to understand style with a summary at the end of each chapter. It presents an analysis of the science and studies about Vitamin D that is more extensive and up to date than any other source I know of.
Over the years I have tried thousands of nutritional supplements and there are only a handful that have a profound effect on health. Taking Vitamin D in adequate amounts is one of them. I personally need 5000 IU a day which is over 10 times the RDA just to score in the middle of the normal range on a vitamin D blood test. This book will explain exactly how health is effected by sunlight and Vitamin D and help you move in the direction of optimal health.

Book Description
Summary This science-based book is the first to demonstrate that insufficient access to the sun's ultraviolet-B (UV-B) irradiance, necessary for photosynthesis of vitamin D, increases the risk of progression in prostate cancer. At least 80 per cent of our major circulating reservoir of the vitamin, 25-hydroxyvitamin D, is produced by casual exposure of unprotected skin to solar UV-B. The remainder is obtained from foods and supplements. The author looks at five of the many populations characterized by elevated death rates from prostate cancer: African-North Americans, Norwegians, Swedes, Swiss, and Danes. He shows that insufficient photosynthesis is common to them all and describes the causative circumstances in each instance. An in-depth review of the literature revealed that a substantial increase in the daily supply of vitamin D recommended for adult North Americans is urgently needed. Importantly, it showed that an increase of the magnitude envisaged would fall well within the range of values necessary for combining safety and efficacy. The following examples illustrate the scope and tenor of the book: · Evidence that calcitriol, a steroid hormone metabolized from 25-hydroxyvitamin D, inhibits proliferation of prostate cancer cells, as well as regulating the supply of calcium to bones and other organs. · The capacity of calcitriol to induce cell cycle arrest (apoptosis) and decrease the harmfulness of insulin-like growth factors (IGF), known to be implicated in cancers of the prostate, the breast, and the colon. · The significance of the term "gene-expression switch," considered in the light of the ability of calcitriol and its receptor to modulate the transcription of numerous genes within the nuclei of cells. · Provided that two prerequisites are met, the ability of the prostate to produce calcitriol within its cells. · Details of an actual case of vitamin D toxicity after long-term mega-dosing with a

Product Description
In 1851, Jakob Lorber recorded methods by which we can heal our soul which in turn heals our body. The Healing Power of Sunlight shows us the path to achieve eternal health, in the physical world and in the after-life. Today his writings are more important than ever, because of the ailments that threaten humankind with ever-increasing force. These ailments are due to an over-abundance of technical innovation, to the hardships and struggles of everday life, and to nourishment which is not fit for human consumption. The connection with the source of Nature has been almost completely lost; nor is it surprising that orthodox medicine has followed the path of "modern science" and attempted to substitute thousands of chemical preparations. Since the 3 major sun remedies (the lactose pellets, the sea salt, the sulpur salt) are universal in their nature, they apply to a fairly broad spectrum of ailments, whereas the other sun remedies are more specific.

Abbreviated Assessment of Three Moving Map Displays for the UH-60 Helicopter
Manufacturer: Storming Media
ProductGroup: Book
Binding: Spiral-bound
ASIN: 1423532120 |
Product Description
This is a ARMY RESEARCH LAB ABERDEEN PROVING GROUND MD HUMAN RESEARCH AND ENGINEERINGDIRECTORATE report procured by the Pentagon and made available for public release. It has been reproduced in the best form available to the Pentagon. It is not spiral-bound, but rather assembled with Velobinding in a soft, white linen cover. The Storming Media report number is A578683. The abstract provided by the Pentagon follows: An assessment of three moving map display systems was conducted to support modernization of the UH-60 helicopter. The systems included the Peregrine digital map, Applique' V2 computer and Force XXI Battle Command- Brigade and Below (FBCB2) software, and the Primary Selectable Mission Support System (PRISMS22). The assessment was based on subjective ratings by Army pilots regarding the impact of the moving map displays on aircrew workload and situational awareness when these displays are used in the cockpit for pilotage, navigation, and mission tasks. The pilots also assessed the hardware and software usability characteristics of the displays. Results indicate that each system has potential for enhancing situational awareness and minimizing workload for UH-60 pilots. However, significant improvements in the hardware and software interface of the Applique-FBCB2 and Peregrine digital map would need to occur before they would be suitable for use in the UH-60 cockpit. Improvements in the hardware and software interface of the PRISMS22 would enhance its usability in the cockpit. Each of the systems would also need to be fully interoperable with the Aviation Mission Planning System.

The Liver and Gallbladder Miracle Cleanse: An All-Natural, At-Home Flush to Purify and Rejuvenate Your Body
ASIN: 0979275733 |
Book Description
This book by Andreas Moritz provides scientific evidence that sunlight is essential for good health, and that a lack of sun exposure can be held responsible for many of today's diseases. On the other hand, most people now believe that the sun is the main culprit for causing skin cancer, certain cataracts leading to blindness, and aging. Only those who take the "risk" of exposing themselves to the sunlight, find that the sun makes them feel and look better, provided they don't use sunscreens or burn their skin. The UV-rays in sunlight actually stimulate the thyroid gland to increase hormone production, which in turn increases the body's basal metabolic rate. This assists both in weight loss and improved muscle development. It has been known for several decades that those living mostly in the outdoors, at high altitudes, or near the equator, have the lowest incidence of skin cancers. In addition, Studies revealed that exposing patients to controlled amounts of sunlight dramatically lowered elevated blood pressure (up to 40 mm Hg drop), decreased cholesterol in the blood stream, lowered abnormally high blood sugars among diabetics, and increased the number of white blood cells which we need to help resist disease. Patients suffering from gout, rheumatoid arthritis, colitis, arteriosclerosis, anemia, cystitis, eczema, acne, psoriasis, herpes, lupus, sciatica, kidney problems, asthma, as well as burns, have all shown to receive great benefit from the healing rays of the sun.

Product Description
Henry Beston, whose Outermost House is generally considered an imperishable classic of nature writing, was a poet who just happened to write prose. He was a meticulous observer, an early (and unsung) conservationist, and a prolific writer of letters, essays, and poetry, as well as books. Here, selected by his wife, Elizabeth Coatsworth (no mean writer herself), is a selection of his best from The Outermost House to lengthy pieces from Northern Farm, Herbs and the Earth, and American Memory (one of the first studies to give the proper perspective on the role of the American Indian). The last section, "North of Maine," contains portions of The St. Lawrence, one of the most memorable of the "Rivers of America" series. Beston was as close as this past century came to Henry David Thoreau. Anyone involved with nature, its protection and its celebration, should know his work.

Book Description
Introducing Evolution takes a fresh look at the often misunderstoof concepts of natural selection and the selfish gene. Drawing on the latest findings from genetics, ecology and animal behavior a string of examples reveals how the evidence in favor of evolutionary theory is stronger than ever.
Customer Reviews:
Kind of reminded me of HS biology class.......2007-06-14
Not a lot to say about this one. Some good information and an easy read, but really didn't tell me a whole lot about Evolution I didn't already know from HS biology.
One of the Best book on Evolution.......2006-02-24
This is one of the best books I have read on evolution. I bought the book day before yesterday, and believe me - I finished it in one sitting; I literally glued. If I could I would have given the book 6 star.
What I liked most of this book was the author covered philosophical aspects of theory of evolution and cutting edge theories concerning evolutionary psychology, evolution of culture, altruism and moral sentiments or even evolutionary robotics in addition to provide a basic idea on biological evolution. He quite convincingly established why Darwin's idea (evolution through natural selection) can be compared as "Universal Acid" (proposed by Daniel Dennett) and how Drwin's "dangerous idea" literally pushes Willium Paley's God literally out of window. I know many will be uncomfortable with the bold approach of the author, (just as one of the previous reviewer who gave one star) but hey - accept the reality! We can indeed explain our existence and complexities in living things by the theory of natural selection! Laplace truly uttered, we do not need that (God) hypothesis (anymore)!!!!
I basically agree with Steven Weinberg (American elementary particle physicist; Nobel Laureate of 1979) who said, Biological Evolution refutes the idea of an interested God much more decisively than physics does. And this is only because of Darwin and his Universal Acid - theory of evolution thru natural selection.
Novice readers, who have not started reading evolution yet, can try this. This book will be real fun to read. Bonus is Howard Selina's excellent artworks.
Excellent Primer for pre teens.......2005-05-24
(...)
This book is a primer for the youngster of about 10 to 16. It is written with illustrations on every page making it a lot like a comic book. It is very well done and detailed and this reviewer suspects it would be appealing to a young crowd who has an interest is science. It appears that it may also inspire and interest in science. The explanation of how evolution works and how integral to science this theory is, becomes the strong point of the book.
The fact that the authors proclaim that once evolution and natural selection is understood, the reader would have to abandon all religious thoughts. While that seems obvious to me it may imperil this book from a wider audience. Given that there are many people who understand and support the theory of evolution and maintain religious idealogy simultaneously I think the book may limit its audience to the "choir".
A better book would explain the theory, the obvious conclusions that sensible people see as a result of that theory and let the reader (student) decide for themselves whether this requires or negates a supreme being.
Tries to prove evolution and disprove God but fails at both........2005-03-12
`Introducing Evolution' is an embarrassment to pro-evolution literature. The book gives a rough guide to what the theory of evolution states but does not back any of its statements up with evidence. The author's (who is not a scientist) line of thinking is that the theory of evolution is believed by most scientists therefore it is correct. Lay people do not need to see the `evidence' but should just accept it because Richard Dawkins and others say that it is correct. If you are looking for a book that gives evidence for evolution then this is not for you.
Of course, the book is full of anti-Creationist comments. A few pages are devoted to attacking Creation Science where it informs us that it is religious dogma dressed up as science. The book informs the reader that the only tactic Creationists use is pick holes in the fossil record (not true of course). The book informs the reader that there are plenty of transitional fossils without even mentioning one. The book then gets onto the subject of teaching evolution in Kansas and that is when the authors truly shows his `research' skills. The author claims that the theory of evolution was banned from being taught in schools in the state of Kansas. This is completely false. The state board of education in Kansas decided that they were not going to test children at a state level on evolution. The theory of evolution was still to be taught but school board could decide if they wanted to test children. What the author stated was wrong. At best it can be seen as sloppy research and at worst it can be seen as deliberately lying to support his views. The author ends that particularly chapter by saying `the battle between science and superstition continues' showing his dislike for religion in general.
What is even more disturbing is the obvious atheistic bias throughout the book. The author claims that Natural Selection proves that God does not exist. A few quotes from the militant atheist Richard Dawkins are used to back this up. As this is supposed to be a book to `introduce evolution' to the average person who knows little about the subject, it is disturbing that the author tries to persuade people that evolution is a fact that disproves the idea of God.
Overall, this book is atrocious. Both evolutionist and the undecided should avoid wasting their money on this book.

Book Description
This volume marks a new approach to a seminal work of the new modern scientific imagination. Darwin's central theory of natural selection neither originated nor could be contained within the natural sciences, but continues to shape and challenge our most basic assumptions about human social and political life. Seven readings, crossing the fields of history, literature, sociology, anthropology and the history of science, demonstate the complex position of the text within the cultural debates past and present.

Book Description
The eight essays in this volume all deal with the home region of their author; for not only did Mr. Burroughs begin life in the Catskills, and dwell among them until early manhood, but, as he himself declares, he has never taken root anywhere else. Their delectable heights and valleys have engaged his deepest affections as far as locality is concerned, and however widely he journeys and whatever charms he discovers in nature elsewhere, still the loveliness of those pastoral boyhood uplands is unsurpassed.
The ancestral farm is in Roxbury among the western Catskills, where the mountains are comparatively gentle in type and always graceful in contour. Cultivated fields and sunny pastures cling to their mighty slopes far up toward the summits, there are patches of woodland including frequent groves of sugar maples, and there are apple orchards and winding roadways, and endless lines of rude stone fences, and scattered dwellings. In every hollow runs a clear trout brook, with its pools and swift shallows and silvery falls. Birds and other wild creatures abound; for the stone earth and the ledges that crop out along the hillsides, the thickets and forest patches, the sheltered glens and windy heights offer great variety in domicile to animal life.
That the Catskills have proved an inspiration to Mr. Burroughs cannot be doubted. Possibly we should never have had him as a nature writer at all, had he spent his impressible youthful years in a less favored locality.
About the Author
John Burroughs was one of the earliest and most articulate pioneers of the United States conservation movement, publishing twenty-eight books on the natural world during the height of the Industrial Revolution. As an author, teacher, and poet, he wrote with intimacy and feeling, illustrating verbal landscapes and providing philosophical insights about the environment. People by the hundreds of thousands relished his writings. His friends included Walt Whitman, Theodore Roosevelt, Thomas Edison, and John Muir. Burroughs was dedicated to studying the world and making nature come to life on the written page.
In the last decades of the 19th century, his prolific nature essays helped spawn the Nature Study movement and made him an international celebrity.

Customer Reviews:
Not for the best to start off with.......2007-08-11
The book is strange. It's written for beginners but they use a lot of jargon that beginners don't know. Also, while they do their best, there is a lot of things that they talk about but don't show pictures for. It's really difficult to learn about any technique when there are not pictures for half of the topics they discuss.
Best Newbie Climbing Book Available.......2007-08-02
This book has it all. If you are just getting into climbing (or trying to refresh your skills), look no further. John Long details the knots, gear and know-how to get your feet off the ground!

Perfect Book.......2005-07-20
This book has all of the information that you wished people would have told you over the years. Well written, fun to read, and extremely useful for techincal information.
How to Rock Climb!.......2002-07-03
I'm a beginner at rock climbing and reading this book for instructional purposes. While it does a good job of explaining fundamentals I have found certain sections difficult to follow - often times different moves will be referecned before the section that explains them (sometimes with a referencing page, sometimes without). I also found it poorly edited in some spots - mis-refenced pages, paragraphs seemingly in wrong order (ie. pg 62 claims there is a "taping" illustration on pg 60, it is clearly on pg 63; the last and second to last paragraphs on page 63 seem to be flip flopped).

Book Description
You only get one chance - or do you? Traumatized by failing to prevent devastating school violence, a boy is cursed and blessed to relive that day. But his second chance involves terrifying risks. This roller coaster story is also a masterfully written snapshot of teen life in a media-driven society. Based on events all too horrifyingly familiar. If you had the chance to relive a day to stop an incident of high school violence, would you? And what, exactly, would you be getting yourself into? Rego (like we go), had that choice. Or so he says. Rego sits in jail, overwhelmed with shock and guilt. He claims he wasnt involved in the violence. Hell tell you his story. He claims itll be the unwashed truth. The truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. So help me, please. But no one can help Rego, unless he can help himself.
Customer Reviews:
Writers Notes 2004 Book Award Winner.......2005-04-28
Favole tackles the difficult terrain of a high school shooting incident. Rego is a close friend of the shooter and a kid in deep trouble. He's stuck, forced to relive the worst day of his life, via a wormhole in time, until he unravels the situation and a series of mixed emotions. With jazzy prose and a tight inside viewpoint of a troubled teen, this novel will captivate readers.
One of the best stories in Ink........2003-09-19
Imagine that your friend has just 'gone columbine' in your school, and has left the once crowded hallways behind as a bullet riddled warzone with students dying on the blood splattered floor. Imagine though, if you could go back in time to stop this from happening? How would you try to prevent the shooting? What if your pyshco friend went back in time with you?
This is the general idea of Monday Redux. It is by far one of the best books I have read. You know when you start to read a book and you can't put it down? Well this is that type of book, and soon in the middle of it you'll act like an addict, not being able to keep it away from you, or to stop reading it. As soon as I finished reading it four of my friends read it, and they loved it. This was odd because they rarley ever read, yet this book kept them on the edge of their seat as they read and the plot navigated through its twists and turns.
One of the reasons I believe why this book captured my friends attention was due to the fact that school shootings are topics that are on all of us High Schooler's minds. Ever since Columbine people have always thought about, what ifs. What if the shooters weren't made fun of? What if the SWAT team moved into the school? This book hits the nail right on the head because it writes about a 'what if' situation about a school shooting, and conveys it in a suspensful story.
Most people who read Monday Redux can relate to the main character, Rego, because he is a normal guy thrown into a scarring situation.
The writing style of this book is utterly amazing. When you read about the shooting taking place you can just invision it happening at your school, giving the reader a disturbed feeling. This and the edge of your seat suspense makes the book a story that you can't put down.
To sum it up: This book is Godlike. You must do anything you can to read it. Search your local book store for this book like starving person foarging for food. Its really that good.
