Book Description
From sole practitioners to partnerships and limited liability companies, there is not one that is not going to rethink its compensation methods and exit strategies in the next few years. Many firms have not properly addressed how they are going to exit with full value from what they have built. This books shows how to achieve that success. It begins with compensation strategies that will keep key people. It proceeds through succession strategies that will identify and secure those that will stay to pay them out. And it shows the different ways to succeed in the largest transaction of the career, the "pay out."

Book Description
This book shows new and creative approaches to training people within organizations. It is based on the principles of Accelerated Learning, previously applied to language learning. Full of unusual and innovative methods for immediate use, this book will enable trainers to make their courses more enjoyable and successful. It discusses the recent discoveries on how the two hemispheres of the brain operate, guiding trainers on how to use their ideas and techniques to enrich and empower their training programs, as well as including practical guidance on putting ideas into practice.
Customer Reviews:
Unrealised promises.......1999-01-28
Given the pedigrees of the *two* authors (Peter Handley and the Michael Lawlor) this book *should* have been an absolute knockout. But it isn't.
Each chapter starts with a short extract from the hypothetical introduction of AL training into a mythical pottery manufacturer - Glospot Ltd. - designed as an intro to the subject matter of the chapter. I personally found these pieces too short and poorly written (especially the dialogue), and eventually came to dread facing yet another piece of stilted and (in my perception) vaguely patronising prose.
The main text is primarily concerned with Accelerated Learning (about which both authors obviously know a great deal), with occasional references to NLP, about which they seem to *understand* considerably less (the description of 'anchoring' on page 123 verges on the ludicrous).
To my mind the key paragraph in the whole book is to be found on page 132:
"There are a number of other memory techniques which can be useful when studying. These include the 'Loci System', the 'Chain of Links', the 'T for I' system, and creating sentences in which the initial letter of each word stands for words which are to be remembered. They are described in Michael Lawlor's book 'Inner Track Learning'.
Maybe it's just me, but I strongly object to this practice. I believe the authors should describe the techniques, or not mention them at all - certainly not as an advert for another book by the same author.
I was equally non-plussed by the choice of the HBDI (Hermann Brain Dominance Instrument) as the preferred tool for determining someone's learning (Chapter 8). The HBDI is a very closely guarded product and (according to the text) only the staff of the Ned Hermann Group(UK) are authorised to score the questionnaires, at £35 each. That's nearly enough to purchase the highly successful Honey and Mumford Learning Styles Manual, complete with questionnaire and scoring details and a licence for *unlimited* personal use.
Both of the authors have long since founded their own training establishments, and I couldn't help feeling that this book might have been a whole lot richer and more detailed in it's descriptions of the various techniques if the authors hadn't had to deal with this apparent conflict of interest.
A glimpse into the methods of truly great trainers........1999-01-03
When I found myself purchasing multiple copies of "The Creative Trainer" this holiday for bright young students who have a passion for training, I knew this book deserved a review. I have discovered the healing benefits of Accelerated Learning and NLP applied to corporate training for several years, and this is the best review and application of those techniques that I have found. Its attributes include: Well organized, easy to read, extremely useful reference section, and a score of brief introductions to the valuable tools and techniques it could take years to discover on your own. An important addition to academic books on the topics of instructional design and delivery and a useful introduction to tools used by outstanding trainers and consultants in organizations today.

Book Description
In this book, Robert Wald provides a coherent, pedagogical introduction to the formulation of quantum field theory in curved spacetime. He begins with a treatment of the ordinary one-dimensional quantum harmonic oscillator, progresses through the construction of quantum field theory in flat spacetime to possible constructions of quantum field theory in curved spacetime, and, ultimately, to an algebraic formulation of the theory. In his presentation, Wald disentangles essential features of the theory from inessential ones (such as a particle interpretation) and clarifies relationships between various approaches to the formulation of the theory. He also provides a comprehensive, up-to-date account of the Unruh effect, the Hawking effect, and some of its ramifications. In particular, the subject of black hole thermodynamics, which remains an active area of research, is treated in depth.
This book will be accessible to students and researchers who have had introductory courses in general relativity and quantum field theory, and will be of interest to scientists in general relativity and related fields.

Book Description
This text explains special relativity and the foundations of general relativity theory in terms understandable to undergraduates in mathematics and physics coming to the subject for the first time. Space-time geometry is emphasized throughout, providing a basic understanding of the special
relativity effects of time dilation, length contraction, and the relativity of simultaneity. Bondi's k-calculus is introduced as a simple means of calculating the magnitudes of these effects, and this leads to a derivation of the Lorentz Transformation as a way of unifying these results. The
invariant interval of flat space-time is compared to that of curved space-times, and the basic properties of simple cosmological models are presented. Appendices enable the advanced student to master the application of four tensors to the relativistic study of energy, momentum and
electromagnetism.

An excellent and crystal clear presentation of relativity........2000-02-12
This is one of the best introductions to the subject that I've read. The explanations are transparent with ample illustrations and examples. There are also many exercises to help the reader enforce what he has learned. There is also a very helpful annoted bibliography (actually the Afterword) which guides the reader to more advanced reading.
It is really a shame that this book is not quoted more often. Overall, this is a very fine book.

Book Description
This complete, well-integrated text offers students without extensive background in the field a solid understanding of the principles and applications of analog and digital instrumentation. Examines such topics as basic analog and digital electronic components, systems theory, and the design of analog signal conditioning circuitry for amplification, filtering, and level shifting of signals originating from a variety of transducers. Includes a detailed description of how to interface analog-to-digital converters to a personal computer, in order to digitize and display these signals, store them on magnetic media, and perform elementary digital filter operations. Also provides a review of operational amplifiers, instrumentation amplifiers, and systems theory. Numerous examples and problems are presented throughout the text, and laboratory experiments concluding each chapter provide ``hands on'' experience in all areas covered.
Customer Reviews:
Vageuly written.......2007-02-06
It is a very vaguely written book and a lot of stuff is just unexplained. This book does not help the reader. Unfortunately it is a prescribed text book for my course and I had to buy it. But I refer to other books and websites for the concepts.
Vague Intoduction to Bioinstrumentation.......2000-05-31
I read this book as a junior in my undergraduate work and if I didn't already have a background in the topics, I wouldn't know what this book was talking about. The principles are described very vaguely and the mathematics and physical concepts of bioinstruments are presented without sufficient support. This book leaves a lot of gaps that are better filled in with another book.

Book Description
At a 1931 barnstorming exhibition game in Tennessee, a seventeen-year-old pitcher for the Chattanooga Lookouts struck out Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig back to back. Her name was Jackie Mitchell--"organized baseball's first girl pitcher." On September 9, 1965, Sandy Koufax made baseball history by pitching his fourth perfect game. In July 1970, a stripper rushed onto the field at Riverfront Stadium to kiss Johnny Bench, temporarily disrupting a game attended by President Nixon and his family. These are just some of the great, quirky, and comic moments in the annals of baseball recorded in THE GREATEST BASEBALL STORIES EVER TOLD. Here also are profiles of such legendary figures as Joe DiMaggio, Pete Rose, and Yogi Berra, essays that explore the complexities and pleasures of the game, even an excerpt from the movie Bull Durham. This is the perfect book for anyone who has ever played so much as a game of catch.

A great read for baseball fans of all ages.......2005-02-24
This is a great book if your looking for some short stories (both true and fiction) about the great game of baseball. It is a great collection covering anything from Ripken's drive for the Ironman title, the summer of 98 and the home run kings, lesser known characters like Pistol Pete Reiser and what life was like after baseball for guys named Joe Dimaggio and Ty Cobb among others.

Customer Reviews:
unique photos, but better planners out there.......2006-02-19
I bought this planner because I usually get Sierra Club or Audobon and thought that Lonely Planet would also include cool pictures and be something a little different. I wasn't disappointed in that respect, but I'm giving it only three stars, because when I write in it (even lightly with pencil) my writing gets imprinted onto other pages probably with the ink from the pictures, so its a mess. And since its advertised as a 'diary' as well, that especially shouldn't fly. I have to treat it a bit gingerly, and that doesn't really mesh with my lifestyle.
Poor Ink Quality.......2006-01-26
The layout is nice and the pictures are beautiful, but I sincerely wish they'd used a different type of ink for the pictures. It rubs off onto the connecting pages causing a "carbon copy" effect. Anything you write on one page of the calendar will show up on the next few if there's a picture between. This even using a gel or felt tip pen with minimal pressure. After two weeks of using it, I'm about ready to give up and get something else.
