An excellent template for effective recognition........1999-11-27

As a fellow recognition professional, I know how difficult and rewarding the role is and I am grateful to Ms. Glasscock and Ms. Gram for gathering the data, outlining the process steps and creating an elegant and strategic blueprint for effective recognition, no matter what the work environment.

Organized into sections that deal with Meaning, Myths, Methods and Magic, Workplace Recognition clearly and concisely establishes the business case for recognition and cites statistical data and respected management experts as additional support for the book's premise.

Good and bad scenarios bring the messages right into the workplace we are all familiar with and help us understand the consequences of our actions and behaviors.

I wish I had this book as a resource during my tenure as manager of Cast Recognition at the Walt Disney World® Resort. Our team and over a thousand Cast Members worked many months to create the first global recognition process for over 35,000+ Cast Members. I believe that this book could have saved the organization many hours of research, benchmarking and just plain trial and error.

The book is well researched and analytical in its approach yet it speaks to the intrinsic needs we all have as co-workers, bosses and team members. It explains the how and the why of practicing positive reinforcement in straightforward, jargon-free language.

I recommend it to anyone who is interested in creating a more positive, productive workplace.

I spent a fortune on private, Total Immersion swim coaching and still couldn't swim more than 250 yd without a splitting headache. Didn't expect to get much from a book on swimming, but was desperate. It was great! I figured out exactly what I was doing wrong (kicking too fast), and went out and swam a mile. I'm not making this up! Would have given it five stars, but the pictures were not as clear as I'd hoped. Could have used more illustrations or photos, but directions were extremely clear.

I wanted to learn how to swim better. I tried a few other books, worked hard, and got nowhere. I began to believe it was impossible to learn swimming from a book. Swimming books tend to be lists of little things which can make you swim better. These lists are addressed to people who already know how to swim and do not add up to instructions for a new swimmer.

Tarpinians book is different. It told me in a simple fashion what I needed to do, how to do it and why. Reading just a handful of pages from this book has been the single most effective thing I've done to improve my swimming.

Skillful, Exemplary.......2003-10-06

The brevity of this effective, perfectly edited swimming manual is sweet indeed. Not one word too long, it will teach you to swim better than you ever have before, teaching you the fundamentals of freestyle, improving your freestyle, and then using a goal-oriented drill program, developing the four main strokes of swimming (freestyle, breastroke, backstroke, and butterfly). It touches on strength training and the brief nutrion chapter, which basically says, if you eat garbage (empty calories) insteady of health food (fruits and vegetables) is better than a lot of popular nutrition books I've read. Practical, resourceful, and knowledgeable, the books is truly like having a coach right there.

I used this book in conjunction with lone recreational work outs. I significantly improved my freestyle stroke in a few months after swimming most of my life. I had swim on YMCA and summer teams for a large chunk of my adolescence. I venture to guess it could be useful in one way or another for a person just starting out in a pool to a master level adult. It also includes info on other strokes but I used the book mainly for freestyle.

Excellent reference for the freestyle swimmer.......2001-05-02

This book is a great tool for learning how to swim the freestyle, or just for pointers when you need to improve your technique. It provides drills for improving freestyle technique, and great tips on how to design swim workouts. The only problem I had with this book is that it does not devote any time at all to the other three strokes, as they are all compiled into one chapter which does not include any drills or pointers. The rest of the book, which includes tips on nutrition and stretching, is meant as a tool only for beginners. If you are new to swimming or don't have access to a coach, I highly recommend this book to improve your swimming technique.

Wishing there were more ............2007-02-18

Meryl Streep's pace and tone are perfect for The Enormous Radio. Cheever's own reading of his Iconic Swimmer is read with just enough sardonic insouciance to be even more chilling than the metaphor of the story. Fall, freshman year of college, the Swimmer was my own personal introduction to the unparalled writings of John Cheever. Finishing Falconer to complete my first go-through of his oeuvre was a simultaneously exhaulting and sorrowful moment. Just as the end of this CD was.

Cheever was so talented at packing so many vivid images into his prose, it is no wonder that the written or spoken word are the only way to ingest him. Any attempt at visuals, small or large screen have been sadly impotent at best.

One complaint is the lack of a suitable break between the end of the Swimmer and the idiotic shrill woman shilling us all about Caedmon. It launched nearly immediately after .... "it was empty".

Refreshing for boys--reality and a fable at the same time.......2002-12-16

This is Susie Morgenstern's first published young adult book in the U.S. In it, William get suspended for telling his teacher the truth about what he was thinking at the particular moment he was thinking it. During his three days off, he just lets life take him to unpredictable places. That's where he meets a few different folks who basically all tell him not to waste his life--to study, to think, to get educated. The book is a fun, fast read, honest!and Morgenstern's quirky funny sense of people is what comes through. Her gift is that she can allow heavy things to feel lighter. This other guy's review didn't say much and only serves to discourage boys who have something to learn about life--from reading this book!

this might be the worst book ive ever read, actually it definately is. it has no value whatsoever, dont read this to your kids, class, friends, any one, it should never be read. it is (...), doesnt deserve the one star.
