    Book Description

        Book Description

Recorded history is a finely-woven magic fabric of intricate lies about events predating the sixteenth century. There is not a single piece of evidence that can be reliably and independently traced back earlier than the eleventh century. This book details events that are substantiated by hard facts and logic, and validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources.

Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.

5 out of 5 stars Pants on fire?.......2007-07-19

Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.

5 out of 5 stars Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09

There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.

For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.

        5 out of 5 stars Very Interesting.......2007-03-07

It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.

4 out of 5 stars History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10

Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.

I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.

Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.

Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.

I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.

This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.

            Book Description

This book will interest anyone who marvels at the night sky and would like to learn to recognise constellations and identify the brightest stars by name. Renowned amateur astronomer, Guilherme de Almeida, dispels the myth that specialist knowledge and elaborate instruments are a prerequisite for all astronomical observation. His book emphasizes the point that getting to know the night sky with the naked eye is an essential platform from which to start any astronomical observation. Step-by-step, the reader is guided through the knowledge needed to recognise key constellations, identify stars and planets, and interpret changes in the overall appearance of the sky throughout the year. The text is enhanced by the use of maps and illustrations, making this practical guide an invaluable text for all but the most advanced amateur astronomers.

5 out of 5 stars Suits my purposes........2007-10-02

The physics of celestial objects is of more interest to me than what kinds of pictures some people have projected upon the stars. The arbitrary pictures might help viewers navigate the night sky, thereby identifying specific stars, but most of us have a hard time recognizing the mythic cartoons. Reducing the evident relationships to simple geometric shapes helps, but a collection of handy sky `maps' helps even more. The monthly sky charts in `How to Identify Night Sky' are excellent. The planetary position illustrations are also helpful.

For those inclined to memorize the constellations and asterisms, there are also extensive diagrams included. Personally, as regards these `pictures', I readily recognize Orion's `belt' and Ursa Major's `big dipper' with it's pointer to the northern polar star, Polaris, but not much else. This probably won't change, so it's nice to have a book like this handy. There is much more here to aid the average observer, including a `calendar' of major meteor shower events.

4 out of 5 stars Good starter stargazer book.......2006-04-30

For the price you can't go too wrong with this beginning astronomy book. The sky charts go to the year 2008 so don't wait too long to buy it.
The included night sky charts are fairly self-explanatory, although it would have been nice if a large size pull-out style map had also been included. The text starts out basic and should be understandable for most beginners. The celestial sphere is descibed so that heavenly object positions make sense. The constellations are covered a lot (nearly half the book). Deep sky objects (galaxies, nebulae, clusters) are given much less attention.
            Overall not a bad choice.

            4 out of 5 stars A good beginner's overview of astronomy.......2005-01-19

I'm a complete beginner to astronomy and this was my first book on the subject. I wanted to get "Nightwatch" by Terence Dickinson but couldn't find it and this book was only $10 at B&N(sorry, Amazon) The sections of the book are:

            Observing the Night Sky
            The Celestial Sphere
            Monthly Charts
            The Moon
            The Planets
            Planetary Positions
            Objects in the Night Sky
            Constellations

Almost half of the book is dedicated to constellations. I have never read a sky map before, so the concept was very difficult for me to grasp. The contents of the first section almost had me understanding how to read one, but I needed to consult other sources to really get it. With that exception, I really like the book. It gives a good overview of what's out there and how to observe it without going into too much detail.

            Book Description

Journalist Robert Sullivan can't remember a day when he was not a Red Sox fan. It seems he was born a devotee; he certainly was raised to be one. From Ted to Yaz, the to-the-death pledge of fidelity to the celebrated team was a rite of passage for anyone growing up in semi rural Massachusetts in the 1950s and ’60s. Our Red Sox chronicles the love affair of a man, a family, and a community for “their” team. It’s about playoffs recently past and seasons long ago, about 1918 and 2004 and everything in between. It’s about families and sandlots and bleacher seats and press row, about tragedies remembered and frighteningly real — all happening in an orbit around the park called Fenway — as well as the luminous moments of camaraderie and triumph. Our Red Sox is a witty, gentle, moving memoir from deep inside a wonderful place called Red Sox Nation.

5 out of 5 stars The Real Thing.......2005-04-04

Quite frankly, I'm a little tired of all the so-called "Life-time Sox Fans" suddenly discovering their penchant for the pen, not to mention the almighty dollar, conjuring up any excuse for a Red Sox flavored literary treat that ultimately leaves the reader unsatisfied. Robert Sullivan, his family, and his friends have truly lived through the agony and ecstacy of what it takes to wear the "B" on your hat. His book, "Our Red Sox", is written with Mr. Sullivan's inimicable wit and style and shares not only lively commentary on a most memorable year, but also personal and touching insights on what it truly means to be a "Fan."

5 out of 5 stars For all Red Sox Fans.......2005-03-30

Robert Sullivan has given us an easy to read treasure by which to remember our beloved Red Sox. He reminds us of how we shared the trials and tribulations of the Sox with those closest to us-year after year. The irony is that Sullivan has been living and working in NY for over 20 years and has had to share his "Sox thoughts" with a small group of BOSOX fans in NY called "blowhards." In Sullivan's depiction of the ALCS you feel like you are in Yankee stadium with him experiencing the unbelievable happen. This is a classic that I read in one night because I couldn't put it down. I have passed it on to friends and family( just sox fans of course). I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

5 out of 5 stars A strange and wonderful journey.......2005-03-30

This book helps people to understand, what it means to be a true Red Sox fan. The author takes us on an adventure sharing his personal experiences through his eyes and those of his family and friends. The pain, the frustration and finally, the bliss is all hear for us to share. You do not have to be a sports junkie to love this book. Lots of tears, laughs and memories. A great read.

5 out of 5 stars You're going to LOVE BRITAIN! .......2004-09-23

I've spent a year in England and have made >30 visits all together.

Here are my reviews of the best guides....to meet you r exact needs.....I hope these are helpful and that you have a great visit! I always gauge the quality of my visit by how much I remember a year later......this review is designed to help you get the guide that will be sure YOU remember your trip many years into the future. Travel Safe and enjoy yourself to the max!

            Lonely Planet
Lonely Planet has City and Out To Eat Guides. They are all about the experience so they focus on doing, being, getting there, and this means they have the best detailed information, including both inexpensive and really spectacular restaurants and hotels, out-of-the-way places, weird things to see and do, the list is endless.

            MapGuide
MapGuide is very easy to use and has the best location information for pubs, hotels, tourist attractions, museums, churches etc. that they manage to keep fairly up to date. It's great for teaching you how to use the underground and the double decker buses. The text sections are quick overviews, not reviews, but the strong suite here is brevity, not depth. I strongly recommend this for your first few times learning your way around the classic tourist sites and experiences. MapGuide is excellent as long as you are staying pretty much in the city centre. When you get to be an old London hand, remember that the classic Londoners guide will always be an A to Z (zed) map and guide. If you want to go a bit beyond the central core of the city (perhaps to Windsor, Hampton, or further away) you really need the proper AtoZ to be able to find exact routes and streets.

            Time Out
The Time Out guides are very good. Easy reading, short reviews of restaurants, hotels, and other sites, with good public transport maps that go beyond the city centre. Many people who buy more than one guidebook end up liking this one best!

            Blue Guides
Without doubt, the best of the walks guides.... the Blue Guide has been around since 1918 and has extremely well designed walks with lots of unique little side stops to hit on just about any interest you have. If you want to pick up the feel of the city, this is the best book to do that for you. This is one that you end up packing on your 10th trip, by which time it is well worn.

            Michelin
Famous for their quality reviews, the Red Michelin Guides are for hotels & Restaurants, the Green Michelin Guides are for main tourist destinations. However, the English language Green guide is the one most people use and it has now been supplemented with hotel and restaurant information. These are the serious review guides as the famous Michelin ratings are issued via these books.

            Let's Go
Let's Go is a great guide series that specializes in the niche interest details that turn a trip into a great and memorable experience. Started by and for college students, these guides are famous for the details provided by people who used the book the previous year. They continue to focus on providing a great experience inexpensively. If you want to know about the top restaurants, this is not for you (use Fodor's or Michelin). Let's Go does have a bewildering array of different guides though. Here's which is what:
Budget Guide is the main guide with incredibly detailed information and reviews on everything you can think of.
City Guide is just as intense but restricted to the single city.
PocketGuide is even smaller and features condensed information
MapGuide's are very good maps with public transportation and some other information (like museum hours, etc.)

            Fodor's
Fodor's is the best selling guide among Americans. They have a bewildering array of different guides. Here's which is what:
The Gold Guide is the main book with good reviews of everything and lots of tours, walks, and just about everything else you could think of. It's not called the Gold guide for nothing though....it assumes you have money and are willing to spend it.
PocketGuide is designed for a quick first visit
UpCLOSE for independent travel that is cheap and well thought out
CityPack is a plastic pocket map with some guide information
Exploring is for cultural interests, lots of photos and designed to supplement the Gold guide

              5 out of 5 stars Super Book!.......2005-10-08

I have an extremely active 9-month-old son, and this is just about the only thing he will sit still for! I sing along to it, and he just sits and listens. The pictures are cute, and he is very engaged by them. Definitely worth it for any young child! Two thumbs up!!

The book board pages are great for a baby who is teething. My daughter loves it and cries if she can't find it. The melody is simple and so are the illustrations. She learned to push the button for music (cause and effect). It's so beat up I have to buy more!
