The Knowledge Management Yearbook is an indispensable volume for any professional helping to shape his or her organization's knowledge strategy.
A one-stop resource to the field of knowledge management
Includes best practices and cutting-edge insight from leaders in the field
Customer Reviews:
A very useful overview.......2000-06-09
40 articles by leading writers on aspects of knowledge management. The book covers the nature of Knowledge, Knowledge based strategies, Knowledge Management (KM) and organizational learning, and tools techniques and processes. They are of a uniformly high standard.
This is a very valuable reference resource in what has become a rather incoherent field - with a welter of definitions and perspectives. The Yearbook is a well balanced and well organised guide to navigation to available resources that also contains a very well chosen selection of articles to cover the various aspects of knowledge management.
Most of the articles are directed either to clarifying important concepts - for example Karl-Eric Sveiby's article on Tacit Knowledge - or to improving some aspect of practice - for example Charlotte Roberts on 'Can We Talk?', which is concerned with conversational skills. There is a wealth of useful frameworks and tools and some very useful summaries of key concepts such as the transformation that occurs between explicit and tacit knowledge. The emphasis is on human aspects of knowledge management rather than the technological end, but both receive good consideration.
In order to test the coverage, I worked through as many relevant themes as I could think of and checked whether I could find something useful on each theme. The only ones I did not find were the relatively new concern with physical design of space to enhance knowledge creation and transfer (an important part of knowledge infrastructure), and discussion of group meeting techniques for building shared understanding. That's a pretty good coverage score.
Part 5 Knowledge Management References contains:
* reviews of significant articles, * a listing of useful internet resources, with brief commentary on the content of each, * a directory of KM organisations * a directory of periodicals dealing with KM * a glossary of terms associated with KM and * a set of quotations (this last no doubt included for the benefit of speakers at the innumerable seminars and workshops on KM!)
Up to date overview and startingpoint for getting into KM.......2000-04-25
As a student in Knowledge Engineering, assignment Knowledge Management I was searching for resources that could help me getting into Knowlege Management. The Yearbook 1999-2000 is a perfect starting point. All the main steps in managing knowledge are explained with articles from other books. By ordening the articles you can get a quick view on the ideas that are in the heads of the 'experts' of a specific subject
But that isn't the only asset of the book, it also gives a very usefull overview of companies, websites, journales etc. that are involved in knowledge management. A good roadmap to start your search for knowledge on knowledge management. And for the ones that are writing a thesis the set of quotations on Knowledge Management are a precious gift.
The Five Parts: 1) the nature of knowlege (what is Knowledge Management) 2)Knowledge Based Strategies (practice of Knowledge Management) 3)Knowledge Management and Organisational Learning (the direction knowledge management is going to, interesting for researcher and companies) 4) Knowledge Management Techniques (the tools that assist knowledge management, could be more in my humble opinion but are sufficient) and 5)Knowledge Management References (very intersting map of directions in knowledge management, very helpful for a beginner in knowledge management and writers of academic reports and thesi.) The Five Parts lead you into Knowledge Management and give enough pointers if your needs aren't satisfied. Mine were.
Book Description
This guide to the identification of old farm equipment has been assembled to help those who have grown up since the horse-to-tractor farming conversion identify the myriad of horse-powered farm implements still to be found. The identification process is simple and quick, and is based on the presence or absence of such readily recognizable features as wheels and teeth. Photographs and identifying features of essentially all of the types of equipment used in the United States during the early part of the twentieth century are included.
Customer Reviews:
Identifying Horse-Drawn Farm Implements of Texas.......2007-03-25
Short book, well written with generally excellent pictures. The book would be better if the author had visited additional states and included more horse-drawn equipment as most of the examples are from the Texas, Arkansas area so equipment from New England, Upper Mid-west, Great Plains, Central Basin, California and Pacific Northwest is not identified.
Fascinating nostalgia.......2001-10-18
This is a neat little book with lots of photos and interesting descriptions of old farm equipment. Dr Runyan's farm background and love of his subject help the reader get a real understanding of the ingenious devices that started America on the road to become a world agricultural powerhouse.

Customer Reviews:
Good writers can offer facts and poetry without nonsense! .......2005-01-06
Each of Amy Koss's poems quickly catches the young reader's attention: Would clouds feel fluffy,/ Soft and grand,/ If I could touch them/ With my hand? Her "emphasis on end rhyme" provides the kind of gentle draw into poetry that children need. My children clearly grasp each poem's content, asking to hear one or another at bedtime.
Koss does not "attempt" explanations she nails them. "They're made of tiny water drops,/ So light they float/ above rooftops..." is not a "cursory explanation" but "the sort of detailed description that would satisfy a young audience" of five to nine year olds.
My five year old daughter joins our dog in his bed and reads these poems to him. She enjoys the pictures that complement the same quiet interest the poems generate. I do not expect she will get into any Esthetic Analysis of Bryant's illustrations, it only matters that they catch her attention and work with each poem, and they do.
Some words my daughter does not understand, and unbeknownst to some professionals, parents can anticipate questions, and kids can just ask. Terms like "gravity" and "sensor" give parents a chance to offer ostensive explanations: "Gravity is what makes that book fall; it pulls the book and the ground together." "Your hand is like a gravity sensor because it can tell which way the book pulls, much like a root does."
Amy Koss shows children that both facts and poetry can be fun. She does not stoop to impart knowledge by disguising it with nonsense, as so many children's book authors do. Get this book, and you will surely enjoy more time with your brightening child.
Terrific!.......2004-01-15
This little gem tackles some of the great childhood science questions. The simple rhyme scheme makes the information friendlier and more accessible - yet the book never talks down to the kids.
One of the professional reviews complained that this book had vocabulary that was "too sophisticated" for young children. I was annoyed by this. If you dumb everything down to what kids already know, then where will they learn new terms?
My 5-year-old enjoyed reading this book, and I enjoyed listening to her. I found the book charming and informative. For example, I didn't know that when fish are waiting out the winter, "Except for occasional / lake bottom treats / the whole winter long / the fish hardly eats!"

Customer Reviews:
A Little Misleading!.......2007-06-27
I was surprised at the rather low price being asked for this book, but after receiving it, it became perfectly clear that I had been mislead into believing that all instruction was included with the book, including a CD.
If you don't have a High Band Width computer hook-up, your really going to be surprised that the only way to get what you thought you had paid for is to send an addition $18 to $24 to get the CD or DVD.
The book was fairly well written, but the CD/DVD business left a bad taste in my mouth.
THe best.......2007-03-03
THis is very good. Dr Dave complements the reading with videos posted in a web site, you can also write to him, and he will answer within hours. great book great help. Perhaps not the best for banking methods, but good.
Excellent Book On Playing Pool.......2006-08-27
This book is very detailed. If you want to study the game it is great. If you do not like reading text books, this is not for you. Dave gives a lot of details, some of which help you understand the game, but you do not need to play the game. If you really want to understand the game and want to seriously improve your game and become a high level player buy it, but study it. I am an engineer so I like the analytical approach to pool this book has. Many of the principles are at the web site mentioned in the book where you can watch the videos. There are also proofs if that is your cup of tea and like geometry. If you just want the basics, do not buy this book.
If you want to excel, buy it.
Best all-around pool book available !!!.......2006-08-15
If you plan to buy only one pool book, this is the one you should buy. It covers all of the important principles and has lots of great examples. And the online video demos are great. They help the book come to life. The book is also easy to read; although, it ain't a novel. The book is also a great reference. It's very easy find the info you need.
I highly recommend this book. I think it is the best available!
Great book, but you can get it for free.......2006-06-28
Many of the information found in this book you can find it in the author's website (enlarge the cover to see the address). For that matter I believe that there's no much reason to buy this book if you can get the info for free. I have to agree that the content is valuable and critical for a player who wants to improve his or her game, but I don't see much difference between the book and the website (probably when the book came out the info was not availabe online, but still for a person today is easier and cheaper to access the website instead). Like I said, the content is pretty good and it definitely has helped me to understand many things about pool. Great info, for sure, just take my advice about the website though. The book is good for quick reference anytime you want.

Content seems to be good BUT....... the book tore away from binding wirhin the first hour of e reading........2007-08-05
The book quality is really lacking. I'm sure it will have completely fallen apart by the time I return as the book has come apart from the binding with only an hour of use. Lonely Planet, you know how durable these books need to be!!!
Full of errors.......2006-02-13
This book is full of factual and spelling errors. None of them are very harmful, so won't get you into trouble.
for himalaya lovers.......2001-01-21
the book presents a very focussed view for people interested in trekking in the indian region of the himalayas. it gives details of treks along with relevant maps. it is not for those looking for a general tourist guide for the region, but can be used by a variety of trekkers. usually one does not trust the trek details and advice given in such books and this might be very general at times. but it is different in this book. I am myself from one region in the himalayas and some of the facts and details about my region were also interesting and so accurate that this made me like and trust the book.i have also read the previous edition, and the author has built the book across regions. but the information is not very consistent across regions and one can easily make out some gaps for some regions. on the whole a good buy for people interested in specifics.
