Description:
Beek and van Santvoord [Beek, P. J., & van Santvoord, A. A. M. (1992). Journal of Motor Behavior, 24, 85-94] proposed a three-stage model of learning to juggle based on group analyses of temporal measures. Here, we examined in detail how the temporal and spatial features of juggling evolved in eight individual participants progressing from the second to the third stage of learning. During the second stage, the dwell ratio, defined as the ratio of the time that the juggler holds a ball between catch and toss and the hand cycle time (HCT), was stable when it was about 0.83. The subjects with a dwell ratio near this value and controlled throws exhibited stable juggling, whereas the subjects with a dwell ratio of 0.80 or smaller exhibited unstable juggling. Compared to the former group, the latter group had a longer time from the throw of a ball to the arrival at its zenith (TZ), and a shorter time between the arrival of an airborne ball at its zenith and the subsequent throw (IZR). The latter group also exhibited larger variability in the dwell ratio and IZR. With practice, the subjects appropriated, on average, the duration of TZ and IZR to the dwell ratio and improved the ability to accurately throw balls by changing the motions of the limb segments involved. Although these changes helped to stabilize the performance during the second stage, the variability problem was not sufficiently resolved. Only two out of eight subjects passed on to the third stage by the last (10th) Session. They achieved small variability in IZR, dwell ratio, and flight paths of the ball while juggling with short HCTs and small dwell ratios. These results suggest that the reduction of variability in these variables was essential to pass on to the third stage.

This is a nice book to read if you are mildly interested in bredding tropical fishes. If you really want to do it, you will not find the specific information you may want to have in this book. For example, in breeding Betta Splendens the author suggests water temp and aquarium size. Unforunately, water quality may well be much more important. What is the recommended Ph? Water hardness and other chemical factors if properly reproduced as the fish experiences it in the wild will help in spawning the fish. This kind of lack of information repeats itself throughout the book. Luckily it is out of print so you won't have to suffer...

An outstanding book........2007-05-02

Perhaps, if you could afford to go anywhere on earth for your holidays, you might consider buying a copy of this book. Then you could spend the rest of your life's vacations visiting the 52 most outstanding natural wonders that the earth is able to provide.

My only disappointment was with trying to marry the word "Atlas" in the book's title with the content. By it's very definition, any Atlas is a book of maps or charts and this is the first time I have ever picked up anything claiming to be an Atlas where there are "NO" maps whatsoever. Not one. Secondly, the 52 chosen sites are put together in no apparent order - logical or otherwise. For example, in successive chapters we visit Ayers Rock in Australia, Mount Fuji in Japan and then it's all the way back to Australia for the Great Barrier Reef. More preferable would have been to depict each of the sites in question as a number shown on a map of the world - and then to visit each of those numbers in turn as though it were a single journey.

Nevertheless, this is still a first class book which - but for a slight lacking in organisation, could so easily have scored a full 5 stars. The content is still there, the outstanding photographs are still there and so are the facts surrounding an incredible selection of places.

I bought this book for my son when we were talking a trip tothe Grand Canyon. When we got there, I was amazed to learn how much myson knew on how the canyon was formed. I strongly recomend this book!

Insightful and surprising.......2006-01-21

Now, I'd never heard of Rosenhaus until this summer because of the T.O. situation. I picked up this book expecting it to be a typical self-absorbed, egotistical piece of junk. However, I had no idea about the depth of Drew. He came to terms with his sexuality early in his life and he didn't let small minds stop him from becoming successful -- including his own. Did you know he auditioned for Cirque de Soleil? His talent was throwing enormous styrofoam triangles into the air and then catching them behind his back. He didn't make the cut, but he vowed that he would drink a gallon of Dr Pepper everyday from that day forward. That may sound incongrous, but I think it shows the level of commitment he's willing to make. So, Mr. Rosenhaus please take a bow, this is a book that may seem overpriced at 10 cents, but feels really right to me.

The name of this book should be re-titled 'A Shark Never Sleeps: Wheeling and Dealing with the NFL's Most CLASSLESS Agent.' This guy is so disgusting I won't bother to give my litany of negative aspects of this book. The only interesting part of this book is that it exposes the ugly side of professional sports.

Hoping for a peek into the arena of sports agency, I
picked this up one lazy afternoon. Wow! I suppose if
you're the right sort of person with the right sense of
humor, you could have a lot of fun wallowing inside this
fellow Drew Rosenhaus's own fascinated vision of himself
and his life--replete with numerous descriptions of how
crafty and tough he is, as well as an insert bikini photo
of his model girlfriend (with whom he's formed a deep,
lasting pair-bond, I'm sure).

However, it's more likely you might be left gaping at a
printed ego that approaches the sociopathic, pondering
about what publisher and editor were possibly thinking,
and wondering how many Drew Rosenhauses are out
there, tolerated, even rewarded, in this, the tackiest,
but best dressed, of all possible worlds.

Tolerated and rewarded not just in professional sports,
which would be bad enough, but in civil law, corporate
finance, government . . .

I could not belive how someone could be this self involved... I am a negotiator and was hoping for good negotiating advice but got something much different. I am sure that half of this book was untrue, however I have to give credit were credit is due, he did make it to the top. I just hope that after the realease of this book he is able to stay there, "now that would be impressive"...

We all know that our first public speaking event was unsuccessful. However, after giving more and more and more speeches in school, business, church meetings etc., you build more confidence and your nervousness turns to confident energy. What I have learned is that in order to get over the nervousness as a beginner, you must PRACTICE, PRACTICE, and volunteer or participate in any communication topics that you can speak on. Basically "initiate communication" at all times in your environment such as school, work, on the phone etc. The other secret is to have patients, it takes time, but the more you practice and study the art of public speaking, you will become very proud of your increase confidence and speaking ability. This book should be your number 1 source to develop this skill. Read it atleast 3 times, while practicing and giving speeches before you purchase other public speaking book. I have several to increase my knowledge, but this one is the best. God bless you and you will do great. Remember - you develop this skill, you become very valuable and unique to yourself, your career and to others because this skill is very powerful.

Or at least not what I was looking for...but based on all the other reviews here, I thought it was. This book has a very limited audience in mind, namely those who are giving "speeches", not just regular, everyday presentations and meetings. The name of the book is deceiving, and so are the reviews. The first chapter is the only one that is moderately worthwhile if you're actually looking for tips on becoming more confident. Otherwise, it is simply a laundry list of ways to give big speeches; not helpful at all to the average joe who works in corporate america and just wants to feel more confident. I realize this is difficult to teach in a book, but the other reviewers gave the impression that I might garner some tidbits on this.

I facilitate new hire orientations at my job regularly and this book was excellent and very informative. I bought the book because I wanted to be learn all that I could about public speaking since part of my new job responsibilities required me to stand up before an audience. This book, once again was great and I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to be a better public speaker.
