Management consultants Jacalyn Sherriton and James L. Stern contend that many business leaders outwardly embrace the team concept while actually clinging to the old command-and-control philosophy. This immediately dooms the cooperative spirit they profess to support and ultimately threatens the successful operation they expect from their companies.
Corporate Culture/Team Culture: Removing the Hidden Barriers to Team Success offers the duo's practical advice for overhauling corporate infrastructures to ensure that teamwork is more than a buzzword.
Customer Reviews:
A great recommendation by Inc magazine on What's Hot!.......1999-08-03
Inc. Magazine recently published a listing of recommended books. This one really stood out. It is one of the first one's I've read that actually deals with how to create "real change" in organizations. It directly confronts the pervasive culture that tends to thwart even the most positive organization change. Lots of models and real company examples to prove tackling the culture head on works!
Best how to book for culture change and merging cultures.......1999-07-24
Great book for those merging and/or changing cultures. Provides how to help.
Must read for anyone tired of the "Program du jour"!.......1998-04-22
This book is directly on target. Finally, someone is talking about culture and its impact, instead of trying to sell another "program" that will probably fail like all the rest. Sherriton and Stern make a great case for why all the other fad programs that have come and gone don't work: because the culture of the organization doesn't support them! Their model for culture change is detailed and complete, and they backed up their model with tons of examples from the organizations that have successfully used their approach. This is not a book for novices, but anyone with experience in trying to change an organization will immediately see the value of this comprehensive approach. Highly recommended for anyone who finds their organization under performing or in need of change and perplexed as to how to make the changes needed.
An extremely useful and practical guide for culture change........1998-04-16
This book offers realistic models and tools to powerfully affect the culture of an organization.
The authors' first hand experience and application of these culture change models to diversified companies and situations really demonstrated its usefulness and versatility.
It's a book that finally tells the story about how powerful culture can be in ruining even the best attempt to impose change. But more importantly what we can do about it to create change. An important concept of how we as managers can change our own subcultures, "in spite of" the organization' culture, is very insightful.
No insights here........1998-04-11
I read this book hoping to find insights about corporate culture and how to change it. The authors make a case for changing corporate culture, and tell why it doesn't work. I figured that much out on my own -- that's why I wanted to read the book.
They went on to present a "model" which doesn't help much either. What would have made this book work is a discussion of company norms. People tend to live up to what's expected of them, and norms are expectations of people's behaviors.
IMO, the book is too general. The authors need to try changing cultures themselves, then talk about the specific problems they had.

Book Description
Comets are always very impressive phenomena. Their appearances at regular, but mostly irregular, times excite people who see them. Astronomers have the obvious advantage of being able to see more of comets, and to study them. Their enthusiasm is reflected in the 50 papers in this book, written by more than 90 experts.
The reviews in this book clearly describe a landmark in the history of cometary studies. Knowledge gathered up to and including Comet Halley are presented in two volumes. The first volume is about general aspects of observing and studying comets, where they originate and how their evolution develops.
The second volume goes into the details of what a comet is: the nucleus, the coma, cometary dust, plasmas and magnetic fields. The book ends with a reflection by Fred Whipple about Comets in the Post-Halley Era.
The book discusses all aspects of comets and is therefore suitable for use in graduate level courses. All astronomers and geophysicists interested in comets will find very useful and well-presented information in this book.

Book Description
You're probably asking yourself what the "red zone" has to do with golf. We've simply borrowed a term from football and applied it to that space on the golf course - 100 yards from the green and in - where, just like in football, you can make the biggest impact on your score. We believe we've created a program that golf has never seen, one that combines motivation to improve your short game with easy-to-follow steps for getting there.
Here's our guarantee: if you work on your "red zone" skills and follow our program, you'll see significant improvement in your scores.

short game.......2007-07-20
This is a very good book with helpful information and drills to assist with the short game. I use it nearly every day.
practice facility.......2007-01-10
the northwest weather in the winter is not productive to make this happen it felt like some exercise program that i would start and find ouy i do not have this much time to devote.
Golf's Red Zone Challenge.......2006-07-24
This book offered nothing new. Lots of big pictures but nothing substantive. It was a waste of money. You can get more help from a monthly golf magazine.
Golf's Red Zone Challenge.......2005-09-23
I am a low handicap player and thought this was the best scoring book I have ever read!I chipped in five times in the first two weeks after reading the book. The eleven ball drill is incredible. If you need work from 100 yards and in, this is a must read. If you don't need the work from 100 in...have fun on the PGA Tour this year.
If you want to improve, get this book. .......2005-09-17
I am professional golf teacher, and I was very impressed with "Golf's Red Zone Challenge". This book provides a starting point for a golfer, gives very good information and a test to track your progess. This book is very easy to read as it has a nice blend of pictures, instruction and drills. Whether you are a high handicapped player, casual golfer or aspiring competition player, you can improve with this book.

Lonely Planet Pakistan & the Karakoram Highway.......2007-04-11
Lonely Planet Guide is the bible of all backpackers. Once again I would not travel without this addition for Pakistan.
Great book for a great country.......2005-12-24
Pakistan is among the tourism world's best kept secrets, and this book throws open those secrets very well. Lonely Planet has always been good with detail and comprehensive coverage, and that trend continues with its coverage on Pakistan.
Without the off-the-beaten track records, I would have missed some of the greatest historical and cultural artifacts that Pakistan has to offer. And the guide truly works as you trek up north into Pakistan's majestic mountains that offer the most mind-blowing natural beauty - even India's Kashmir area is nothing compared to the rugged and untouched beaty of the Swat River Valley all the way to whitewater rafting areas in Gilgit.
So when you head to Pakistan, definitely take this book along.
Wonderful details and descriptions.......2005-11-28
I found this book very helpful in getting to know this exotic country, full of adventure and culture.
I recommend this book highly to folks who want to know about the indus valley culture and Pakistan.

One of the most remote parts of the world, but well worth it.......2000-11-16
I recently completed a trip across the length of the Karakoram highway, and found this guide book excellent. It provided a lot of useful background on the different people and cultures whom we encountered, and had great information on the various towns and villages along the way. It was particularly helpful to have the phrasebook section at the back with all the different languages of the region. This is a wonderful part of the world to visit, but not the easiest to travel in, so a book like this makes all the difference.
Extremely Helpful.......1999-05-13
I reviewed several guidebooks on Pakistan before selecting this one. Lonely Planet is the best. It has the most detail information for travellers. Looking for a guesthouse, a motel, or a hotel in every corner of Pakistan, its in there. Travelling accross the country? Want to know how to make travel arrangement? Its all in there. Most importantly the prices are there. From the Arabian Coast to the borders of China, Iran and India this book is a traveller's survival kit; it all you need for you trip to Pakistan.
Born in Guyana and living in the USA, I decided to visit Pakistan in 1994. I was able to make my travel plans based on this guidebook. Its detail map was of great help. Where to stay, where to eat, what to buy, what to see and travel tips are all there. From this book I was able to get an accurate idea of how I should budget.
Using Lonely planet, I visited Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, Taxila, Mardan, Peshawar, Saidu Sharif, Bahrain, Kalam (SWAT IS BEATIFUL), Muree, Abbotabad, Kaghan, Naran and Kashmir. My trip was a success thank to Lonely Planet. This guidebook is worth purchasing. Now that I am plannig to return to Pakistan I have purchased the 5th edition as I plan to visit Gilgit, Quetta, Chitral, Iran and India.
Karakoram Highway,The High Road to China.......1998-10-01
I bought this book and just went through it. Actually I wanted to visit the Northern Areas of Pakistan and after reading this book I felt that I have visited the areas which even I have'nt heard about. If someone is planning to travel through Pakistan or China(Karakoram Highway)one should have read it to enjoy the travel throughly.

Book Description
Sister vs. sister...
When the first annual Miss Teen Sweet Valley beauty pageant is announced, Jessica Wakefield is confident she'll be crowned the winner. But Elizabeth Wakefield is trying her best to get the pageant canceled. Elizabeth thinks beauty pageants are old-fashioned and sexist, and she can't understand why her sister would even want to enter one. The twins have had fights before--but never like this!
It's a standoff for the twins. If Jessica participates, she'll lose her sister's respect. If Elizabeth succeeds, she'll lose her sister's love...
Customer Reviews:
Jessica in Miss Teen Sweet Valley Pageant.......2005-04-14
Jessica is in Miss Teen Sweet Valley Beauty Pageant, but her sister,Elizabeth, disapproves of it. If Jessica is in this pageant,She will lose her sister's love,If she doesn't,I forgot. Elizabeth does take Jessica's place, because something happens.
Enjoyable..........2000-06-15
It was amusing to read about the two different sides presented in the on-going debate about beauty pageants. In the blue corner, there's Elizabeth Wakefield; reliable, dependable and downright dull. Obviously, Liz's morals don't need to be discussed, it's obvious that when it comes to pageants, Lizzie is no way o-kay! In contrast, the lovely and beautiful and um...beautiful Jessica Wakefield stands in the red corner. it's obvious from her blinding talent of um...being beautiful, she's more than o-kay with beauty pageants (just so long as she can win). Other entrants into this pageants such as Amy Sutton are not really worth considering since it's obvious from the outset that no-one in Sweet Valley can come close to Jessica's blinding beauty - not even her twin (who looks just like her!) After a few tense arguments around the dinner table, Jessica and Elizabeth agree to disagree which means that both will continue to irritate and annoy each other throughout the whole of this book (well, just until the pageant). An amusing read.
it must be good!.......1999-10-12
i haven't read this book yet,but my friend told me it was good.i think that beauty pageants are great i'd like to enter one. i hope jessica wins the pageant!
Right on Jess!.......1999-04-21
I totally agree with Jess on this subject because beauty pageants are a lot of fun to compete in. Plus, it helps you get college scholarships if you win. And don't try to even say beauty queens are stupid because I am an honor student who does lots of community service and gets wonderful grades!
Right on, Liz!.......1999-01-07
I sided mentally with Liz here. Beauty pageants are dreadfully sexist and should be banned from this universe! I have the feeling the BSC's Abby Stevenson and Mary Anne Spier would back Liz on this one, maybe even the whole BSC. So would the Fab Five series' Katie Shannon. Maybe Jessica will grow up and realize that, too. Physical beauty really gets you nowhere in this world.

Beautiful.......2002-11-19
Dazzling Jessica Wakefield plans to enter herself in the first annual Sweet Valley pagaent. Her identical but serious twin Elizabeth is disgusted. She believes that pagaents are sexist and that they demean woman. The twins have one of their biggest rifts yet!Who will sacrifice what she believes in order to save the friendship.
Beautiful!.......2001-07-31
Many Sweet Valley High books were boring but this is good.Jessica wants to join a beauty pageant but Liz is holding protests because she doesnt believe in girls exploiting their beauty like this.I think she is wrong. Its not so bad.Anyway its a cool book to read.
I like this book..........2000-08-05
This book was great!!!!!! But I didn't grade it 5, because I didn't know Elizabeth would cheat.....even for her twin sister...she's supposed to be a goody-goody....but in this book its as if aliens took over her body. They didn't say anything about her being less goody-goody. And in the next book, Jessica just kept on complaining about all the stuff she had to do!
