Book Description
Recorded history is a finely-woven magic fabric of intricate lies about events predating the sixteenth century. There is not a single piece of evidence that can be reliably and independently traced back earlier than the eleventh century. This book details events that are substantiated by hard facts and logic, and validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources.

Calculations are only as good as your numbers.......2007-08-03
Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.
Pants on fire?.......2007-07-19
Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.
Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09
There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.
For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.
Very Interesting.......2007-03-07
It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.
History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10
Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.
I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.
Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.
Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.
I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.
This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.
Book Description
The ancient Greeks were for the most part a rural, not an urban, society. And for much of the Classical period, war was more common than peace. Almost all accounts of ancient history assume that farming and fighting were critical events in the lives of the citizenry. Yet never before have we had a comprehensive modern study of the relationship between agriculture and warfare in the Greek world. In this completely revised edition of Warfare and Agriculture in Classical Greece, Victor Davis Hanson provides a systematic review of Greek agriculture and warfare and describes the relationship between these two important aspects of life in ancient communities. With careful attention to agronomic as well as military details, this well-written, thoroughly researched study reveals the remarkable resilience of those farmland communities.
In the past, scholars have assumed that the agricultural infrastructure of ancient society was often ruined by attack, as, for example, Athens was relegated to poverty in the aftermath of the Persian and later Peloponnesian invasions. Hanson's study shows, however, that in reality attacks on agriculture rarely resulted in famines or permanent agrarian depression. Trees and vines are hard to destroy, and grainfields are only briefly vulnerable to torching. In addition, ancient armies were rather inefficient systematic ravagers and instead used other tactics, such as occupying their enemies' farms to incite infantry battle. Warfare and Agriculture in Classical Greece suggests that for all ancient societies, rural depression and desolation came about from more subtle phenomena--taxes, changes in political and social structure, and new cultural values--rather than from destructive warfare.
Customer Reviews:
Superb book, uses concrete experience to make a fine point........2001-01-11
The author uses his concrete experience as a farmer in the San Fernando Valley to develop a fine point about the "low intensity" character of Classical Greek warfare. He argues that, the Greek city-states waging warfare through part-time citzen militias, the war strategy of all Greek polities centered on the idea of forcing a pitched battle in order not to keep citzens away too long for harvesting at home. The means used to force such a battle being to disturb the enemy's harvest, which, however, given the low technology tools avaliable and the resilience of the crop-species - specially olive trees - could never amount to permanent damage. Therefore the general low-intensity, boarding game character of much of Classical Greek military history. A fine argued, important book, specially for the firm grasp of the concrete realities at play.
Excellent contribution to understanding Classical Greece.......1999-08-23
Warfare and Agriculture is a scholarly, yet very readable, analysis of the effects of war on agriculture and rural life in classical Greece. Drawing heavily on contemporary sources, Hanson clearly illustrates the inextricable connection between war and agriculture in the Greek world. With the notable exception of Sparta, Greek infantrymen typically were farmers themselves who were often torn between their role as ravagers of agriculture in enemy territory, and the need to tend to their own crops.
Hanson's main premise is that many previous analyses of agricultural devastation in classical Greece have overstated the severity of its effects. He points out the ravaging was usually a means to incite battle with enemy infantry rather than an end in itself, and argues convincingly that the ravaging often associated with the seasonal cycle of warfare, while certainly contributing to hardship among the invaded population, was far from complete and had relatively short-term effects. Drawing on his first-hand experience as a farmer, Hanson illustrates some of the practical difficulties with destroying the olive trees, vines, and grains that formed the staples of Greek agriculture. In the course of his analysis, he brings to life the Greek countryside and its relationship to the urban center of the polis.
Although Warfare and Agriculture will be of interest to any reader interested in the classical world, it is probably of greatest interest to readers with some familiarity with Greek history. The extensive references to contemporary and modern sources, including many recent sources cited in the Updated Commentary to this revised edition, guide the interested reader to a wealth of additional information on the subject.

Too much about dogs in general-not enough about Clumbers.......2007-06-30
It is almost impossible to find books about this rare breed. Given that, I almost hate to give this a rating of 3 stars, but it was disappointing. They do give some good info on the breed, but they dilute it with generalized info on getting dogs that shows up in every book they print on every breed.
This is a wonderful dog breed. If you are seriously considering Clumbers, go ahead and buy the book (used, if possible), but also take the time meet the breed and interact with it. Also go to the breed's official site via the AKC's site link. There is a great book, Choosing a Dog for Life (Well Mannered Dog), that also gives great information on Clumbers (as well as on all other breeds).

It is hard to find books on rare breeds, especially on Clumbers. If you are interested in the breed, go ahead and by it (used, if possible) or borrow it from a library. But, also visit the official website (link found on the AKC's official site) and read the book Choosing a Dog for Life (Well Mannered Dog) which has excellent information on many breeds.

I loved the great colorful pictures but I sometimes didn't think you talked about the Clumber Spaniel specifically, but instead talked about dogs as a whole.

Customer Reviews:
Not very useful.......2007-05-08
I have to agree with the reviewer below. Too much chit chat. Barely any useful picture of the holes or of the hole field layout.
From a regular player, this book is basically disappointing.
golfaholic gift!.......2007-01-18
I have gifted my golfing friends with this book for Christmas and others are jealous! It is an exciting excursion through the top golf courses worldwide, many of which avid golfers have either played or dreamed of playing. Those lucky friends are planning their next vacations around playing the courses with the most holes mentioned. It has become a game with everyone reporting to me how many holes they have played! The descriptions are tuned to a golfer's ear and the photographs are brilliant. Indexes make it easy to find favorites. This is a most welcomed addition to the golfer's library!
1001 Golf Holes You Must Play Before you Die.......2006-03-16
This book was a gift for my sister and brother-in-law. They seemed to like it.
Make me!.......2005-12-28
Is this supposed to be some sort of threat? Well I for one won't be adding any of my hard earned cash to these two yobs over inflated bank accounts.
1001 golf holes you must play before you die.......2005-10-13
I thought that the book was too small and many of the golf courses did not show pictues of the holes but rather a professional hitting a golf ball which could have been any where.
For Example, pg 92 Kooyonga Golf Club, hole No2 has two pictures of two golf pro's hitting golf balls with no picture of the golf hole itself. Similarly on page 24, Royal Melbouren GC hole No. 1, no picture but two close ups of golf pro's.
Los Angeles Country Club Nth Course, 3 holes , no pictures.
National Golf Club, Moonah course, 6 holes, not one picture.
Additionally, the structure of the book is poor as it should have depicted every golf course by hole in alphabetical order. Ie start with Aa Saint-Omer GC pg 1 and finish with Zaudin Golf Club on page 952.
Instead they have decided to chapterize the book from chapter 1 (1st Hole) through to the 18th chapter (18th hole) and fill each chapter with different holes from different clubs. If I want to see the holes of Spyglass Hill GC I Have to go to pgs. 44, 70, 164 and 648.
Great concept for a book but dissapointing in its design and structure.

The High-Fashion Show of Events..........2007-10-05
Many people say Preston Bailey is over the top- and he is! Duh... I have an event production firm here in LA and we make reference to the authors ideas, then we tone it down a bit, add our own flavor and touch, and there you have it. The point of a book like this that everyone else here seems to miss is that you should NEVER recreate anything in a book- but rather be inspired by it.
The point of my title is to draw a parallel between the ideas in this book, and the point of the high-fashion industry. When Dolce & Gabbana release a silver pleather jumpsuit in a runway show, they don't want you to actually wear that on the street; but rather, they want you to move in a more conservative version of that design that is usually toned down and sold in the store. It's like asking for a raise: ask for $2.00 if you really want $1.00...
Cute but over the top.......2007-09-19
I am an event designer and love making any room beautiful. I thought these pictures were beautiful but possible a little over the top. I don't recommend buying the book. It's wasn't worth paying full price.
Wonderful!.......2007-05-12
I truly am enjoying this book! Preston's style is so inspiring I have shared it with several of my friends. The photos are beautiful and the information he shares with us is very helpful. I will buy all I can of his work. Thank-You Preston for sharing the gift God gave you with us. Sincerly, Sherry
Love this Book!!.......2007-01-30
Preston Bailey is wonderful!! He is truly original and I love all of his books!!
Very Inspiring.......2007-01-11
I love this book. The themes and pictures are great. It's more for the higher end weddings
