From the supplier: US Air Force Academy Lt. Col Walter Austin, an advocate of the use of technology in education, challenged a survey published in the Jan 1986 issue of Accounting Review that found no performance differences among computer users as compared to non-computer users in accounting courses. Research was set up using MYSTAT and SYSTAT, two statistical analysis software programs from SYSTAT Inc, in Evanston, IL. Austin's experiment was similar to the initial one conducted by Professors Borthick and Clark. SYSTAT's ANOVA, or analysis of variance, was used to ensure the equivalency of the groups. In the end, Austin found no significant differences, although he reasoned that by having to learn both the computer and accounting, students were becoming disillusioned. His research recommends that students learn how to use a computer before enrolling in accounting courses.

                        Book Description

This study investigated the relationship between employee satisfaction and business results. Using data from a Fortune 100 Company, the research examined trends in thirty employee satisfaction variables over a six-year period and identified the relationship of the variables to various corporate and business unit financial metrics. The outcomes of the study suggest that there is a moderately strong positive correlation between an employee's satisfaction with personal development, levels of involvement and participation, use of skills and abilities, promotion practices, and opportunities for a better job and financial indicators of business success.

By providing a research prototype, this book serves as a starting point for Human Resource and Business leaders who struggle to identify and to communicate the value of investing in assessing and improving work environments to increase levels of employee satisfaction. As the pace of change increases and the availability to resources decreases in most organizations, this study provides a way for leaders to identify and prioritize improvement initiatives that might result in both increased levels of employee satisfaction and indices used to measure business success.

Colorado author Linda Masterson dispels myths, replaces fear with respect, and lays the foundation for improving human-black bear relations with an inside look at the fascinating world of these highly intelligent, adaptable and resourceful animals found in 41 U.S. states and every province in Canada. With over 900,000 black bears roaming North America today, people from Florida to British Columbia are encountering bears more often, and as a result, human-bear conflicts are on the rise. Everyone who lives where ANY wild animals are, not just bears, would benefit from reading this book, and equally important, the animals would benefit from people reading this book. It tells how to coexist and enjoy nature without creating or having to deal with problem animals. When people and animals clash, the animals always lose in the end, so help yourself and them with the good advice in this book.

                                4 out of 5 stars A good general guide.......2007-07-12

This book is worth the money and proviodes lots of good tips for avoiding conflicts. It does not contain much information on bear biology, but then again it doesn't present itself as a natural history guide. I would reccommend it to anyone interested in bear-human conflicts.

This is far and away the best book available for a typical person who has a home or cabin in bear country and wants to know how to cope with bears. It doesn't read like a boring textbook--the writing is light and easy. But retired Colorado Division of Wildlife Conservation biologist Tom Beck did the technical editing, so it's accurate. Most books about bears have not been reviewed by a real expert, so they're filled with erroneous information--some of it quite dangerous. You can trust the advice in this book. It's practical without being preachy. If you decide to be a beekeeper in black bear country--yep, bears do like honey--Living With Bears gives you detailed instructions on how to keep bears out with an electric fence. It provides pragmatic advice for any bear situation you're likely to encounter. If you live in bear country and you want to be a good neighbor, this book will help you understand why bears behave the way they do. Outstanding.

This book is awesome!! The perfect guide to co-existing with our big furry creature. I live in bear country and the bears are definitely out and about. Linda Masterson's book has helped me tremendously with methods of establishing boundaries and educating me on bear behavior. The book is easy to read and I would highly recommend you have it on hand!

This book should be required reading for anyone who vacations or moves into bear country. Through the words of expert biologists in the field as well as the experiences of communities that have developed plans to keep bears and people safe, Linda Masterson offers valuable advice. When it comes to coexistence with bears, education is the key, and this book offers very practical education. As an educator for Appalachian Bear Rescue and a presenter of bear programs, I find this book to be an invaluable resource.

5 out of 5 stars Bears for Dummies.......2004-08-16

This is an excellent book for the individual who knows little to nothing about bears or bear safety and wants a quick, read-it-in-the-car type of book to educate themselves. It dispells myths and answers commonly asked questions. It covers ways that anyone, the hiker, backcountry camper, mountain biker, horseback rider, hunter, or angler can prevent and protect themselves from bear encounters. It gives basic biology, ranges, and methods of determining which bear is which.

On the other hand, this book is not the best choice for individuals who want to learn about bear biology and psychology or for those individuals who are trying to improve or implement some form of bear management. My personal recommendation on these topics is Bear Attacks: Their Causes and Avoidances by Stephen Herrero. It is longer, but goes into far more depth than any field reference (like this one) could.

A good read for those who are not into long, factual books.

"Bear Aware' does all the right things. It dispells alot of myths about bears (yes, they can swim; no, they're not always slow and can outrun a human if motivated). It notes the differences between Black and Grizzly - the 2 species found in North America, but cautions you to treat both as potentially dangerous. It provides lots of useful guidelines to minimize your chances of encountering bears - from travelling on the trail to selecting a campsite and storing food. It reminds us that for all our knowledge, bears are unpredictable and there is no such thing as 100% bear safe (unless your watching the Discovery Channel special from your futon at home or can fly).

The 1st 60 pages are devoted to prevention, the 1st priority, according to the author. The 2nd would be protection. Firemarms, noise, aggression and pepper spray are all covered. Encountering a bear is discussed next. Special precautions for women, hunters, bikers and photographers are given special consideration, as well. Finally, living in Bear Country and a short essay on Bear conservation.
                                Excellent!

Also, try "Mountain Lion Alert", another outstanding Falcon Guide.

In this tiny book is as much advice as anyone can give a person who is headed for Grizzly Brown Bear country. Read it before heading into the woods but keep it in your backpack while camping for review.

                                5 out of 5 stars Thorough advice.......2000-02-03

I read this book right after I finished "Mark of the Grizzly" because quite frankly, after reading that book, one does not desire to spend too much time in bear country. Where I go hiking/camping, there are black bears and grizzly bears. How you react to each one could be the difference between a good story and a gruesome mauling. However, it is nearly impossible to find comprehensive advice for dealing with black bears. This author does just that. He discusses both types of bears. He covers behavioral differences and offers advice on how to react in a slew of situations. He also provides "catch-all" advice in the event that you can't accurately identify the type of bear you have encountered (which has happened to us - I credit the author for my ability to keep a clear head when we encountered the bear). This book is quick to read, and I do so every year as a refresher.

5 out of 5 stars Everything you can know about avoiding bear encounters.......1998-12-14

This little book reminds me of the old saying "If I'd had more time, I'd have written a shorter book." It's a quick read. It's back-pocket size, and it's about as much as anyone can tell you about staying as safe as possible in bear country. No one should frequent bear country without having read this book.... at least twice.

The book has an overview which categorizes the games according to activity level, timing, number of people needed, cognitive attributes, physical demands as well as other elements.

I have no financial interest in this book and I do not know anyone who participated in it's production. 5 23 04

What makes a perfect wedding? "[The bride] and the groom both look as though there were sunlight behind their eyes, as though their mouths irresistibly turned to smiles," wrote Emily Post in 1922's Etiquette. Great-granddaughter-in-law Peggy Post, author of the fourth edition of Emily Post's Wedding Etiquette, absolutely agrees with Miss Emily. To ensure those bright eyes and smiles, she imparts thoughtful and commonsensical advice on how to plan for not just your wedding, but for all the social and familial obligations and traditions that a wedding entails.

Unlike many wedding manuals, Post includes advice for the "encore" bride as well as for the new bride. In this day of remarriages and blended families, tact and strategy are often needed to make sure feelings aren't hurt and everything runs as smoothly as possible. A chapter on multicultural and interfaith marriages addresses differing world traditions and how they can be incorporated into a touching ceremony that makes both the couple and their families happy. If you are unsure of who is supposed to do what, Post gives you clear instruction, often including a flow chart that delineates the responsibilities of all people involved in the wedding party (bride's parents throw the engagement party, best man returns the tuxes, flower girl's family pays for her outfit).

Throughout Emily Post's Wedding Etiquette are sidebars with questions asked of Post regarding an amazing array of wedding-related conundrums ("My daughter's fiancé wants to follow his family's tradition of having a money tree at the wedding. I personally find this distasteful; can I say so?"). This is a great book to find the answers for all those sticky questions. All involved in the wedding process should leaf through, get their bearings, smile, and then forge ahead. --Dana Van Nest

This was one of the better basic books, for a few questions you can't find the answer to - writing letters, listing on invitation, etc.

I am a traditionalist but found no help from this book - there were so many options that there were no 'real etiquette' answers

Emily Post is known as the expert on wedding etiquette, so naturally that's what I ordered for a friend. The book was shipped promptly and arrived in excellent condition.

I'm getting married in a couple of years, and I already had Emily Post's 16e book on general etiquette, so I thought it would be good to get the full scope of weddings with this book. I feel really stupid for that now, because the book is small, doesn't contain most of the information that the general etiquette book has on weddings, and therefore isn't something you can use separately anyway. It's completely lacking on information, and so if you have to choose between getting this book or getting the general one and having some extra information about other things, get the general one and save some money.Emily Post's Etiquette, 17th Edition (Thumb Indexed)

                                    5 out of 5 stars Fantastic.......2007-04-05

This book has all the information you need about traditions, planning, pulling it all off. Every tiny detail brides are supposed to somehow know automatically is here and is easy to find.

Much of the book is geared toward people planning very traditional weddings - which I am not. Ms. Post gives plenty of more casual examples and perfectly acceptable informal options. The information is also presented in such a way that it is easy to modify her examples to make them your own.

This is a must-have resource for any family planning a wedding!

Not written for a wide audience, but for thoughtful, intelligent romantics this small gem of a book shines like the sun. In this short but memorable novel the author depicts in a wonderfully skillful way how even deep emotional wounds can be healed if the parties are willing to try to understand and forgive eachother. The first quarter of the book, perhaps, is pretty grim and the reader will be tempted not to keep on, but after a bit it's as though the sun begins to come out and starts to warm the soul. By the ending you may well want to write the author and thank him for giving you cause to hope again when you had almost given up on hoping; it's the kind of book you share with people who are really important to you when winter has been going on too long for them.
