The author of the rags-to-riches real estate bestseller Nothing Down for the '90s presents advice drawn from 20 years of writing and promoting get-rich books through seminars, infomercials, and home-study courses. In Multiple Streams of Income, Robert G. Allen shows you how to create income with little or no investment. Says Allen: "Today, very few families can survive on less than two streams of income. In the volatile future, you will need a portfolio of income streams--not one or two--but many streams from completely different and diversified sources."

Beginning with advice on controlling spending and increasing savings, Allen hits his stride in chapters on stock market and real estate investing. He draws on the investment advice of others, including Peter Lynch, and even suggests that you invest in Berkshire Hathaway and let Warren Buffett manage your money. Allen also shares his real estate strategies for finding motivated sellers, securing creative financing, and buying foreclosures and tax liens. Additional chapters cover multilevel-network marketing, information and product licensing, and marketing on the Internet. Throughout are checklists, work sheets, and testimonials, as well as pointers to more articles and materials on the author's Web site. It's useful to have so much information so concisely and well explained, and many who read this book will find it hard to resist implementing one, if not several, of Allen's recommended income strategies. --Scott Harrison

Knowledge of the structures and properties of nonferrous metals, such as aluminum, is required knowledge for all materials scientists, chemists, and metallurgists. However, existing books often include this topic with their description of ferrous metals. Because ferrous metals (steel and cast iron) are by far the most widely used metals, coverage of nonferrous metals in these books is cursory or absent. For this reason there is a need for a book that deals with nonferrous metals.

3 out of 5 stars Can You Make Multiple Streams Of Income Online?.......2007-05-23

I first learned of the term Multiple Stream Of Income from Robert Allen the No Money Down guy. He pretty much coined the phrase all the way to the bank. I read his book a few years ago, it was the number one best seller on The New York Times Best Seller's list. I was so thrilled to get my hands on it I just knew that this was the long awaited manuscript that we marketers wanted to give it a test drive.

It was a good read, however it had too many twist and turns and it cost a bit much at the time to implement his methods from just one website, and it was not the results I was looking for. I knew there had to be a better way for us new marketers to reach that illusive extra income stream.

I begin to wonder, can you actually make multiple streams of income online? I continued my search for the missing pieces of the MSI puzzle that would put it altogether; With the many product offers that promises you the world if you would try this program, and use it with this technique, and you'll surely be on your way to riches.

After several years of online seeking, I can now say I've been to the mountain top of internet marketing offers, and what I have come down with is this; there are many claims being made about multiple streams of income online that you can use right now in your marketing campaign to a steady flow of extra income. I found this unique website with multiple streams of income you can get from Google, Ebay, Clickbank, CJ; etc. All from one cool little website. I have studied the likes of Tim Knoxs, Brad Callen, Mike Falsaime; etc, and a host of other top online experts in this field of multiple streams of income and their proven systems, and what I have found will surprise you.

Don believes that less than 5% of the marketers are making it online, and 95% of the programs online are a waste of money. There are no more secrets, just the facts. If you are focus you'll learn one of many proven marketing tools I'll show you to help you along your way to build Multiple Streams Of Income Online the correct way.[...]

This is a awesome "How to" book for amassing the wealth necessary to break the gravitational forces of depending on employment for your financial security.

First, control the leaks in your financial pond
Second, add streams of income to that financial pond - includes lots of ideas

You'll have to read it to get the rest. I can hardly wait to get my hands on some of the other Robert Allen books.

4 out of 5 stars A Smorgasbord of Options From Which to Pick and Profit .......2007-04-19

There's no doubt that the content in Multiple Streams of Income will have your head swirling with wealth-building possibilities.

I believe that the book opens the doors of opportunity in areas you may not have considered. At the same time, not every concept is right for every person.

I found myself skimming chapters I'm not ready to pursue and slow to absorb chapters that contain ideas I can capitalize on right away. When I develop a comfort zone and steady income through the strongest possibilities, I'll re-read the chapters that contained ideas I wasn't ready to develop. Perhaps this tip will also help you.

The section I found to be extremely beneficial was chapter two, The 10-Minute Millionaire. It masterfully explains how to value time so that you can concentrate on the multiple streams open to you. That's key no matter which revenue opportunities you choose.

I appreciate a book that identifies numerous revenue sources, provides examples, and includes charts with a visual perspective on what's possible to increase personal wealth. At the end, your brain may be on overload. However, taking action on just one idea from this book has the potential to change your life for the better.

3 out of 5 stars Alright, too many stories. No real meat.......2007-02-24

I was expecting to get a book that would steer me into the course of making some more money on the side. While it does inform readers of ways of generating more cash flow, each chapter seems to just be filled with non-practical wisdom on how to enter each money-making field.

Virtual and Collaborative Teams is of importance to practitioners and researchers because it brings together in a single accessible source, a variety of current research and practice on the subject of virtual and collaborative teams. Geographic distance, technology, lack of social presence, lack of adequate training and lack of instructional resources are just some of the unique challenges faced by virtual teams. This book is a unique resource in that it provides a variety of research and practice from a wide range of disciplines, nationally and internationally. The essays blend theory and practice, encompassing quantitative and qualitative research, case studies, interview research and theoretical models.

4 out of 5 stars Virtual Team Guide.......2004-03-27

This book was a great combination of research, theory, and appliction that would be suitable classroom text, guidebook for managers of virtual teams, or resource for research. The mix of writing styles and sections devoted to specific issues is helpful and gives the book an expanded audience. Some previous knowledge of team management and of issues connected with virtual meeting practices would make this book the most useful.

            Book Description

In boreal forests, which contain large amounts of the world's terrestrial organic carbon, fire is a natural and fundamental disturbance regime essential in controlling many ecosystem processes. As a result of predicted climate change in the future, the fire regime and, consequently, the forest cover and carbon storage of boreal regions will undergo dramatic alterations. This volume discusses the direct and indirect mechanisms by which fire and climate interact to influence carbon cycling in North American boreal forests. The first section summarizes the information needed to understand and manage fire's effects on the ecology of boreal forests and its influence on global climate change issues. Following chapters discuss in detail the role of fire in the ecology of boreal forests. Subsequent sections present data sets on fire and the distribution of carbon, discuss the use of satellite imagery in monitoring these regions and discuss approaches to modeling the relevant processes. The book offers the following new results: improved estimates of carbon released during fires at a variety of scales, from individual sites to the entire North American boreal forest region; direct evidence of enhanced soil respiration after fire in Alaskan boreal forests; studies of the influence of fire on long-term forest-succession patterns; modeling results of the effects of climate warming on the fire regime; examples of the use of satellite imagery to monitor surface characteristics important in carbon cycling; modeling results of how climate change will interact with the fire regime to influence carbon storage.

            Book Description

The startling scientific answers to questions about advanced life on other planets.

If elementary life forms are common throughout the cosmos, could intelligent beings have evolved elsewhere, and are they seeking us out? A father-and-son team of scientists-both with research backgrounds in astronomy and physics-gives us the most up-to-date scientific answers about extraterrestrial civilizations and our attempts to find them. If they exist, why haven't we been able to make contact? Could they be reluctant or unable to make themselves known? If aliens visited us before recorded history, are we now overdue for another visit? Even if we discount most UFO sightings as erroneous, how do we explain that more than four million Americans claim they have been abducted by aliens? Is there a case to be made for a future scientific study of UFOs? Here, in language requiring no prior specialized knowledge, the authors pull together the strands from all plausible scientific answers to present a unique merging of current astronomical findings with philosophical interpretation of the techniques used in the search for extraterrestrial intelligence.

A thorough and academic treatment of the subject. Gave me a new appreciation for THIS planet though it got a little dense by the end.

4 out of 5 stars A different theory for finding extraterrestrials.......2003-11-03

The early part of this book covers ground that will be familiar to those who have read about the scientific search for extraterrestrial intelligence: the Drake equation for determining the number of alien civilizations, the search for radio signals(SETI), the absence of evidence (the Fermi Paradox), the evolution of life on planets. The Clarks, a father and son team of scientists, then turn to their own thesis: searching for alien spacecraft is as legitimate a research endeavor as searching for alien radio signals. They make the case for a scientific "ufology." This leads them into a discussion of the motivations for, and the feasibility of, interstellar flight. They invent the term IMETI, which stands for ETI capable of interstellar mobility. The Clarks discuss how to search for IMETI, including a winnowing out of UFO reports that would separate a genuine "signal" from the "noise." They favor the establishment of groups of researchers to pursue this quest. Pointing out that SETI scientists overcame the giggle factor to persevere in their research, the Clarks argue that scientific ufologists can achieve the same level of credibility. While many readers may instinctively reject the Clarks' thesis, it deserves as much of a hearing as most theories about extraterrestrials.

This clearly written book, aimed at a non-scientific audience, is easy to read. Unlike most books on this subject, it is not illustrated with photos or diagrams.

5 out of 5 stars Widening the scientific strategies toward contact.......2000-10-03

This powerful book urges a wider range of scientific strategies toward contact with alien intelligence. Use radio and optical telescopes to detect artificial signals, of course, and even to detect huge astroengineering projects far away. But then this father-son team of scientists point out that extraterrestrial intelligence may well have reached Earth, so we should come up with scientific ways to find small smart probes (or even gigantic spacecraft, though these are less likely). My recent paper at http://members.aol.com/AllenTough/strategies.html also urges science to widen its array of search strategies in remarkably similar directions, even though it was written before I read this superb book. ALIENS: CAN WE MAKE CONTACT WITH ETI is definitely worthwhile reading for anyone curious about how the biggest breakthrough in the history of science might actually occur. It lists useful websites and books at the end.

            5 out of 5 stars Fine update.......2000-04-19

Probably not any time soon but, as this very readable volume insists, we sure ought to try. Messrs. Clark explore the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence as completely as any book I've read, from rocketry to genetics, and they do it with a calm rationality that inspires confidence and credence.

The book is organized around what they consider the three big questions of ETI: The "SETI Question," the "McCrea Question," and the "Fermi Question." The SETI question from the Drake equation asks, if ETI is common in the galaxy, why haven't we detected signals from them? The McCrea query from astronomer Sir William McCrea, who asked it of the authors, posits, if elementary life forms are common, what is the chance that creatures like humans will evolve? The famous Fermi quip is, if they are there, why aren't they here? The authors explore these questions in light of the latest knowledge and speculation. The answers they come to are similar to those found in the classic Extraterrestrials: Where Are They? edited by Ben Zuckerman and Michael H. Hart, namely that there are many reasons we haven't heard from them, from they don't care to communicate, to their civilizations are short-lived, to creatures like humans are very rare, etc.

The authors make a couple of important points I don't recall in other SETI books. The first is obvious once mentioned, namely that a communicating ETI must have more than just intelligence. It must have dexterity. "[H]ighly evolved dolphins with the intellect of Frank Drake are not going to build radio telescopes to search out ETI," is the way the authors put it on page 92.

The second point is that science should not abandon "ufology" because it is now mostly in the hands of pseudoscience and the tabloid mind; instead the methods of science should be applied to UFOs as elsewhere; this despite the fact that it is pretty well realized that alien visits are highly unlikely. I might add that keeping a scientific eye on UFOs is valuable because if aliens ever do visit we may need the most acute and discerning instruments, experience, and intelligence to even notice them. My suspicion is that ETI may be so much different from us that we wouldn't recognize it if it sat down next to us! This is an up to date report that manages to be accessible to a wide audience without any dumbing-down. It includes a glossary, a short bibliography and some web sites. But books on SETI are like computers. Because of the rapid pace of technological and scientific advancements, we must have a new one every three years or so. I'm already looking forward to the next.

5 out of 5 stars We are all children of the cosmos.......1999-10-05

Clark and Clark's locus classicus is more a rampant celebration of the precarious nature of the human condition than an inter-stellar odyssey in search of the little green men of SETI mythology. This intriguing account leads us ultimately to gape wide-eyed with wonder as we realise that we - the inhabitants of our lonely corner of space - are more wonderous than the limits of our unguided imagination could ever have conceived. With a gnostic zeal, Clark and Clark force us to acknowledge that, with a wry nod to Leonard Nimoy's 1960s cosmic musings, 'you are a child of the stars with as much right to exist as every other creature in the cosmos', and implicitly urge each of us to embrace our fragile but precious existences with a renewed and hedonistic zeal. Clark and Clark are worthy prophets of a latter-day Epicureanism. Touche!

4 out of 5 stars Good book but less complete than title suggests.......2002-09-22

The title might make this seem like a fairly comprehensive waterfall guide for three states. It does cover waterfalls of Georgia better than any other book I know of. It's section for Alabama is relatively short. I'm less familiar with Alabama and don't know whether that means the book's coverage is sparser there, or whether there are far fewer waterfalls (or at least far fewer public-viewable ones) in Alabama. But as for Tennessee, the book's title is a bit mislesding to the extent that it would seem to claim general coverage for waterfalls in that state. There are whole good-sized waterfall-rich portions of Tennessee that are completely left out. The north part of the Cumberland Plateau is one part left out and the other is the northern district of Cherokee National Forest. Those areas are more or less as waterfall-rich as their more southerly counterparts that are covered in the book. Also omitted from this book is the Tennessee portion of Great Smoky Mountains National Park, but another book by the same author does cover waterfalls of that park. Another drawback of this book is that it has no index. But the upside is that, in the areas it does cover this book provides good directions to the waterfalls in question and maps in most cases. The maps show contour lines, which makes the trails easier to follow for those who know something about reading topographig maps. For the falls it does cover, it is therefore a good guide. It also has in the middle a section of beautiful photographs, most of them in color. Possibly it is the most comprehensive waterfall guide for Georgia, and I wouldn't konw about Alabama. But as for Tennnessee, there is a much more complete waterfall guide that covers all parts of that state that have waterfalls, and that is WATERFALLS OF TENNESSEE by Gregory Plumb.

5 out of 5 stars Waterfall Walks and Drives in Georgia, Alabama and Tennessee.......2002-08-24

The book's table of contents serves as the index: all 125 waterfalls are listed. At $9.95 this book is an exceptional value (8 cents per waterfall).

4 out of 5 stars Good book but less complete than title suggests.......2002-08-10

5 out of 5 stars My favorite book and way to spend a weekend........2001-02-15

My family has been drug up to North Georgia to hike on every Waterfall in this book. We love Blood Mountain falls and Wildcat Creek falls, because you can slide down them. Barnes Creek in the Cohutta Wilderness is another great place to play, right when the trail starts at the bottom, and all the way up to all the multiple falls. There is a big grass camping field on top of the mountain for a wonderful all downhill hike on Barnes Creek too. The falls in the Tallulah Basin and over by the Chattooga River are so exciting to find and explore. The scary cliff clinging hike in the Three Forks is as good as it gets. Mark even mentions Rock Town, an area of house size boulders you have to climb on , around, and under. You could spend all day there and still not see everything. It's amazing how many waterfalls the great state of Georgia has. Get this book and start enjoying some of the best weekends in some of the best wilderness area's in all of the Eastern U.S. There are so many more waterfalls past Anna Ruby and Amicalola. Please pack out though, and be safe. Another great waterfall book is Waterfalls of the Southern Appalachians, which covers waterfalls in North and South Carolina. Go Mark Go.

3 out of 5 stars Book makes locating hard-to-find waterfalls easy.......1999-02-16

This book does a great job of giving detailed maps and directions to some waterfalls that are very remote and obscure (as well as some that aren't). The author, a former surveyor, is very precise with his descriptions with milages accurate to .05 miles. The chief drawbacks are a lack of commentary and information on the fauna and flora of the region and a complex identification system that becomes rather cumbersome. Overall, an excellent catelog of some of the prettiest waterfalls in the region.

This book was given to me as a gift. Being a "novice runner" of two years, I found this book to be very motivational. It is very intuitive on the thoughts of runners and some of the obstacles runners may encounter and how to get beyond those barriers. I have thought it such an excellent book that I am suprised it is not readily stocked and available for 24 hour shipping, especially during the holiday season. You know us last minute shoppers. Great gift idea for the novice or avid runner in your life if you can find a copy of it in time.

The Runner's Book of Daily Inspiration:A Year of Motivation, Revelation, and Instruction is most likely the best investment I have ever made. Last year, I made a resoltion to myself to get in shape, eat healthy, and basically be a fit person inside and out. This is not a very easy resolution to fulfill, as I soon found out. It was my plan to run at least 3 times a week, and supplement it with another form of aerobic exercise. Very quickly, I lost my motivation, and was not living up to my expectations. I came upon this book soon afterwards, and tried to regain my motivation. After restarting my exercise program along with reading this book, I am now running every day of the week, rain or shine, hot or cold, I run through it all, all due this very book. If you buy one book in your life, buy Catcher in the Rye. But if you buy two, buy this one too!

              Book Description

This groundbreaking volume applies the concepts of systemic family therapy to the emotional life of congregations and their leaders. Challenging many of the conventions of pastoral counseling, Edwin H. Friedman shows how family theory points to a less stressful approach to the full range of the clergy's responsibilities. He also illuminates how congregational dynamics can be a useful model for the study of any family enmeshed in larger systems, and how such systems can themselves be viewed as "families."

Friedman compares the emotional processes at work within individual families to those in church and synagogue, suggesting that clergy can often do more to help families by the way they lead their congregations than they can through specific counseling interventions. Specific topics examined in depth include leadership through self-differentiation, managing separations in families and in congregations, and the influence of previous generations upon life cycle events. The power of the family model is clearly demonstrated in numerous examples drawn from Friedman's own extensive experience as a rabbi and practicing family therapist and from many other rabbis, priests, nuns, and ministers with whom he worked.

Both clergy and lay leaders will find that this book directly addresses the dilemmas and crises they encounter daily, while family therapists and other helping professionals may wish to recommend it to students and clients as a lucid introduction to family processes.

5 out of 5 stars If you are a leader in a congregation, you simply have to absorb the concepts in this book.......2006-08-13

This is a book to be absorbed slowly.

I don't think I can summarize this book any better than Friedman himself does on page 1: "It is the thesis of this book that all clergymen and clergywomen, irrespective of faith, are simultaneously involved in three distinct families whose emotional forces interlock: the families within the congregation, our congregations, and our own. Because the emotional process in all of these systems is identical, unresolved issues in any one of them can produce symptoms in the others, and increased understanding of any one creates more effective functioning in all three."

This book will invite you to take a good, hard look at your own functioning. "There is an intrinsic relationship between our capacity to put families together [or, Friedman would also say, to put congregations together] and our ability to put ourselves together" (page 3). Friedman looks at family issues and congregational issues from a systems perspective, arguing that when a member of a family (or a congregation) is demonstrating "symptoms," it is necessary to look at the whole network of relationships that that individual is involved in -- because the root cause of the problem may lie in a completely different part of the system.

Friedman illustrates in detail how clergy can positively effect change in a family system or a congregational system. He also (somewhat indirectly) stresses the critical importance for clergy to resolve their own lingering family-of-origin issues.

The book is heavy reading -- full of terms that may be unfamiliar (and that, unfortunately, he doesn't directly explain, which can be confusing at first), such as "identified patient" and "self-differentiation" and "detriangulating." Frankly, I think he could have used a good editor, so that the book would be more accessible to people who are new to the concepts of Bowen family systems theory.

But don't miss this book. Read it, slowly. Digest it. Read a few pages at a time, then put it down and process what you have read before trying to proceed further. It took me months to work through the book. But I'm a heck of a lot stronger and wiser than I was when I first started. This book will help you grow.

Then, if you want to keep learning and applying the concepts in this book, read Friedman's unfinished manuscript, A Failure of Nerve: Leadership in the Age of the Quick Fix (available through the Edwin Friedman Trust), and/or do a Google search on The Center for Family Process in Bethesda, Maryland.

5 out of 5 stars Read, and Your Ministry Will Never Be the Same.......2002-02-15

This book has a reputation of revolutionizing the way its readers view congregational life. Based on his experience as a rabbi and marriage and family therapist, the late Ed Friedman gives the most comprehensive and practical understanding of congregations as emotional systems. Conflicts are explained not from a linear standpoint, i.e. "A causes B," but from a systemic perspective where all participants are contributors. Each part of the system is connected to, or has its own effect upon, every other part. This helps to explain why many "issues" that arise within a congregation cannot be settled on the level of content, but must be viewed as representations of how the persons surrounding the issues are participating in the relational system. "Issues" may seem settled, but if the relational system continues to function the same way, the same or other "issues" will reappear later, because they were merely symptomatic of the emotional dynamics among the people involved. This book begins by explaining the major concepts of family systems theory, and applies them to organizational life, leadership, and the leader's family. It is full of examples, which makes these complex ideas easier to grasp. Few books are as insightful and helpful in equipping church leaders to understand congregations. It is the standard in applying family systems theory to congregations.

5 out of 5 stars A MUST READ for all persons in positions of leadership.......2001-09-26

"Generation to Generation" by Edwin Friedman is a groundbreaking book on the dynamics of organizational and religious leadership as seen through the lens of the multi-generational family systems model. In the book, Friedman uses case studies and examples drawn from his own leadership experience and uses them to illustrate how leadership can be understood and transformed by having an awareness of three major systems that directly affect organizational leadership:

              1. the personal multi-generational family system of the leader

              2. the organization itself as a system with both functional and dysfunctional elements

              3. the family systems of those person within the organization- for a religious congregation this would be the families within the congregation; for a company it would be that of the employees; for a hospital, it would be that of the employees, volunteers and patients who comprise that organization, etc.

Friedman brilliantly shows how these three sets of systems intertwine with one another to make an organization function in a certain way. He asserts that by better understanding the dynamics of these systems and how they affect one another, leaders can move from a transactional style of leadership to one that is more transformational in the way it functions.

In addition, Friedman's book is a tremendously helpful resource in seeking to gain a better understanding of one's own family of origin issues and how these dynamics manifest themselves in our relationships throughout the life cycle.

In this sense, this book will be greatly beneficial, not only for leaders, but also for lay people as well as caregivers.

The book is challenging reading in spots, but well worth the effort- get this book of you have not done so already- it will change your perspective on leadership and life.

              5 out of 5 stars Life Saving.......2001-08-28

I must have read this book twenty times since I was assigned to to read it in 1992, and it has grown on me. At first reading, the concepts that Friedman presents may seem contrived and counter-intuitive. However, after being in a leadership role in my church for some time now, this book is an absolute life saver. Leadership by self-definition is the most difficult, but the only honest and edifying way to leadership.

              5 out of 5 stars A modern classic.......2000-06-23

Friedman's seminal work in the application of Bowen Family Systems Theory to congregational life (Jewish and Protestant) has become a modern classic. More than just "theory" Friedman's book offers examples of the application through the lens of both pastor (rabbi) and therapist. This book provides the key to both healthy leadership and functional, healthy religious systems.

                    "OUT IN THE COLD"

                    Lynn Kirby

Did you know that in order to do something that seems impossible you've got to have a little bit of faith. You have got to try + work for it and that's just what 12 year old Shannon banks did at her Olympic skating competition. This book "Out in the Cold" is about friendship, leadership, trust, revenge, fury, and faith in god. This book is hilarious, inspiring, breathtaking, and quite perseverant. The author (Lynn Kirby) is very descriptive throughout the novel, you now how all of the characters think + show their actions. The characters are friendly and mischievous as any other human.
This novel is believable because of the events that appear happen every day in your life between friendships. This book takes place in San Francisco, were Shannon lives a happy, peaceful, and normal life. Her passion is ice-skating. She has many friends that also receive skating lessons, their friendship was tight but that all changes once this new girl that was practically a pro stepped into the skating ring.
Shannon breaks her arm while doing a fast spin, she misses a month from practice, the Olympics are coming up, she struggles a lot and yet all she needs is a little faith ... trust in order to succeed!
This book was very inspiring for me, I loved it! At every page you read, it gets better, and the ending... is a BLAST! You never know what you can do until you try! Only recommended for girls.
