This book has been a great help in understanding mathemayical economics. Each subjet starts with an explanation of how the math works. Then works each problems step by step to show how it all works together and they don't skip steps like some economics texts do. With the help of this book i am inverting matrix.

This is a good book for those studying calculas or various business subjects. It is easily explained with a lot of examples.
An excellent resource.......2005-06-18
This is an excellent book for non-quant jockeys who want to brush up on their mathematical skills for upper-level or graduate-level econ courses. The best strength of the book is its organization. After a chapter on introduction and discussion of a mathematical technique or theory, a chapter on the technique's application is presented. This is an excellent way to not only reinforce the material but demonstrate its applications and relavence to economics.
However, several caveats should be noted:
First, I believe that the ideal reader should already have some exposure to calculus. For instance, Dowling discusses the fundamentals of differentiation in about 26 pages, which is far too little if one is learning calculus from scratch. If the reader already has some exposure to calculus (as I did), then Dowling's chapters on differentiation and integration could be used as review.
Second, the learning curve really steepens in the latter chapters when Dowling discusses differential equations as he appears to sacrifice detailed explanations for brevity.
Lastly, I think the reader would be best served to use this book as a resource and not just as the main text. Mathematical Economics is a very broad and challenging subject, and as good as this book is, it only scratches the surface of a complex topic. I would also recommend "Fundamental Methods of Mathematical Economics" by Alpha Chiang.

Each question posed by the book is accompanied by a solution, which is a good thing, however, the solutions provided by the text include very few steps and little explanation. Furthermore, the questions in the text are way too simple. [...]
Mathematical Economics (3rd Edition).......2004-02-22
This is an excellent book. I would recommend it for anyone wishing to learn mathematical economics. It is equally beneficial to college students, who can use this book as a supplement to their textbook, and to those who want to use this book for self-study. For anyone who is weak in mathematical knowledge, the author presents the necessary mathematical skills needed to understand how to work the problems. As the author states: "No mathematical proficiency beyond the high school level is assumed at the start." All the required concepts are clearly explained.
The problems range from the easier to the more challenging ones. For example, some of the chapters include doing proofs, although these are limited to a minimum. In fact, only the chapter on "Simultaneous Differential and Difference Equations," out of all the chapters, contains a greater proportion of problems dealing with proofs - a little less than one-half of the total problems at the end of this chapter involve proofs.
This 3rd edition excludes three chapters on linear programming which were included in the 2nd edition. However, three other chapters were added instead: comparative statics and concave programming, simultaneous differential and difference equations, and optimal control theory.
I believe the author has done a very good job in presenting a difficult subject in an understandable manner.

Somewhat interesting, maybe a translation that lacks something.
Anyway, this is focused on soccer from the Italian point of view, so a bit more emphasis on defense, and the defensive situations and formations that they are long acquainted with.

Soccer tactics needs good graphics to better explain the formations.
Just in 4-4-2 we have a universe of possibilities that coud be explored in the book.

Professional help from Italian-speaking writers.......2005-11-15
If you are a coach, this book is for you. Its concepts are complex and the book assumes an already detailed knowledge of the game. There are several attacking patterns that I guarantee will help your team, as well as concepts and drills to improve individual and group attacking play. For someone who played defense in college and specializes in defense at the collegiate coaching level, the book is helpful if one-sided. The Italians focus on a zonal defense, and in general flat-back defense is detailed. There is some very good stuff in here to help build a defense. Additionally, almost any formation you can imagine is given a quick glance by a professional coach who uses it and notes its advantages and disadvantages. The one criticism I have is the clumsy writing--these guys are definitely not American.

Really an excellent book...A little bit "pro"...Actually I bought it to improve my game tactics on WE8/PS2 but it also helped my soccer fundamental knowledge to improve as well... I recommend this book to everyone who wants to improve his football fundamentals, especially on game strategies. As written by Italians,strength is on the defence side, but satisfactory anyway.

I bought this book about eight years ago, and I reread it just about every year. The advice is straightforward and often witty, and the book remains one of my favorites on etiquette.
I have since purchased or received the other books in the Gentlemanners series and enjoyed those as well.
Although you can read this book in lass than a couple of hours (and I recommend reading the book), you will be out of luck if you are looking for information quickly. There is no index, so you are limited to the general guidance of the table of contents.

The tenth chapter is entitled 'Extreme Etiquette: a Gentleman Faces the Really Big Challenges.
I only recently stumbled upon this series and have already moved on to John Bridges' collaborative work with Bryan Curtis called A GENTLEMAN GETS DRESSED UP. WHAT TO WEAR, WHEN TO WEAR IT, HOW TO WEAR IT.
Matters of etiquette are frequently debatable and always subject to societal change. Moreover, there will always be an old-school aroma clinging to any work that uses the words 'etiquette' and 'gentleman' without disparagement. For this reason, critics of the book who hotly dismiss this or that declaration by Bridges have misunderstood the genre. Bridges accomplishment is not to have given the last word on gentlemanly behavior, but rather to have given one solid line of approach within which any single pronouncement is open to adjustment or even rebuttal.
I am exploring ways to place copies of this little volume into the hands of my male colleagues in a way - as a gentleman would strive to do - that does not suggest that they are unwashed cannibals in their present condition.
HOW TO BE A GENTLEMAN is that good. I look forward to reading through this book's sequels.
However a gentleman doesn't gush, so I'll stop here.

Ninety percent of this book is already known by any man over forty...thirty...actually. There were a couple of things that were covered that I had wondered about and found that the most consistent advice was to say nothing.
