• Collaborate (I win, you win)—You cooperate with the other party to find a resolution with a mutually satisfying outcome.

Participants will see Kim, an operations manager, deal with differences between her and a vendor, her boss, and colleagues. In each scenario, she provides positive behavior modeling by showing when each style works and how to use it successfully. The video includes do's and don'ts, things not to say, and many other tips for using each style appropriately.

Use Conflict Resolution Styles to encourage discussion among employees of:
• How they define a conflict situation
• The types of conflicts that arise in their workplace
• How they typically handle these conflicts
• Examples of when they have used each style
• Situations that could have been handled better using another conflict resolution style and why

Good biography, but a bit patronizing toward the Welsh.......2005-02-13

I thoroughly enjoyed this book, having grown up less than 20 miles from the farm. As a child, I used to go on walks with my father in many of the locations he mentioned - the Snowdon range, the Glyders, Carneddau, Cwm Idwal, Cwm Ffynnon and so on. What makes the story for me is the struggle against nature - the wins and losses against the elements and the terrain. A good balance of fun-loving individuals and hard-working, entrepreneurial spirit makes the book very readable.

I don't claim to be knowledgeable on sheep farming, but the author does seem to capture well his journey from ignorance to competence with regards to the details of farming - purchasing livestock, keeping them alive, breeding them and selling them on. I used to attend the local agricultural shows as a boy and the depictions of the local markets certainly bring back some memories.

The book does have a tendency toward a patronizing attitude regarding the Welsh and I can see how a Welsh person local to the area would be annoyed by the tone in many places. There are several hot buttons there - the author was obviously a highly privileged man, arriving at a young age with a good education and able to buy a 2,400 acre farm - yet there does not seem to have been much of an effort to learn the language. A bit of an old colonial attitude perhaps.

Having said that, the author and his wife have made great strides in protecting the area and recently bequeathed the farm to the National Trust to protect the landscape. In other words, the negatives are more than outweighed by the positives.

If you have spent any time in North Wales, you will be sure to enjoy this book - if not, it may be a bit strange, but is worth the read and might even spark enough curiosity for you to pay a visit. If you do, remember the author's warnings about the weather in the area - take your waterproofs with you!

A perfect capture of the spirit of Wales.......2000-11-26

The previous reviewer has the great misfortune of not having been to Wales. I could never truly recommend this book to anyone who has not been to the area where this is set, in Snowdonia, one of the most beautiful and amazing places on earth. Until one has been there for brilliantly clear days where you can see forever, or spent an afternoon in a pub with a real fire watching the steam rise off your socks following a soaking hill walk, you won't begin to understand the trials and the joys of Firbank.

This is a classic book. I highly recommend it, and a visit to North Wales.

Good but at times boring........2000-07-26

This book was recommended to me as a "dramatic" story. While I did find the depiction of life on a sheep farm in Wales interesting I would at no time describe the book as dramatic. However I would like to visit Wales now so maybe it could be used to intice tourists?

Amazing book, absolutely amazing. It is not for the person wanting to learn how to do capoeira, but for anyone, beginner or master, who wants to read a great history and personal journey.
It even travels into the spiritual, deeper significance of capoeira.
GREAT BOOK.

This book is just an "okay" introductory text on capoeira. A major draw back is the centeral focus on capoeira regional, a better text would be "Ring of Liberation" because it more comprehensivly covers capoeira.

Mestre Acordeon's book has long been praised for its clear writing, for his thoughtful coverage of the history, philosophy, and artistic traditions surrounding this art-form. Other reviewers (see below) have noted that the book was among the first in English to introduce readers to these aspects of Capoeira, while also offering a glimpse into this one mestre's personal and life-long journey. Having assigned his book to students (both graduate and undergraduate alike), I have had ample opportunity to hear students' glowing reviews: most of these students had never heard of Capoeira, nor even seen it played, before having read his work. In retrospect, they (and I, too) consider this book an excellent way to delve into the topic. While there's recently been a flurry of new scholarship on Capoeira (at least 3 books in English have come out in 2005) that matches Capoeira's growing influence around the globe, Acordeon's book remains one of the best places to start one's exploration. The book Capoeira: A Brazilian Art Form was not only well-written but was interesting as well. This book educates you about the history of capoeira, capoeira practitioners, and even a short summary of how Mestre Acordeon was introduced to the art of capoeira. I would highly reccomend this book to capoeiristas, as it was very helpful to me. Axé.

This book is very excellent for picking up a few tips and learning new things. I've used it more than I thought I would and really appreciate the professional manner in which it explains things. There is really no need to say anything more than that...this book is without equal in the area of finishing information. It is comprehensive in scope, well researched (backed up with years of personal experience)and presented in a clear and entertaining format.

Many experts in the shop have faced with great trepidation the blank screen of the computer when they have attempted to impart with the rest of us their years of gathered wisdom and abilities. Bob Flexner seemed to have slid easily into the author's chair and rewards all woodworkers with a volume of immense readability.

If you simply build things in the workshop, this book is of no value to you. If you ever intend to apply a finish to a piece then this book is one you should definitely own!

I am glad to add my voice to the dozens here who have already praised this book and agree wholeheartedly with their positive assessments.

My prediction is that if you add this book to your shop library you will feel the same way.
