Book Description
Culture, Leadership, and Organizations reports the results of a ten-year research program, the Global Leadership and Organizational Behavior Effectiveness (GLOBE) research program. GLOBE is a long-term program designed to conceptualize, operationalize, test, and validate a cross-level integrated theory of the relationship between culture and societal, organizational, and leadership effectiveness. A team of 160 scholars worked together since 1994 to study societal culture, organizational culture, and attributes of effective leadership in 62 cultures.
Culture, Leadership, and Organizations: The GLOBE Study of 62 Societies reports the findings of the first two phases of GLOBE. The book is primarily based on the results of the survey of over 17,000 middle managers in three industries: banking, food processing, and telecommunications, as well as archival measures of country economic prosperity and the physical and psychological well-being of the cultures studied.
GLOBE has several distinguishing features. First, it is truly a cross-cultural research program. The constructs were defined, conceptualized, and operationalized by the multicultural team of researchers. Second, the industries were selected through a polling of the country investigators, and the instruments were designed with the full participation of the researchers representing the different cultures. Finally, the data in each country were collected by investigators who were either natives of the cultures studied or had extensive knowledge and experience in that culture.
A unique feature of this book is that while it is an edited book and many experts have written the different chapters, unlike other edited books, it is a fully integrated, seamless, and cohesive book covering the many aspects of the theory underpinning the GLOBE.

Culture, Leadership and organizations: The Globe Study of 62 societies.......2007-01-18
Though this book is rather expensive, it is worth the price. It gives a very good overview of both societal and organizational cultures in the 62 countries described. It helps understanding the challenges of multicultural teams. In combination with books written by Trompenaars and Hofstede a good insight can be developed in the backgrounds of behaviour and attitude of people in organizations with a multi cultural composition.
Worth it. Even thought it is a hefty price.......2005-07-19
This book will displace Hofstede's seminal work on culture because it provides the most up do date survey data on cultural values of countries. It is also a very useful leadership reference book. A bit on the expensive side, but then you are buying the Rolls Royce of culture books. To supplement this book regarding leadership in general a couple of leadership reference books would be useful (e.g., "Handbook of Leadership" by Bernard Bass--very complete, or more compact versions like "Leadership in Organizations" by Yukl or "The nature of Leadership" by Antonakis).

Book Description
Simulation models enable land and watershed managers to make precise, authoritative determinations about the affects of various changes on the environment over time. This book discusses the role of modeling in the management process and gives an overview of state-of-the-art modeling applications. The first chapters provide background on the benefits and costs of modeling and on the ecological basis of models, using historical applications as examples. The second section of the book describes the latest models from a wide selection of environmental disciplines. Since management frequently requires the integration of knowledge from many different areas, both single discipline and multidiscipline models are discussed in detail. The author emphasizes the importance of understanding the issues and alternatives in choosing, applying, and evaluating models. Land and watershed managers as well as students of forestry, park management, regional planing and agriculture will find this book a thorough and practical introduction to all aspects of modeling.

bookmark collection.......2001-02-14
A very disappointing volume - especially at the price. This non-technical book is little more than an uneven annotated bibliography. Most of the references and, more importantly, the explanations offered, are little more than rehashed summary descriptions of model descriptions found on the net. The coverage is extremely uneven, apparently governed by availability of information on the web. While emphasizing watershed management with frequent superficial reference to GIS, the book provides no meaningful treatment of developments in distributed parameter hydrologic modeling, the USGS National Hydrography dataset, or ESRI's own GIS-based hydrologic modeling tutorial and scripts. The book has several chapters that are 5 or fewer pages in length, with distracting typos and mangled syntax. My impression is the book started as a fairly generic outline or brief notes from a talk, that were unevenly fleshed out by browsing the web. Self-described as an introduction to spatially explicit simulation modeling for watershed managers and students, the volume is utterly mis-targeted. Generic simplistic figures accompany trite descriptions of data structures that are too esoteric for a student or watersehd manager and too simplistic for a programmer. While there are many useful links collected in one place, this volume is best viewed as an interesting collection of bookmarks for someone web surfing the search phrase "watershed modeling"

Book Description
A plain-talking, commonsense, chock-full-of-good-advice book on hunting whitetail deer.
Customer Reviews:
Definitely worth adding to the collection........2004-09-15
I am glad to see this classic back in print. It has been referred to as a deerhunters bible. I ordered it and it was an easy enjoyable read. However, I agree with a previous reviewer that Hal Bloods book it better. This is not a knock against the Benoit book, Hals is just better. Try them both!
Other books out there for less!.......2004-05-27
The printing company is attempting to capitalize on this classic. Without a doubt, this book is a worthy read. However, I feel that Hal Blood's "Hunting Big Woods Bucks" is better and a lot cheaper. If you want to spend the money, this is a good book, but you get more out of Hal Blood's book.
Another Benoit Classic.......2004-02-11
If you want to be the best at something, then follow the best. The Benoits are clearly some of the best at what they do - deer hunting. This book, although written years ago, is a wise purchase for any deer hunter. I have other Benoit deer hunting books and they are all filled with info on how to hunt as well as just being plain fun to read.
Super pricey cult classic back in print!.......2003-10-19
I remember reading about the Benoit family and their deer hunting years ago in a sporting magazine. What I remember most is that green plaid wool, Remington pump rifles and big bucks hanging from the meat pole everywhere.
Well in 1975 Larry Benoit published a book compiling those articles and alot more information entitled: How to Bag the Biggest Buck of Your Life. Because of Larry's legendary status as a hunter and his folksy way of telling how he hunts deer it became quite popular with deer hunters. Long out of print, used copies were selling for more than the price of a good used rifle! Now, thankfully it is available again, so I could afford one and read it. I loved it!
Hunters sick of the commercialization in todays hunting press (i.e. you can't possibly kill a buck without my brand of real bush illusion camo, and this hot scent, Lazermonster Super magnum rifle and this kind of scent absorbing underwear. etc, etc.) will appreciate the Benoits simple secret....they are real woodsmen in the tradition of James Fenimore Cooper's Hawkeye of the Leatherstocking Tales. The writing is simple yet elegant and it is fun to follow along with a master woodsman as he tracks the wily whitetails of northern Vermont and Maine. Even though I live and hunt mule deer and elk in the west, I enjoyed reading about such a superb woodsman and found some helpful tips.

A Legend in Scholarship Seach Books.......2005-05-27
The world didn't begin with Adam, Eve and the PC with static IP's. In the land before time (Terminals with Internet and Monsterous E-commerce), you discovered various scholarships to apply for from books, magazines, and the news media. Students (like me) spent hours apon hours in 'scholarship listings' xeroxing every possibility that we would owe the government less after we graduated college.
Back when I started college (1998), the 'de facto' standard was this book by Daniel Cassidy. One year, a few of fellow High School students attended colleges out-of-state for free. Well, my guidence counselor fully believed in the power in this book.
Now, I'm out of school for three years and am starting to share my secrets on how I finish college for free (search for my name to read more on my website, if interested).
Long story short, this book is the standard in 'manual' scholarship searches. It features compact and succint listings seperated by your major and a section (general) that any student can qualify for. The print is readable, and it gives you the basic requirements for each scholarship along with contact information.
BUY THIS BOOK EACH YEAR UNTIL YOU GRADUATE! For the minimal cost of this book, the rewards you will get easily are reimbursed. The choice fore me is a no-brainer.
Do yourself some justice and get this book today; unless you want to pay 7% of 50k.
The Best in the World!.......2004-10-19
If you have kids (or babysit them like I do) it's never too early to begin college planning. I wish this book had been around when I was prepping for higher education (yes, I'm from the dark ages, friends). There isn't a better book on the market when it comes to the fine art of securing scholarship money. And like my young charges, women of the U.S.A need to unite in an on-going struggle to be recognized by the university of your choice. Good luck ladies.

Book Description
In four haunting stories, kindred souls reach out across time, space, and magical barriers to rescue and transform each other. In the first story, "The Spring," a boy finds a world beyond the one in which he was born. In "Touch and Go," an elderly man recalls how he and a girl from an earlier time changed and enriched each other's lives. In "Checkers," a ghostly presence holds the key to survival. And Melanie, "The Lion Tamer's Daughter," bravely ventures in to her own dark and mysterious past.

Satisfying Stories That Linger.......2004-07-13
It might not seem like four short stories can have much impact, but something about these supernatural tales lingers in the mind long after you've read them. The characters and settings are unusual and engaging, and the stories themselves are not disturbing like some tales of the supernatural, but satisfying.
