muddy reading.......2007-01-10
The notation can be hard to follow if you don't have a grasp or natural incline for statistical regression. Steps are hard to come by in some problems because too many steps are skipped for a beginner. It is almost necessary to have at least a basic statistics background before reading this.
Even though I had a background and had read ahead, I had to depend on my professor to truly understand the material at all. If your professor has an accent or goes quite fast, and if you don't have classmates you can work with, using this book alone will be more than painful.
I would suggest a supplement such as "Using Econometrics: A Practical Guide (4th Edition should suffice) [Hardcover] by Studenmund" if you are just beginning to learn about regression.
Deceivingly more information than you think - half way between introductory and advanced.......2006-03-07
In sum: This book is half-way in between an introductory text (i.e. Wooldridge - Introductory Econometrics) and an advanced graduate textbook (Greene - Econometric Analysis).
Wooldridge's introductory textbook is certainly better suited for a first class in econometrics. Pindyck and Rubinfeld provide an excellent complement however, particularly for mid-level graduate students. Appendices show the matrix form derivations of most estimators, and provides a treatment of the GMM estimator, neither of which you will find in an purely introductory course. Really the appendices are where the more advanced treatments are offered to the interested reader.
Sections on forcasting and time series models in this book are greatly superior than what is offered in introductory texts (which usually is no presentation at all).
Pindyck and Rubinfeld do not waste a word in this textbook. There's a discussion on pretty much all the estimators, although some of these are short (one paragraph and no equations for the ordered probit - but you can't have it all!).
If you know nothing about econometrics then this is not the book for you. I was forced to buy it in my introductory econometrics class and had no idea what was going on. Then I had a competent instructor and lots of Wooldridge reading. This book helped me through Master's level econometrics and makes for good subway reading, but will definitely be shy of what you need for a PhD in economics. For PhD you will need Greene OR [Hamilton (1994) AND Wooldridge's Cross Section and Panel Data book].
Good beginners' book.......2005-08-22
This is a beginners' book, and for those, I would recommend its use, but only in addition to using it with Gujarati's. Pindyck's book is very simple and well explained. Its advantage over other books is that it is concerned with forecasting, something that other basic books do not do. It is a little bit more advanced than Gujarati's but lays between that one and Maddala's book.
Great equations, bad explanations.......2003-11-07
The subject of econometrics is difficult for the beginner. I have yet to encounter a text that does a great job at explaining both the concepts and the math required to be proficient in this field. I completed three courses, two undergraduate and one graduate level, for which this book was the required text. Like most of my classmates I was never able to fully comprehend the concepts behind the numbers using this text alone. Now that I have a better grasp of econometrics I will vehemently suggest that this text provides a poor verbal description of what a student is actually doing when analyzing data. I found myself reading the chapters 2 or 3 times and still felt unsure of what was going on. Where this book is strong is in its presentation of equations. I highly recommend supplementing this text with Peter Kennedy's, "A Guide to Econometrics," which gives excellent verbal explanations but de-emphasizes the math. These two texts together make a great study for a difficult subject.
It's not that bad.......2001-12-06
I'm giving this book 5 stars largely to balance out the somewhat unfair reviews that were given. For what it is -- an econometrics textbook that tries to present overview of neginning to intermediate econometrics and forecasting WITHOUT a lot of linear algebra -- it's a pretty good book. While it has its rough spots, the book has many good features. One of the really good features of this book is presenting the material with an emphasis on model building ... a very important emphasis that is too often ignored in other econometrics texts. In an ideal world, this book deserves at least an average of 4 stars and would deserve more if the readers made things more readable and better incorporated advances in econometrics since previous editions.

Book Description
Economics: Beyond the Millennium contains articles by leading authorities in various fields of economic theory and econometrics, each of whom gives an account of the current state of the art in their own field and indicate the direction that they think it will take in the next ten years. The fields covered are grouped into three categories: the microfoundations of macroeconomics, where Malinvaud evaluates the theory of resource allocation and Hildenbrand examines the empirical content of economic thories; markets and and organizations, where both Gabszewicz and D'Aspremont et al. look at imperfect competition and general equilibrium, Scotchmer and Thiess consider spatial economics, Ponssard the future of managerial economics, while Van Damme looks at the next stage of game theory; and econometrics, where Gourieroux reviews econometric modelling in general, Maravall looks at time series, Lubrand and Bauwens examine Bayesian analysis, and Blundell looks at the rapidly expanding area of microeconometrics.

Book Description
The aim of this book is to tackle the question of what the European territory will look like over the next fifteen years by providing quali-quantitative territorial scenarios for the enlarged Europe, under different assumptions on future globalisation strategies of BRIC (Brazil, Russia, India and China) and East and West European countries. The approach is as neutral as possible vis-à-vis the results, leaving to a new forecasting model, the MASST model, built by the authors, to produce the tendencies and behavioural paths of regional GDP and population growth in each individual European region under alternative assumptions on the competitiveness strategies of different blocks of countries. The results are accompanied by strong policy messages intended to encourage long-term strategic thinking among a wide range of actors, scientists and policy makers in response to the risks and opportunities that the European territory will face.

Whether it's a grizzly bear fishing for salmon on the banks of an icy river or a moonrise over Mount Brooks, the images in Untamed Alaska embody the essence of the U.S.'s wildest state. Loosely organized into nine sections, this photographic odyssey takes the reader from Denali National Park into the islands, forests, and mountains of Alaska, and even beyond the Arctic Circle, to the very edge of the northern ice fields. Spectacular images of erupting volcanoes and forbidding glaciers alternate with intimate portraits of Alaska's flora and fauna: a field of lupines, a napping arctic fox, a Dall sheep soaking in the sun. The forward by Margaret E. Murie reveals the character and humor of the people who have made Alaska their home, while the short essays prefacing every chapter provide additional information about the land, the animals, and the environment that is Untamed Alaska.

Untamed Alaska.......2003-09-16
This is a picturesque work which contains priceless photos
of the migrating Caribou, Musk Oxen and other rare animals.
There are spellbinding sites; such as, the Hubbard Glacier and
the Melt Water Pond. This work is "a must" for outdoor
enthusiasts and campers.
A spectacular feature on Alaska.......2001-09-04
If you are a nature photographer and seeking inspiration this is the book to buy. If you are a traveler looking to visit alaska and need to know where to go this is a great book. Incredible photography that is really jaw dropping.
I would reccomend this book without hesitation.

Customer Reviews:
NICE READ.......2007-08-31
THIS IS THE SECOND BOOK BY WRESTLER, COMMENTATOR AND MANAGER BOBBY HEENAN. IT IS NOT NEARLY AS GOOD AS HIS FIRST ONE, WHICH IS A VERY GOOD BOOK. THIS HAS ALOT OF OPINIONS AND INSIGHTS BY THE BRAIN. IT IS GOOD TO SEE HE IS STILL DOING OK AFTER HIS BOUT WITH CANCER A FEW YEARS BACK. IT IS JUST NOT THAT INTERESTING. I HOPE BOBBY WRITES ANOTHER ONE SOON TELLING US MORE ABOUT HIS EXPERIENCES IN THE SQUARED CIRLE. NOT A BAD READ.
It was ok.......2007-05-20
Bobby Heenan was one of the greatest characters in the WWF from the mid-1980's to early 1990's. A funny guy who could use his gift of the gab to make his wrestlers look good and in later years was a humourous colour man.
This book is not a biography like his first (classic) book, it is a self-help book that Heenan wrote after his cancer ordeal. The book itself is ok but I think that if I wanted to read self-help books, I would read one written by a qualified professional.
Great Book.......2007-04-19
Great book!, showing the human side of Pro Wrestling. If you are a Pro Wrestling fan from the old days, or a "Bobby The Brain " fan, you'll love this book!
Not the biography.......2006-05-02
Bobby Heenan takes to the pages again and presents us with a self-help book. A warning to the wrestling marks, this is not a biography by Heenan. He covers phases of his life from dropping out of school after 8th grade into his career as a heel manager/wrestler and up to his retirement but in no detail covers his life. This is a self-help book through the eyes of maybe the most hated man in wrestling, keeping in mind it is the gimmick of Bobby Heenan, not the man Ray Heenan, that is hated. Heenan, using wrestling metaphors, covers instances in his life and how an average "ham-and-egger" could better themselves from his life lessons. He throws in some brief anecdotes from his career and you might laugh a few times. Overall, this book did little for me and I would have been just as well off if I hadn't read it (and $25 richer). It's readable and enjoyable mostly but Heenan is just all over the place throughout his life and it gets a bit messy, almost as if his entire career took place in 4 years. None-the-less, hardcore fans will buy it, those mark fans wanting a rundown of Heenan's professional career should skip it.
Cancer Survivor........2006-02-22
The author uses wrestling lingo as a metaphor for life. Entertaining anecdotes and stories made this a fast and funny read. This may not be a self-help book, but I never read one that made me laugh. I am sure his cancer story hit many readers nerves who have lost people or pets to that awful scourge. Mr. Heenan remains the funniest man in the history of the wrestling business.

flash em.......2007-05-21
Plentys of cards, the most for your buck & very simple to use.
Not really 'cards' but small paper strips with words.......2007-02-25
Well, these are clearly not what I thought they would be. I thought they would be flash cards but there very small pieces of heavy paper 1 1/2 by 3 1/2 inches. They are Spanish on one side and English on the other as you might expect. It's nice that one side, the Spanish side, is black text, and the English side is blue text. However, the card numbers only correspond to the alphabetical arrangement of the Spanish side. So if you want to know the Spanish word for something specific, you're out of luck unless you turn the cards over to the English side, arrange them alphabetically, cross out the number that corresponds with the Spanish side and renumber them yourself, which is what I did. It would have been nice if they were arranged so that the English side had numbers that could be used to quickly arrange the cards alphabetically by the English translation.
There is a sort of glossary that you can use to look up the English words and find the card that they are on, but the text is really, really, small and difficult to see and very inconvenient for looking up multiple words.
I think these are better than nothing as I use software to try and learn Spanish on my own, but there is a lot of room for improvement of this product starting with the size of the cards and the addition of a dual numbering system.
Too much information on a card.......2006-03-04
I like flashcards to be simple so that I can just go through a stack of them quickly when I have a little spare time. Some of the cards have far too much information on them. Also, the small size makes them difficult to handle.
fun way to learn Spanish.......2006-02-26
These cards enable my wife and I to learn Spanish interactively. I recognize more and more words each day.
Modern Spanish Vocabulary Cards.......2005-08-27
These are by for the best value for Spanish/English flash cards I have found. Price is very reasonable for the box of 1000 cards. Many of them not only contain the word, but also word groups commonly used. I am using these to increase my Spanish vocabulary, and I got a second box for a friend who is learning English. An excellent buy! Estas cartas son muy bien.

Book Description
Hillary Siegal and her footloose parents love their life on the road. To Hillary, each move is an escape from becoming one of the "sleepwalkers" she's seen at all of the seventeen schools she's attended. But then the Siegals land in Ashwater, California. And this time, they're staying put. Seventh grade isn't going to be a typical year for Hillary. What can she do if she can't run?
Customer Reviews:
Caught Between Friends.......2007-07-02
Hillary sometimes thinks her life is so strange, she must be the subject of an experiment by otherworldly beings who are constantly testing her reactions to things. Hillary's parents are free spirits. They don't have an actual home; they and Hillary travel the country in a motor home, stopping for a couple of months at a time for Hillary to go to school. They often live for those stopped months in the home of a relative or some trusting family away on vacation. For money they make knickknacks to sell at flea markets or craft fairs.
Although her life is strange, Hillary likes moving around and never getting tied down to a place. She doesn't mind always being the new kid in school because she knows she'll be gone soon anyway so it wouldn't be any use to make friends. Then comes Ashwater, California.
Hillary's family is going to stop in Ashwater for the longest they've ever stopped anywhere, and Hillary is going to have nearly an entire school year in one school. Even more unusual is the fact that she makes a couple of good friends right away. Serena is the most popular girl in her class, the one all of the other girls flock toward. And Cass is a very quiet and bright girl who seems to have no friends. Suddenly Hillary finds herself stuck between these two friends who don't see why she likes the other one. Will Hillary be able to stay friends with both girls? Will she be happy to finally leave Ashwater?
I liked Cass' sensitivity to Hillary and the way the two of them were able to become friends so quickly. I also liked that Serena and her friends didn't turn on Hillary like many popular girls would have, especially when she didn't drop Cass as a friend.
Even though Hillary didn't mind, I couldn't help feeling like her parents were mean to move her around so much, never giving her a chance to put down roots and make friends.
Eh.......2005-06-23
This book was about a girl named Hilliry. She is 12 or 13 and she BELIVES that everything else is not real. Come on, I am 12 and I never belived that! This book was really confusing and boring, my favorite part was the end.

The Ashwater Experiment
Did you ever think you were the only real person in the whole world? That everything around you was just there to test your reactions? Well, in this book, The Ashwater Experiment by Amy Goldman Koss, Hillary Siegal thinks this theory is true. Can she be right, that she is the only real person living, or is she just a normal girl?
Hillary is used to moving from town to town and never settling down. Her grandma describes her life and her parents' life as a "circus train." This is because they can't stay put and her parents, for some reason, think they are Peter Pan. When her parents decide to housesit a house in Ashwater, California, Hillary realizes she isn't like other people.
In this book, Hillary jumps to many conclusions. At first, she thinks she is the only real person on Earth. She thought that nothing around her was real, just there to test her reactions. "I sat very still, letting the idea slip into me: My life was a giant experiment and I was the guinea pig. I didn't know who or what was performing the experiment, but I could feel all their invisible eyes on me. I decided to call them the Watchers." Hillary also wrote her thoughts and comments in a journal to the Watchers. "I stopped at the apartment door and imagined that on the other side of the door was absolutely nothing. Space, black and swirling. It would take my opening of the door to make something appear behind it. I opened it, and an entire scene came to life, complete with furniture, characters, even sound effects," Hillary thought. These are some of the things that went on in Hillary's mind.
I think this was a great book. It really interested me while I read it. I think people with big imaginations would be able to read this book.
As you can see, Hillary had a lot of thoughts about the experiment done by the Watchers. Find out what else happens to Hillary, in this book, The Ashwater Experiment.
