Book Description
A prospective home buyer's guide to evaluating a property, inside and out – loaded with inspection checklists, worksheets, charts, checklists, and photographs. This is a must-have for anyone considering a new or used home purchase.
Customer Reviews:
Much too basic and does not cover much on inspection.......2005-03-27
This checklist book has some photographs of homes that were OK but the checklist and text part of the book was much too basic. None of the parts of a home inspection were revealed or included in this book. So it is NOT a worksheet with 111 checklists but only a very basic and simple guide. I could not recommend this to anyone. Get another book that has a more complete checklist that you can use and that is helpful. You will never be able to do a home inspection from using this checklist book. If you did then you will be risking a lot since you will not know what to check out and inspect if this book is your guide!!!!

Fire in California's Ecosystems
ASIN: 0520219457 |
Book Description
Harold Biswell's decades of research and field experience were a major factor in developing policies of controlled or prescribed burning, which mimics or reintroduces the natural fire cycle. This comprehensive study introduces the principles and practices of prescribed burning, which apply far beyond California, within a historical and ecological perspective. Available for the first time in paperback, with a new foreword by James Agee, this book places Biswell's study--and his legacy--in the context of recent developments in the field.
Customer Reviews:
The Science of Prescribed Burning.......2000-09-13
Dr. Biswell takes a highly technical subject and writes in a style that is both entertaining and easy to understand. It is a subject many people have little true understanding of. Yet our land management policies that have lead to years of fire suppression impact so many of us.
As far back as the 40's, Dr. Biswell was in the field proving that controlled burning is both healthy and necessary for the fire-dependent ecosystems of the West. We are now seeing how decades of fire surpression has caused huge fires in Montana and elsewhere in the West during the 2000 fire season.
Anyone living in or near an urban/wildland boarder should read this book. It will awaken you to the realities of the danger many of us live with. This book should educate and encourage you to speak to your local land managers about taking proactive measures to protect your homes, lives and communities.
As someone who has taken a professional interest in this subject for some time, I would say this is the best book out there.

The Handbook covers most of the medical emergencies one must be prepared to face while recreating off the beaten path. For example: Your mountain biking partner crashes and is sitting in the trail with blood on his face from a scalp wound. What do you do? "Your first instinct is to wipe the blood away and help him up. This is a perfectly natural reaction, but it's dead wrong. Stabilize his neck until you are certain there is no spine injury or other major body system problem, then worry about the laceration." Or: You're caught in an electrical storm while backpacking. Now what? "In the field, the best tactic is to squat with your feet together as low as you can, ideally on your foam pad or backpack, which will help insulate you from ground current...Theoretically, there is a safety zone on the ground about 45 degrees out from the top of a tall object." Covering general emergency medical procedures as well as specific symptoms and accidents--everything from avalanches to snakebites to hypothermia--the Handbook is well-organized, thorough, and practical. But like any useful first-aid guide, it also discusses proper preventative measures and responsible outdoors behavior.
Book Description
Treat everything from a sprain to a life-threatening injury; updated with the latest techniques.
Customer Reviews:
Most have for campers........2007-01-17
After the course with Wilderness Medical Associates, I bought the book to have as a referance. It became much more as I learned more then I thought. It is a book that anyone going into the wilderness should have.
Outward bound wilderness first aid handbook.......2002-01-29
An excellent book. Rather than discussing different catagories of injuries and medical issues peice-meal, it presents basic underlying principles and a system for approaching accidents and medical issues then discusses accidents through that system. It is the most cohesive, integrated wilderness first aid text I have come accross. It uses simple language, and gets the job done without being overly technical (but it is not dumbed-down). It is so accessible and well put together you will actually pick it up and refer back to it (with ease). It is simply a very practical and clear book on wilderness medicine.
provides in-depth understanding of body systems and effects........1999-08-29
This book is simple for the layman to understand. Provides good detail into how the body reacts to wounds, infection, loss of blood etc. Educates the reader to understand the body systems which makes proper treatment understandable and predictable. No more trying to memorize what to do for this injury or that.
Book Description
With more than 7,000 up-to-date phrases, this dictionary covers situations from talking to a doctor to ordering a meal, and helps learners communicate personal feelings, and make small talk.
Customer Reviews:
extremely helpful dictionary.......2005-11-10
This is an extremely useful dictionary for an English as Second Language learner like me that has okay vocabulary and speaking ability but often doesn't know exactly how to express myself under some contexts. The dictionary cover mundane topics like "placing a telephone order for pizza", but I don't see that as drawbacks. Quite on the contrary, the book becomes so useful right because the topics and approriate expressions are very handy and can be applied everyday!
not really.......2005-04-03
i found this book honestly not very useful, i mean, the context, and the purpose of this book is not clear, if they were trying to teach us how to speak in some basic places, they had to teach by writing a vocabulary list for each situation, not sentences, you can't apply them everytime in a daily life, but some works, i'm okay with that, but generally i perefer a vocabulary builder for that,...
Good tool for increasing your spoken expressions!.......2003-08-05
I found this book very useful for someone who wants to increase his conversational skills in a short period. You can find lots of expressions organized by topic. It is helpful in the sense that there are words with which you were acquainted at some point, and this book serves to refresh your memory of some forgotten expressions. It's just like entering data to your brain. This book is not intended to entertain you; it is rather in the form of a dictionary, and reading a dictionary is no fun. But if your ultimate goal is to broaden your expressions, this book is an excellent tool.
I dare to speak English because this book........2001-06-18
If you have the basic knowledge of English grammar and vocabulary, this book is definitely for you. The first complex phrase that I dared to speak in front of the native English speaker was from this book. The questions that I asked frequently in the public were from this book. The topics that we talked a lot were also from this book. Even I learned some very useful phrases from this book for flirting with the people who I like and turning the people who I dislike down in chat-room. This is a must-have book for the learner of English.
An excellent book for learning Amercian spoken English.......2000-03-28
I strongly recommend this book for those who (especially, international students, businessmen and tourists) would like to understand American spoken English and express themselves using American spoken English. All the everyday expressions are arranged according to real situation. You can learn everyday expressions very effectively by reading and using this excellent book!

JoAnn Ross Cajun Heat Bad boy bayou movie star Gabe Broussard has come back to his Louisiana hometown for some peace, but things only heat up the minute he reunites with Emma Quinlan. With her lush body and hearty appetite, she's no Hollywood matchstick, and oh cher, does he like that. Emma just has to stop thinking about her former Cajun crush, so she makes a list of all the things she wishes he would do to her and buries it in a graveyard at night. Except it's the wrong listGabe finds the right one, and he intends to fulfill every blissful one of them
Nancy Warren You Give Me Fever Acclaimed playwright Devon Burnett hasn't had a hit in five years. That's why he's rented a small bayou cottage, hoping to find his muse again. I like my bad boys any way I can get them, and Kensington Brava sure hit the nail on the head with BAYOU BAD BOYS. What could possibly go wrong with three stories featuring ultra-alpha males, southern drawls, and women with brains and beauty? With this book, the answer is not a thing!
I've always loved JoAnn Ross's writing style. She has a very distinctive voice, and it shines through loud and clear in CAJUN HEAT. For Gabriel Broussard, leaving his hometown of Blue Bayou was the answer to his prayers. He couldn't wait to hightail it out of there all those years ago, and he's certainly made the best of his time away from home. An actor with all the fame, fortune, and money a guy could ask for, he's been living his dreams-until two dates with a world-renowned actress somehow turned into an "engagement" and then was broken due to his quote-unquote "addiction to kinky sex." What was kinky were the pairs of underwear getting thrown over the gates of his estate, but Gabe can't really complain. What he can do is turn his back on the press who are hounding him and head back to Blue Bayou for some rest, relaxation, and recovery.
Except Blue Bayou still has one thing he's never forgotten-Emma Quinlan. As soon as Emma lays eyes on the man she's never stopped loving, she knows there's still something between them. Unfortunately, she can't decide if it's unfinished business due to Gabe's leaving all those years ago without a proper goodbye, or the heat and desire she still feels for him. Is there any way at all that a small-town girl at home in the bayou could have a future with one of Hollywood's darlings? She's determined, almost reluctantly, to find out.
Nancy Warren, one of my favorite authors, brings us YOU GIVE ME FEVER, a real humdinger of a story that burns up the pages. Lucy Charles is a history lecturer at the University of Toronto, where she lives. She'd recently began researching her own family's background all the way back to the 1700s, and with thorough investigation had tracked living relatives-however distant-to Louisiana. Determined to have more to include in the family newsletter than recycled recipes, she sets off from Canada to the New Orleans Garden District-and is struck speechless not only by the Tara-like mansion she arrives at, but also by the drop-dead-gorgeous man in the garden who's none other than her very-much removed cousin, Claude LeBlanc. Suddenly, vacationing with very distant relatives while researching family history takes on a whole new meaning-mainly, that of having a fling with the mysterious Claude, the first man in a long, long while to get her juices flowing.
Claude, on the other hand, isn't happy with his mother, Beatrice, who offered their home up as lodging to a virtual stranger. Sure, they're technically related, but to invite a stranger into your home and hand over family secrets seems a bit far-fetched. Until he meets the delectable Lucy, a woman full of passion, mystery, and a head for history. Suddenly, having her in his home is causing all types of complications, and mapping out the family tree is the least of his worries.
E. C. Sheedy brings IN GOOD HANDS to the Bayou-based anthology, and what a pair of hands it is! Dane McCoy lives on Delacroix Island as a personal choice-not too far from New Orleans, but far enough-because he values his privacy and solitude. Housing his sister Marilee's (think Paris Hilton) "best friend" Esme Shane isn't his idea of a good time. A book illustrator, Esme needs one last beach to complete her portfolio for her editor, and Delacroix Island is the perfect place to do so. Dane understands all of that, but he's not happy. Especially when his sister describes Esme as a "mouse", a quiet, unassuming woman who will stay out of his way. Funny, but the Esme Shane he meets when the plane lands is a thirty-nine-year old firecracker who's unbelievably hot.
Esme realizes right away that Marilee has launched another one of her plans. Her brother Dane is not the middle-aged super-nerd hermit with no time for sex that Marilee made him out to be. Dane McCoy is all hot-blooded male, and he's nobody's fool. Neither, for that matter, is she-and as soon as she finds out Marilee's true ulterior motive, that of getting Dane to invest in her latest hair-brained business venture, she plans to hightail it out of Dodge. Unfortunately, she never counted on the near-combustible attraction that would flare up between her and the enigmatic Dane, so she might just end up staying on the Island a bit longer than she'd originally planned.
All in all, BAYOU BAD BOYS is one hot ticket to Louisiana! You don't want to miss this winning collection of Southern stories-or the hotties that grace the pages!
So bad..........2006-11-22
and I do mean that in a bad way. This was so boring, I could cry. I skimmed through the first story and the dialogue was so cliched and dumb, I wanted to kill whoever wrote it. And unbelievable. I mean, I know a big part of romance is supposed to be unbelievable stuff anyway...but this was just stupid. Yeah, there's like sex on every page. And it was still boring!! No plot. Characters are thinnly drawn. Not worth it. Unless what you want is a sex-fest.
EROTIC FLUFF!.......2006-10-07
Three very erotic and sensual stories but not much room for character or plot development.
A Word of Warning.......2006-06-13
I just bought this book today.I enoyed all the stories. However, the preview for the next book written by JoAnn Ross featured in the back of this book is called,IMPULSE.She wrote another book by the same name recently, that is totally different from the preview. If you want to read Nick and Cait's story, you'll have to wait for it as it is NOT the IMPULSE mentioned as Ross'next novel.
Happy Reading Anyway!
Steamy!!.......2006-02-09
CAJUN HEAT by JoAnn Ross
When Gabriel Broussard left Blue Bayou for Hollywood, he had no intention of returning. Until he needs to escape Hollywood and the gossip and lies that abound there. Emma Quinlen's heart was shattered when Gabe left town all those years ago, and the moment she sees him again, her continued attraction to him is undeniable. With Emma being insecure because of her lush curves, thinking that Gabe surely prefers the thin bodies that are typical in Hollywood, Gabe has no choice but to prove her wrong. Facing the pain and the mistakes of their past is no easy task, but every heated moment they are together makes both of them wonder if they could have something more than a brief fling. Gabe and Emma are wonderfully written characters who sizzle throughout this great story.
YOU GIVE ME FEVER by Nancy Warren
Lucy Charles goes to New Orleans to trace her roots, she has no expectations of finding love. When she first meets her distant cousin, Claude LeBlanc, she mistakes him for his mother's groundskeeper. It isn't long before she finds out who he really is and the two of them are caught up in a red-hot affair. When a series of jewelry thefts happen and Lucy suspects that Claude is involved, she's torn as to whether or not to turn him in. Claude can't believe his good fortune in meeting Lucy, but she doesn't have a clue about who he is or what he really does; he fears her reaction when she finds out. Nancy Warren heats up the pages with this tale about trust and love, and the fine line between the two.
IN GOOD HANDS by E.C. Sheedy
Dane McCoy happily lives a life of seclusion, enjoying the quiet and solitude of his island home. Imagine his disappointment when he allows his sister to talk him into allowing her friend, Esme Shane, to spend a couple of weeks in his home so she can use illustrations from his beach for her portfolio. The woman who shows up at his home is anything but mousy and shy, she is beautiful with long legs that stir his imagination. Suddenly, having a visitor is very appealing and Dane can't resist the sweet temptation of seducing Esme. When Esme is persuaded to go to Dane's beachfront to finish her portfolio, she expects to meet a middle-aged geek who stays holed-up with his computers. Realizing that she has been misled by Dane's sister, who failed to mention that Dane was gorgeous, Esme decides to give in to Dane's smooth seduction, thinking a quick affair would be harmless; or would it? Neither Dane nor Esme were what the other expected them to be, but they are perfect together and E.C. Sheedy has done a wonderful job of getting them together, in all ways.
This anthology is a fun read by three authors who are favorites in women's fiction. Each story is well-rounded and none are rushed to completion as can be the case with anthologies. I highly recommend this book to readers who love hot southern men and the women who find them irresistible!

Book Description
Jean LeBlanc had lived in the Louisiana swamp country all his fourteen years. He loved the swamp, just as his father did. Jean had never gone to school, and neither had his father, but Papa taught him what a man needed to know in order to live in the swamp. Jean could shoot alligators, trap muskrats, and catch fish almost as well as any grown man in the bayou.
But things were changing. Big caterpillar tractors were shoving up the black earth and filling the swampland with noise and blue diesel smoke. The state of Louisiana was building a road through the swamp, and the animals were moving farther into the wilds. A man couldn't make a living by hunting and trapping. Papa had to go to work on the offshore oil rigs out in the Gulf of Mexico, and Jean had to look after his mother and sister while Papa was gone.
Taking his father's place proved to be more difficult and dangerous than Jean had imagined. But it was a maturing experience, and it helped Jean to accept the fact that nothing stays the same. Both he and Papa had come to realize that the old way of life was gone, and that for Jean, the new life must include school.

The moving van wrecks and WillaÂ's German Shepherd puppy is rescued by Old Howler, an old gray wolf, with aching dugs, because she has lost her pups to hunters. Pity poor Ned. He's a right fine little cowpoke, but life has been a bit of a rough ride lately. For one thing, his favorite toy has gone missing. And his mother has uprooted him and moved the family off to different pastures. In his new hometown, a bully is making Ned's life miserable. Never fear, however. Ned has the spirit of the Old West in him. Wielding a garden hose instead of a lariat, he puts that bully in his place and then makes things right with his mom. Home on the Bayou is a solid romp for any kid--buckaroo or not--who has had to deal with adversity.

A great read for my kids.......2003-04-24
I was initally attracted by the excellent illustrations and the subject of life in Lousiana. After reading the story, I am pleased with all aspects of this book. My girls, in particular, were intrigued by author McGaw's portrayal of life in the bayou and asked many questions about growing up in different situations. This is an excellent book for both boys and girls.
