Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Book!.......2004-01-10

This book was my first introduction to Knowledge Management. Truthfully, I could not be more pleased! I'm a Director of Sales for a leading insurance company and am responsible for 250 offices across the Northeast U.S. Our organization has struggled for many years with the very issues addressed in this text and I found the insight gained to be invaluable.

It is easy to see that the authors, Groff and Jones, are experienced management professionals. They adeptly and expertly framed the content in an enjoyable and easy to understand manner that is directly applicable in multiple business scenarios. In fact, I utilized several of concepts from the text in developing our annual business plan. Through these initiatives, we expect to improve efficiency and overall productivity resulting in increased profitability for the business unit.

Without a doubt, this text is a tool that will assist my organization in maximizing results in today's quickly changing business environment.

5 out of 5 stars understandable and valuable.......2003-09-01

KM in Business is written in such a manner that it is understandable for even a computer novice such as myself. The applications for small Mom & Pop operations as well as large firms makes it a must have for any business owner. It deserves a place in business classes at college or high school. As an owner of two retail businesses, I find it invaluable.

5 out of 5 stars Knowledge Management Textbook Suitable for Business Studies.......2003-08-26

This is a Knowledge Management Book that covers the foundational components of KM and is laid out in a textbook format. This is a real find for any instructor wishing to add Knowledge Management discussion to an existing business course, or is looking for a text for a KM course. I believe this book would fill either role, and at 29.95 using it as a supplemental text is not unreasonable. Another plus for this book is the instructor's guide that is available from the publisher.

As someone that has taught in the college and business environments, I believe this book is a strong resource for both. I've also searched the web for this title and found that Connecticut Southern State University has adopted this book for a Library Sciences course.

5 out of 5 stars Finally! A textbook for teaching basic KM........2003-08-09

Ideal for untroducing the principles of Knowledge Management to college students or for corporate KM training programs. Complex concepts like systems thinking, attention management, trust building and social networking are explored in the practical context of real world business issues.

A logically organized and easy to read gateway to the exciting new business concept sweeping the nation!

All aspects of the cardamom crop have been covered, and each chapter is written by experts in their respective fields. Book Description

This is a review of one of the most rapidly growing fields of astronomy: gravitational lensing. The book covers not only the specific problems related to finding and understanding lensing and lensing phenomena, but also the applications of gravitational lenses in diverse areas of astronomy and astrophysics. These applications range from the structure of the Milky Way galaxy and its stellar luminosity function, to the structure of elliptical galaxies, clusters, and the size, structure and age of the universe. Contributions include reviews of MACHO searches, lensed radio sources and quasars, microlensing in distant galaxies, constraints on the mass distribution in galaxies, limits on cosmological models, measurements of the Hubble constant, and weak lensing and the masses of clusters. The volume provides a comprehensive synopsis of the state of the art in lens research as well as a summary of lens data, and it is suitable for graduate seminars, introductions to the field of gravitational lensing, and as a reference work for lens researchers.

          Book Description

One of the most serious challenges to environmentalism that has emerged in the 1990s is the so-called Wise Use movement. While operating under the guise of an independent movement of small landowners, it is in reality a backlash against environmental protection measures, funded and organized by corporations with a vested interest in preventing further environmental gains.

Let the People Judge collects the writings of a wide range of thinkers on the Wise Use movement and the controversies that fuel the Wise Use debate.

            Book Description

Moving beyond Mastery of Hand Strength, John Brookfield continues his tradition of breaking new ground in grip training: John's creative new exercises and unbridled enthusiasm are what The Grip Master's Manual is all about. John begins with some general training pointers, including how to practice good hand health, and then shows you how to build your overall upper body and lower arm strength, laying a foundation for the specific hand and lower arm training that follows.

And what follows is typical of John: a wide array of innovative techniques and exercises designed to motivate and challenge you -- and to build your hand strength from every conceivable angle, along with your dexterity and muscle control. John, who invented what are now commonly called "strap holds," is also your guide to "climbing the mountain" to close the No. 3 Captains of Crush Gripper. Finally, John leads you through the consummate grip master's repertoire: bending steel bars, bending horseshoes, coiling and scrolling iron, bending nails, and even tearing cards.

John wrote this book to help you take your hand strength to the next level, and if you follow his advice, we're sure you will get there and then some. If you want to be a grip master in the true sense of the word, get your hands on The Grip Master's Manual and then go out and crush a can of Coke.

4 out of 5 stars This guy is insane..........2006-09-18

Upon purchasing and reading through this book, I have come to the conclusion that the author is insane!

Brookfield really takes a "backwoods" approach to his training. For the most part there is no fancy machines or complex contraptions that he uses to build grip and hand strength...Much of it revolves around using bricks or long pieces of boards to create resistance...sounds easy but it's not.

I will admit that despite having read the book, I haven't put alot of effort into building my grip strength. It seemed to me that it would require plenty of dedication to accomplish so I never truly persued it.

Apparently this guy is an expert in the field...Being that there aren't many books available on this topic, it's worth reading and seeing if any of the training methods work for you.

            5 out of 5 stars 122 Pages of Excellence.......2005-09-07

This book is THE book when it comes to grip training and becoming a well rounded athlete. Brookfield lays this book out very logically starting with a section on getting ready. He then progresses through: Advanced Lower Arm and Grip Training; Advanced Grip Challenges; and Steel Bending. No matter where you turn to this book is filled with helpful tips and ideas to get your workouts going.

I can honestly say this book and the ironmind grippers have already improved my hand strength immensely. I would highly recommend this book and look forward to acquiring Brookfield's other book "Mastery of Hand Strength."

5 out of 5 stars The Master shares his secrets.......2005-05-30

John Brookfield IS Mr. Hands. He is also a very sharing person who will gladly help others to succeed. The Grip Master's Manual is a superb book with many unusual ideas for exercise and hand health. If you are interested in building a stronger grip, you MUST read this book. If you're not interested in building a stronger grip, you are probably not interested in performing near the top in any athletic endeavours. In a nutshell, if you want to be better at almost anything that requires use of your hands, you should build your grip and this book is a true asset. Highly recommended.

5 out of 5 stars Why You Need To Do Grip Training!.......2005-03-31

Let me say that I have not read Brookfields other book "Mastery of Hand Strength" and was a little hesitant to buy this book when I heard that I would have to construct equipment myself. I am a complete klutz when it comes to carpentry or anything of the nature and didn't like the idea of constructing anything. Believe me, my fears were misplaced. Most of the tools that you need are laying around your yard.

If you are into bodybuilding, please dont ignore grip training, because you think it will not improve your appearance. Grip training has the been the best thing that has happened to building up my forearms. Not only are mine getting bigger after a mere two months of grip training, but they are becoming highly vascularized as well. Grip exercises are far superior to wrist curls. The only gadget you might want to buy is one of the grippers from Ironmind at http://www.ironmind.com. Brookfield has a column he writes for that website and you might determine if you would like to explore grip training further by reading some of his articles there.

            Book Description

Besides the main author, the contributors to this Grimoire read like a "Who's Who" of modern magickians, and include such notables as Raymond Buckland, Raven Grimassi, Amber K, and Donald Michael Kraig, among others. These varying viewpoints and expertise make for a balanced presentation and, like a good school, for an ability to maintain interest levels by having changes of pace and style.

Designed as an Apprentice-level program of studies, this book is aimed at the same folks who find Harry Potter so fascinating - those young (and young at heart) people who want to be more in control of their world.

It is broken down into seven separate "Courses" - Wizardry, Nature, Practice, Rites, Spectrum Part 1, Spectrum Part 2, and Lore. It further contains a set of appendices - A History of Magick Time Line, The Wizard's Library, Credits and References, and an Index. Each of the Courses is further broken down into six or seven "classes" (a total of 45). Be prepared to put in some serious study time and effort if you want to take advantage of the material herein!

Like Hogwarts, this book is arranged and scheduled to take seven years to complete. To the younger reader, I must say that there are good reasons for this, not the least being that one needs to become proficient in the basics before moving on.

Many youngsters may be put off by the work expected of them in the early going. Where are the charms? Where are the incantations in mystic languages? Where are the rewards? Well, just like having to finish your veggies before getting dessert; just like needing to learn basic math before moving on to algebra; just like laying a foundation before building a home; you need to acquire the basic knowledge of the magickal world before getting into the "good stuff."

As you work your way through this book (and make no mistake, you will work your way through it!), you may find yourself longing for the carefree days of school. The concepts contained within are easy to read, simple to absorb, and consuming to understand. If you think "Apprentice" means easy-to-do, think again. You will find yourself being fed a diet of ideas which may well force you to alter your perception of the universe.

Oberon covers everything from creating your magickal tools to planting and caring for a garden (Anyone who doesn't see gardening as a magickal act should consider the transformation of a seed into a plant and on to your table.); from learning to survive in the woods to learning to recognize Elementals. And all of that before he even begins to address the actual practice of magick.

Course One, Class One, Lesson Three ("1.I.3: Glossary" to use Oberon's notation system) is a handy glossary of types of Wizards which covers everything from Bards and Cybermancers to Wiccans and Wizards. If there is a description of a magick worker in the English language, it is in this glossary.

Scattered throughout this book are tables of correspondences. There are a number of them, arranged in a variety of formats, and covering a wide range of topics. There are also a large number of illustrations, many of them (almost half, in fact) from the fertile mind and hands of Oberon.

When he actually begins to discuss working magick, he takes the time to explain how and why it works. He relates it to things that all teens can relate to, and puts it firmly in the realm of things which are able to be done by anyone willing to put in the time and effort.

He explains how to set up altars (both indoors and outdoors), how to construct shrines and henges, and other items as well. He includes basic instructions on a wide variety of healing techniques. He adds constant encouragement, in the form of reassurances that practice is required, and not to get discouraged if you don't get immediate results.

This book is aimed at the total spectrum of Wizardry (like Hogwarts). It does not just cover the Ceremonial aspects of magick. It covers the spectrum from invoking angels and demons to doing simple divination; from creating planetary talismans to simple remedies for acne; and from alchemy to conjury (stage magic). Reading this book will provide a thorough understanding of Wizardry. Completing the work within this book will provide a thorough mastery of the basics of Wizardry.

He divides magick into the colors of the rainbow and more: Meditation (aqua); Healing (blue); Wortcunning (green); Divination (yellow); Conjury (orange); Alchemy (red); Beast Mastery (brown); Cosmology (violet); Mathemagicks (clear); Ceremonial Magick (white); Lore Mastery (grey); and the Black Arts (black). Thus, by adopting tabards or robes of the appropriate color Wizards who follow this system will be able to immediately identify the specialty of those they encounter.

Mythology is covered extensively, as are world religious views. While some may question their inclusion in a grimoire, it is vital for the apprentice to understand all that may be encountered in the performance of magick. Because of the vast amount of energy devoted to these topics over the millennia, they have a valid existence on other planes, and the magickian must be prepared to deal with them.

As with any competent teacher, Oberon not only expects you to complete the assigned exercises, but also assigns outside reading and independent research. He lets you know early on that there will be both theory and practice involved in progressing through this work, and both are equally important. He makes every effort to balance his opinions and beliefs, which he is careful to identify as such, with the opinions and beliefs of others covering a wide spectrum.

For those with limited cash available, he lists many websites where information may be found. Even the most cash-strapped individuals can (and SHOULD) obtain a library card and avail themselves of the resources available there, in the form of internet access, books, magazines, etc.

Gee...Are we reeaally going to compare something that is supposed to be a legitimate spiritual or religious practice with (yipes!) Harry F'n Potter??? For kryse sake! Like the pagan community doesn't get enough derogatory Harry Potter comments from the (gasp!) "muggles".

Put the gd Harry Potter books down and pick up some Earth for goddess' sake and quite comparing the pagan worship and or communing with deity and spirits to Fn Harry Potter and Star Wars and all of that other BS.... Sheesh...

            5 out of 5 stars One Wizard's Journey.......2007-08-19

Oh, how I wish this book had been around in 1960.

That was the time I began my own quest, pounding against the barriers of "reality" and social convention. I was a kid, computers didn't exist, and secret trips to an inner-city library were the best I could manage. I spent years going from the usual rewrites of the Salem trials on thru the usual medieval Grimoires (arf, barf, thank you) and finally getting a breath of fresh air with Dr. LaVey's "The Satanic Bible."

I remained a follower of the Left Hand Path for some ten years, then abandoned all such stuff during a philosophical and physical life-crisis. Later on, I came to decide that I was Grey. I never cared for the fluff-bunnyism of "white witchcraft", and like others of the LHP, tended to laugh at those who feared the Dark Side of the Force. I broke my allegiances to the Dark Side for sound reasons, however, and thought I was probably the only Grey on the planet.

And then, years later, home computers became commonplace, I got dragged into the computer age kicking and screaming, and by sheer accident, came across Oberon's book.

Oberon and I had corresponded back in snail-mail days, and although we'd been on "opposite ends" we found that we got on quite well. I understand that a number of Left-Hand folks are seriously angry about his comments regarding Satanists and others, finding them to be "untrustworthy." All the Satanists I knew (and I used to know a great many, in Detroit and around the country) were almost Klingon-like in their concern for personal honor. The new breed that makes it up as they go along, depending on how many videos they've seen on Empty-Vee, well, I suspect that lot would give me pause. So, I understand where both sides of that argument are coming from.

But the Grimoire is not about Right vs Left, Darkness vs Light. It is about recognizing all those various aspects of Life, and about Learning. Curiously, it is not about pushing "religion" of any sort; it offers to respect all, and quotes from a wide variety of them. When it comes to Basic Magickal Principles (emphasis mine,) there is no better source. Ditto, in regard to Magickal tools and accoutrements. I spent decades trying to put sources like this all together for myself.

So, no matter what one's personal path may be, I think you'll find this book, and its Companion volume, to be of inestimable value. If you're a young person fresh out of the movie theatre, looking for a magickal school that exists in the "real" world, you need at last look no further.

Your own journey should be considerably easier than mine was, thanks to the efforts of Prof. Ravenheart and his associates -- and I am now proud to count myself among them.

5 out of 5 stars Best Basic Guideline Book for New Students of Modern Wizardry & Witchcraft.......2007-08-18

This guidebook for aspiring wizard apprentices is quite good.Oberon Ravenheart once stated that there needs to be some academic structure for the path towards the earned title of "Master Wizard".It seems some followers of Wicca were showing off their toliet-paper credentials they had aquired from dubious hucksters. The way i see it,is that some academic wizard workshops are more respected than others. The test of time reveals the soundness of one's learning experience from a particular pagan scholar. This is not a dry gothic academic grimoire, yet an entertaining primer to get curious seekers aquainted with the pagan scene. There are excellent drawings throughtout.Ravenheart ,and his wife Morning Glory, also have an excellent video available, entitled 'Sharing Waters'.It's distributed by the 'School of Wicca', established by Gavin Frost and his wife Yvonne. Some readers may find this book to be too elementary and puerile however.

5 out of 5 stars He puts the Wizard in wizardry!.......2007-01-29

This is a great book for young and old alike. Master Ravenheart puts his heart and soul into sharing his knowledge in an easily read and understood manner. The information is well laid out and well organized.

5 out of 5 stars Grimoire For The Apprentice Wizard.......2007-01-08

This is the book that I use to teach with. The Grey Council that helped put this book together is like the cream of the whole Magick crop, and with all types of Magick included, everyone would do well to use and study this book. Witches, Wizards, Druids, Shamans, all put this book together. The best thing about it is that it is non-denominational, almost non-religious. If more books would take religion out of life, it would be best for all.

This is such a good book I could not put it down even to just go to the bathroom! in it 1/2 the kids at SVMS will be moved to a new school and none of the kids know who will be moving. to say good bye they have a party and when playing a game of truth or dare they find out a lot of new stuff about each other. as a person who LOVES truth or dare I thought it was really cool and if you read some of the other books you will hear about some stuff that happened in them.also I did not know that this was a Super special so you should know that its one.

This book deals with the twins's and freind's happiness and sadness that the SVMS may be split up. The whole eighth grade goes on a camping trip to secca lake and the twins learn a special lesson from old Native American twins that own a bakery.

5 out of 5 stars You should read this book!.......1998-08-24

I think that it is a great book, but it's not exactly how they explain it on the back of the book. It doesn't make sense, a truth more shocking than any dare. That's not how it seems in the end
