In the last thirty years, there has been a gradual erosion in the abilities and responsibilities of corporate boards. In addition to the ethics scandals that have plagued companies both new and established over the last three years, a number of over-diversified, over-staffed companies experienced failures that might have been avoided had there been proper oversight on the part of the board. While reform of the governance system has received considerable attention from the press, business leaders, and politicians, there have been few analyses of what is really happening on a systemic level, and even fewer workable suggestions for reform.
The Recurrent Crisis in Corporate Governance provides an expert assessment of what went wrong on corporate boards and how to fix them. The book begins with both a legal and economic examination of corporate governance during the last three decades, including the broad issue of boards taking on responsibilities without being able to fulfill their obligations because of the lack of access to information and people within the corporation. The authors then go on to show the correlation between strong board performance and strong company performance, make the case for separating the CEO and Chair positions, comment on the collapse of nine major corporations, including Global Crossing, K-Mart, Lucent, and Qwest, and provide suggestions on how boards can be more effective stewards of the shareholders’ and public’s trust.

Ira M. Millstein is a legend in the corporate governance field. Paul W. MacAvoy is a prolific author and highly regarded authority on government regulation and corporate conduct. Simply put, this book is one of the best in its field. Another important corporate governance leader provides a rare inside glimpse into the corporate boardroom. To gain a perspective of an active leader in corporate governance, I highly advise you to read Compliance and Conviction: The Evolution of Enlightened Corporate Governance by Curtis J. Crawford, Ph.D. In his book, Dr. Crawford provides a historical perspective on the topic while focusing on succession planning, chief executive officer (CEO) supervision, executive compensation, and director independence. He discusses in detail the three types of boards typically found in the corporation and their directors. I think you will be enlightened.

As difficult as it is to make an argument regarding the economic impact corporate governance policies and procedures may have, this book makes a compelling arguement that good governance results in more profit. The combination of real life experience provided by Ira Millstein with the academic analysis produced by Paul MacAvoy's work presents different perspectives that arrive at the same conclusion. I enjoyed it. Necessary reading for anyone serious about corporate governance.

This is an older running book. I bought it together the brilliant 'chi running' which is much more recent. I thought it was dated at first, but I gave it a chance and it was worth the time. It did help my technique, as I was training for a first marathon. I valued the contribution, but don't make this your only training manual.

A sports medicine PH D told me I wouldn't be able to run again ...but I proved him wrong!! Due to bad calcium deposits, the doctor told me that the pain would grow and grow until I wouldn't be able to run again.
I think you are supposed to go through the exercises twice but I did them only once, 20 min a day for 20-24 days.
I am no athlete but since then, I ran a Full Marathon, several Half-marathons and plenty of ten millers. That was 3 years ago, I still run between 20 - 40 miles a week. I run pain free, worst case I get a slight discomfort that I can't tell if it is from regular training for the past ailment anymore.
This book is about how to move efficiently. Maybe, I just changed the way of moving that caused the problem.
I Improved Significantly After the First Chapter.......2000-11-22
The book applies the Feldenkrais method to running in a very logical way. It begins with the big picture, and then focuses on the details. The exercises in this book are well thought out, and WILL make a difference in your running. I noticed a significant improvement after only the first chapter, and I just kept improving with each subsequent chapter. You begin by studying the relationship between the upper and lower body while walking. The shoulders should move in a direction opposite the hips. Most people, myself included, do not do this properly and it affects breathing and everything else involved in running. I spent an evening working on this, and immediately noticed a huge improvement in my running. Breathing suddenly became easier, and my stride became less jarring. Through each chapter, the improvements continued. This book is a must for every runner. It will make all the difference.
Finally free your body.......1999-12-16
This book takes you through a thorough series of Feldenkrais exercises to open up your movement in your running. He not only shows and tells you how to find a healthy, easy running style, he gets you to feel it. Using the exercises in this book I eliminated knee pain I've had for years and finally got rid of the pain from an upper back injury no specialist seemed able to fix. I have to say thanks to Jack Heggie for writing this book.

Over the past year, I have purchased a number of professional resources on the topic of literacy instruction, including more well-known books by Patricia Cunningham, Fountas and Pinnell and Tony Stead. This book is the one I turn to most often for straight-forward, research-based information and guidance. Although I'm uncertain as to whether or not it is a requisite resource for teachers in training, I wouldn't be at all surprised if it were a staple in universities and colleges. It's not the "lightest" read at times, but it's concise, clear and offers exactly what the title promises.

Five Go Off to Camp is a great book but in my imagination I do not like the look of Lewis and Tiger Dan! I have read other Famous Five books and liked this one the best. It was very exciting and very risky but the brave Five never stop their adventure. I did not think there would be any thieves in this adventure but something always pops out in their holidays! Don't stop now Five! You have got plenty more adventures to come! If you're sensitive about cruelty to dogs you may not want to read it.

I found this book very exciting. My favourite character is George, who is never afraid of anything, and Timmy the dog who always comes to the rescue. In this story I found the spook trains very spooky, and enjoyed imagining them racing undergrond! However, I did not like the fact that the adventure seemed so short.

This book is completely worth the money... You'll have fun reading it! I got hooked on it right when I started, this book has it all... action, suspense, adventure etc.
