McGann and Weaver have done a commendable job in advancing our understanding of the role think tanks play in the policy formulation process. This book should be required reading for policy makers and students of public policy alike. Well done, an excellent resource for domestic and international policy wonks who want to know the lay of the land of think tanks at home and abroad. McGann and Weaver outline the historical context and create a clear and comprehensive typology of think tanks. Then they to 29 contributors to provide a world tour of think tanks. The breadth and depth of this book is truly impressive

McGann and Weaver are two of the leading scholars on think tanks and they have done an excellent job of painting the think tank landscape around the world. Thinks Tanks and Civil Societies: Catalyst for Ideas and Action is a comparative study of public policy research organizations and their role in public policy process around the world that deserves to be read by scholars and practioners alike. I found the regional overview chapters to be particularily informative. This book has a wealth of information in it and will prove to be an inportant reference work on the subject. I recommended it highly for domestic and international donors who support these institutions, policy makers and the media who use their products and pundits and the public who relies on them for ideas and action.

Falsetto's guide to Kubrick is as Dante's to the Inferno: that is, DIVINE. Never mind the price, this book is worth it! Easy to read, scene breakdowns ( sometimes shot-by-shot ), and narrative patterns. Read another review for what they're like, I won't waste time trying to recite something too perfect to recite:
This is the DEFINATIVE Kubrick book. It offers descriptions from The Killing to Eyes Wide Shut, and it does a good job. Thank you God for Stanley Kubrick, and thank you God for Mario Falsetto

Fresh look at Kubrick's masterpieces.......2002-11-29
Falsetto blends thoughtful, intellectual critques of Kubrick's work focusing on his editing choices and the tension between subjective and objective storytelling. It is by far the first comprehensive analysis of Eyes Wide Shut to be included in a book on Kubrick's style. Falsetto's discourse illuminates previous themes that never occurred to me such as the fact that the narrator in Barry Lyndon probably represents the eighteenth century aristocratic viewpoint, and therefore is not really an objective storyteller at all. Falsetto's articulate analysis of Kubrick's narrative themes are completely engrossing and fascinating without ever getting lost in technical jargon. His analysis is particularly right on when discussing such an underappreciated work such as Full Metal Jacket. He argues that Kubrick was aiming for hyperrealism, and that many of the scenes seem very surreal thus penetrating the heart of what war is about. I highly recommend this thoughtful and well thought out book to anyone interested in a fresh look at one of the greatest filmmakers who ever lived.
Much more than an hommage........1999-05-05
Falsetto really takes us inside the creative process of the Stanley Kubrick with his book STANLEY KUBRICK: A NARRATIVE AND STYLISTIC ANALYSIS. It is more than just an hommage to the late film master (there are plenty of those out there already), rather, it is a clever and insightful excursion into what makes Kubrick one of the great film artist of all time. The author is tracing the stylistic development of Kubrick's career, through carefully selected examples from some of his powerful films (THE KILLING, PATHS OF GLORY, LOLITA, 2001, A CLOCKWORK ORANGE, BARRY LYNDON among others). At the same time, he brillantly analyzes the way Kubrick is telling us story with images and sound, his method for organizing the material into a structured and conceptual cinematic "whole". STANLEY KUBRICK: A NARRATIVE AND STYLISTIC ANALYSIS should be seen as a serious (but nevertheless entertaining) investigation into the heart of Kubrick's work, and I strongly recommend it to anyone who appreciate good comprehensive writing about the master.
One of the best looks at Kubrick's work........1998-12-01
An in-depth review of the narrative and style (hence the title!) of Stan the Man. This book covers several Kubrick films(The Killing, Lolita, Barry Lyndon, etc), and it focuses on and is arranged by topic (eg filmic narration, patterns of organization, etc) rather than by individual film. An excellent study that should be on your bookshelf.

An excellent and "must Have" addition to any boating library. For a small, easily read book, there is a tremendous amount of useful information from tying knots to the dynamics of a prop.
Not so Technical and Plenty Informative.......2004-05-11
Mr. Wing covers it all, engines, transmissions, steering systems, windvanes, auto pilots, anchors, windlasses, pumps, boat heads, fresh water systems and so much more in this illustrated tour of an average cruising boat. If you live afloat then this is an indispensable book for you, one you'll go to often, both for enjoyment, because it is beautifully done, and for an education into how the various systems, machines, thing-a-ma-bobs and do-dads do their jobs on your boat. Just how does that bilge pump work? It's in there. That and just about anything else you can imagine. In conclusion I'd say that even if nothing's broke, this is a good book to browse through with a sundowner. Not so technical and plenty informative and enjoyable. And besides, wouldn't you really be a lot better of out there if you knew how all the stuff on your boat actually worked?

Some errors, but a good text/workbook combo.......2005-08-12
This Spanish Two book moves rather quickly, but if you liked Spanish Now Level 1, I think you'd like this one as well. It's more advanced than the basic High School Spanish 2 Public School Textbooks (at least in Texas), and expects that you're fairly well-versed in most Grammar points from Level 1, but allows for a little review here and there.
I like the set up, but the vocabulary list per lesson is overwhelming at times for any high schooler. I would not suggest using this book with any student under the 10th grade level. Private tutors, as another reviewer said, will benefit greatly from it, and I have used it in my own small private classes, but I supplement with other materials, and go fairly slow, to ensure absorption. As a review for someone who wants to brush up on their Spanish 2 knowledge, I think it would be excellent. On your own, as a first time Spanish 2 student, you'd have to be VERY motivated, but the stories at the beginning of each lesson make it worth the money, I believe.
For much younger students, try Flip Flop Spanish.
Not for use without a teacher.......2004-07-09
I have Kendris' book of verbs and it's a good straight forward resource. The Spanish Now! Series is very common at the large bookstores and I picked it up because unlike most bookstore titles it had a level two book for intermediate students. What I find difficult is that as a bookstore title it really is designed as a textbook for a class room situation; not really surprising given Barrons' business segment. Be that as it may, this makes the book nearly impossible to use for self-study. In every chapter there are examples and exercises where you're supposed to converse with a classmate or listen to what the instructor reads to you. Beyond that, the exercises are repetitive and uninteresting. For self-guided study look elsewhere.
Spanish Now! level 2.......2003-07-09
I know several students that are using this book for private lessons ,and they found it extremely useful.They can use at home or in class, there is no tricks, the chart table for irregular verbs is great!Also the brief explanation of each issue in alphabetical order at the end of the book ,is an excellent source.The exercises in each Unit enhance the learning process. I strongly recommend this book( level 2) for intermediate students.Congratulations to the author!.Please, publish, Spanish Now! level 3!.
Life-long Spanish student.......2003-04-29
I have used Barron's Educational Series' materials ever since junior high and up through graduate school teaching undergraduate Spanish. Spanish Now!: Level 2 is a good supplementary text. I have written a review to Barron's of 11-pages' length wherein I have detailed some grammar mistakes and other points to be improved. Let it be said that almost every textbook or dictionary is necessarily a work in progress. With that said, Barron's/Kendris commit horrible errors when it comes to the constituency of the Spanish alphabet post-1994 reforms. The alphabet consisted of 29 letters before the reform, and 29 letters after the reform. There are other minor accent mark and spelling errors in the work and I hope Barron's will improve the next edition/printing when it comes out. This is still a worthwhile book for intermediate students of Spanish.

One of my favorite books.......2004-07-30
Or it used to be, back in the 1990s, when youth pastor Rod Randall was writing up a storm with his famous "Heebie Jeebies" series. In this series Christ also has the power to rid the world of werewovles, piranha fish, or serial killers.
I wonder what happened to Pastor Randall, he was so reliable, he not only did the great "Heebie Jeebies" books, but he also had a great series called, "The Misadventures of Willien Plunkett" which wasn't so Stephen King and was more pleasant to read and preached the virtues of Christ even more wholeheartedlty. But maybe the market is soft right now for such tales. I hardly see any kids reading Rod Randall books right now, they're going for the video games.

I really enjoyed this book. It was very cool to read. I was glad it was a Christian based book because my mom doesn't allow me to read the Harry Potter books. Parts of the book were kinda spooky. It was a great book to read on the airplane. It made the time go by fast and kept me entertained.
