An excellent textbook for an introductory geography class.......2003-09-04

This is an excellent textbook for an introductory geography class. The first chapter is a general introduction with an explanation of some of the terms and vocabulary used. The second chapter covers world physical geography. The rest of the chapters each covers a different region of the world. Each chapter is divided into five sections: environment, population and settlement, culture, geopolitics, and economic and social development. This book describes the details of the different regions of the world and gives us a good idea of what life is like in these different regions. And, it ties what we learn about the different regions to the overall theme of diversity and globalization. The accompanying maps and photographs are beautiful.

I agree with the previous review. Rich Hendey has truly redefined the sport of sea kayaking while staying remarkably in tune with kayak novices. I once saw this guy execute a triple barrel roll in rough seas with 6 foot swells and he never lost his sunglasses! Word is that Hendey is contemplating a ride over Niagara Falls this summer (the first ever for a kayak). I don't know if that is true or not, but if there is one guy who could pull it off it is "Whammo" Hendey.

Also, Hendey will be inducted this fall into the Sea Kayaking Hall Of Fame in New Oxford, PA.

If you read just one book this year, let this be it. It's enough to make you want to quit your job, give up disco dancing for good and just paddle, baby.

Anyone who knows anything about kayaking knows that Rich Hendey is the ultimate authority on the sport. I met Rich in 1986 in Gettysburg, PA. He helped me master the treacherous waters in and around the area. This is a guy who I have spent lots of one on one time with. He used to say to me, "Housely, there is only one way to kayak -- all the way!" This attitude permeates his writings on the sport.

For those who are unaware, Rich gained a fair amount of notoriety in the 1980's as club and party DJ under the name DJ Whammo. He soon chucked that lifestyle and got back to nature. I heartily endorse this book.

Perhaps the greatest value of this book lies in the discussion of how tapers are arrived at and how to plot them to get the action desired. The taper tables that are included are of value not only to the new rod builder, but also to anyone who is interested in building a "new" rod from the sections of vintage rods, as they are of value in determing which taper dimensions among disparate sections will be a "best fit" for a functional new rod. --- I'm giving this product 4 stars based on other reviews, but what I really want to make is a suggestion and not a review. They should have one of this for English language. There are some people (like myself, for example) that doesn't live in the United states but still buy stuff over the internet. I live in Panama and the first language here is Spanish, I would very much like to get the English version of this product so my child learns basics and, overall, pronunciation in English that's so difficult for people who speak Spanish. ---

I love these CDs by Dr. Levy and Randomhouse. I own all 3. In fact, I have been lobbying to get them to make more in other languages than Spanish, French and Italian. Maybe if you're from Italy and speak/read Italian so that you can find resources from Italy diretly and know people who can send them to you from Italy, that this wouldn't be your first choice product. But I have spent weeks upon weeks looking for materials for my now 19-month old to learn foreign languages, and there is nothing better out there available in the United States than the Baby's First Step series. Great way to introduce Italian to a newborn!.......2006-02-07

I am an Italian speaker and have been looking for creative ways to teach our newborn (now 2 months old) Italian. This CD has been a great resource - it is fun for both child and parent, has a great mix of songs and tongue twisters, and the accompanying booklet has been helpful for my husband (who is learning Italian) to follow along. I highly recommend it. It is a staple at our home particulary during dinnertime to keep baby content (she coos to the CD now!) while learning basic phonic skills that will help her in the future to speak Italian.

do not buy it.......2006-01-31

I am Italian and I thought about buying it, since I do not have much babies' Italian music here in Los Angeles and I am not planning any trip soon. Now, the CD has such an old fashon music with vocabulary that we do not use anymore. Plus, few songs are read instead of sung (I think not to pay copyrights or something like that) which makes it absolutely bad. Some songs are not even sung by Italians and the pronunciation of words is not correct!!! I played only once and then put it in a drawer and I'll never pick it up again. Thank God my mom is coming and she is going to bring REAL italian music for children. THe one I want my baby to listen to and sing along with.

Great Teaching Tool.......2007-06-07

My toddler son is attending a French pre-school and we plan to enroll him in a French primary school as well. We don't know French at all and speak English in the home. We got this CD around his 2nd birthday and it has been a valuable tool. The songs and rhymes that are on the CD are the same songs and rhymes that he sings at school. I think this CD has helped him to learn faster and be able to "fit in" at school, when we, his parents, could not offer him any thing in this subject area!
The songs are very pleasant and not torture to parental ears, and the accents are authentic. This is 100% French language with no spoken English. However the CD does come with a booklet with the lyrics in both French and English, so if you don't now any French at all, you can read it and get some idea about what your little one is singing!

I love this CD. It is fun, very nice songs and rhymes. Very easy to follow. My kids listen to it every day in the car and in a month they are singing and counting in french.

The method is so wonderful that I just ordered the one for Chinese.

My 9mo. old loves this CD as much as I do. I studied French for 4 yrs and learned more from the songs on this CD! I like it because I don't get sick of it and find myself humming the songs when the CD is not on! I haven't bothered with the books yet but hopefully will get to them before baby finishes high school.

A little bit disappointed.......2007-05-04

I just got this item yesterday and have not had a chance yet to go through the book but my first reaction is a little bit of disappointment.
I may not have read the exact description of the product but I was expecting a board baby book with lyrics and pictures and not a guide for parents that I am sure is nonetheless very interesting. We have another CD with a board book and it is truly amazing; The book is colourful and some of the songs are interpreted by children which is the second thing I was expecting from this product. It is so much fun to listen to those cute little voices instead of those quite boring adult voices.
The only thing I like about this CD is that it has a lot of songs and rhymes that I grew up with and I am glad that my son will be able to learn them because for most of them I had forgotten the lyrics.

Excellent for newborns!.......2007-03-29

This CD is wonderful! I find a lot of products for children 2 and older but this product is geared specifically towards children ages 2 and younger who are learning another language. My degree is in French, so I understand the CD, and I think that the things that it teaches are excellent! It exposes children to sounds specific to french, like the double l which is pronounced y, the ever-problematic french "r", as well as idiomatic things like "Trois" as the number three as well as "toi" used as the informal you. Best of all it is all done in a fun way through songs, rhymes, etc. I put this CD on every night when my daughter goes to bed and we both really enjoy it!! I think I'm going to buy the Spanish and Italian ones too!
