Customer Reviews:
another great Labor book.......2007-03-29
This book was a great book as well and easy to read. (I like those!) It was a required book for a labor course I took in College. I can see why it was required. Excellent choice!
What the fascist media won't tell you about taxes.......2005-11-09
If you want to save the U.S. from falling into a European style system of misusing high sales tax against the working class, read this book and build some ideas to fight back the fascists in the media and government who are doing everything they can to socialize poverty, crime, and terrorism while at the same time privatizing your money and security. It's your choice. Learn the economic facts from this book and help take back America or be prepared to watch our country fall like the fall of the Roman empire but in a matter of a few decades than a few centuries.
excellent book!.......2005-06-11
I never took an economics course in college and have frankly been stymied by most economic books. But this book is intelligent and understandable--it helps all of us see what is going on around us.
wishy-washy liberals.......2003-02-22
contrary to the idiots below, i don't think this bok is spreading "communist" ideas at all. it's all too wishy-washy and if anything, will inspire people to join the democratic party, i.e. one of the two parties of capital and the ruling elite. the book tends to gloss over the real issues of class, power, and inequality and goes for an analysis that breaks the population down into "quintiles" of income. for what? if you're a centrist or liberal you might like this, but for radicals and anti-capitalists looking for good analysis, this won't be very helpful at all.
An informative and helpful overview.......2002-06-20
...
Collins and Yeskel do a superb job in showing why multinational corporations are progressively extending the gap between rich and poor, both in this country and abroad. The power of the multinationals is incredible; of the 100 largest economies in the world, 51 are corporate. Governments increasingly cater to multinationals, rewriting environmental and tax laws in order to encourage them to do business. Even the supposedly liberal Clinton--who, after all, enthusiastically brought us NAFTA--bought into (or should it be "sold out to") the corporate line that "the business of government is business." This attitude creates huge wealth for a very few, but the old claim that this wealth trickles down to benefit others is simply false, and Collins and Yeskel give facts and figures to demonstrate its falsity.
In short, the book is an invaluable read for anyone concerned with questions of social justice. sustainability, and old-fashioned economic survival. It tends to be a bit redundant in places, but this may be more of a merit than otherwise in a primer that really does summarize a dizzying amount of information. Readers who wish to explore the case against multinationals in more depth may wish to consult works like Derber's *Corporation Nation* or Korten's *When Corporations Rule the World.* E.F. Schumacher's classic *Small Is Beautiful* is also still well worth taking a look at.

Customer Reviews:
A superb analysis.......2007-04-15
This was written in the 1970s but discusses some of the same themes that became popular in the 1990s, i.e. that the Great Pyramid was not a tomb and that the ancient Egyptians and other ancient civilization were far more advanced than mainstream archaeologists will admit. Although this book never garnered much attention in the 1970s, it was the spiritual predecessor to Graham Hancock's "Fingerprints of the Gods".
Fix was a very bright guy and did a good job of supporting his theories. This book is not new age psycho babble like "When the Sky Fell", nor is it inclined toward unsupported flights of fancy like some of the von Daniken ideas, but instead is a well researched, carefully analyzed look at ancient civilizations. Fix lays to rest with some finality the idea that the Great Pyramid was a tomb.

From the author: Cleistogamy, a breeding system in which permanently closed, self-pollinated flowers are produced, has received increasing attention in recent years, but the last comprehensive review of this system was over 20 years ago. The goal of this paper is to clarify the different types of cleistogamy, quantify the number of families, genera, and species in which cleistogamy occurs, and estimate the number of times and potential reasons why cleistogamy has evolved within angiosperms. Cleistogamous species were identified through a literature survey using 13 online databases with references dating back to 1914; only those species well-supported by floral descriptions or empirical data were included in the data set. On the basis of this survey, we suggest the use of three different categories of cleistogamy in future studies: dimorphic, complete, and induced. Based on these categories, cleistogamy in general is present in 693 angiosperm species, distributed over 228 genera and 50 families. When analyzed on a family level across the angiosperms, the breeding system has evolved approximately 34 to 41 times. Theoretical investigations indicate that the evolution of cleistogamy in taxa may be influenced by the presence of heterogeneous environments, inbreeding depression and geitonogamy, and differential seed dispersal, as well as by various ecological factors and plant size. Cleistogamy will undoubtedly be discovered in additional species as the reproductive biology of more taxa is examined in the future. Such information will be invaluable for understanding the selective pressures and factors favoring the evolution of cleistogamy as well as the evolutionary loss of this breeding system, a subject that has received little attention to date.

Book Description
The White-Inyo Range--rising sharply from the eastern edge of Owens Valley--is one of the most extraordinary landscapes in the world. High, dry, and amazingly diverse, it boasts an expansive alpine tundra and features the oldest living species on earth--the 4,000-year-old Bristlecone Pines. This colorful and authoritative volume assembles a wealth of information of deep interest to the hikers and scientists attracted to White-Inyo's altitude and isolation.
The nearly two dozen contributors to the volume are leading experts on the flora and fauna, the geology, geomorphology, meteorology, anthropology, and archaeology of the area. The book offers descriptions of more than 650 kinds of living organisms, from the handful of fish to the abundance of reptile, amphibian, bird and plant species. (It provides descriptions of hundreds of flowering plants.) It contains an 8-color geologic map and a roadside guide that enables the visitor to make sense of the area's complex geological history. Readers will also learn about air currents that make the range a delight for sailplane pilots and create strange cloud formations. And a special chapter tells what is known of the Native Americans who moved up and down the mountain slopes in response to seasonal changes.
For anyone who wishes to visit this astonishing area or to do research there, this volume will be a unique, comprehensive resource.
Customer Reviews:
The White - Inyo Range.......2000-08-22
The eastern slope of the Sierra Nevada and the White Mountains are fascinating geologically and biologically. Years ago we were graduate students working on the eastern slope. Revisiting this summer we used this book as a guide to places, the plants and animals. From the bristlecone pines to the wildflowers and trees around Mammoth Lakes and Convict Lake the book was a wonderful source. We used it to find the names of birds, trees, and flowers along the trails we hiked. We brushed up on geology before visiting Devil's Postpile, Hot Creek, and the rest of the Long Valley Caldera. I would strongly recommend this book to any one interested in the Owens Valley and the eastern slope of the Sierra Nevada and the White Mountains. The region is fascinating and the book represents it well.
Book Description
Using a lively style and the languages of transpersonal psychology, meditation, esoteric magic, and kundalini, Glenn Morris recounts his amazing adventures and hair-raising close calls while training and then practicing as a master of martial arts. Following in the tradition of the legendary Togakure Ryu of Japan, whose fighting techniques and lore inspired the fascination of westerners with Ninja warriors, he offers guidelines on how to tell sham from authenticity, how to keep friends while developing power, how to voyage safely into the inner landscape, and how to deal with dark forces-incarnate and disincarnate. At the same time, he provides exercises, tests, and adventures for the courageous-as well as spiritual and ethical compass.
Customer Reviews:
Bizarre and Unlikely.......2007-07-03
It gets at least one star for sheer wacky entertainment value. I've read all his books and they are simply too bizarre and wacky for the author to expect a rational person to believe. Add to that various things that are bogus and u cant expect a favorable review. For example the author claimed a black belt in Chi Kung (or Qi Gong) yet there is no such thing. In another book he claims he and his mentors fight aliens telepathically... Enough said OK.
inspiring and insightful.......2007-05-06
amazing book. whether you're interested in ninjas, spiritual awakening, meditation, or martial arts.. this book has it all. its extremely well written with much useful advice spreadout. i personally enjoyed his experiences with kundalini awakening.
What a Scroll.......2007-03-09
Let me start by saying that I have a near-photographic memory of anything I read. Having said that, I have read this book 5 times and learned new things each time. That is the true mark of a "scroll" type of document in the martial arts. You can keep coming back to it, and depending on where you are in your path, you will learn new things. As new questions arise, so do new answers. As a primer on ninjutsu, this book gives some great anecdotes about training with Hatsumi-Soke in the fairly early days for us westerners.
As a student of Budo-Taijutsu and member of the IBDA I first aproached this book for more info on our grandmaster. After reading it in two days I walked away and thought "wow, what neat stories." As my path developed I found that it answered many of my questions and still does. Buy it, read, repeat.
This book is not about a Ninja Master.......2007-02-26
Glenn Morris' book is way out there. This is not a book about a "Ninja Master" but a hobbyist (his words) of Ninpo. If you are into kundalini, asteral planes and learning how to see peoples' auras (which he taught several people to do in 10 minutes) by this book. If you want to learn about Ninpo, read books written by the current Soke, Masaaki Hatsumi or if you can find them, books by Shoto Tanemura.
1 book for your "stranded on a desert island" list.......2006-10-13
I am sorry to report that Glenn Morris, Soke, transitioned into the Void on the 1st of April 2006. It is so like Soke to leave us fools behind wondering "Is this a joke or what?!?" This book, Glenn Soke's first on Martial Arts is one of the five or so I would take to a desert island with me for the rest of my life.
But I must warn you, strange things happen around this book, as they did around Glenn. Path Notes found me one day in early April 95 in NYC as I was browsing the small English language section of a large Japanese bookstore while waiting for a friend. It tumbled off an overhead shelf and hit me on the head. I try to be on the lookout for messages from the Universe and I must tell you, rarely are they quite so obvious---of course I bought the book! At around 9pm that night after all the day's Art of Dying Conference functions were over, I collapsed into bed thinking to myself, "I'm too tired to read, and I have to get up early, but let me read just one page..." at 3:45am, book in one hand and holding my eyelids open with the other, I finished it to the great relief of my roommate who had been frequently awakened by my uncontrollable guffawing! (It's a wonder she let me live!)
Rarely have I been so overjoyed by a book! As soon as I got home from the conference, I wrote my first letter to any author. Soke called me upon receiving my fawning praise and we became instant friends. He was already my Teacher from the first moment the book hit my head!
A word to the women-folk, this book is dripping with testosterone. Not the obnoxious "Me Tarzan, you Jane!" kind, but rather the irrepressible "Hold my beer, watch THIS!" kind, and the empowering "Come on in, the water's fine" kind moderated by a bit of "Do try this at home, but be prepared to duck!"
Now here's the real warning and heed this carefully: This book, delightfully humorous, entertaining, slightly unbelievable and deeply insightful as it is, is really a Grimoire... a map and a testimony to the far reaches of human spiritual potentiality, but in reasonably accessible modern English. Therefore it's dangerous if you do not pay attention and allow for the possibility that it might be recounting a Truth. And Soke is no longer with us here in the Relative Universe to fix it--to fix YOU--if you screw up, so do pay attention if you try anything at home.
All that said, this book is for anyone who has the slightest interest in martial arts, meditation, Japanese culture both modern and ancient, kundalini, body work, transpersonal psychology, Jungian archetypes, mythology both Western and Eastern, alternative medicine especially those arts involving Qi (Chi/Ki) or anything remotely connected to any of those subjects. By the way, the annotated bibliography alone is worth the price of the book if you have any interest in the aforementioned subjects. I also recommend all of Soke's books, but Path Notes is by far the best in my personal opinion. I am so grateful that Glenn left this behind when he left our dimension for what surely must be some incredible ongoing adventures. I miss him now and always.
Book Description
World War II spawned some of the most famous-and infamous-fighting organizations the world has ever known. None was more feared by its battlefield foes or more hated by political enemies of the National Socialist regime than the Waffen-SS. Six decades after the last Waffen-SS unit capitulated or was annihilated, the facts about many aspects of this organization are still shrouded in legend and half-truth. Loathed by many as a criminal organization, yet also respected for the esprit, resolve, and valor of its component units and individuals, the Waffen-SS was unarguably a highly-complex, multi-faceted phenomenon, unique among the military organizations of the world.
Marc Rikmenspoel has crafted the ultimate reference for those trying to understand the intensely controversial and complicated nature of the Waffen-SS. A comprehensive overview that will be useful to historians, buffs, wargamers, and re-enactors alike, no matter what your predisposition to the Waffen-SS, you will learn a great deal from this book. The book includes a concise history of every one of the major fighting formations of the Waffen-SS (those designated as "divisions").
Sections include:
-Formations
Structure of Divisions
Germans in the Waffen-SS
Germanics in the Waffen-SS
Non-Germans and Non-Germanics in the Waffen-SS
Leading Personalities
Weapons
Misconceptions and Controversies
Weapons Tables
Supported by 82 photos and extensive, 20-page annotated bibliography.
Customer Reviews:
Interesting and informative - but contains far less than the enthusiastic reviews suggest.......2006-11-24
Marc Rikmenspoel has done an admirable job collating a wealth of information about the Waffen-SS in this volume. Labelling this book an encyclopedia is a bit of a misnomer though as it is far from comprehensive. This book is divided into four major sections (eight chapters). In the first two chapters, MR describes the formations and the organization of the Waffen-SS from the highest levels (SS Panzer Armies) down to batallion sized units and smaller. A brief history of the each of the SS divisions is given along with the names of commanding officers. Virtually all of this information can easily be found elsewhere (like Wikipedia). This is certainly not the `home run' as another reviewer put it. The second section contains detailed descriptions of the diverse national members of the Waffen-SS. This section is divided into two chapters, Germanics and non-Germanics, and is the real meat of this book in my opinion. The Waffen-SS was truly a diverse army and took in men from a wide range of backgrounds and nationalities. The third section contains short biographical sketches of thirteen famous (or infamous, such as Oskar Dirlewanger) members/officers of the Waffen-SS. The final section contains a brief (15 page) discussion of the weapons of the Waffen-SS and a final chapter that is essentially an apologetic for Waffen-SS war crimes.
Overall, this work is more for popular consumption (or the type of thing that a cadet who is enamored with the image of the victories of the Waffen-SS may be interested in reading), and I suspect that any serious student of WWII will find this book to be little more than a light snack. Despite some of the claims of the other reviewers, this is certainly not a scholarly work, and it is not the kind of work that one will return to again and again for information. This is definitely not an encyclopedia, in spite of the title, there are way too many holes. There are several things that I really disliked about this book. There is no discussion about any of the actual battles, nor is there anything said about the relationship between the Waffen-SS and the higher levels of the SS and/or the political leadership of Germany. I found the final section about the apology for SS war crimes to be particularly egregious, especially for a book that claims to be an encyclopedia. In particular, I think the author does make some good points here, but completely avoids (throughout the entire text really) ALL the complex issues related to the SS's (not just the Waffen-SS) role in implementing Nazi racial policy. A BALANCED view would present both the admirable qualities of the soldiers of the Waffen-SS as well as their crimes. This work is certainly not balanced, and is a virtual hagiography of the exploits and men of the Waffen-SS. This last section makes it clear that MR is trying to ameliorate the image of the Waffen-SS while avoiding uncomfortable truths. There are many positives to this book though. It is well written with a deft prose that is direct and easy to read. As described above, MR does a fine job describing the diverse ethnic/national makeup of the Waffen-SS. There are two additional aspects about this book that make it worth a look. First, at less than 14 dollars (as of 24NOV06) this price is easy on the wallet. Second, the book contains an annotated bibiliography that points the interested reader to other references.
Bottom line - a light snack for a serious student, but may still be a worthwhile addition to your collection (particularly given the price).
Waffen-SS Encyclopedia.......2006-11-06
Not expect from this book an "encyclopedia", is more an "aproximation" to the Waffen-SS world. If you don't look for a detail information it may help you to know units, history, and the flow and ebbs of some personalities and units. A book for beguinners.
A solid resource.......2006-02-25
This book is excellent in breaking down the origin of the Waffen SS units and in providing information on important Waffen personnel. I especially liked how it avoided lumping all the units and all the individuals into a single group. It recognizes the differences between elite combat formations and thugs behind the lines who are commiting genocide. It also recognizes that individuals within a given unit differ in terms of fanaticism and indoctrination. It does not address general German (or European) antisemitism and its role, which is probably better tackled by holocaust books like the excellent Hitler's Willing Executioners. I would have preferred more battle history though. This book goes into extreme detail on the role of Germanics (non-Germans of German racial stock) in the SS, but there is relatively little detail on the key battles. All in all, I would say that this book and The Waffen SS at War are complementary. This book tells about the real people involved very well, but does a poor job with the battle history. Waffen SS at War tells the battle history but does a poor job making the people real, rather than simple demonic Nazi stereotypes.
An amazing reference for World War Two buffs!.......2005-11-11
Marc J. Rikmenspoel's book is one of the most detailed book's available on the Waffen-SS. It gives the background and summary of operations of all divisions, and has outstanding diagrams that outline the structure of early war motorized infantry divisions, panzer divisions, panzer-grenadier divisions, mountain divisions, cavalry divisions, and grenadier (infantry) divisions. It describes both the German and non-German troops of the Waffen-SS, which believe it or not included volunteers from Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bosnia, Bulgaria, Belorussia, Czechia, Estonia, France, Georgia, Hungary, India, Ireland (recruited from the IRA), Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, North Caucasus, Poland, Romania, Russia, Slovakia, Spain, Turkey, and Ukraine!
This book has a great section on the famous figures of the Waffen-SS and how they influenced it throughout the war. It has a brief section on the Waffen-SS weapons (with helpful photos) that serves as a good introduction to the subject. And finally, perhaps the best part of the book is the "Myths about the Waffen-SS" at the end. This answers questions about common myths about the Waffen-SS, such as whether or not they really possessed superior weaponry to the army. Also, there's a very informative appendix which gives details on the weapons of the Waffen-SS, and the bibliography serves as a great starting point for looking for more information on the Waffen-SS. Perhaps the best thing about this book is that it's written in an easy-to-understand format, making it the perfect book for both experts and beginners. This book is highly recommended to all World War Two buffs.
Great Research Book........2005-06-16
Ok, this is the last review until I finish a few more books.....anyone got any titles, LOL
OK, I found this book really well done and to the point. I would say it is more along the research type of book, as it is NOT a memoir or not really a story.
The chapters cover everything I would want to know about the SS. SS units, weapons used, Bio's on major characters (brief but with good information, and a good read). How the SS DIV were broken down and of course where the Divisions fought, and how they ended the war. One of the chapters covers all the countries that supplied volunteers to the German elite units and has a break down of wounded/killed and what happened to the soldiers at wars end. This is a really good read in my mind.
Most of the photos have not been seen by me. I found myself going back to this book to re-read certain chapters to help explain other books. I know I will be using this book to compliment later books.
Highly recommended as a research book.

'Elite' status is determined by performance, not just assigned status alone........2007-08-07
From paratroops and commandos to rangers, this A-Z reference to elite forces of the second world war is a top pick for any serious military collection looking beyond the general overview of troops and battles. The best units from all the major combatant countries are included from both European and Pacific theatres of war in a survey arranged by nation and covering troops and squadrons on all sides. 'Elite' status is determined by performance, not just assigned status alone.

An amazing reference for World War Two buffs!.......2004-12-04
Book Description
Did you ever
dream of talking to a mermaid?
Can you imagine
facing off with a bully who
barely reaches your knees?
What would you do
with a box of golden coins?
Have you ever
said thank you to...a button?
And how would you respond if you met a magic genie who asked you for a handout instead of granting you a wish?
Free to Be...You and Me creator Marlo Thomas has once again produced a joyful volume for children and the grown-ups in their lives. Reaching into the heads and hearts of our most acclaimed writers, artists, and performers, Thanks & Giving celebrates the best things in life -- family, friendship, giving, thankfulness, and love (and just for fun, a few of their opposites -- stinginess, bullying, ingratitude, and the occasional urge to stamp your feet and throw a fit).
From Tiger Woods and Maurice Sendak to Hilary Duff and Newbery Medalist Kate DiCamillo, this colorful collection of stories, poems, and songs will take readers on a lighthearted and thoughtful (but never overserious) adventure. Whether you're gazing at the brilliant child's-eye paintings of illustrator Eric Carle, or laughing out loud at the off-the-wall humor of Mel Brooks, you'll enjoy every step of the magical journey that the creators of Thanks & Giving have planned for you:
Delight in Jon Scieszka and Lane Smith's fractured fable starring a mouse, a bird, and a sausage who learn all about sharing -- the hard way.
Hold on tight as Rosie Perez recounts the tale of a little girl confronted with a heart-stopping decision.
Rock along with Kevin and Michael Bacon's funky valentine to sibling rivalry and brotherly love.
And laugh with Ray Romano as he reveals how his life was changed by a giant burrito.
Designed for both cover-to-cover reading and selective excerpting (when you can't refuse that last impassioned call for "One more story!" just before lights-out), this sparkling anthology also includes marvelous contributions from Avi, Shel Silverstein, Tom Chapin, Arthur creator Marc Brown, Matt Groening, Deepak Chopra, Donald Trump, Frankie Muniz, Walter Dean Myers, Paul Newman, Sumner Redstone, Jerry Pinkney, Whoopi Goldberg, Sonia Manzano, the Sesame Street Muppets, Julianne Moore, Ed Koren, Wendy Wasserstein, and Paul O. Zelinsky.

Thanks & Giving: All Year Long.......2007-03-10
Do you want to help a good cause? Then buy this book. It is not for us adults, but sometimes we could use some enlightning from childrens literature.
BUYER BEWARE: VERY MISLEADING PACKAGING OF BOOK AND CD.......2005-12-26
I am extremely disappointed with this purchase (and I just made three of them.) Last year I bought the book and the companion CD separately, so when I saw this special edition and price with the book and CD combined, I was delighted because I could afford to give both as Christmas gifts for three separate families. Boy was I embarassed yesterday when they opened up the book and tucked in the back was the "CD" with only 3 songs on it (as opposed to the nearly 20 the original has). I reread the description of this edition on Amazon's website this morning and I don't see it mentioned anywhere that the CD was so incomplete. It implies its the same CD as the companion CD. Charity or no charity, this should have been clearly explained in Amazon's description. If that was the case, I would have bought my family members ONLY the companion CD, which we've enjoyed much more than the book (which is pretty uneven, as previous reviewers have noted.) BUYER BEWARE!
Odd but well intended.......2005-11-07
This collection of stories, reminiscences, poems, songs, from famous authors and show-biz folks hangs on a thin thread of "thankfulness" to unify its contents. Sometimes, it's just not quite enough. Good stories by JonScieszka, Whoopi Goldberg, Tiger Woods, Kate DeCamillo (Winn Dixie), and cute songs (CD is good too) redeem the weaker entries. This will be heavily promoted because its royalties go to St. Jude's Hospital and media campaign starts right after football on T-Day. It would make a nice present for your child's dentist or doctor for the waiting room--all the stories are short and sweet.
This book is a joy for all ages!.......2004-12-30
I loved THANKS & GIVING: ALL YEAR LONG, edited by Marlo Thomas and Christopher Cerf . . . and you will too, particularly if you have a young child or grandchild who never tires of a bedtime
story.
Yet that said, I should add that this book is also a joy for adults--if for just the magnificent illustrations from a variety of artists . . . the range of contributors is likewise impressive:
from Shel Silverstein to Donald Trump and including Deepak Chopra, Paul Newman, and Whoopi Goldberg among others.
You can read THANKS & GIVING straight through or do as I did; i.e., skip around . . . I guarantee that it will put a smile on your face, as well as anybody else you might choose to share it with--and I do encourage you to share it for maximum enjoyment.
There were several memorable passages; among them:
(from "Aunt Delia's Holiday Manners Quiz by Delia Ephron) It's time to go home. What's the best way to show everyone how much you love them?
Give them each a big hug and a kiss and thank Aunt Delia for the delicious dinner. Say, "Some Thanksgiving. The only thing I liked was the white meat turkey." Say, "So long, Aunt Delia, Uncle Jerry, Grandma, Grandpa, Matt, Michelle, and Baldie. See you at Christmas. Bring big presents."
(from "Thank you, Mrs. Abruzzi" by Ray Romano) When I was a kid, my father told me over and over again how important it was for me to get a good education. "Knowledge is power!" he would
bellow. Whenever we talked about school or college, he'd scream it:
"Knowledge is power!"
Then he found out how much a college education costs. "On the other hand," he decided, "what you don't know won't hurt you!"
(from "Presents I Have Known" by Frankie Muniz) STUPIDEST PRESENT I EVER GOT: One birthday all I wanted was a red wagon, just like any other three-year-old. Only problem:
I was fourteen at the time. I thought it would be cool to put stuff in it and pull it around behind my bike. Wrong. You shoulda heard by friends. "Yo, dude, what's up with the red wagon?" Talk
about embarrassing.
Marlo Thomas and Friends--her contributors--have contributed all royalties from the book to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, founded by her father, Danny Thomas, in 1962.
A nice collections of bedtime storries.......2004-12-17
"Thanks and Giving" contains a nice collection of stories, poems, and songs. The songs all need a piano, so we've not tried them. The stories & poems range from 1 to 3 pages and appropriate for a 2nd grade reading level or above. Some of the stories are nice, some are funny, some hit you over the head with the authors message, some are re-writes of very old stories that may or may not appeal, and "Teeny Meany" makes the villian sound too appealing. Overall, this is a nice bed-time book for children old enough to look at one picture for a few minutes while Mom (or child) reads 200 to 400 words. Most stories have a message that can be discussed. Unfortunately, the title & cover do not appeal to children. In my opinion, this book is "Good" quality but not "Excellent".
