The second edition needs some work........2007-07-09

I have had other texts that did a great job at highlighting the key concepts, perhaps creating a sidebar to point out definitions and concepts as they occur in the text. This book assumes that your highlighter will find these nuggets by itself. Also, the chapter summaries were pretty skimpy, and I did not find them to be a valuable study resource.

However, the end-of-chapter questions and problems were fantastic resources to expand my learning and discover weaknesses. I was also impressed by the choice of case studies. These real-world examples contributed to a deeper understanding, and provided a starting point for research.

The range of topics included:
-The International Monetary System.
-Balance of Payments.
-Foreign exchange markets and rates.
-Management of risk due to foreign exchange exposure.
-Sources of global equity and debt.
-International Portfolio Diversification Theory.
-International Tax Management Strategies.

I did learn alot about Multinational Finance from this book, but I think my learning would have been enhanced if the book were developed further.

I've been working in Opertions for over 10 years, I found this book to be an easy read with an excellent basic knowledge of the industry. The added bonus was the chapter on Operational Risk, no one ever takes the time to explain what could happen when things go wrong and the importance of a sound operations team.

Imagining Difference is an ethnography about historical and contemporary ideas of human difference expressed by residents of Fernie, BC -- a coal-mining town transforming into an international ski resort. Focusing on diverse experiences of people from the European diaspora, Robertson analyzes expressions of difference from the multiple locations of age, ethnicity, gender, class, and religion.

Her starting point is a popular local legend about an indigenous curse cast on the valley and its residents in the nineteenth century. Successive interpretations of the story reveal a complicated landscape of memory and silence, mapping out official and contested histories, social and scientific theories as well as the edicts of political discourse. Cursing becomes a metaphor for discursive power resonating in political, popular, and cultural contexts, transmitting ideas of difference across generations and geographies.

Stories are powerful imaginative resources in the contexts of colonialism, war, immigration, labour strife, natural disaster, treaty-making, and globalization.This study suggests that while criteria may shift, ideas of "race" and "foreignness," expressions of regionalism, and class and religious identity remain fixed in the social imagination.

This book can please every scuba diver interested on the Florida Keys. Great layout; nice, glossy paper; loads of inspiring pictures; super cool maps of EACH dive site; expert advice from knowledgeable writers who clearly love the Keys.
For such a beautiful book - though not hard-cased, it can fare well on a diver's coffee-table - this guide is a GREAT value for the money. This book provides substantial help in preparing for your first trips to the only living reef in the continental USA. It can also inspire the seasoned Florida diver to remember the good times underwater and how precious the Keys are.
A fitting tribute to a nature wonder... a most useful guide for a diving vacation... Highly recommended!

An excellent review of Florida Keys diving.......2000-01-22

I found this book to be an excellent review of diving sites in the Fla. Keys. Not only did it describe sites but the drawings describing dives from boats was excellent! I cannot say enough about how well this book is presented and it should be an invaluable resource for all of us who dive in the Keys

This is the best diving book about the Florida Keys........1999-07-24

This is the best diving book about the Keys in this website. It is a fascinating look at many of the bigger reefs in the Keys. We used this book as a reference source for creating our website. It is filled with beautiful photos, all taken on the reefs described therein. It has diveplan maps to follow, history, fish descriptions, and many other helpful facts relevant to divers.

Excellent Dive Book!.......1998-11-02

As a beginning diver, I found this book to be very informative. It lists practically every reef in the Florida Keys. I especially like the reef maps which show what there is to see at what depth. Then after each reef map, there are photos of what there is to see at that site. It is a paperback, but it has glossy pages and great photos. I thought it was an excellent book - at a value price!

Better than using the online version.......2007-04-15

In my opinion blacks online (through west) is too cumbersome to use. too many redirects and long paragraphs. But this book is not essential either. You'll know the phrases you need after your first month or so, and all the legal libraries have a bunch of these all over the place. Bringing it to class is almost impossible because it's so big. But it is nice to have also. I would recommend this over the 8th edition because it's so much cheaper. I don't see much difference between the two. This will sit in my office throughout my career. However it's use will continue to be limited more and more.

Black's Law Dictionary is worth it's weight in gold. I used it in my research in learning about investment opportunities and basic common law terms. It is very easy to used and the price is right. I am glad that it is part of my personal library.I purchased this book in 2005 and I have been very pleased with it.

This dictionary will be well worn! It is indespensible and sits at my desk. Clear, concise easy reading print. It is one that you can't do without. With a tremendous amount of reading to be done as a student, this dictionary was printed with that in mind making a lot less a chore to use.

I bought this book for a class I took while I was an undergrad, and I used this book almost as much as I used the text for the class. I was able to find almost everything I needed, and in the end, it was worth having. I would recommend this for anyone taking law classes, however, I would buy a used copy because new copies can be a little pricy.

Hakeem was a good boy till High School. Overnight he abandons the values he been taught for the irresistible street life. He hooks up with four friends and is having a party every school day. Cutting class, smoking ganga, and thugging out. Getting the attention of girls. Kids across the street in the Ivy League school start getting robbed. Hakeem is arrested. His boys, streetwise and slick, dodge the law. He alone takes the fall.

In juvenile detention he comes upon the real criminals. It's him against them. Does he have the guts to be a real criminal? In here he's going to be tried by the big dogs. The gang members. Some are here for vicious crimes like attempted murder. He has to face beatings right under the PO's nose.

He's been taught values though he was born and raised in the hood. He has this revelation while in there. But values are useless against hardheaded violent thugs, who would do anything to add to their gangster image. Some of them diagnosed with all kinds of psychological problems, which he soon finds out when he tries to reason with one.

So what does he do now. Fight back so he wouldn't become the punching bag for the whole detention center, or take the beatings and earn a good name in the PO's book to win his freedom in the courts?

He has to make a choice.

A must read for every parent and child in America!.......2001-10-18

This is a true story about meeting and overcoming challenges. The story of an inner city young boy that seemed so bleak until he suddenly wakes up one day to his condition, as if by a miracle. Only it wasn't. It was through the dilligent, supportive and unrelenting passion of a parent, his mother, that all became possible. And this is the essence of the story. It may not be your neighbourhood, your life, but the human spirit transcends all differences and brings us to one common ground: The relationship between parent and child. The relationship we all strive for with our children, the place we want them to be. It is a must read.
