Bob Woodward called his biography of Federal Reserve chairman Alan Greenspan Maestro for two reasons. First, Greenspan is a musician. He started out as a Julliard-trained jazz sax man. "He wasn't a good improviser," Woodward reports. And while the other guys got stoned all night, Greenspan "read economics and business books and eventually became the band's bookkeeper." He also cultivated powerful pals, like Ayn Rand, whose coterie dubbed the dour young man "The Undertaker."
More profoundly, Greenspan is a maestro, a conductor, exquisitely attuned to every instrument in the political and economic orchestra. He rules by consensus, but with a firm hand and notoriously inscrutable words. Marvelously, Woodward relates that Greenspan had to propose twice to his wife, the violinist-turned-TV news star Andrea Mitchell, before she understood: "His verbal obscurity and caution were so ingrained that Mitchell didn't even know that he had asked her to marry him." Woodward gives us the inside story of what Greenspan really thinks and how he outmaneuvered the most ruthless politicians on earth in some of the hairiest times imaginable, from the 1987 stock market crash to the 1994-95 Mexican crisis to the stomach-churning turn of the century. It turns out that for all his awesome knowledge of monetary minutiae, the Fed chief literally relies on "a pain in the pit of my stomach" to make decisions. "At times, he found his body sensed danger before his head," writes Woodward. The Fed chief also adapts Einstein's technique to economics, hunting for discrepancies as keys to deeper theories. Einstein made breakthroughs out of bent light; Greenspan deduced productivity gains that government statisticians had overlooked for years. (The gains appeared when Greenspan made the statisticians calculate productivity by business sector, the way it's done in the real world.)
Woodward's prose is cool and rational, not exuberant. But if you're into economics and politics, you'll find a rich gossip trove here. Who knew Reagan had a draft of a presidential order to shut down Wall Street trading at hand in 1987? Scary! Reading Maestro is better than sitting with Greenspan in his famous tub as he charts your future--it's like being right there inside his head. --Tim Appelo
Book Description
Perhaps the last Washington secret is how the Federal Reserve and its enigmatic chairman, Alan Greenspan, operate. In Maestro, Bob Woodward uses his proven interviewing and research techniques to take you inside the Fed and Greenspan's thinking. Woodward presents the Greenspan years as a gripping narrative, a remarkable portrait of a man who has become the symbol of American economic preeminence.
Download Description
Woodward's bestselling "The Agenda" presented a thrilling, intimate portrait of the making of economic policy during President Clinton's first year in office. The author now returns to the economic arena to examine why and how the present boom came to be.

"The nurturing of capital and property ownership.".......2007-09-10
While there are some interesting tidbits throughout, ie Alan Greenspans association with Ayn Rand, the familiar names of the politically entrenched and the precarious state our nations economic machinations, this book was a bit boring. What I did find fascinating was the level of Ivy League ambition in our nations capital and Greenspans savvy manuevering therein.
Maestro Review .......2007-08-19
Among collegiate literature which I have been exposed to, I have found Bob Woodward's Maestro to be one of the most informative and educational. With this simple and easy to understand narrative, I have been taken inside the doors of the Federal Reserve, and have been given a picture of how the FOMC truly operates. I feel more equipped to discuss and express opinion towards the operations of the Fed. Upon the completion of this book, I sat back with a sense of gratification, in my newly acquired, practical understanding of the U.S. economy. Woodward was able to portray Monetary Policy in a sense that really applied to my level of thinking.
With an inside look at the decisions of Alan Greenspan and his role as chairman of the Federal Reserve, I was stuck with a sense of amazement watching this man operate mathematically and politically, still maintaining a sense of pure awareness and concern for the long-term affects of his resolutions. I would definitely recommend this book to any reader in search of a practical and realistic understanding of the economic engine which drives the U.S.
I Can't Believe I LOVED a Book on Greenspan!.......2007-04-10
I read this book wanting to be better informed about how The Fed and Greenspan operate, and wound up being nicely informed and entertained. Understanding how banks, the White House and political appointments co-exist in the field of economics, I never thought I would ever use the phrase "hard-to-put-down" in connection with an economics/banking book but this one really did it for me. It is a genuine page turner and definitely Woodward's most underrated and under-discussed books. (No caller mentioned this work during his 3-hour C-Span interview a few months back.) Get your hands on a copy of this book and prepare for an interesting and enjoyable ride. My one complaint: I wish it were longer. Although this book answered all my "Fed" questions, I wished its time track would continue to the present, or perhaps delve a little deeper into the past. But this minor complaint notwithstanding, the book was an excellent and engaging read.
Maestro.......2006-12-02
First, a brief note about what others have stated about the author and his relationship with the "establishment." Bob Woodward has always gotten close to the sources and heart of the story. It seems Woodward is inside and part of the system much moreso than than simply observing and reporting about it from the outside. In "Maestro," perhaps such conjecture is irrelevant. (Some biographers are more sympathetic to the subject.) If one is on the inside he/she has greater access to corroborated information and gets to know what's really going on behind the scenes.
The downside is that a person can also develop relationships with the people they write about (e.g. become friends, or admiring acquaintances). Insider or not, Woodward is and has been....a part of the establishment. But this isn't necessarily a reason to take anything away from him in this book. Woodward provides lots of details into Greenspan, the FOMC, and daily working of the Fed, as well as the politics and motivations behind individual and institutional actions.
This bio starts with brief glimpses into Greenspan's parents, his upbringing, and school days. It then moves to his young adulthood and formative years. The young Greenspan was 26 when he met philosopher and novelist Ayn Rand. He held many discussions with her and became a part of her inner circle. Then, as now, Greenspan believes in the philosophy of "Logical Positivism," which asserts that "nothing could be known rationally with total certainty."
"Maestro" spends a lot of time on the workings, structure, and politics of the Fed. As for the structure of the Federal Reserve Board, the President appoints board members to the Fed and the Senate confirms them, to a term of 14 years. These lengthy terms are designed to position the board members above politics. The appointments however, are influential and political. The Secretary of Treasury traditionally acts as a liaison between the administration and board members.
The FOMC is the Federal Open Market Committee, (then) chaired by By Greenspan. The FOMC has 12 voting members, seven of which which, are Fed Governors. 5 of are presidents (out of a total of twelve) of the Federal Reserve district banks in the U.S. The FOMC meets every six weeks to discuss and set the the short-term funds rate.
This book also notes how Greenspan's statements are interpreted by the media and the markets that react to them.
Greenspan's famous and carefully crafted ambiguous statements are misinterpreted, oversimplified, and over-reacted to constantly by the 'talking heads' and knee-jerk profit takers and short-termers.
It's become so common in recent years to listen to talking heads Analyze phrases, words, and sentences given by Greenspan (and now Bernanke) when they present reports and testimony. Below is one example of what commonly happens after the Fed Chairman utters his alphabet soup of ambiguity, as in this 1995 comment from Allen Greenspan:
"I don't see any problem that really disturb me" followed by, "As a consequence of the sluggish economic outlook, the probabilities, as some of my colleagues have indicated, of a recession have edged up, as indeed one would expect." This statement was made in 1995 at an international banking conference in Seattle .
Here are two major headlines responses to this statement:
"Greenspan Sees Chance of Recession" --The New York Times.
"Recession Is Unlikely, Greenspan Concludes" --The Washington Post.
Greenspan refers to these responses by the media and talking heads as "Constructive Ambiguity" (p. 147).
The Chairman of the Federal Reserve and board is considered to be the most important position in the governance and overseeing of the U.S. economy. This book makes a mundane topic and institution interesting.
One thing I liked about Greenspan. He believed in an "institutional rule of survival" in Washington: bring the bad news yourself. Look people in the eye, lay out the facts, and be direct (p. 53).
Some people think there is an element of fawning in this biography. Sometimes there seems to be some subtle praise. Aside from this, the media's categorization of Greenspan as a 'rock star' is oversimplified. It seems Woodward liked Greenspan's tenure. A lot of people did.
How to feel your way to the correct interest rate.......2006-05-03
Woodward will give you a feel for how Greenspan feels (this feeling is developed from massive amounts of economic dated and dicussions with other experts) his way along to a decision on interest rates. There is no clear-cut method for getting the interest rates to just the right level. Now that Greenspan is gone and left us with a boom, we have to be concerned that Ben Bernanke will also develop just the right feel. And probably more importantly--may he be just as lucky as Alan Greenspan.

Book Description
Advances in Group Processes publishes theoretical, review, and empirically-based papers on group phenomena. The series adopts a broad conception of 'group processes' consistent with prevailing ones in the social psychological literature. In addition to topics such as status processes, group structure, and decision making, the series considers work on interpersonal behavior in dyads (i.e. the smallest group). Contributors to the series include not only sociologists but also scholars from other disciplines, such as psychology and organizational behavior.

Book Description
With the increased interest in and demands for compost from commercial horticultural industries, composting is on the verge of becoming an economically feasible option for waste management. While horticultural producers can create some of the compost to meet their own needs, demand has grown beyond what they can supply for themselves and others. Compost Utilization in Horticultural Cropping Systems gives you the tools to meet the needs of this growing industry. Consider these statistics: o Americans generate about 200 million megagrams of municipal solid waste per year o The agricultural market for compost could reach over 680 million m3 per year o Two horticultural areas together account for over 50% of compost use: landscaping (31%) and food crop production (25%) Now consider this: o Proven benefits of compost use, including plant disease suppression, better moisture retention, supplying plant nutrients, and building soil organic matter o Increased pressure on peat supplies and wider availability of compost products o Creation of composting enterprises by the horticultural industry in response to its own needs, rising disposal fees for organic waste, and consumer demand for compost at retail centers The first book to establish a composite of the existing scientific knowledge on the use of compost in commercial horticultural enterprises, Compost Utilization in Horticultural Cropping Systems gives you a comprehensive review of the production, use, and economics of compost. It covers production methods, compost quality and the parameters associated with its measurement, and the biological, chemical, and physical processes that occur during composting. Rather than searching for information in various places, now you can find all the information you need in one convenient source.
Customer Reviews:
A MUST HAVE GUIDANCE DOCUMENT.......2002-01-26
This book covers all the basics of composting and how to use it properly. It is well researched with "gobs" of very useful references. I highly recommend it as a foundation for real guidance on how to produce, handle and use compost.
Composting Comes Down to Earth.......2001-03-16
Pete Stoeffella in his down-to-earth matter-of-fact manner has collected some of the best information available for the grower. Indeed it is the best composting information available today. Without good compost returned to the soil growers will find an inabilably to sustain good yields. This books shows growers how a good compost is made and how it is best used while bringing to light many of compost's best qualities such as water retention as well as good drainage, nutrient retention, nutrient availability, and suppression of many diseases. This book is a resourse and reference book for any organic gardener and is sure to become an integral part of "closing the loop" on a resource previously considered disposable waste.

Book Description
Part memoir, part travelogue, and part reflection on the deep truths of fly fishing, this original and free-wheeling book brings a philosopherÂ's (actually a philosophy professorÂ's) mind to bear on an avocation that turns ordinary men into philosophers. As he relates the progress of his yearly fishing trip to British Columbia with his father and brothers, Mark Kingwell considers everything from work, procrastination, and the way of manhood to the wet vs. dry fly debate and the best ways of fooling a fish. Sly in its humor, unassuming in its erudition, Catch and Release is a perfect book for anyone who loves fishingÂor anyone whoÂ's perplexed by it.
Customer Reviews:
This book isn't about fishing.......2007-02-24
You don't have to read very far before Kingwell tells you his book isn't about fishing. In fact, it's as much about fishing as Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance is about motorcycle maintenance. It's more about what Kingwell takes to the water, other than gear, when he goes fishing. A large part of what he takes is family. Maybe if he were a more serious fisherman, his mind wouldn't wander as much. But he isn't, and he doesn't pretend to be. In any case, the wandering offers a lot of fun.
Unfulfilled Title and Story.......2005-05-29
This entry in the new genre of "fly fishing and the meaning of life" breaks no new ground; not interested in sibling rivalry and the author's fascination with drinking. In fact, it sheds no light on fishing nor on being a man in the 21st century.
Excellent.......2004-09-12
This charmingly perceptive and well-written book is a joy to read. Makes me wonder what Kingwell could have done had he been an ardent fly fisherman with years of experience. The beauty of Kingwell's language is what sets this book apart, a rare treat, indeed, especially in a genre often marred by sentimentality and journalistic prose. Very well done.
The road to boredom.......2004-09-03
A question mark hovers over the autobiography written before, say, the age of forty. Maybe the same short of suspicion should exist when someone writes, dewily, about fly fishing before the ink is dry on the receipt from their first rod and reel. But then again, what if it was a really good book? We will have to wait to test that out - this is an awful book.
What's it about? Fishing, life, philosophy? Who cares, my brain hurts hearing his Philosophy 101 approach molded to a new subject. That's Kingwell's gift, he's the talking head they call, in Canada, when a news subject requires some tedious philosophical pandering. Yes, you will find this all immensely edifying - if this is the first book you have ever picked up.
Wait till life calls from outer space, or a new cultural angst comes up, and you can get it all for free on the CBC (PBS like radio).
In general I'm against the kind of book that tries to find greater significance in golf or fishing, say, than in philosophy or religious writing of long standing "merit". Still, for anyone interested I recommend Fishing and Thinking by A.A. Luce. Sadly, Professor Luce was beaten to death by street punks in Dublin during his 80's. A little old fashioned, Fishing and Thinking is nonetheless worth the time.
The New Male Status Symbol.......2004-07-16
"Catch and Release" is supposedly a book about trout fishing. That it is; however, much more is contained in this book by Mark Kingwell. I bought the book for a friend, thinking he would like all the fishing information. But as I leafed through the book, I found much more information on various subjects....cooking osso bucco, the measure of a martini glass, golf, writing and wrtier's block, philosophy, and Canadian masculinity. Canadian masculinity by the way, seems to be a cut above that of the US fisherman. It was rather neatly summarized with Kingwell's comment re: Cary Grant."If Cary Grant isn't man enough for you, there's something wrong with your picture of manhood." This was in reply to some men or women who think of Grant as effeminate. And as did also the previous reviewer think of Kingwell. So the Canadian fisherman is more like Cary Grant than Ernest Hemingway.....and I'll drink to that!!!

Riveting mystery.......2007-01-28
I am happy to say that I have found a mystery author that is as good as or better than MHC earlier novels. She Loves Me Not was a riveting read and the ending surprised me. I suspected many different people of being the Secret Admirer but I was wrong. Though I do enjoy putting the pieces together to figure out who-dun-it, I still appreciated the surprise. I have read a couple of Ms. Staub's other mysteries and have found them all to be hard to put down reading. They keep you up late at night trying to finish and prove your theory right (or wrong). Overall a great find!
WOW....Just WOW.......2006-04-12
This review is for all of Wendy Corsi Staub's books. The first book I read by this author was Lullaby and Goodnight, which was maybe a year ago. I loved it so much that I went and bought all of her books and read them all in a month. I just finished her newest one "The Final Victim" and even though it is a long book (474 pages) once I was done with it I was left wanting more. I know she is working on her next novel, but I just wish that she would write faster:) Anyways go, buy and read any of her mystery (except Dearly Beloved). I guarantee you will fall in love with her style and you'll be left wanting more. Just for a reference, I like mystery books where cops and detectives are not involved a lot. My favorite authors are, of course, Wendy Corsi Staub; Mary Higgins Clark, Patricia MacDonald, Carlene Thomson and Sidney Sheldon. Good luck.
ok...........2006-02-20
The plot was good....very orginial. But the tense the story was written in was distracting. It was hard to feel drawn into the story. And the baby talk got very annoying....I figured out on the first page that her son was a small child - having to decipher baby talk through the whole book got old very quickly.
Hardly A Child's Game, Murder and Mayhem........2005-10-08
There was a children's game I remember seemed puzzling, pulling the pedals off a white daisy saying "He loves me, he loves me now." If the pedals are uneven, you have a happy feeling of being loved. If they are even, you feel let down because "he loves me not." No matter how many daises you demean, the result is not always the same. What's puzzling about that quandry? Who is he?! A child is too young to feel romantic or sexual love. Wendy uses this little rhyme to make some sense out of the valentines Rose finds in her mailbox that year.
These are not bought cards, candy in heart-shaped boxes (though a stranger handed me one in Walgreen's one year, one in many he was buying for all the women in his life); the crudely-made "paper hearts with no verse or signature, were not the gift of a 'secret admirer.'" He was a stalker -- watching Rose at her 48 Shorewood Lane address. That Valentine's Day was snowy, and he left footprints outside her windows. I remember one February the snow weas so deep in middle Tennessee (close to Alabama), and the roads icy. It seemed to take forever to walk in a roundabout way in the middle of the pavement to mail Valentine cards to my sons. It took so long to ge to the post office and back home I ended up with a very bad cold. Rose's stalker is a twisted killer with Tourette Syndrome and used violence against the three young women like that monster assassin did to the young professional woman in the movie, 'Red Eye.'
Liza receoved a business proposition: "Dear Ms. Danning: As you may or may not be aware, I am the author of several best-selling spy novels over the past ten years. Since my editor retired last month, I have been searching for a new home for my novels. Would you be interested in meeting me to discuss this possibility? Enclosed is a round-trip train ticket to Westwood, Rhode Island, for the second week of February. You will stay at the Bramble Rose Inn. It is imperative that you keep this metting confidential. Sincerely, David Micahel Yates." Liza wondered, "How on earth did he decide on me of all people?" He is an eccentric recluse whose face is unknown as he will not allow his photo to be on his books. It is rumored that his face is deformed, shot up in Vietnam; or the fact that he may be a woman. She'd read in an article that he was about to depart for Europe to research his newest novel and was seeking a new publisher.
Jennie received a letter also: "Dear Ms. Towne: It is our pleasure to inform you that you have won the grand prize and hereby entitled to an all-expenses-paid weekend in February at the Bramble Rose Inn. Sincerely, Jasper Hammel, Innkeeper." She was to get rount-trip transportation on the Crosswinds Bay ferry. He lures the three women, Rose, Liza, Jennie (posing as Laura) to a magical weekend. This is the culmination of much planning, as he has been watching them for so long now. It is predicted to be a 'stormy' weekend in February.
Wendy Corsi Staub has also written ALL THE WAY HOME, FADE TO BLACK, and DEARLY BELOVED. This is a nice little thriller in the guise of a romance gone bad. Nothing and no one will ever be the same after this Valentine's Day.
You won't be able to put it down!.......2004-10-29
This was a great book. It's the first one I've read by this author, but it won't be the last. I picked it up on a whim because the cover copy made reference to Mary Higgins Clark. I enjoyed this book more than hers. I thought the present tense style would bother me, but it really didn't. I think it made it more suspenseful.

Book Description
Here is a new collection of Lesléa Newman's fiction at its finest. In A Stone's Throw, two butch buddies become more than buddies, though neither of them will admit it. In Mothers of Invention, one woman in a relationship wants a child, but her partner won't learn the true meaning of compromise and commitment. And in Girls Will Be Boys, a straight woman-at least she thinks she's straight-discovers a shocking fact about her "boyfriend." Whether the stories are serious, as in Keeping a Breast when a woman discovers a lump in her breast while making love, or hilarious, as in Flights of Fancy when a femme surprises herself by being attracted to another femme, She Loves Me, She Loves Me Not showcases Newman's talent for portraying the lesbian community in all its glory with compassion, wit, and heart.

Customer Reviews:
wonderful book.......2007-05-18
I couldn't put the book down. The short stories are great. I hated when the book ended.
Exquisite.......2002-06-17
Extremely funny, witty, informed, and highly recommended.
Leslea Newman writes up a storm - not only is she a queen of wit and humour, but she has also given us a look at the some of the more serious issues facing lesbians in today's society.
Newman skilfully infuses each character with their own unique viewpoint in a variety of interesting situations that have the ability to make you laugh and cry, and also stop and think for a moment about what _you_ would do in similar circumstances.
From a chance and sultry liaison on a plane, to falling in love with a stone butch while learning the ropes; from dealing with one's androgynous self to dealing with the loss of a loved one; and from coping with a cancer scare, to coming to realise just how far a butch will go for true love - Newman lets her characters speak with both humour, intelligence, and also a refreshing frankness that both warms and informs one from the very outset.
I always enjoy reading Newman's books, but this time, I really do think she's outdone herself - these are definitely an exquisite collection of stories that you would certainly be very sorry to miss.
-Superb.
Love is alive.......2002-05-21
These short stories are about romance, love, and daily life in the lives of lesbians. From "Keeping a Breast" (about a breast cancer scare) to the gender-bending "Girls Will Be Boys", the stories keep the reader glued to the pages, laughing and crying and getting hot & bothered with the characters. Newman has a wonderful talent for creating masterful stories that warm the readers' hearts. This is a collection not to be missed.
Book Description
Damon's English teacher is so nice.
Really nice. And pretty too.
He'd better not say that to Jessica, though.
She'd accuse him of having a crush.
Like that'd happen.

Our Voices.......2005-05-11
Damon, has a crush on his teacher,Mrs.Searson. He joins up for SVJH Literary Magazine. One of the girls at the meeting said it sounds too snobby,so They picked Our Voices. Lacey has a crush on Richard Griggs, then she and Gel[her boyfriend have a fight and break up] One day,One of Damon's sisters,I think it was Kiai got hurt and fell off the swings, and had to get stiches at Fowler Memorial.
Love Is In the Air.......2005-02-06
Damon has been feeling alone lately. His mom has started dating again, and is really enjoying the company of a man named Ben. Because the two are so close, he is always over...replacing Damon. Most kids would whine about babysitting their two little sisters, but when Ben constantly offers to do things for the two girls, Damon can't help feeling defensive. It's like he's not needed anymore. Then Ms. Serson, Damon's teacher, starts becoming more noticable. She is young, pretty, a good listener, and is relying on Damon to help her with a literary magazine that she is starting. For once, Damon feels like he's needed. But now JESSICA is the one feeling not needed. Every day it seems like Damon is becoming more distant, and Jessica fears that he is getting ready to break up with her.
Meanwhile, Lacey is feeling bored. So Gel has a car, big whoop! There's nothing else interesting about him...but at least he's not Richard Griggs! Richard is a self-absorbed player who seems to be up in her face a lot lately...what a jerk! What a loser! What a...um...cute guy. What an idiot! What a dummy! What a...um...quick-witted...cute guy.
This is a good book! Not the best I've read from this series, but still good. I found Lacey's story especially interesting. I recommend this series to Babysitters' Club, Luna Bay, and Mary-Kate & Ashley book lovers.
Great book.......2004-03-05
Jessica and Damon run into trouble in their relationship when Jessica feels that Damon isnt talking to her about his feelings she hates that his keeping stuff from her and she can't figure out why he'd rather talk to his English Teacher instead of her.
Although Damon dosent want to burden Jessica with his problems coz he thinks that she will think his whigeing than dump him. Damon also gets jealous when Jessica is paired for a project with the most popular boy in school
Lacey breaks up with her highschool boyfriend Gel and she finds herself falling for Richard Griggs. Elizabeth can't figure out why she is jealous either. This was a great book but I think Damons a bit of a worry wart.

The book is such a light mass and easy to carry, also vivid picture on the cover of book adds to the reasons I favor it.
To be honest, at first, I thought the book is again a love story that we usually watch in the film or somewhere else. On the contrary I found it is quite different from other friction stories. The specialty is that the story likes dairy journal, which were written by the characters and in first person. The story sent me a positive impression. It is just the sorts of book I am looking for.
Francine Pascal's writes this book. It focuses on two couples: Domon, Jessica and Lacey, Richard. Let say about the first couple: they are attracted by each other and fall in love. However, Jessica did not felt sweet as she felt Domon kept secret behind her .She was jealous when Demon always staying with Mrs.Serson.In fact, things not like that. Well, Demon is a gay who is not good at expression, along with other reasons causes them nearly to break out. Off course they were getting well consequence .Do want to know more reason, just read the book.
Well, I like the book, especially Demon, I see he made a lot of efforts to change himself and try to share the ideas and thinking with others. Furthermore, he is really a good gay who I found extinct in this real world. He takes care about his sibling and finish homework in the rest time. All in all, the book is worth to read

Book Description
In She Loves Me, She Loves Me Not, Jean D. Erhardt introduces us to Kim Claypoole, a reluctant yet charming-when-pressed sleuth. The first in a series, we become acquainted with Kim's irreverent and quick-witted ways.
In order to keep her wacky mother's country music radio station from going down the tubes, Kim is compelled to take a leave of absence from the Smoky Mountains, her double-wide, and restaurant partner Mad Ted Weber. Making matters worse as Kim heads to her hometown in a 911 rush to save the day, she puts a sizzling love affair on the back burner.
Kim's soft spot for damsels in distress is activated when she bumps into an old friend who needs Kim's help to clear her hapless brother of a murder charge. In true mystery fashion, she gets more than she bargained for when she gets dragged into several messy murders and murky intrigue. Topless dancers...mall town cops...stream of backwater characters...meeting with the Grim Reaper. Where does it all end? That's for Kim to figure out.

Reading Entertainment at its finest.......2006-07-29
The antics of Kim Claypool are enticing as she flitters back and forth from Amy's house to Evelyn's house - to Sparkies and the local bowling alley. There is never a dull moment in her life. This book is easy reading, and makes you want to read it until you figure out who is the culprit in the small hick-town of Fogerty. The only bad thing about the Kim Claypool series is that currently there is only one book - get off your butt Jean D. Erhardt and get the 2nd book written!
Clearly a writer to watch!.......2001-05-30
This one is right up there with Evanovich. I laughed and nodded the whole way through---especially appealing to southerners. Gave it as Christmas gifts knowing full well that my friends would love it too. I can't wait for the next installment! I want Ms. Erhardt to hurry up and publish number two and then three and on and on.

GUTSY FEMALE SLEUTH.......2000-12-07
SHE LOVES ME, SHE LOVES ME NOT is the first in a series of mysteries featuring Kim Claypoole. It's slow at getting started, but stick with it. You will be glad that you did.
Kim leaves her home in Gatlinburg, Tennessee, to go back to her hometown of Fogerty in rural southern Ohio to help her mother, Evelyn, make some major decisions about selling off the radio station that her father had left Evelyn. Evelyn was used to consuming large numbers of Manhattans through her day and this made her unable to make an unbiased decision. While Kim was helping her mother, Kim's cousin A.C. is murdered. His body is found behind the radio station in a plastic bag inside the dumpster with a certain body part missing. Kim finds out that another murder had taken place two-weeks before her arrival in Fogerty and was very similar. The other victim was a redneck crummy tavern owner by the name of Jimmy Jacob's, and his throat was slashed, his body was found in the parking lot of the tavern.
Amy Delozier an old friend of Kim's calls and asks for her help in clearing her brother who has been accused of killing the two men. Amy swears that her brother Rick Rod was at home at the time of the murders even though the bloody knife was found under Rick's bed. Can Kim help Amy clear her brother or not?
Ms. Erhardt has a real winner on her hands with SHE LOVES ME, SHE LOVES ME NOT. Most of the characters are unpretentious back woods type that makes you laugh out loud sometimes. Kim is a real gutsy type of woman, who drinks beer, smokes cigars and can out swear any sailor. Some murder details are grisly, and this book is of a mature nature. SHE LOVES ME, SHE LOVES ME NOT has mystery, amusement, small-town cops and their lack of know-how and topless dancers thrown into the mix, an excellently written first book with conspiracy that's all rolled up into a nice tight package with no loose ends remaining.
I can hardly wait for the next Kim Claypoole mystery.
