Original thinking on M&A.......2003-02-12

This is the first original thinking on M&A that I've seen recently. Most of the M&A books go on and on about why mergers work or don't work. Winning the Merger Endgame talks about M&A in terms of its effect on industries and how they consolidate and change over time. The endgames model is intriguingly displayed as an S curve. I would only quibble slightly over the horizontal time axis, which makes the time span for each stage seem more specific than it probably is. But the research is solid and long-term.

In a glut of milquetoast business books, "Winning the Merger Endgame" stands out as a gem. The combination of solid research, analysis and writing style results in a credible, useful book that anyone interested in business should read. The heart of the book is a model that describes and predicts how industries consolidate. It's a compelling discovery that will undoubtedly change--and chart--business strategies for years. Bottom line: read it and use it.

I read this book with great interest. Working in retail for more than 10 years now, this book matched my experience and helps me to forecast what might happen in my industry over the next couple of years. Although I - as well as many other readers - have an idea of what could happen or what is probably, this book with the underlying research of thousands of companies over more than 10 years and the expertise of a consulting powerhouse brings the findings to the point and quantifies them. The only small disadvantage is the title: as the book is not only focusing on mergers, but on consolidation trends as a whole (therefore also valid in times where consolidation trends are fought via price wars and organic growth).

I would already speculate that this book will become a real classic and I recommend it to any strategist, CEO or CFO interested in the mechanics of consolidation trends and finding long term survival strategies.

I had the great priviledge, some years ago, of sitting next to Dr. Rubatzky and Dr. C.M. Rick on a flight from Sacramento to North Carolina to attend an ASHS meeting. I was very fortunate to have both as guest lecturers in my undergraduate classes and to have Dr. Rubatzky sign and dedicate my copy of this book; the culmination of two very distinguished careers. It covers the physiology, production and handling of scores of vegetables. It is the first book I reach for when I want to acquaint myself with a new crop.

The most comprehensive text available on the subject.......1999-09-15

Amazing is the only way to describe the wide range of vegetables covered in this book. It is an excellent reference and well worth the price. I have not seen any other book that covers the botany, physiology and production of so many vegetables so well. Dr. Rubatzky has just recently retired from UC Davis to spend more time with his family. We will all miss his presence on campus; hopefully, he will continue to find the time to write.

Very Real.......1997-04-23

Stone Desert was very realistic. It was hard to follow at first because every (hike) or adventure had a lot of little interesting facts. I would get lost, like the Craig did while he was exploring and hiking in the canyons of the Stone Desert. I could almost feel the cold rocks and how it would feel to find water when there was so little to find. I liked that he found pottery, paintings and left them undisturbed for other people to enjoy. He had a pride that came through to me in the book that I hope other people can enjoy and be proud of. This pride will keep special items and treasures around for other people to see and enjoy. having been intrigued by the one plane vs. two plane swing revelations revealed in the Jim Hardy books. believing the ops make ultimate sense, having delved into hogan's mystique as a one planer. the secret of hogans swing, Bertrand also a recommended read. leading me to check out George Knudsen and his simplified balanced golf swing, not to be confused with natural golf even though that's the name of the book. easy as walking and staying in balance just like the golfers on TV. this is the simplest description of how to golf I've ever found!the convoluted swings are history the 8 handicap is going down.

I just received this book two days ago from Amazon. I casually opened it and began reading. I could not put it down other than to run downstairst to try the different aspects as George and Lorne describe them.
It is extremely cold here so I drove over 30 miles to the dome to try the concept as I understand it. It seemed so easy. I cannot wait to get on the course.

Definately the best golf instruction book I've read. I saw an old Shell's Wonderful Work of Golf in which George Knudson broke the course record (67). I decided to buy his book, and I wasn't disappointed.

Good Golf book........2006-07-28

I am glad I learned of this book...it allowed to eliminate the multitude of swing thoughts etc. which were leading to 'paralysis by analysis'. If this sounds like you, the book may be helpful. The swing proposed by Knudson, is rather simple, as explained by other reviewers; basically, hands remain passive while weight transfer and balance drive everything. The swing itself is now a lot more enjoyable for me. There is some repetition in the book, and reading about Knudson's time on tour is rather boring. The 150 page book could be compressed in less than half that; regardless, worth going through the whole thing to change your swing.

I read a lot of the reviews here before buying the book, and it was good to see what people thought of it from different angles. Personally I think it's a great book! As soon as I started reading it I knew it was right for me. George Knudson tells of his youth and his early problems, and it was exactly what I am experiencing and exactly what I need to fix. I think it depends on the person... if you've got a swing that isn't relaxed, that feels like you're putting far too much into it, get this book! I had a decent driving distance already, but I was putting far too much into it and it was inconsistent. The stuff in this book helps. I also read that people complain that he repeats things, but I find this as an advantage. I have read other books that say things once, and unless I write them down I forget them about a day later. I think the repetition (as slight as it is) really drills in the information.

If you will spend 15-20 minutes a day doing the drills, eastern and western, you will really improve. The 123 drill was particularly helpful in reducing my last round by 8 strokes. His drills work they really do!

I got the opportunity to work for Ted Kiegiel at Carolina Country Club while I was in school at NC State University. I got to see him play golf and give lessons. You can really see his results in the game of the junior golfers. I have never seen so many junior golfers shooting so close to par. Everything he teaches is easily understood and easily reproduced in your golf game. Although, I never had the opportunity to get a lesson from Ted himself, I did have the opportunity to get one from one of the assistants. His teaching was similar to Ted's because all of the assistants listen to what Ted says and puts it into their own lessons. Ted Kiegiel has discovered a way to help the average golfer master the game and improve his score tremendously. If you read the book and do what it says, you will be playing balanced golf in no time.

This is probably the most interesting and helpful golf book I've ever read, and I assure you, I've read many! Kiegiel really gets it, and the idea of what we can learn from Eastern thinking is both fascinating and ultimately rewarding. I couldn't praise this book more. This book is a great comprehensive guide to the world of Female Domination. It really would be beneficial to a person at any level of experience. However, if you are really starting at square one, I would recommend a nuts and bolts guide to accompany this book. I would also recommend reading "The Art of Sensual Female Domination" also by Claudia Varrin.

Not an interesting read.......2006-07-09

Author assumes she knows all about the reader's attitudes. Only one point of view is given in the book - assumes 100% Dom 100% of the time. Bad language is used in the book - the points could have been put across without using bad language. However, the best part of the book was the chapter on tools used in the trade.

If this was my first book on Dom, it would have been my last since this book would have removed any / all interest. I will not keep this book in my library.

Very informative and delightful to read.......2006-06-09

A few years ago, I was caught off guard when my husband shared his fantasy of BDSM with me.

I was flattered that he wanted to try new things with me, but I wasn't sure I'd be able to transform myself into a "Dominate Mistress".

After a few feeble attempts, I threw my hands up and demanded that we try something else. Sure, I absolutely LOVED dressing up in Dom clothing and looking the part, but when it came down to it, I had NO CLUE what to do with the poor guy once it was time to deliver.

Fast forward a few years later: The interest has been stirring again in both of us. And this time I've decided to research BDSM a lot more extensively than I did before. Which is how I came across this book.

I've learned so much from the lovely Claudia Varrin. In addition to being very instructional, and chock full of techniques to try out, this book is really a delightful read within itself. I love the honesty and humour she injects throughout. Reading this has given me so much reassurance and confidence and now I feel ready to don the latex and give my darling husband a taste of having a Bitch bring him to his knees in loving humiliation.

Whether you are a frustrated wife with a man who can't stay away from her panties and stockings, or a much experienced Domme, the ideas and suggestions (not to mention explainations) of play and dress are absolutely fantastic.

Ms Varrin presents SM activities in such a way that her enjoyment and pleasure simply ooze from the pages. I recommend this book to young and old, new and experienced hoping that like I did, they learn something.

Depressing, but good.......2003-06-19

I've owned this book for over 6 years before I read it. I'm 20 now, and found the book in my old bedroom. I decided to read it cause I had nothing else, and finished it in the same night. It was amazingly depressing and tragic. I hated most the characters through-out the book. For being uncaring, decefitful, or too caring and stupid. But it was an engaging book. Even for my age. I almost think it might be too violent and depressing for young adults though. But, if you can handle that sort of thing, I'd recommend it. It's a fast and easy read too.

When I bought this book I didn't expect it to be as good as it was. It was a quick and easy read but it was very enjoyable. The whole way through the book you are waitng to find out what the three kids are going to do next. I found the end a bit strange and you think "Why did that happen?" and in some parts you end up hating the characters, but it was extremely good on the whole.
