Customer Reviews:
This was a fairly good textbook........2007-01-09
The basics are all there, but the book gets heavily into the equations of economics, which can leave you feeling a bit overwhelmed. This is a good starter book for those interested in pursuing a career in economics.
Wonderful Textbook.......2007-01-03
The author really breaks down the basic concepts and principals of economics so that it is easy to follow. In addition to being able to effectively explain and convey concepts the author is very humorous and witty and the book does not read like so many boring textbooks. Highly recommended for anyone who wants to learn the basics of economics.
MisleadingTitle .......2005-08-29
I bought this book as a refresher. The author goes through the material very quickly. His writing isn't very clear and I'm frustrated by the format of the book -- too much text, not enough examples or summaries. I'm sticking to my old college textbook.
Good Study Guide of CLEP Test.......2004-03-17
I bought this book to study of the CLEP exam. I have never had an economics class nor did I read any other study guides and I passed with a 74 out of 80 (you only need 50 points to pass). So I would say this taught me the fundamentals of economics. It was very dry at first, but then it got better as I started understanding the material better. The last chapter review questions were funny.
Some people overated it a bit, but it really is a good book. Not an extremely easy book, but very understandable.
Suckered into buying another bad book.......2003-10-20
Well the title of this book suckered me into purchasing it. This book is a joke and the author should be ashamed of himself. There is nothing easy about this, so the title is very misleading and is an obvious ploy to get you to buy the book. It has the same old problems of your dull, dense, jargon filled college text book. There just isn't enough explanations and the few that are in the book assume to much on the readers behalf and you still end up feeling stumped and disappointed that you didn't learn the skills. I wish I could recommend a different book for you guys out there struggling with ecnm 151 but I just haven't found a good book or an easier way to learn it....or should I say a way to learn it at all. If you want my advice, find the easiest teacher around that gives essay questions on tests or this class will hold you up from getting your degree. Also, study in groups if you can even though this is a luxury given the time constraints of college and insanely fast pace of ecnm classes. One final piece of advice is buy your college text book and start going through it a semester before you take the class because if you get a professor with and attitude and a liking to multiple choice questions your going to have a hard time. There is just too much subject matter here to master in a semester. Your professor mastered it because he/she teaches it, so don't feel bad if you get left behind on this subject. This is a typical college text book and class. They expect you to learn something on your own that you don't know in the first place and believe me you'll get no help from the instructors or this text book. The book seriously lacks explanations through out the text and on some of the more difficult and challenging problems. Oh and author if you read this...get an editor...sheesh. This book is just not a quality product.
Book Description
This title presents numerous case studies on how to prove the dollar-for-dollar ROI and worth of training and development programs.
Customer Reviews:
Practical case studies.......2000-06-19
This book presents a series of practical case studies on how businesses have proven that work force training pays for itself. The power of these methods are that they work, someone has used each of them successfully. The case studies represent a cross section of american businesses so it should be straight forward to find a method that works for your company. This is a good book for the manager that has to justify the training program in their department.

Book Description
Recorded history is a finely-woven magic fabric of intricate lies about events predating the sixteenth century. There is not a single piece of evidence that can be reliably and independently traced back earlier than the eleventh century. This book details events that are substantiated by hard facts and logic, and validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources.

Calculations are only as good as your numbers.......2007-08-03
Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.
Pants on fire?.......2007-07-19
Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.
Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09
There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.
For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.
Very Interesting.......2007-03-07
It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.
History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10
Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.
I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.
Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.
Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.
I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.
This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.

Book Description
The author's primary aim is to thoroughly explain the biochemical concepts governing cytochemical procedures for transmission electron microscopy. Such information provides undergraduate and graduate students, technicians, and researchers with a more profound understanding of electron micrographs, as well as the knowledge to refine existing techniques and develop new methodologies.
Book Description
The series
Practical Methods in Electron Microscopy, edited by
Audrey M. Glauert has an international reputation as
a unique source of practical information for all electron microscopists.
Each book of the series starts from first principles, assuming no
specialist knowledge, and is complete in itself. The series will
eventually cover the whole range of techniques for electron microscopy.
In this latest volume in the popular series, Peter Lewis and David Knight describe in practical detail the whole range of staining techniques for electron microscopy, including contrast staining for ultrastructural studies, specific cytological staining methods, and enzyme cytochemical techniques.
The chemical basis of cytochemical methods is discussed and analysed in a straightforward manner with great clarity. In consequence this book will help the beginner to choose between the sometimes bewildering variety of published technical procedures.
Electron microscopists will find this volume to be an invaluable and compact source-book for all those cytochemical techniques that have proved to be both reliable and convenient to use. As with previous titles in this popular series, the unique type of practical guidance provided will be of value for many years to come.

Matching clear graphics with informative text, Christopher Scarre's atlas gives a fine overview of Roman history from the emergence of the first city-state in the eighth century B.C. to the rise of Christian theocracy a millennium later. The Penguin Historical Atlas of Ancient Rome is especially helpful in showing the growth of the Roman empire through successive centuries of military campaigning from Scotland to Arabia and in delineating the networks of trade, transit, and communication that bound the far-flung outposts to the imperial capital. Scarre notes that many of those networks still survive in one form or another.
Customer Reviews:
Starting point........2007-03-11
This short book is an excellent introduction to Roman history. It is divided into easy to digest chapters which deal with a single theme.
Good but should have been bigger........2006-07-31
The atlas is not that large. I bought four similar atlases all from Penguin and they are all thin books (
< 150 pages) and small in size (10" x 7").
Atlases are supposed to be hugh.
However this (and the other 3 books) do contain loads of information.
The book skims over the Republican era. The first map at page 22 and by page 32 the Republic is over.
The book has only a few maps of the expansion of Rome within Italy (hardly a mention of the Samnites, or Sabines; and one small blip on the map for Sparticus)
It has a few maps of Asia Minor at this time. With Carthage and the Punic wars taking up most of these few pre-Empire maps.
Maybe 10 maps to cover 600 years.
We then have many maps to cover the next three hundred years.
Then the book ends abruptly. Shows Constantine's Empire and then quickly shows the Germanic kingdoms and the new Byzantine Empire. And it is over. No maps of Parthia or the neo Persian empires. No maps of the distribution of Germanic tribes outside of Roman areas.
I would have liked to have a bigger book with larger maps. Too many maps cover two pages, so the book binding obscures some information and making a scan of a map is very hard.
On the plus it has many other types of information (unfortunately sometimes repeated by the author in the start of a chapter and later in some specific article).
The types of info include the economy, currency (25 silver Denarius = 1 gold Aureus), the legions (names and numbers at different times), how mines work, the olive oil industry, and of course articles on emperors, politics and religion. A good dozen examples of city maps and a legion camp are shown.
On the whole a good reference and a good read on the history of Rome. But of course a real book with 1000+ pages is required to cover all aspects of the Roman empire. So this is a great companion atlas to that other book. I also got Penguin's Ancient & Medieval Histories (2xMcEvedy) and Ancient Civilizations (Haywood). Together all four give you the info to cover Rome very well.
Not really an Atlas.......2006-02-16
I would like to second the comments of Jacques P. Talbot. I bought this book expecting an atlas, that is a book of maps. There are some maps in this book, but they are small and cluttered and I don't really find them useful. The book is mostly pictures and text. It reminds me of that Time-Life series, that is aimed at young people, although this book is not as good as any in that series. The publishers must have changed their mind about what they wanted to do with this book. They should not have put the word "Atlas" on this confused mess. It might be OK as an introduction for people about 14-16 years old, but if you want an atlas with useful maps in it, don't buy this.
Excellent for the lay man.......2005-10-19
I think I found answers to all I've ever wanted to know about the Roman Empire. This book is certainly readable by anyone. If you don't like reading long texts, this book is perfect. If you do like longer texts, this book is also nice. The balance between pictures and texts is optimal in my opinion.
Very helpful in studying history........2005-10-03
Good tool to assist in studying the history of Ancient Rome.

Customer Reviews:
Great photos!.......2006-08-21
Am enjoyable read for the weather buff. Lots of great photos of midwestern weather phenomena. The book is basically a "biography" of significant historic weather events in the Quad Cities (Iowa) and an autobiography of the author, TV Weatherman Terry Swailes. The book starts out with a look at tornadoes and thunderstorm-related stuff. Great reading! However, it bogs down toward the end as the author presents some of the less exciting weather features, such as floods and snowstorms. Nevertheless, it was interesting reading and I recommend it. The pictures were great and the layout was very pleasing to the eye.
Product Description
A rare and deadly twister rips through parts of Oregon and Washington. Haboobs strip paint off cars in Arizona. A dramatic two-hour temperature gyration from 4??F to 54??F and then back to 4??F breaks plate-glass windows in Spearfish, South Dakota. Most of the wildness of the western frontier may have gone the way of the buffalo, but weather, as meteorologist Tye Parzybok illustrates in Weather Extremes of the West, is still a wild beast. From the windswept High Plains to the mossy Pacific Coast, weather runs rampant flooding, burning, and blowing its way across the western landscape. Parzybok highlights the West s most notorious historical weather events in easily understood prose, with photographs, figures, and satellite images to explain the workings of the West s most unique, and regularly occurring, weather phenomena. With a multitude of statistics and scientific information, he explains what is causing the Salt Lake basin s lake stink, how wide-open spaces influence Texas s fearsome windstorms called Blue Northers, and why Albuquerque s box effect draws balloonists from around the world. Both meteorologists and weather junkies will find Weather Extremes illuminating and entertaining.

From twisters to Haboobs and quick, sudden changes in temperature which can break windows, wild weather is still with us, though tamer than in centuries past. Meteorologist Tye Parzybok covers weather extremes and their results in the West, presenting rainfall and temperature averages, case histories of sudden and extreme weather results, and insights into the science of forecasting and prediction processes. From disastrous Santa Ana wind effects to maps and microclimate oddities, WEATHER EXTREMES OF THE WEST is an exciting survey of meteorology and weather oddities.
Couldn't Put It Down!.......2005-02-09
This is a fascinating book! Everyone's interested in the weather and this book is packed full of weather in a big way. From the amazing stories to the great photos you can open to any page and be there an hour before you know what happened. This is NOT a book you read at night to put you to sleep!
Weather Extremes of the West.......2005-02-03
Great photos and very informative text. Well written with weather enthusiasts in mind, but without being too overwhelming or redundant. If you are in to weather extremes, you'll find yourself captivated and reading every page like a good mystery novel - you can't put it down! An exciting read.
Now that is extreme weather!.......2005-02-03
I live in the northwest and didn't know a fraction of all this weather. Very informative. I loved the pictures. It made me feel like this author really loves what he does. Excellent book. Buddy Kirihara
Much more than just weather folklore! .......2005-01-18
The stories of the extreme weather themselves are very interesting, but what stands out to me are the maps, graphs, photographs and other imagery used throughout the book. The quality of these visual elements is outstanding and they do an amazing job of telling the story of weather and climate. I highly recommend this book for anyone interested in weather or climate, no matter where they live.
